Appears to be a digital content reader like an e-book reader or iBooks, but without the mechanism in place to allow us to load material into it, it's pretty worthless.

Original review: The app crashes literally every 30 seconds and doesn’t display the covers of my books (it just shows greyed-out squares). It also doesn’t sort the books in the same order across devices when I try to sort by anything other than title or author, and there is no option to manually sort the books into folders to keep it easier to find things with a big library. This app needs some major updates, because it is unusable in its current form.
UPDATE: This app has cost me thousands of dollars in lost books. I’m furious. I have hundreds of PDF ebooks and files that I OWN (NOT RENTED) on this app, but about a month after I upload any file, the app tells me it has “expired” and can no longer be read, and that I’ll need to purchase it again. This has caused major problems with my ability to do work, as there are now hundreds of files I can no longer access and don’t have the the ability to download again. I would never have downloaded anything to this app if I had known I would have these problems. There are literally 15+ gigabytes of books and other files on this app that I am locked out of EVEN THOUGH I OWN THEM. The app also spontaneously deletes books sometimes, refuses to let you delete books other times, and is all-in-all one of the WORST apps ever developed. As a loyal Adobe customer, I am deeply disappointed. I want those thousands of dollars back if they’re not going to fix the app and restore my access to my books.

The app doesn’t work. It’s crippled by its inability to do anything successfully, such as displaying a book. Adobe should stick to photoshop and acrobat.

By far the worst app I’ve ever installed. Serves no purpose other than to infuriate the user. The “creators” of this app should all be fired. Especially the product manager for letting this atrocious piece of software to be released.

I tried it only for a couple of days and so far I can say the transitions are not smooth. I only have one book but every time a open it it pops up a new copy of it in my bookshelf, although it’s the same book. It has crashed 4 or 5 times already. I didn’t want to buy the paper version of the book so I didn’t have to carry with it but if this app is the only alternative they forcing me to go to the paper version. Bad, really bad app!!

I was urged to download this app so that I could download and sign in to read a book I checked out from a digital library. As far as I can see, this is just a how-to booklet. I still can’t download or sign in to anything. And I can’t find anywhere I can sign in. This whole system is screwed up. And it seems like nobody cares to give good instructions.
Too glitchy. Constantly says I’m not connected to the internet. Won’t download books. Often does not respond after menu or dialogue buttons are pressed. Totally unusable app.

Adobe is also connected with my local library and its eBook and audio book download service (OverDrive). My nightmarish entanglement with Digital Editions came from trying to download an ePub PDF supplied with an audiobook checked out at my library. After establishing new IDs and log ins, adding another library app (Libby), I am still no closer to my PDF. Audible has an easy way to do this. Trying to accomplish the same download using Digital Editions is similar to using DOS and Basic from 1990. And still no ePub PDF!
Says book is downloaded but doesn’t show in library. I’m logged in to freading, Adobe Digital Editions, and tulsa county library. Deleted apps reloaded etc. Tulsa library tech support doesn’t know how fix it. Says hers won’t work either. Unfortunately I can’t rate zero stars.
This is a terrible app on all devices. I would not use it except I have to for textbooks. The scrolling is unbearable. Everything about it is frustrating and time consuming. It makes me want to pull my hair out. They need to do better or just delete it all together.
Deleted app and used kindle format 1/5
I gave up and went back to kindle format. Couldn’t transfer the book to my iPHone, failing with “not connected to internet” or something like that. Returned ePub version of the book, borrowed the kindle version, and two seconds later had it in my phone. Deleted the adobe app.
Yet another foolish piece of software in the Adobe arsenal. You’ve made accessing ebooks none the less easier. What exactly is the point of this app? Can you guys just stick to photoshop, illustrator, and acrobat in your exclusive membership cloud.

For some reason every other page is missing. You have to Zoom to see the content and if you swipe left or right sometimes contents will disappear.

Less than a star. Not recommended at all. I can’t see some pages, also the lag, is horrible. Tried to contact customer service, chat or something...nothing. Horrible app, worst service. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!
Will not download from Books-A-Million 1/5
Totally unusable. "Can not contact server" error when attempting to download yet it validates my sign-in. Books-A-Million requires this reader yet I now see all of the horrible reviews. Will try to get refund of my book purchase and let them know why. If I could rate Adobe Digital Editions with Zero Stars, I would. They don't even deserve one star.

Most Bay Area technology vendors design their products to wow the user. They make it easy for the consumer to sign up and get started in mere seconds and then have a pleasurable experience as you use the product.
Not these guys. Not at all.
It looks like the User’s experience is the last thing on Adobe’s mind.
They just don’t care if you like it or not. They still design their products as if it were the 1990s.
Rest assured you will have a frustrating and infuriating experience with this app that will turn you off from using any Adobe product at all.

The app will not allow you to delete a book. Will not remember a book mark. THERE IS NO SUPPORT FROM ADOBE!!!!!!!
All it will do is get you to a user forum and then there is no answer. Adobe says this is a 3rd Party App.... Bull! It has an an Adobe logo and is copyrighted by Adobe Systems.
Would really like to get rid of this app but there are references I need to keep, unfortunately, I am stuck with expired material.
Makes me wonder if I should I fact renew my Acrobat subscription this year.

Would love to review the app, but I can’t even get started. I cannot get to the Adobe ID and password fields to enter the data and hit the Authorize button either vertically or horizontally. Worthless.
Frustrating experience!! 1/5
Been using this app for a while now on my iPad Pro 10.5 and it is frustrating me to no end. It keeps syncing blank books to my device and then constantly crashes. As if that wasn’t frustrating enough, there isn’t a way to mass delete all those blank books and there over 160 of them! I went through and manually deleted them ALL.... then I thought I might uninstall the app and retry... nope... it just re-sync those 160 blank books all over again. I would like to have all the hours of my life back that I invested into this app, but I’m doubtful Adobe can make that happen. Perhaps if they enabled two-page view and fixed the glitch where it keeps crashing and syncing blank books... I might be able to forgive them.

Frequent crashes; Problems with library management, i.e. my The library is populated with inaccessible books that got returned months ago.

I was thrilled with is app, then it started showing only the first page of each chapter. I don't know what changed, but I did notice there was an update two weeks ago....about the time I started having difficulties. I really need to see ALL the pages for this app to be helpful.

The purpose of consumer technology is to make human lives easier and more efficient. This product does precisely the opposite. By inserting itself clumsily into what were previously smooth workflows, it hampers experience at every turn. Poor user interface, many lags and glitches, impossibly restrictive sharing features. This is several steps backwards from Gutenberg, to wit, I would much prefer bound volumes I could keep at my desk--they would be so much easier to use. This entire product is a dark smirch on Adobe's good name. If I see that a book is available through Adobe Digital Editions, next time I will be wise enough to run the other way.

This app is horrible. All the other reviewers are right. I had to download it because it was the only app I needed for a workshop. It would never transfer to my iPad. Paid for a book I couldn’t use because of the app. Horrific.

I’m stunned at this app. I figured I would be able to switch back and forth between phone and computer as long as the same Adobe ID was on both — nope. Not at all. From what I can see, there’s no way to connect the two outside of manually connecting my phone and dumping the files in. It’s very obvious that this program is not intended for smart phones or tablets and is only a way to read certain book formats. Definitely not what I thought it was going to be and I will not be keeping it.

Like so many others, I can not use this app because it refuses to work with my Overdrive account with my local library, I continually get the “Connection Error Detected” message. I’ve tried it on the newest iPad, an iPad Air, and iPhone 6s, with no success. Sadly, Adobe does not seem to care in the least because this obviously affects many users and has been going on for quite awhile.

Why Adobe cannot create a digital reader that’s equal to acrobat or at least has a few useful features that actually work is beyond comprehension. They’ve been in the business far too long to make excuses. This app is as clunky as clunky gets. Better to stick to hard copies of textbooks if possible than waste your time with a Stone Age app that even a caveman would find lacking.

After 1 1/2 hours chatting with Adobe support to resolve an "unable to contact server" error they gave up said to just post a question on their forum page as they "don't support this 3rd party app". In other words it does not work and they can't (won't) fix it. BTW, the app has an Adobe 2017 copyright... so their attempt to blame a 3rd party is pretty lame. Typical of Adobe... My suggestion: Find another book format. Stay away from ePub books...

Very poor documentation, login and authorization system keeps users running in circles - without end. Like others, I've come back to this app for years, hoping that it has been fixed. Nope. How this EVER got adopted by libraries and others to make it easy to download and enjoy their offerings, I'll never understand.

I'm in disbelief at how bad this app can be, and even looking back 5 years, it is STILL as bad today.
"Go to Page" does not work (are you kidding me???)
It takes me 20 minutes on average to load a book from the cloud.
There are tons of weird zoom glitches, that end up making the book ultra small in the top left corner of the iPhone screen.
Ive used this app for a total of about an hour and it already is the worst thing in existence on my phone.
I feel bad for the development team of this program. Someone in management absolutely does not care about the quality of this app.
Unable to download e-books from library 1/5

I tried to use this app to download Overdrive e-books borrowed from our county library. The app fails to connect with the fulfillment server, so e-books can't download. I tried the app on my iPhone 5S, iPad Air 2 and Samsung tablet, with the same frustrating results. I was however able to successfully use the PC version of Adobe Digital Editions, and can transfer downloaded e-books onto my Nook Simple Touch Reader. For smartphone and tablet users who want to borrow Overdrive e-books from a library, I would highly recommend the Libby app. It's excellent!
