drawing board app 1/5
This is so bad I don’t see how they haven’t just scrapped it and gone back to the drawing board.
Abysmal 'technology' 1/5
By Benjamin John Parker
The purpose of consumer technology is to make human lives easier and more efficient. This product does precisely the opposite. By inserting itself clumsily into what were previously smooth workflows, it hampers experience at every turn. Poor user interface, many lags and glitches, impossibly restrictive sharing features. This is several steps backwards from Gutenberg, to wit, I would much prefer bound volumes I could keep at my desk--they would be so much easier to use. This entire product is a dark smirch on Adobe's good name. If I see that a book is available through Adobe Digital Editions, next time I will be wise enough to run the other way.
Horrible. Can’t connect to download books to iPad. 1/5
This app is horrible. All the other reviewers are right. I had to download it because it was the only app I needed for a workshop. It would never transfer to my iPad. Paid for a book I couldn’t use because of the app. Horrific.
Broken integration 1/5
By Awesome Gamer 99
Only reason to use this is integration with DRM protected books. Integration with EBSCO is broken, so it just wastes time.
Practically unaccessible. 1/5
I’m stunned at this app. I figured I would be able to switch back and forth between phone and computer as long as the same Adobe ID was on both — nope. Not at all. From what I can see, there’s no way to connect the two outside of manually connecting my phone and dumping the files in. It’s very obvious that this program is not intended for smart phones or tablets and is only a way to read certain book formats. Definitely not what I thought it was going to be and I will not be keeping it.
Too many bugs 1/5
The app crashes literally every 30 seconds and doesn’t display the covers of my books (it just shows greyed-out squares). It also doesn’t sort the books in the same order across devices when I try to sort by anything other than title or author, and there is no option to manually sort the books into folders to keep it easier to find things with a big library. This app needs some major updates, because it is unusable in its current form.
Server error 1/5
By Samurai Short
Like so many others, I can not use this app because it refuses to work with my Overdrive account with my local library, I continually get the “Connection Error Detected” message. I’ve tried it on the newest iPad, an iPad Air, and iPhone 6s, with no success. Sadly, Adobe does not seem to care in the least because this obviously affects many users and has been going on for quite awhile.
By Dr. IBF
The absolute worst ebook reader imaginable.
Loathe this app 1/5
By Cardinal 55
This app is terrible and never works. Regardless of the connection it always says it cannot connect to server.
One of the worst apps out there 1/5
Why Adobe cannot create a digital reader that’s equal to acrobat or at least has a few useful features that actually work is beyond comprehension. They’ve been in the business far too long to make excuses. This app is as clunky as clunky gets. Better to stick to hard copies of textbooks if possible than waste your time with a Stone Age app that even a caveman would find lacking.
Horrible: Does not work 1/5
After 1 1/2 hours chatting with Adobe support to resolve an "unable to contact server" error they gave up said to just post a question on their forum page as they "don't support this 3rd party app". In other words it does not work and they can't (won't) fix it. BTW, the app has an Adobe 2017 copyright... so their attempt to blame a 3rd party is pretty lame. Typical of Adobe... My suggestion: Find another book format. Stay away from ePub books...
Worst ever. Wish my library would find a better solution. 1/5
Abandon hope all ye who enter.
Can't even try it because of errors
Absolutely Useless 1/5
Very poor documentation, login and authorization system keeps users running in circles - without end. Like others, I've come back to this app for years, hoping that it has been fixed. Nope. How this EVER got adopted by libraries and others to make it easy to download and enjoy their offerings, I'll never understand.
Overall a good app, could use more improvements. 3/5
Great app, just wish it offered more futures and advanced futures that Adobe PDF provides. I would also like to see this app support split-view mode in a future update.
By asah dude
I'm in disbelief at how bad this app can be, and even looking back 5 years, it is STILL as bad today.
"Go to Page" does not work (are you kidding me???)
It takes me 20 minutes on average to load a book from the cloud.
There are tons of weird zoom glitches, that end up making the book ultra small in the top left corner of the iPhone screen.
Ive used this app for a total of about an hour and it already is the worst thing in existence on my phone.
I feel bad for the development team of this program. Someone in management absolutely does not care about the quality of this app.
Unable to download e-books from library 1/5
By Wild Type
I tried to use this app to download Overdrive e-books borrowed from our county library. The app fails to connect with the fulfillment server, so e-books can't download. I tried the app on my iPhone 5S, iPad Air 2 and Samsung tablet, with the same frustrating results. I was however able to successfully use the PC version of Adobe Digital Editions, and can transfer downloaded e-books onto my Nook Simple Touch Reader. For smartphone and tablet users who want to borrow Overdrive e-books from a library, I would highly recommend the Libby app. It's excellent!
Does not work 1/5
This app does not work on iPad. A total waste of time trying to set up an account with Adobe since the fields offered through this app don't work. Deleted.
Terrible does not work 1/5
Can't download books from my library. The error message says there is a connection problem
Unable to get past "Connection Error Detected". 1/5
By AF Honey Badger
Program does not appear to work.
Ugh. What horrible software. 1/5
Please kill this app and apologize before you ruin any more ebooks.
I agree 3/5
I agree with leairving's post. Hopefully Adobe will fix the problems.
Won't fulfill book. 1/5
Checked out ebook from library. Tried to download onto phone. Wouldn't fulfill order. Works on computer tho so that's what I'll be using just for this book because it won't let me "fulfill" my order in two places, but then after I'm done, I'll just use Overdrive.
So Buggy 1/5
Sporadic unresponsiveness. Highlights the wrong passage. Does not sync bookmarks and highlight across devices. Overall it is a severe distraction.
Not for public libraries 2/5
By Olmue Ann
To download a book electronically from my public library, they require opening this adobe digital system - which does not work in any way, shape or form. I've notified my public library system. If someone, somewhere, HAS gotten this app to work, please inform the rest of us.
Not up to Adobe standards 2/5
I use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Best programs, hands down. Unfortunately this app is confusing and awkward, expecially compared to Kindle. Needs work, great potential.
Poor sync, poor page presentation. 2/5
Anyone using this on more than one device is wasting their time.
Not for School or Recreation 2/5
There are problems that me and all of my classmates mentioned while we were using this app. The main problem is that it lags and stops a lot if you are using it offline. When you flip through pages too much, it starts to freeze for a while before you can flip the pages again. So when we were looking for a certain page in our ebook, the app lagged every 10-15 seconds. This happens less frequently with internet connection, but it can still happen. Especially if the app has not loaded certain parts of the book yet.
Another problem is that there isn't a simpler way to find a certain page. Even though the app has a scroller that helps you jump through the pages, it doesn't indicate which page you're going to flip to. If there's a way you can do this in the future, that would be good as well.
TL;DR I don't recommend this app for anyone who wants to use this for ebooks. Whether for educational or recreational purposes. It's better if you find an app that can do so much better until Adobe fixes these problems. It's not worth it.
Doesn't work 1/5
Downloaded this app to read an library ebook, and it won't allow me to open the book. I get an error message every time.
Don't waste your time; app totally worthless 1/5
The app is worthless! You can't get access to any of your books. It give a lame useless error saying connectivity issue check your internet connection. No amount of help, search, or forums allows you to resolve this problem. If you are looking at this app; step back, turn around and run away!!!!
There's still room for improvements 3/5
The 3-star is for the fact that I'm thankful for it to have a mobile app counterpart at all; this is also the first time ever I'm reviewing an app for my phone.
Adobe digital editions is my only means to read the ARCs provided by NetGalley, so I started off with the pc app, and was soon pleasantly surprised that in addition to that I can read when I commute since there's this mobile app.
However, a great difference is that the mobile version doesn't label the remaining time before expiration, which is inconvenient when I've re-downloaded the same title to expand the time; it's just an extra step to go through, having to switch to sort by purchase date to remove the sooner expired copy, when I usually prefer to sort by last read.
It's also quite troublesome ATM because for some reason it stopped retrieving my recent downloads, and I have absolutely no idea why. I've refreshed several times, closed the app and opened it back on, and turned off my phone then turned it back on to do the same, but refreshing still didn't get me my new ARCs, which my account is authorized to read and can do so on my laptop.
I just really hope this could be fixed soon, otherwise my commute time would go back to being boring, and at the same time I'll have to squeeze my other time in order to read the ARCs.
Won't download library books 1/5
Get a connection error when I try to add library books. There is no adequate support for this problem on the adobe website.
By jp library
All I wanted to do was read some books that I downloaded from my library's website. This app didn't allow me to download the books onto my phone or even my nook. Not a happy customer.
Tragic experience 1/5
By cj mesina
Buying an ebook from a supposedly reputable group such as ELSEVIER means that the user should have full-access to the document; including being able to highlight, underline, annotate, and even scribble with ease.
How come that with ADOBE DIGITAL EDITIONS, highlighting a document needs to be done through several unnecessary steps?
Adobe Acrobat Reader seamlessly allows users to read and enjoy their materials as if it is a real book complete with close-to-reality-user-interface (making reading interesting and convenient for end-users)
ADOBE DIGITAL EDITIONS is clearly a rearward form of technology a lot of people would fall victim to.
I am utterly disappointed with ADOBE DIGITAL EDITIONS and with ELSEVIER as well for forcing us to access paid ebooks through this deplorable app.
It's functions are quite primitive. There is no back button in the app to jump to the previous page. There is no sync across devices. Each book in each device is standalone. I spent more money on pdf book I bought than kindle version not knowing these bothering limitations. I am limited in my flexibility due to above constraints ex. A highlight in the pdf text doesn't sync not across devices as it is standalone with no sync and you can't get to pick up the book again where you left when you switch devices. I don't recommend pdf version of any book because of the limitations of Adobe digital edition. It's not worth the name and branding of Adobe.
I couldn't delete it fast enough 1/5
Won't download library books? Pffft, I'll stick with the kindle app which works perfectly. This is a junk app
Garbage app 1/5
Horrible App! 1/5
Absolutely awful app! I can't access the library books that I download on my computer. I get a connection error every time.
"Connection Error Detected". Won't download library books. Just keep getting error. Junk app, good thing it was free. Don't download! Wish I could give zero stars.
Won't download to my iPad 1/5
This app just gets stuck while trying to download to my iPad. Useless! I wouldn't even give this one star if I could.
This app says it cannot connect to the internet while on iPad. Will not work if I use cellular data either.
Do not download
Not returning book 3/5
I like the app, because it connect my PC with my iPhone. But I don't like the fact that I can return the books I borrowed.
Wasted my time downloading this trash despite the ratings. Tried to authorize my account and it cannot connect to the server. What a waste of time. I wish my library hadn't switched to this format. AVOID
Bad connection 1/5
By Nook fan
Couldn't even use this app. Every time I tried to authorize through the app using my iPad, it keep saying error connecting to network and to connect to internet. Not sure what else it wants from me since iPad is connected to wifi.
Could Not Go Lower Than 1 Star 1/5
Shame on me by not reading the reviews and listening to others!!! ABE is not a good product.
I think that it is very bad that some companies try to sell you a book - but do not let you know that you have to use ABE until after the purchase. Which ABE continues to fail. Save yourself time and money - use a different program.
Can't connect to activation server. Great start.
In the FAQ there's a question about the W_ADEPT_CORE_LOAN_NOT_ONRECORD error, which I get with the Bluefire Reader (now I know the real source of the error). Apparently you cannot borrow a book again, even if my library is quite happy for me to do so. Stupid! And no solution given.
I don't know why adobe is not caring after many bad reviews. I couldn't login. It throws "digital editions could not connect to activation server" error. I've been trying from 1 week. I couldn't read the books I bought. I wasted everyday 2 hrs of my time on this. I wouldn't recommend this app to others
By Uncle Flavio
"Please make sure you are connected to the internet."
You mean the internet I just used to download this terrible app? Ugh.
Doesn't even deserve one star. 1/5
Minus 10 stars 1/5
Absolutely useless! Whoever they paid to write this needs to fired...
