I had been a loyal Hotwire user since 2002, but the service has become deceptive in the last few months. Buyer beware - check all of the pull down menus and fine print before selecting a hot buy!! I’ve also put in a complaint with the Better Business Bureau - but it’s essentially buried by the other 1,000+ similar complaints!! 😒

I’ve been using Hotwire for several years, but lately I’ve noticed every time I got a hot deal or a secret deal, I ended up getting a hotel that was cheaper on booking.com and sometimes cheaper on its own Hotwire site/app.
I wrote to Hotwire and they are usually good with getting back to you and giving you credit for any inconvenience or a price match but this time I was never answered.
Now I just use booking.com cause these “secret deal -hot deals” are BS.
Hotwire should return to their old business model and give good hotels for the true percentage off they advertise then giving whatever is profitable for them.
BEWARE 40% off is really just the normal price of the hotel now days! And sometimes even more which blows my mind!

Used to be great, but it has changed. I reserved a free breakfast hotel and while my confirmation said there was free breakfast, I was charged for it €80. Wrote twice and they are all kind of sorry but won’t help.
Lost my trust.
So I’ve never had problems with other sites booking a hotel and didn’t expect to have such a headache of a time with these scum. I have had two bad incidents now within two days. First I pick the hotel and the bed and go to book and pay I click pay and it says oops the deal is gone select another room and book now. All the while my card was charged the full amount for the room that was never booked. Now when I contacted them they said they didn’t charge my car that it is a hold placed but not by them so says the rep I’m talking to they can only release the funds and then I have to wait 5-7 days for my money to be put back into my account. So I figured alright I’ll wait. Then couple days later going to book another room what do you know same thing happens again charged my card full price and didn’t book the room at all. Now I’m out a couple hundred dollars until this “release” goes through and I get my money credited back to my account. DO NOT ISE HOTWIRE AT ALL FOR ANY REASON THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER AND NOT TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY ON THEIR END AND BLAME YOUR BANK AND THAT YOU NEED TO CONTACT THEM INSTEAD OF HOTWIRE IM FILING A COMPLAINT WITH BBB AND MY BANK IS OPENING A FRAUD CLAIM AGAINST THEM FOR THEM SAYING THEY NEVER CHARGED MY CARD YET IT STATES CLEARLY IN MY STATEMENT HOTWIRE SO OF THEY DIDNT AUTHORIZE THE CHARGE THEN ITS FRAUD AND NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED SO IT WILL BE!!!

Anytime I need a hotel in a pinch HotWire is always there for me. I put 90% recommended and filter low to high. I’ve not been dissatisfied yet!!!

I recently booked a hotel through Hotwire while looking for a new apartment, I was there for about 2 months, and It was supposed to be a cheaper way to go, for the first week it was fine, but after that first week the price kept changing, it got higher and cost me more, when I questioned the price change, the clerk informed me that they accidentally checked me out , which resulted clicking me out of my prior in advance 30-60 day reservations I’d booked with Hotwire .
Therefore they started charging me their regular daily rate charges for my room,.
I disputed with them that I’d booked my room with Hotwire and I shouldn’t be getting charged their regular daily rate but should be paying the rate at what I’d booked it for !
I feel really disappointed, and taken advantage of, not to mention the fact that I truly believe they charged me more than what I was supposed to pay,.
I have kept all of the receipts from my time there, in hopes of getting this some how resolved and noted because I know I was over-charged.

No refund policy has to change, if they going to keep the hotel anonymous until you book it. Last booking turned into a nightmare.

You would be better off to not pay Hotwire. Just note the flights you want and boom direct on the airlines page.
Customer support agents are not helpful. Just put you on hold and cannot fix anything.
Tried the last 3 days. Giving up.
Bed choice needs improvement. I’ve had several recent bookings where I had 3 adults and needed two beds specifically, thinking that specifying 3 adults implies that 2 beds are needed, turn out to be only one bed and we were stuck.

I was forced to stay at a hotel where I was previously robbed. I even bought the trip insurance and was not give a refund. They kept my money while I have to stay in a dangerous hotel.
Poor Customer Service and Retention 1/5
Our company is removing Hotwire as an option for future travel needs. Due to human error (or perhaps a manipulation by the app) the incorrect date was selected on a reservation. I did make the mistake of confirming that purchase without rechecking the date. Once the error was determined we contacted Hotwire 24+ hours before reservation and they would not cancel and credit. After reaching a supervisor on phone I brought up the fact confirmation email does specify it is prepaid and can’t be cancelled. She wanted to resend confirmation email so I would have the right polices. She sent the email and well it was the exact same. So now I question if I made a human error in date selection or if app moved date. See the hotel was actually sold out for the dates I believe selected and the Hotwire reservation was a night following when the hotel had availability. In any case, Hotwire was unwilling to offer a credit or refund and chooses to loose out on future business. Poorly run and a shame human error is being taken advantage of. Fool me once but not twice!!!

Have had good luck booking hotels using Hotwire app! Always check out which hotels are offered and have been happy with results! Message that says “can’t process booking try again” is not helpful, better message would be “ choose a different room” or “ rooms sold out”

I had a reservation for Travelodge in Orlando. When I got to the hotel after a long trip, I was informed the system in the hotel wasn’t working and they could not check me in neither cancel my reservation and refund me so I could go to a different hotel. They left me waiting at the lobby for 2 hours until they could finally get me a room at another hotel. you would think problem solved, right? Wrong! The new hotel was not only more expensive than the one I had already booked, but it was also not as nice. I had booked a room with a king bed and they could only offer me a room with two twin beds. It was a downgrade. In addition, they wouldn’t refund me for relocation costs (such as Uber to the new hotel) nor pay for the difference in price. I wasn’t offered any kind of compensation either! Very poor customer service!

I booked a hotel through hot deal which was 46% off of 126$. After booking the hotel room original price in their website was 89 so it was only 24% off. So quality of hotel is not close to those in the price of 126 and has horrible reviews and now cant make a change or cancel since its a hot deal! I called them, and they basically said “you already paid, there is nothing we can do”

Hot wire does good in past. Now it became wothless company. I believe this is due to change in management. If you loose good leaders you loose market. Drive company as you do in past. Now HOTWIRE is big waste company with high price rates, worst service. Priceline, Costco travel applications is far better than HOTWIRE

I’m currently in Las Vegas on vacation. I let Hotwire pick the rental car company to use. They picked ACE. Never ever use ACE. The fact that Hotwire uses this horrible rental agency is a poor reflection on Hotwire.
1) ACE is not even close to the airport.
2) I couldn’t find the shuttle location. Ended up taking a taxi that cost me $33 to the rental agency. The women in front of me said she waited 40 minutes for the shuttle that is supposed to run every 10-15 minutes. I heard another women say they only have two shuttles running.
3). They had four people working the counter. Three of them were helping two people they couldn’t find reservations for. I can’t say for sure but I must have waited an hour in line.
4) the worker told me he could offer me an upgrade. Twice I said if it’s the same price. Finally he said $10 a day for suv. I have never been offered an upgrade that would cost me more, but I agreed.
5) then he wants to sell me insurance. I have geico. Never have I had to purchase extra insurance. He says I added full protection at $25 a day. I said no thank you, if I need insurance basic is fine.
6) then he pressures me to buy gas from him. No thank you I’ll bring it back full.
7) I went to the next window to pick up the car. Give them my paperwork. I see the worker out in the parking lot removing a plate. When he comes back in I ask where my paperwork is. He can’t find it. Turn out they gave my car to someone else. I was supposed to get an suv they wanted to give me an Altima. Finally I get a minivan.
I can’t go over specifics but every person in the line in front of me had issues.
My husband was livid. Our plane landed at 1:00 we didn’t leave car rental agency until 3:30.

I’m the app keeps logging me out each time it updates. Which was ok last year a few times. But I use it quit often so it’s kind of frustrating.

I had a very bad experience with the car rental service provided through Hotwire. I travelled to Orlando and my flight delayed by 60 mins, the pick up vehicle for my car rental did not turn up even though they mentioned 2 hrs for the pick up. I called the customer care of hot wire and they could not help. They wasted 3 hrs of time and one of my worst experiences. Venkata Danthuluri

My wife and I heard great things about Hotwire and decided to use for the first time. We are adopting a cat to take back with us home and needed a hotel for 1 night before we flew out. I booked a room using the “hot deal” and filter any hotels not pet friendly; good thing I called cause turns out the hotel didn’t except cats therefor wasn’t 100% pet friendly.
The Hotwire website/app needs a filter for pet friend with specifications as to dogs or cats. Once that happens I’ll chance my review.

Straight unprofessional! I booked through Hotwire for the first time and my expert has been nothing less than horrible. They haven’t sent me to a hotel that requires a 100.00 CASH deposit that they didn’t make me aware of. Now they won’t change me to another room now will they give me my money back. IF I HAD KNOWN I COULD HAVE PREPARED but because i have been stuck in Atlanta for 3 days because my car broke down I don’t HAVE IT. Smh never using again.

Freezing upservice. When I'm dissatisfied with a hotel or airline Hotwire was always done something in their power to rectify the situation. I've been given Hotwire dollars that were redeemable towards any Hotwire purchases. I think Hotwire is great just used them again for this weekend.

I would give no stars. However that is not an option. The hot rate advertised was $4 cheaper than the regular rate. Ok great deal. After I booked it and checked it with the regular rate, I found that I paid more than if I would’ve booked it at regular price. Customer service is absolutely no help. Spoke to regular agent R.D. and Jen a supervisor. Both were with the run around b.s. And said and I quote “the system changes the prices and they have no control over the booking costing more with the hot rate than a regular rate “ . I am still confused. Do yourself a favor and don’t believe the hot rate b.s. It’s a joke. 42 minutes wasted out of my life dealing with them and still no help what so ever. The low price guarantee is a joke.

Hotwire car rental is such a scam!!! I booked car online on September 30th and I got HOT RATE for it. When I went to rent a car agency ( Ace ) they told me that there is mile limitation for my reservation ( 150 miles a day ) and that I should cancel reservation because if I go further that 450 miles in 3 days I will pay 25 cents per extra mile. These conditions WERE NOT in terms and conditions when I accepted reservation. I called hot wire after agent in ACE told me to call them and cancel. Hot wire did not wanted to cancel my reservation because they told me it was a blind reservation and it is not refundable?! I told them that even if it is blind reservation they SHOULD put all the conditions when you book it, otherwise I got stuck with the car I cannot use. They said they will put those information in the future 😡 I told them I don't care about the future, I want my money back now because it's crazy to scam people like that and do not put all the conditions when you book a car. I ended up being charged for a car I did not use. PEOPLE SAVE YOUR MONEY, do not use HOTWIRE! Their customer service is rude and their supervisors not doing their job.
