Ditch the App 1/5
This is a tough review to write because I love the content. The app feels downright stingy. It’s heavy handed with what you’re “allowed” to do and the user experience leaves much to be desired. Since this app is how you access the content of the digital subscription, I’d say don’t bother with it.
I don’t want an app actually. I’m a new subscriber to print and digital and I just want to download the PDFs from my subscription period, which is how Home Power does it. I like to keep a large PDF archive of resources and it’s unfortunate I can’t save issues or articles from this app.
Sometimes, less technology is better.
Totally dissatisfied 1/5
Finding the issues you have paid for requires endless flipping through a digital Rolodex of back issues being hawked at you. I will never buy another magazine that uses this app.
Love the mag, HATE the app 1/5
Have read MEN for decades and subscribed to many mags on ipad. But this new app interface is hellish. What idiot developer thought of it? I cannot see the bloody issues I bought. I have to "swirl" through a bunch of stupid special issues I do not want and never can get to the ones I own. Considering lodging a formal fraud complaint. Unfortunately, High Country News and other mags use the same horrible app.
How do you use this thing? 1/5
Confusing carousel arrangement and I can't view the magazine I purchased on the pad.
Not good (MAZ not Mother Earth News) 1/5
It uses MAZ and it's the exact same thing you'd see if you bought the paper magazine, ads and all. Using MAZ (a digital publishing service/app) makes the reading experience painful and I doubt I'll resubscribe because of it.
Stop using MAZ and publish something like the "Loop" and I'd keep subscribing and would even pay more.
Just give me a simple menu so I can get to my purchases simply and easily. I can't even get to my purchases for the confusing views and marketing strategy to get you to purchase more. Stop it please!
Major flaws 1/5
Unable to view only issues purchased. Have to scroll through all issues offered and by chance find the ones purchased. And then can't find all the issues! Continually need to unlock purchased content and still loose the from view. The banner ad at the top takes up about one third of the navigation screen. C'mon, really? Why not just offer the magazine as a stand alone publication and get rid of the flawed app altogether? There's an idea.
Really Bad 2/5
Can't read previous issues. Lousy user interface. Constantly trying to sell you something else. I just want to read the magazine I bought - both current and past issues.

The best sustainability content out there!
A Digital Stack? Really 4/5
So, I give another star but without an explanation as to where the grid view is no 5 stars. It took me 2 days of fuming to Accidentally find the grid, I still say the stack is pointless in digital form. For digital the grid is the only thing that makes sense.
Very disappointed, guys.
How tedious can it get to go through a digital stack? Very. I want my grid back. The write up mentions a grid but there is no indication of how I find it.
I thought the last one was just fine. Change graphics OK but the layout needs more explanation, like where is the grid option so I can Quickly find the issue I want.
Am I the only one who got a non functioning darked out ME icon, I can neither open or delete?
Mother Earth news 2/5

Electronic version does not allow print subscribers access
Cool feature 5/5
I love the clippings feature on this app, I am able to share snippets or full articles with friends and family. Very nice.
