Great app 5/5
I find new trails all the time on All Trails. If you love the outdoors it's a must have.
Fun app 4/5
By Doug Houck
It is useful and interesting.
Needs improvement 1/5
Takes a lot of time to load ... I tried on pro version but wasn’t able to load it at Grand Canyon!!! Bummer. I had already downloaded the trails still it refused to load just got busy circle. I had to use another app (Endomondo) which is not a hike app per se but worked well. First thing I did after that is cancel the subscription for all trails. They charge for a year so forget about refunds. Can be a good app if loads quickly and if it works.
Useful to discover trails; but watch out for trail errors 3/5
By Jonathan M.C.
Useful app — I use to discover trails, not to record workouts. However, some trails in base map have errors that can’t be fixed quickly (via OSM). So, make sure you check other map sources (Google Maps, park’s web site)
I use this app to find trails but the filters don’t work other than the city filter. When I put in closest it brings up the same trails and not the closest. It takes a lot of time to find what I’m looking for.
Hands down, fav app on my phone!! 5/5
By Moe Moe Monster
Extremely pleased with this app! Very informative and easy to navigate. Instead of spending hrs on the laptop making a list of potential trails I’d like to try I can simply click on the app, filter what I’m looking for in an area I want to go and bam! me and the dog are on the road. The app even redirects you to a map app to get you to the trail head! I love the History and Stats options too so I can keep track of where we’ve been and always look for new trails. Love Love Love!!
Needs a lot of work. 2/5
I used to love this app, but as time has gone on, I've had more and more weekends ruined by it due to the lack of what should be necessary details.
Some of the navigational and routing issues I understand because a lot of the destinations are places roads can't take you to. That stuff I can figure out.
But there are a lot of things I would consider need-to-know information that aren't listed, such as whether the trails are in a facility that has certain hours (I got to a trail at around 4 specifically to take sunset photos from an overlook only to find that the gates for that trail locked at 4:30 in the afternoon), whether the trail requires a pass/permit/fee that may require one to bring cash or a check, whether there is as kiosk at the trailhead with a map or if you're solely reliant on your phone, etc.
This information seems pretty simple for users to provide but currently, the only way to get this information is to scroll through the reviews of a trail until you find the one that has that info, if it's there.
$30 for a subscription would be a small pittance for an app that did what this promises, but with all these important details that can make or break an afternoon or even a weekend left in the fog, it's a bit of a ripoff.
FANTASTIC APP 5/5
Look, I've read over a few of these reviews and responses from alltrails. This app is designed to provide users with plenty of info and details regards trails in your area and it does just that. I HIGHLY recommend the PRO version. You can use the app offline and download any map you want. The overlays and additional map points and details are unmatched on any outdoor trail app ANYWHERE. I AM A VERY EXPERIENCED hiker and I know my way around. However, this app makes me SMART as a hiker and it is excellent for planning, tracking, navigation, etc. I love to record hikes and check photos of other hikers too. IMO. this is the best app out there
Find gems you never knew about 5/5
By Alexander 1234567890
I've found so any fantastic hikes I never knew were nearby. I rely on the maps for some trails that are tricky and it works even if you loose internet connection, just have it open to your Desired trail and begin your next great adventure
I have the free version
Awesome Tech Support 5/5
By Insurance Agent in Cali
I Accidentally deleted a hike and the tech team somehow magically resorted it. Thank you!
This is the only app you need for hiking. I have used it on many hikes. Make sure to use the cool photo feature!
Hack: Also your GPS app still works on airplane mode and you will save on battery without your phone trying to ping cell towers that don’t exist in the back country.
Don’t hike without it 5/5
AllTrails is great for mapping and tracking my hikes. I rarely have issues, it doesn’t drain my battery while recording, and works fine with no cell service. I love to rate and make lists of my hikes. Seriously not sure what I would do without it.
Nice app but flawed. 3/5
Really like this app as a Trail resource. But you can’t see what you are writing when adding a review.
Love it 5/5
By Denver - Reborn
Works Great! Even with Sprint service.
Finger Rock trail(#42) to Mount Kimball 5/5
By Nick Naming
This is an all day ordeal that will require a 3 liter bladder for hydration. The 5 miles up is over 4000’ elevation gain. The distance & gain are similar to Mount Wrightson which is in Madera Canyon, an hour south. This hike allows a walk along Pusch Ridge to Pima Saddle. Hike back down thru Pima Canyon for over 12 miles. A car shuttle is needed to complete this loop. The loop took us 11 hours including lunch and picture taking. Start at sunrise to insure completion by sunset. Make sure to bring headlamps just in case. There are a few spots where you can take a wrong turn. Look for the cairns. At the Pima Saddle metal sign you can go up for great views. The path down heads West & is easy to miss due to a rock slab. The difficulty is similar to hiking Bright Angel trail to Indian Gardens & back the same day.
Update 4* - latest update fixed the loading times.
2* Loading..... still loading..... hold please, just loading.....
The app is just fine, but if you want to fire it up to check something while you’re out and about, expect Windows XP initializing times!!
Great app for finding hike everywhere 5/5
We have used this app all over the US. It’s been a great way to find hikes that match what we are looking for depending upon the day.
Needs to integrate w/ Apple HealthKit 2/5
The content is there, but they do not integrate w/ Apple’s Health app. So none of your hikes will count towards your calories or workouts in the Apple Activity or Health apps. That’s a deal breaker for me.
Worse yet, they absolutely cripple the app by not allowing you to use any maps offline unless you pay $30 every year.
If you hike every month, $30/yr is fine. But for those of us that only hike a a few times a year, $30 is not a great deal.
They need to have other options for casual hikers, such as $10 a year that only lets you download a maximum of 10 hikes, or something like that.
By its very nature, hiking is usually in areas with no cell phone signal, so offline access for a hiking app is a basic necessity. So if you make everybody pay $30 a year, even when they only use the app a few times a year, you are forcing your more casual users to go find less expensive alternatives.
Limited Use & Cancellation Difficulties 2/5
The use of maps depends upon connectivity and access to Internet, which is not always or rarely possible in the back country. Maps are good through the website portal if printed prior. In trying to cancel the automatic renewal and payment I am stuck in a feedback loop between the app and the website. It is best to cancel through a desktop unless purchased through the App Store.
Very helpful app 5/5
By Peyton Man
Great for finding new hikes and for scouting out trails in advance to see which ones are a good fit for time, ability and scenery.
The new trail king 5/5
Lots of recent development is great to see. This is my go-to app for recording adventures. Nice work.
Fun on the surface, worthless on the trail 1/5
This is a good app for looking at the trails out there and seeing the pics people have taken but unless you only hike in metropolitan locations with good cell phone service, this app is absolutely worthless. Can't pull up "downloaded" maps and I find the maps are not correctly synchronized to real GPS locations. Prepare to get lost if you plan on using this app.
Love the app, but... 4/5
I really enjoy this app for finding new places to hike, but I wish there was an option to list the trials I’ve been to without recording them.
Doesn’t work anymore. 2/5
By Ahoo Betty
All the app does is load the page for a park and then completely freezes. Lame.
Edit: this is only true of some trails.
Good app 4/5
Good app but it lacks swipe to go back after the latest update...not sure if it was enabled before but it isn’t there now and it is a huge usability issue.
Perfect solution 5/5
I really love being able to download maps and track where I'm going. It works great with the GPS even when in Airplane mode. I also love being able to share my hikes with friends, especially the ones I've explored with.
Just what I needed! 5/5
Wanted an app to track distance, speed and gps while horseback riding. This app has all the parks in Central Jersey that I ride in! Great to see where I went and drop down the real picture of the park. Love it!
New User Kind of Frustrated 3/5
By M Shaw
In principle this app was exactly what I was looking for but it has a couple of things lacking which are kind of frustrating.
First it seems to be incomplete. One specific example is Raptor Ridge Viewpoint in Escondido. I know that it is a continuation of a trail but it sure doesn’t show up.
There are some trails that have no information on them, you just see the trail symbol, you can’t highlight it, so basically it is a map only.
Then the display is frustrating because you can basically only highlight one trail at a time, so you lose information of trails that connect to it, I understand there’s a reason for wanting to display a single trail if someone is only looking for one trail but when you’re just exploring an area you want to see all the available trails.
Amazing app if you love hiking! 5/5
Traveling for work this app lets me find a hiking trail anywhere!! It’s just Awesome!!!
Best hiking app 5/5
App had some bugs recently, but they seem to have been resolved.
Great app for discovering and tracking trails.
Love this ap 5/5
Use this as we travel and explore hikes close to home!
Awesome / Useful App 5/5
Great upgrades, much easier to use. Suits all my adventure activities...kayaking, hiking, trail running, and just runs anywhere
Accurate and reliable 5/5
This was a great app to have. I never got lost with this. It of course works better with a service network that covers more areas. Sprint network may experience greater dead zone. I have at&t, so it tracked my movement accurately. I think with this app, I’ll feel confident exploring new trails on my own. Love it!!!
Fix this bug in latest version that shows duplicated activity & photos 2/5
Everything including recorded activities & uploaded photos now displayed twice: what a distraction!
Shows trails I did know were there 5/5
What fun! Great maps on my simple hikes, and I hope it will serve me well as I graduate too harder hikes. Better parking info would be helpful.
However, comments and reviews unrelated to the app or the specific trail are allowed to persist. At the very least, I would like to see a "report abuse" button that would flag a comment for all trails staff review, so they can if applicable delete, edit, or send back to the writer for editing.
Incredible App 5/5
By Lamine Diop
I love AllTrailand was hesitating to subscribe. Oh boy! It the best investment I made in any app I have purchased so far.
I highly recommend it to any serious hiker.
Drain the swamp of melted snowflake water! 5/5
I don’t think you should be able to to get comments removed. The best solution is for all the little snowflakes to stop hiding behind anonymity of the net. Be a man or woman and stand up and say something. Are they monsters? Are they going to eat you? Growaset. If you don’t like the comments don’t read them.
Great for finding hikes 5/5
Awesome app, has almost every trail you could think of, so it's easy to discover hikes all around you that you never knew existed. Gives great information on every hike. Super helpful
Love the app!! 5/5
By Unbridled Insight
I use it ever time I go hiking!
Awesome app! 5/5
This app has been my constant companion since I got it 5 months ago. Excellent options, reviews are great, works great. It only led me astray once to a trailhead and I was able to use a map from another reviewer to find a trailhead. I’ve used it 32 times in last 5 months
Beats my Garmin fenix 3 5/5
By Chief Consigliere
I really like the app use it a lot I only wish it was watch compatible is this a possible future update
It's a great app, just needs Apple Watch support! 4/5
Would be amazing if it had an Apple Watch app, something to start/pause recordings, get a sense of distance, and quick view of where you are on the trail. Otherwise, it's a great app.
I like it 5/5
Really like that the app shows you all the trails close by and tips about parking or how clean, safe, easy etc. the trail is!
Great App 5/5
By Cathy Ann 78
Love this app! Great why to discover new trails!
Randy Bell trail 5/5
Nice pleasant stroll after a late lunch - beautiful trees!
Apple Watch 4/5
This app would be perfect if you could develop this for the Apple Watch. Most other hiking apps I’ve found do not have the same number of trails available as AllTrails does. Having this on my watch would make my life easier then having to look at my phone every now and then.
Read the reviews before you venture, invaluable.
Easy to Navigate and track your hikes
I am 100% sure you need this!!!
Alltrails app rocks! 5/5
I've heard about this app from a fellow mountain biker. I tried it and found it very useful. Riding in a forest is safe with it, you can always find the way back! Then, I tried it on hiking trail and loved it! It provides the information you really need. No surprises which turn to take, it all works! Then, documenting the trip and sharing the recorded trail, as you went, with photos on the way, great!
