Won't download new issues? 1/5
The app will not download the new issue when it comes out. Sometimes it shows up weeks later. What's the problem?
I have asked TS twice and receive only canned answers that do not work.

The updated app instructions indicate that there should be a star that you select to download an entire issue to read offline. The stars only appear for individual articles inside of an issue. I shouldn't have to download each article individually.

I liked having my RW mags on my device, flipping pages like a magazine, marked my favorite articles, and could read them when not connected. Then they "improved it". It doesn't work off line, although you can download individual articles. I had just renewed prior to the change. I turned off renewal so I don't pay anymore for this worthless way to present their magazine. All my old downloaded issues are gone, and there is no enjoyment using this app.
If you want to read RW, go buy a paper copy!

Horrible new format, hard to navigate 1/5
This new look is boggy and slow to respond to finger swipes. There is a noticeable lag when going to a new page or just scrolling through one page.
As far as readability there isn't much positive to say. I like the clean look, but there isn't much to anchor my eyes as I move around each page. The narrower columns of the previous look were easier to read (and yes, I know that is because they are just like the print magazine). Runner's World could incorporate a similar design to what Outside magazine uses - it retains the look and feel of a print magazine, but allows you to scroll through articles without sacrificing readability. It looks familiar, but manages to keep a lot of information on the page without looking cluttered (no more continued on page ## anymore!). Everything looks so spaced out now with the new design, and with the small type it is harder to read. I'll check out the print edition - but if this redesign extends to that as well, I'm cancelling my subscription. Sorry, Runner's World.
Paid for a subscription on iTunes but the app won't give me access. Called the phone number in the app but they have no clue as to how to fix it. Wasted $20.
Reads like a poorly made website, not a magazine. Just cancelled my subscription.

Just renewed my runners world subscription for $19.95 and haven't been able to read an article of the last issue - March 2017, its blocked, the price tag is still there. Already tried 'restore purchases', restarting de app, and even deleting and downloading the app again. Sent feedback asking for help and no answer yet. Disappointing.
It used to work fine, why mess with it? Why do I have to set up a new account to read offline? Why is PDF mode so bad now? Why is text mode so useless? Why did I pay for a year of this from iTunes? Enjoy my $20, it's the last of my money you'll see.

Before the update, I rated Runner's World 5 stars, because the App worked like a charm. After the update, I will have to cancel my subscription because everything that used to work is broken now:
- The app doesn't remember where I stopped reading, so I am always starting at the beginning of the issue.
- All my favorite articles I saved over the last couple of years (!) are gone! Can you imagine my frustration?
- The intro says that you can favorite articles. I don't even see this option (I have an iPad Air 2), so no, it's not my device!
- The app freezed up on me 3 times in the last 10 minutes. Every time I reopen the app, you guessed it right, I have to start reading on page 1 again.
Why oh why did you have to make a new app? I have a guess here: The publisher got a cutthroat quote from another supplier to make the app for half the yearly cost. The publisher thought, oh good, we can save money! And they ditched an app that was working perfectly fine and did what it was supposed to do for an utter mess. Thank you Rodale for caring for your readers. I can't believe this is happening with such a reputable publication as Runner's World.
Update: Oh, you have to be logged in with Facebook to save favorite articles! How reader friendly!
Please restore the old app ASAP!
I wrote my first review in early December and nothing has changed, I won't be renewing my subscription.
This format change for the Rodale publications was a horrible idea. The previous version was awesome and I really looked forward to it. It also had video and audio content and was interactive. This low-res PDF thing is a joke. It reminds me of my high school yearbook. Why would I pay for this? The only thing that looks not-wonky in the magazine are the ads, because at least those look like a scan. I feel like I've waited long enough for a fix on this awful format, so I'm cancelling. It is unpleasant to use this app. I don't know what Rodale was thinking.

I've cancelled my iOS subscription a a result of this horrible update. Looking for an alternative method that is user friendly. What was a decent app has turned into a horrible ux mess! Do yourself a favor and avoid this app if you can.

I spent a lot of time emailing this app management after purchasing a subscription. I could not access the current issue---the app kept requesting that I pay the $4.95 single issue price, after I had purchased a subscription. I followed all instructions multiple times, deleting and reinstalling the app, restarting my iPad, etc. I finally registered a complaint with ITunes and got a refund.

The app used to be quite user friendly and enjoyable to use. Now it is simply horrible. I feel like they turned back the clocks to 1999. It is slow to load and text driven.
I can't fathom why they would have made this change. It's so bad, I've stopped even opening the app for new issues. Needless to say, I've cancelled my subscription. Maybe I will come back if they fix things, but definitely not before.

No preview on PDF version, unlike Nook and how it was previously on iOS. Offline reading is broken, you can't tell when the entire magazine is downloaded or even IF its downloaded, and the PDF version always starts from page one even if the last page you were reading was 60 pages in. And when you turn a page, it takes an age to render.
The article view is not a replacement for the prior experience. It might work on the iPhone but the iPad version is much much worse.
Somehow an app that has been great since 2011 has been completely borked. Nice one.

This app used to work well with the IPAD. They dumbed it down and now it's just a low quality PDF or an option to read text with a few pictures. Apparently they no longer value appreciation of the graphical interface an iPad can provide.

This app has completely ruined the ability to enjoy this quality magazine. It's difficult to navigate. You download for offline reading only to find the issue isn't there. After several years as an online subscriber I'm contacting them today to change back to print. Yes, it's that bad.

I loved the Runners World app before the update. I would even brag about it and show it to my friends. I bought the subscription because of the app and the app was very close to an actual magazine but with additional features. This latest update is horrible. It's not even usable and the developers are going the wrong direction. They need to bring back the old one.

I have an original iPad, and up until the December edition, I was able to access my magazine. I can view it on my iPhone 6, but it's in pdf which, as many people have noted below, is unfriendly. I've reached out to them numerous times via social media, and have received no response. I'll not be renewing when my current subscription is up in March.
New version is pretty bad 2/5
Old version was much better on iPad. Now, in order to get the magazine style layout, you have to hunt for the PDF view, which has horribly pixelated images. Plus, it's lost the nice way of navigating through that it used to have. Hopefully they'll bring back some of the older features and fix the issues!

The old format was a far better user experience. Not only is the new format bland, but it's awkward to use. I miss being able to swipe through the actual spreads from the magazine.

What everyone else has said here. This is the worst magazine app ever (seems that rodale's other magazines' apps have also suffered the same fate). No functionality, clunky and unwieldy to use. It's like some sort of beta version of a magazine app in the early days of apps. Who thought this was good?! Absolutely unreadable. Will cancel digital subscription if this is not fixed.

What I loved about the old version is that I could still get the experience of reading the actual magazine by swiping through page by page. The new version continues to be awkward and lacking in any kind of flow. The little how-to that was inserted when you open the app does not help! Please, bring back the old format!

The previous app was wonderful. The staff at Runners World had done nice upgrades over the years that made the digital version a pleasure to read. This new update has completely ruined the digital experience. Until they fix this experience, I will be moving back to print format. So much for going green.

Cancelled my digital subscription because of this horrendous update. Not sure how this was released but somebody needs fired. Unfortunately they've probably already been promoted. Terrible terrible terrible.

I subscribe to several magazines that are supported by MAZ, including Runner's World, Bicycling & Men's Fitness.
I have enjoyed them all over the years and they are all now non-functional. I very much enjoyed having the issues download for air travel, no despite following directions (when the app does work) they are not available.
Please roll this app back to the previous version. This is not only not an improvement, it is about to cause me to discontinue my subscriptions.

You took a perfectly serviceable app and set it back by about 10 years!!! Forget that I can't remove old issues any more, how about just letting me see the magazine in its print format? When your shoe guide says "see the chart to the right" and I CAN'T SEE THE CHART TO THE RIGHT or even figure out to which graphic it's referring, that is not helpful!! Plus, why are the paragraphs numbered?? It's like your showing us the magazine in draft format before it goes to print.
While you're fixing this one, please fix Women's Health, too, or you'll be losing a subscriber of both magazines.
Can't even open app 1/5
I'm a previous subscriber and I was hoping to catch back up with one of my favorite magazines, but I can't even get the app to open! Every time I try to download an issue, the app crashes and refuses to reopen.
I sent an email to customer support and was told to delete the app, download again and check for updates. Which was the first thing I did before contacting customer support. Since I responded with that information, however, I've received no response.
I'm extremely disappointed and I would love a refund for my subscription. Do not bother downloading this app. Subscribe through the Nook app so you have a chance of actually being able to open and read the magazine.

Please return to prior version. I cannot add much more than other reviewers, but as someone who travels frequently, I need an app that reliably allows me to read off-line. Saving for later - which is he primary reason I pay for my issues otherwise I would just get my content from Flipboard - should mean that the issue downloads properly for viewing off-line as if I had a hard copy in my computer bag. Good chance I will cancel if no change soon.

The new app is terribly clunky, especially when one lives in a region with slow internet connection.I enjoyed the simplicity of the old version. Now, it takes too long to load, it loses my place when I close out, I HATE the text only version (the whole point of the digital version is to feel like you are reading the actual magazine, but reducing waste). Before, once downloaded, the magazine was there for easy perusal or revision. Now, it has to download every time I go back to an old issue. Please restore the old app!

The new version is terrible. I have been a happy Runner's World subscriber for years, and I had no problems with the previous app. The new app takes forever to load, is clunky and disjointed, and is just miserable to navigate. I am going to cancel my digital subscription and am tempted to cancel the subscription all together. This is not a way to treat your readers.
