You're the worst! 1/5
I trusted you and you're a bunch of liars. I paid the Remove Ads subscription but that's not enough money for you so you decided to use sneaky tactics to make more money.
If your business model is not working and you want to track your users and sell their information then do it but ASK your users first, don't do this ^%$#@ business model. The least you can do is issue refunds to the people who paid but knowing the kind of things you're willing to do I do not expect anything good from you. I'll just delete your app and never use a product from you and avoid anything related to Reveal Mobile.
Selling Personal Data Behind the Scenes 1/5
Since the recent revelations regarding selling of personal data unknown to the user, I too removed it from all devices - wish I had never purchased the premium edition.
AccuWeather doesn't give a F about you or your privacy 1/5
This app is free for a reason. It's free because they share your location and who knows what else with other companies EVEN IF YOU EXPLICITLY TELLS THEM NOT TO.
That's correct. This NASTY app has been silently selling off your personal data that you explicitedly told them they aren't allowed to for who knows how long.
That's absolutely NOT okay with me and any apps that does this committed a criminal act. Not to mention being banned from the App Store.
Apple, what the hell are you doing still allowing this app to be downloaded???
Location Data Being Sold Without Consent 1/5
When this is changed, I'll be happy to reinstall an otherwise fantastic app.
Data being shared deleted 1/5
Deleted due to unauthorized data distribution to 3rd party tracking. Never again!
Selling location data 1/5
They are selling my location data, nope nope nope.
Great app 4/5
My music/podcasts cut out when using this app. Stop it from taking over audio
Zero Stars- Don't Share My Data! 1/5
How dare you share my data without my permission. The fact that I have to randomly read about it from a news paper doesn't help either. I will never as long as I live us this garbage app again. Dude, you're the weather app, why on earth are you stealing personal data?
Paid for Platinum but deleted for tracking me 1/5
I have deleted this app from all my devices and computer browser due to its secretly tracking users. Even with paid upgrade, they could not leave it alone. Plenty of others out there.
Shares Data 1/5
Share your location data, Wi-Fi data, and Bluetooth data without your knowledge or approval.
Deleted the app 1/5
I used to like this app, till I found out that the developer is sending location and Wifi info to a company that monetizes your data. This is unacceptable. Be forewarned if you are thinking of installing. It's a shame as it did have some nice features.
By Jeff Lathus
Obtaining data to 3rd Party after I say no .. By the end of the week I bet most everyone will uninstall this app
Spyware, either intentionally or through negligence 1/5
So, after getting caught sending user location info to a marketing company, even when the user deliberately chose not to allow that, Accuweather released a statement meant to confuse what happened.
There are only two explanations for what they were doing:
1. They were deliberately circumventing the user's privacy choice and sending info that could be used to track the user, or
2. They negligently included software in their app (and were paid to do it) and somehow didn't realize it was tracking their users.
If #2 was true, their statement didn't say that. Their statement didn't actually deny item #1, so that seems like what happened.
In other words, they either were paid by a marketer to spy on you against your will, or they were dumb enough they didn't realize that's why they were being paid.
And, even if you allowed them to track you, they didn't make it clear they'd be selling your location info to a marketing company.
Disgusting. The fact that they released a statement designed to obfuscate their bad behavior makes it even worse.
I'm not keeping this app. I don't think the developer can be trusted.
Best Weather App on the market 5/5
Great App, has everything one would want and fairly easy to use.
Selling locations 1/5
Can't be trusted, deleted immediately.
App tracks your location and sells the data to advertisers, even when you select "do not share." Got caught red handed by security researchers and then claimed ignorance.
They claim the new version will not spy anymore. They have been lying to you entirely up to this point, do you really want to trust them now!?
Oh look! Selling my location! 1/5
What a disgusting business practice. Deceptive and disgusting.
Location data collected without permission 1/5
By Boss Jim
This app gets zero stars. Don't be evil.
Track location 1/5
Tracks your location even when you don't specify to share location, sells data to Reveal Mobile. Deleting.
One strike, and you're out! 1/5
There is literally no excuse for an app to share location data with a third party when the user explicitly says not to. This doesn't even seem like an accident, either. So because of this, after 6 years of using AccuWeather, I am deleting it from all of my devices, and will most likely never trust this company again.
Accurate but takes too long to load 1/5
The app is accurate, but it always takes about two minutes to load, even on a wifi connection, which is ridiculous.
Edit: This app continues to disappoint. Most times, I get no data when I open the app. Storm Tracker 6 was a much better app.
Dishonest company. 1/5
By Reasonable Words
Don not use this app. They lie and send your data even when you opt out. This means that they are also using your data. Avoid this app at all costs...
Bad app, bad company 1/5
By Blue Angel 1
After hearing that they've been sharing location data even we tell them not to, I've deleted this app on my iPhone and iPad. It takes a lot for me to delete an app. Trust is important to me. Bye Accuweather!!
Tracking my info. Shame on you. 1/5
Why? I use your product all the time but installing.
Sends private router and MAC address info!!! 1/5
Sends private router and MAC address info to the company who is then reselling user data for location tracking.
Selling private info 1/5
Don't want to have an app on my phone that's violated my trust
Company with no morals 1/5
Can't believe that this weather app that I installed and forgot about has been selling information about my location and wifi networks I've been connected to. Disgusting company.
They secretly track your location.
I have had this app for a while, but like many other reviewers noted, the word games with the location setting is a definite no-go. Uninstalled, NEVER to grace my screen again. Funny thing that, trust...
Illegal sharing of weather data 1/5
These folks were just caught breaking Apple's terms of service by sharing your location data with a third party, even when you have sharing location data turned off. They are selling your personal location data to a company any that sells it to anyone who wants it.
This is a huge violation of privacy. Even if they say they will fix it, how can you trust them?
Can not set default location any more 3/5
Used to be able to do this. Sets nearest big city instead. Annoying but not critical.
Illegal use of push notifications & location sharing violation 1/5
By Edit Dude
This app is another recipient of my practice of single-star rating any app that violates Apple policy against abusing Push Notifications for promotional purposes not requested by the user.
Furthermore, I have permanently boycotted AccuWeather and deleted the app due to the location privacy violation that was recently discovered. Good riddance.
Messy interface; privacy violated 1/5
The interface is messy, cluttered, unintuitive, and seems to be getting worse with the newer updates.
Location sharing abuse finally did the trick for me, and the app is now uninstalled. Shouldn't have made it to the App Store in the first place. No apologies accepted after being caught!
Selling My Info To 3rd Parties? 1/5
That's not nice. I don't think your App is all that great. Where I go is my business. I herd from a reputable party that your selling my info and even when I have my location turned on only when using the App you are still able to track me when I'm not using your app. Your also selling my whereabouts to a third party. Like I said, I don't think your App is all that great.
It's nice your letting people know now but I never got an email letting me know that you changed your ways. Another nice thing your doing is letting people know that "we are tracking your every move and this can drain your battery no matter what settings you choose". In fact, you can shut us off in your settings but we're still watching!!!...Laughing. Now that third party can sell it on the Dark Web or who ever they choose. Did you start selling us out around June 2017? My credit card info was stolen end of June, and I'm wondering if you unknowingly helped them. You have a couple hundred new users since yesterday (8/22/17) so you won't miss me, and I won't miss you.
Uninstalled - dishonesty and privacy breach 1/5
By Must Exit
Uninstalled this app after knowing about the dishonesty in its description and the breach of privacy by selling location information, including wireless network names and addresses, to a tracking/advertising company.
Hint: Please mark the privacy related reviews as Helpful with a long press on the reviews to help them stay at the top!
Sells your location data even when location sharing is disabled. 1/5
By James Appleseed
Accuweather has been collecting and forwarding user location information to data monetization company Reveal Mobile even when location sharing is disabled.
Sends private data to advertisers 1/5
Sends location to advertisers, even when you click 'do not track my location while app is turned off.'
I'm sad to delete this app though, it was great for the weather :(
Good app but it's spyware 1/5
By David C!
I've used this app for years and I like it a lot, but recent news reveals that they are seeing your location data to spammers even when you disable background location services.
Shame on you. I have deleted this app from my devices. I will be using something else for my weather in the future
By bye ye
Location off means location off. End
Violation of Trust 1/5
AccuWeather, your shady dealings have been exposed! This was my go-to app for weather and radar but once it was outed that turning off location sharing was ignored, this app is now deleted, never to be installed again on my phone!
Ignoring location setting: deleted 1/5
Whether to share my location information is (or should be) my choice, not an apps. Deleted.
Selling my information? Uninstalling. 1/5
I have just read reports and research showing that this app is gathering personal information like location, wifi name, etc and selling it to a company. I am uninstalling this app and switching to WeatherUnderground.
Do not use-they were caught sharing user data in a shady manner 1/5
By Micah H.
This app was caught sharing user data even when the app is not being used in a very shady and almost illegal manner. Use another app like a Weather Underground instead.
Secret spyware 1/5
As has been widely reported, this app secretly violates location service settings and sells information about your location.
Uninstalling for location spying 1/5
ZDnet verified and reported that this app sends your location data to a data monetization firm, even when you've turned location sharing off. I liked the app's UI but have removed it for spying.
Sends my location without my consent 1/5
Find another app until they fix this.
Immediately uninstalled!! 1/5
When I read the app is collecting location data AND selling it despite my iOS setting of 'Don't Allow', immediately deleted.
Shame on you!!!!
Sharing my data without permission 1/5
You should be ashamed of yourselves as developers. That you didn't know what Reveal was doing is not an excuse and only makes me trust you less in having anything of yours installed on any of my devices. Could not delete this app fast enough.
Was Just Advertising, Now Stealing User Location 1/5
AccuWeather has become Weather Channel app. It's more advertising than weather info. Usable information is cluttered with large commercials. Latest update makes navigation more difficult.
Now sends wifi router names and MAC address to Reveal Mobile even if you have location sharing turned off. This is a very dishonest company.
Stealing Data 1/5
Dishonest business practices.
Since TOS can be modified at any time with now user rights, they can decide to use this data however they want in the future.
We are so far behind in protecting users privacy in USA. Similar to the days where a landlord could kick you out just because.
