This app works 5/5
Use it for work and for play. I would recommend it to anyone who spends time in the woods.
Easting Northing (UTM) numbers are wrong 5/5
Must try 4/5
Works great. That’s all there is to say!
Outstanding Customer Service 5/5
I recently lost all my maps because of lost data. I didn’t back my maps up either. The only proof I had was receipts from iTunes. They found my maps for me & uploaded to my account.
As far as the maps goes, the image quality is spot on & very useful when hiking & using the GPS. The best map company to have in your phone.
Good app but free version is too limited 3/5
By Cumberland Plateau Hiker
I do not like to pay for apps and do not like the limited number of maps you can import. 3 is not enough
Love this App 5/5
Use this app all the time for work and hunting and all sorts of stuff.
Avenza app for maps as a professional guide 5/5
By Az Big Bulls
Avenza has created a user friendly map app that, we are convinced there’s no better app for maps. The use is so easy the map clarity is excellent and the accessibility to maps such as flatline maps are great.
Glamis area 5/5
Love the maps just hard because BLM says it's a no riding area and you get tickets
No map detail 1/5
By wooley bugger
Bought a $5 forest service map for hunting in Montana and there was not enough detail for it to be of any use. There might be good maps on this app but why would I dish out more money with no quality assurance??
Import maps 2/5
I'm not happy that I have to pay a yearly fee to import maps
It works 5/5
By Guy D.
Follow the blue dot right across the contour map. Easy as pie.
Pretty good for hiking 5/5
By Robert the Red
I find the “Enhanced” USGS topo maps at 99¢ each to be a good deal. Clearer than the scanned maps and locating myself on GPS is handy. Main drawback is finding the maps I want — it’s tricksy sometimes.
Love this app! 5/5
By Anonymous ---6633
I use this app all of the time! I even downloaded maps before we went to Greece and it worked great!
Must have app! 5/5
Saved me when my ATV broke down on a trail in the middle of nowhere. Would have literally been lost without it. Real time. Reliable.Thank goodness I had cell service.
Usgs topos for free! 5/5
Better than a $400 Garmin pos.
Trying to figure out 4/5
I thought I bought all the maps in is that but only one of them is showing up but it really could be operator error to be honest hopefully I can figure it out
Low cost good value 5/5
For a free app and .99 maps, I have postponed my comparison of traditional GPS tools for hiking. I have great success laying down the breadcrumb trails and looking at the end of each one how long and how far. Great tool!
Great tool for the trails 5/5
By CO Truck Owner
This app is extremely useful while riding unfamiliar trails. It helps you understand where you are on a trail, what options you have to change your route and gives you confidence to explore since you know you can find your way back.
Not bad! 4/5
More user-friendly than my Garmin 62st and a heck of a lot less expensive! Nice features. Would love to be able to share waypoints with other users. Used it on a Colorado elk hunt. A few times, it would not locate me on the map, which was frustrating, so giving it 4 stars instead of 5.
My thoughts 4/5
Overall very useful app. To improve, the AP needs add an export option for the created overlays.
It is a great App I use it riding dirt bikes does an amazing job tracking. Have loved all the new updates keep them coming. Thank you
Life saver 4/5
By celtic hiker
The free topology produced by the United States Geological Service have saved me several times in the field.
Avenza... a good go to source for maps 5/5
I’ve found much of what I need through this app, and it works well.
Right price for topographical data! 5/5
Free maps!!! Able to use to get the lay of the land. Great tool with a great price. Pin you best spots!
Love/hate Avenza new gersion 3/5
Love the app and find very useful as a hunter/outdoor recreationist. However, since you began restricting how many of my own PDF maps I can load at one time, the app is useless whenever I don't have cellular coverage which is just about always while in the field. Very disappointing.
Great app 5/5
I've been using it since 2014 and love it. I make all my own maps in GIS and it works perfectly all the time. I've even started using it for triangulating in telemetry. Being able to draw the bearing and distance is sweet. Great app!
30 bucks a year? No way. 1/5
A subscription fee to import your own maps. How stupid do you think people are?
Excellent application 5/5
It is very convenient to be able to use Avenza to import existing maps like all of the USFS ranger district maps and various hunting zone maps. Simple to use and save changes
Great maps 5/5
By Sky Island Photographer
This app has helped me navigate new biking trails many times this summer. The accuracy is spot on. It is very battery friendly. It is easy to use and I don't have to belong to some club and share my workouts. Maps, plain and simple, with route saving options. Doesn't get any better.
This app works great and keeps you from getting lost.
I wish the free version allowed you to have more saved maps.
Use with a tracking app 5/5
This app is the only one I’ve found where I can purchase the NY/NJ Trail Conference maps which give exactness as to our many interwoven trails in Harriman State Park, NY. Hit the location icon and I know exactly where I am. I use this app with Gaia GPS to record my track and elevation and time profile. Yes I’m paying extra and there’s some redundancy, but Gaia GPS doesn’t provide the exact trail map, and Avenza doesn’t record time and elevation profiles, etc. so I use both.
Great app, go to for work in NF lands. 4/5
4/5 due to inaccurate track log distances
NationalForest Roads 5/5
The maps of the national forest roads are free and very useful. They're accurate and very up to date, at least in New Mexico.
Great app, except the annual USFS renew 3/5
I was really enjoying using this app, and put a lot of work into getting USFS supplied maps in your app for work purposes. Then, we got notices all this work maybe for nothing as of September 15, and it was confusing, to say the least, to figure out what happened. Please work on the process annually to renew, and make it more seamless. I ended up deleting maps and then figured out the problem and then added my maps back in. It took hours.
Great app with an unfortunate limit 4/5
This is a great app for viewing home made pdf maps. Alas the non-subscription version is limited to three maps. There is no way to buy out of the limit. Only a subscription to the service where the maps are useless to me for outdoor use.
Love the ease of use and download feature for free MVUM’s!
Great app 5/5
Give it a try.
bait and switch 1/5
way to bait and switch by charging people to import maps all of a sudden. hopefully someone will create a competitive app and kill your monopoly. i'll pay for a competitive app that i don't update and all of a sudden loose previously included functionality over paying your company.
Need Track Acreage 4/5
Need to calculate acres, or distance of a track. I would bump it to five stars with that addition. Nice work, great app!
Functional but needs gps map search 3/5
I’ve use this app for years, and it works great for your local hike. One annoyance is there is no automatic map selection for your current location. It would be great if you have the correct map come up With your current GPS location, without having to remember arcane names for these maps to reach the proper map for your location
Great quality but limited 3/5
This is a fantastic and very useful app for work and fun. However, you are limited to only having three maps saved in the app at one time with the free version, so if you want more than that prepare to pay a small fee.
Works great 4/5
By Regret Purchase
I would like to be able to see distance traveled realtime while recording a track rather than only seeing the distance at the end.
Update: thanks for the reply that works. I would personally prefer the distance displayed in a static location like the start stop bar but this works. Note I have no idea how my review name became regret purchase especially since I gave a good rating.
Latest update breaks ability to use third party keyboards 4/5
The latest updates appear to have broken the ability to use third-party keyboards. The stock iOS keyboard is the only one available, and the key to switch keyboards is disabled.
Please fix this behavior.
Pretty good app 4/5
By Edward Leach
I use this app while flying. And it works great. I think it’s performance really depends on the quality of the map you add. My only real complaint and it is really not a complaint only a suggestion is that I cannot zoom in or out while wearing my flight gloves, like any other app I use while flying. Most other apps have added a plus or minus button that you can zoom in or out with using a stylus which is what I have to do when I fly. I would like to see a zoom plus or minus button add it to the map page
Completely useless!!! 1/5
It took two of us (my buddy is pretty smart with maps and gps) and we still could not figure out how to use this app. We couldn't get it to load anything. It was a complete waste of time. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I will be deleting this app. I'm not sure what everyone else did to make it work, but my maps on my phone are way more useful than this junk. Don't waste your time, find maps elsewhere.
Great app! 5/5
By bedlam and drudgery
I've been using this app for several years. I share a single account across all my mobile devices. Instead of needing to buy paper maps of things like National Geographic trail maps, I can buy them for the same price in this app, and have them gps enabled, traceable, and portable.
My local open spaces org recently uploaded all their trail maps to the Avenza store -- and they are free to download!
Also a big fan of the Redwood Hikes company trail maps. Great for pretty much everywhere in California that has redwoods and hiking trails...and cheaper to purchase here than buying the printed copies.
I've tried pretty much every mapping and tracking program. If you want free maps like open source stuff, there are fine sources like Motion X. But if you want commercially available maps, I can't think of a better app in the App Store.
Complete waste of time 1/5
Don't even bother.
This is not user friendly and the cost per map is a little out of control. You only get portions of a management unit so it is in fact useless. Heaven forbid you need to see what's next to the very small map you purchased. Just not good. Avoid it and buy a real map
This app takes free pdfs and charges you to use them. You are much better off using something like Google Maps or Maps.me. In this apps you can download areas in great detail and your gps will still work the same way it works in the avenza app. The biggest difference is that the other apps are free! And I'm not sure about Google Maps but with maps.me you can actually get turn by turn directions while you are offline. You can even create a new rout and get directions offline!
Save yourself the money and disappointment. Skip this app and look elsewhere.
