Bear Review 3/5
Great little app with good Apple Watch support.
2 gripes: Not a fan of the subscription pricing model at all. Would much rather pay outright. Don’t like that ALL of the dark themes are locked behind the paywall. It would be nice to be able to buy a dark theme like Dieci to use on my iPhone X without having to pay for a monthly subscription. Would gladly pay $.99.
Amazing App! 5/5
I’m a huge writer, and I’ve been using the Apple notes app for years, but it’s garbage compared to Bear! Bear is awesome! Everything is so clean and amazingly designed, and it’s so simple. It’s so easy to write great-looking articles and stories on this app. If you’re a writer looking for a new way to write stories, this app is definitely for you! Download this now!!!
Excellent app 5/5
Great design , easy to use
This app is just amazing. 5/5
I love the art, and, well, everything! Well done, shiny frog! 🐻 forever!
my most favorite app in 2017 5/5
I cannot live without it now!
A Note Takers Dream App! 5/5
I love everything about this app.. it’s simple to use, beautiful, and covers anything a note taker like me could think of. Go PRO, you won’t regret it.
Love this app 5/5
I want you to know that I use this app often and love how the team works at improving it time and time again. I use it to take notes and also to write down the sermons. If you are frustrated with other apps and want to edit text and have it not look like crap or want it organized go with bear instead.
Slow as molasses 3/5
This app on my phone is slow as molasses. It’s got very useful features but so slow! I’ll change the battery on my phone (6S Plus, 128 GB) and see if there’s any improvement.
best. app. ever. 5/5
single criticism: APPLE WATCH. PLEASE. other than that: perfection.
Loving Bear! 5/5
Thanks to Mark’s help (great customer service), I am now enjoying Bear to the fullest. So many helpful ways to take notes and share them. Examples: add drawings, photos, create tags, drag & drop, save to PDF, markdown, lists, links, etc., etc. If at first the app seems daunting, I recommend checking out the FAQs on their website—that’s where I learned. Great for blogging and everything else, too!
Like iA Writer, but for notes 😍 5/5
By Paul Mederos
I’m so happy I found this. I wanted to love Evernote, but it’s UI wasn’t beautiful to me. So I’ve used iA Writer for all my writing and notes... but it’s not really meant for note-taking so there’s nothing like tags and great markdown WYSIWYG support. Bear has both, and it’s so lovely to use.
Best of “note”-type apps 5/5
Notes for iOS, used to be the best app to utilize because it was so integrated. It was free with quite a few features.
Now Notes for iOS are not proactive - they are reactive to apps like this. Bear is a very useful, organized, multifaceted and creative app. I just wish all the features were free or you would have to pay a one time fee instead of a monthly service.
(I might be confusing this app with a different app where you have to pay a monthly service fee)
STOP BEING RIPPING OFF FROM EVERNOTE!!! 5/5
Bear is better in EVERY WAY
I had to pause my note-taking to write this review 5/5
Ok. Here’s my story.
I write a lot of content on my commute and at home. I used whatever app was easily accessible so I could quickly jot down my ideas before I forgot and build more content later. I’ve used the iOS notes app, google docs, trello and Evernote(briefly). Each of these products solved a particular pain point for me and as you can imagine I had content all over the place.
Then in an attempt to organize all this information I found Bear on the App Store. I had never heard of the app before. So I tried it out. Let’s just say I’m not regretting this. Bear is simple and elegant. Quick for jotting down ideas as the pop into your head, yet powerful for building on these ideas with more content. I love that I can quickly create a directory structure just by tagging my notes. And formatting your content is easy. I bought the yearly subscription after writing my first note. Didn’t even read what the yearly subscription offered. I was sold, and it had a good price point. I love the simplicity of the app (please Bear never make this more complicated) and look forward to seeing what else Bear offers
Sounds like a great app. 1/5
I downloaded this app and thought it would be perfect for what I want it to do. However, what is not mentioned is the fact that if you want to upgrade to the “pro” version you dont just pay for the upgrade, something I am more than willing to do for great software, but you have to subscribe by the month or the year. NO,NO,NO! If your app is useful and well designed, ask for a realistic price for the upgrade! As it is, your software no longer resides on my iPad. I hope others will also take a stand against this ridiculous “rent an app” model.
Bear beats all else 5/5
The title says it all; best purchase in awhile 👍🏽
Very nice.. not worth the subscription 1/5
While I like this app after trying it out I’m not interested in another subscription to get all the features. Sorry developers I’m disappointed with all the nickel and dimming for what should be a one time fee.
Bear is the best 5/5
I’ve used Evernote, OneNote, and Apple Notes. Bear beats them all. It’s been rock solid for me on iOS and on the Mac.
Never even realized a writing app could be this good! 5/5
Couldn’t be more impressed with how seamless and well thought out the experience is. Only recommendations would be a way to export a body of interlinked notes, or a way to easily order notes if that’s not an option, so that a collection of related notes can be easily exported in order.
The way headings are made need to change 4/5
It is so annoying and frustrating that when I select heading another window appears and with three options for headings, first i have to wait for the heading window to appear and then select the heading for text, i think that is inefficient, especially when you want to work fast, i wish this could be made shorter. I think the headings would be much more useful if they are placed in the scrollable bar with styling and other note taking utilities.
Otherwise it is a clean app with great features.
I could kiss the developers of this app, if I could <3 5/5
I spend all day writing ideas for games like characters, places or stories and when I'm not at home this app allows me to write my ideas the way I want to do it (for now). the app has a clean and simple interface, it has MANY options and is also intuitive.
Even though it is very good, it is not perfect. I think that it lacks the ability to edit the size and position of the images that are imported and the drawings that are made in the application. It has not been a problem for me, but I see it as a necessary function, for example: to illustrate an idea that I am writing in a single space (and not with the huge image above or below the paragraph).
Anyway, I will give it 5 stars because the app fulfills in a great way its purpose and I have not noticed any kind of problem related to the app.
Best Note Editor in the world! 5/5
I use this app daily on my iMac and iPhone. My favorite theme is cobalt, the best part about the app is it’s simplicity. You might wonder where the features are? That’s until you learn everything about the app then you realize how powerful it is, I highly recommend this app and it’s pricing is more than fair. I almost forgot to mention that you can speak to your Apple Watch using the bear app, and it will write everything directly to notes which is magical.
Clean and smart! 5/5
I really enjoy writing in this app. It has a very clean UI and a smart way of sorting and managing your notes.
I only hope they create a web version so I can also access it from work laptop.
Superb app 5/5
I love everything thing about this app!
In the future, I hope it will process LaTeX and do OCR for text in sketches.
Great way to stay organized 5/5
Bear 🐻 is very user friendly and has many options to choose from to personalize your to do list.
Syncing between Apple Watch and Phone needs to be more intuitive 3/5
I’ve had notes fail to sync up over extended periods of time only to have them appear three times when they finally sync over. Implementing a pull up to refresh or sync button would greatly improve the experience.
Best Notes App Ever 5/5
This app is the one. It's the best budget note-taking app on the App Store, hands down! It's got the Markdown formatting, it's got tags to organize your notes, it's got a clean and simple interface, it's got the bullet point and numbered lists, *cough cough* it integrates photos, hyperlinks, doodles, it's got checklists and A FUNCTIONING INDENT BUTTON. Also, it has these awesome arrow keys that let you quickly jump between lines in your notes. Don't even bother with any other notes app. Use this one free or with the paid subscription (which you really don't need!)
And for those of you who are wondering, YES it works without an internet connection. You're welcome. Now download the app.
So much potential... 1/5
This app has a lot of great things going for it but unfortunately the syncing between platforms is completely unreliable. I’ve spent hours rebooting deleting and reinstalling this app only to find that I can get some notes to sync and not others. I hope they fix this because I’d otherwise much prefer it to Evernote.
It Takes Productivity To The Next Level 5/5
Simply - it makes it so that you have no excuses to not be able to jot down that idea and begin work because all of this is connected.
I view the Apple Watch aspect of Bear as the “Ideation” phase. Just speak your mind, and then continue to flesh out and refine ideas on iPad or Mac.
Productivity apps are great - but none of it matters if you don’t put action to your words.
Bear for Apple Watch is the literal embodiment of this.
I can’t wait for more updates and stability!
Would Be Awesome If It Worked 1/5
The notes transfer over to my Apple Watch 1 out of 10 times. Frustrating.
Simplicity is beautiful 5/5
By Andy Fuqua
Love the simplicity in design and the ease of use. Yet, it doesn’t sacrifice functionality. The tag system is so much better than the standard notebooks found in most other note-taking apps. One note can have multiple tags and thus be included in multiple collections at once. Beautiful, simple, powerful, and fun to use. I wasn’t sure I’d like markup, but it’s super easy, and Bear helps you out. And beautiful. That’s important!
Fácil y convencional
Great app just one request 4/5
Please add the option to set alarms and reminders! Other than that I love this app
Bear Review 5/5

• Beautiful design
• Nice themes to choose from
• Clever new way to use hash tags to create "virtual folders"
• Fun to use
• Built in trash can! Love when note apps include this!
• Note linking!
• Inline image attachments

Ideas for Enhancement
• Have option to sort notes by creation date, in addition to modification date (which is the default now). (DONE)
• Show original creation date in the info panel, in addition to modification date. (DONE)
• More themes with lighter colors for day use (I.e. pastels) and/or ability for user to create their own theme
• Multi-level tags (currently the limit seems to be two levels - parent/child) (DONE)
• Built in calendar view. Useful for journaling, where you can see a calendar view of entries per tag or all notes that were created/entered on a particular day.
• Be able to Change Creation Date/ (or create a new field for user Entry/Added date) for back-dating notes, essential for Journaling use.
• "Time machine" for restoring a previous version of a note. (Like SimpleNote.)
• Note archive feature would be cool, like Google Keep.
• Typewriter mode
• Hash tag autocomplete (DONE)
• Back button and keyboard shortcut (useful for going back to a previous note after clicking on an internal note link or tag)
• Note templates
• Merge two or more notes into single note (DONE)
• Command click on highlighted text (in mac version) and create a new linked note
I think Bear is a great app with a bright future and amazing potential to be one of the best note apps of all time. That is from someone who's explored countless note and productivity apps since the early OS X days. May it flourish.
Best Note Taking App Ever 5/5
Been using Bear for I think 6mos+ now and I’m definitely hooked. Just love the idea of organizing my notes by tags (and nested tags) and links. And with the recent update of auto complete on tags and links the app is even more amazing! And I believe the recent update also added keyboard shortcut for going back to the prior notes that I was linked from is just fantastic (or maybe the shortcut is always there and I just found out).
Feature Request 5/5
I love Bear. It’s my number one app for note taking and writing. There is one feature I would love to see added in a future update, though: the ability to change themes based on the time of day. For example, I prefer to use a theme with a light background during the day, but love the new Dieci background on my iPhone X at night. It takes a few clicks and swipes to change the theme every time, so an auto switch option would save me a little time every morning and evening. Thanks!
Clean and stylish. But why does it show the markup code and can't you switch it off? Would be five stars otherwise.
Very Good, Not Great. 3/5
Bear is one of the most practical note apps out there with a very nice user experience & powerful editing tools. However, as a paid subscriber who uses bear for my business notes, it lacks two very important features:
1- End-To-End Encryption. I still use other tools that are more secure to important info & notes, Bear should offer this kind of security for the peace of mind of users who would like to keep supporting this great app.
2- Support for RTL (Arabic), it amazes me that Bear doesn’t support RTL, almost all the free & paid note apps out there do, please bring this to Bear.
Bear been beary, beary good to me. 5/5
The new tags feature: sweet. What a great way to organize ideas this app is.
Too Narrow on SE 4/5
Paragraph spacing/width is too narrow on iPhone SE. please reduce the margins on both sides of iPhone version a little bit.
on iPad pro, nice app!
I just dumped Evernote! 4/5
By iZen 2.0
Bear gets 5+ Stars when the PC desktop version of Bear becomes available for paid subscribers!
I’ve been using Evernote for many years, growing more and more disappointed and frustrated with Evernote as Evernote gets more and more complicated, slow, and buggy.
When I found Bear, I was thrilled! I downloaded Bear, checked it out, immediately purchased the paid version, and cancelled my Evernote subscription. Best move ever!
Looking forward to the PC desktop verion!
It feels solid 5/5
Would love to see an online version but the iOS and Mac apps are so fluid
Perfect for my needs 5/5
A few months in to my switch from Evernote I’m still loving Bear. Especially the new update to choose a tag when I start to type it. It is fast and elegant and fits my needs perfectly.
I have imported quite a few notes from Evernote but for some (recipe sites especially) I find i get a cleaner result by going back to the original web page and importing from there. I really like the much cleaner notes I get in Bear, without all the extra stuff I don't need.
I also love the much more reasonable price for the pro version.
Great app 5/5
I’ve been a Pro user since the beginning, and I have just a few recommendations.
- I wish that you could choose the app icon. I like some themes, but their associated icons are HORRIBLE!
- Is there a listing of the new TagCons? Most of my tags are the standard #.
- Why isn’t the new Dieci theme available on Mac? If I want a true black background, I should be able to get one!
- Why is the Dieci theme’s highlighting color yellow/orange? The default red would look much nicer. (Or how about a lot more true black themes???)
Fantastic update! 5/5
Bear has been my go-to for a while now for my wiki style notes, with many links between them. The auto-complete functionality that was just added has made that functionality twice as useful as before! Love, love, love it!
I also appreciate the squashing of iOS copy / paste bugs that had been annoying and are now gone. Great work on this update! Can’t recommend it enough.
Left Evernote after six years 5/5
I was an Evernote power user for six years. Like many of my Evernote-using friends, I grew increasingly frustrated with the bloated product, outdated design, and shoddy mobile apps.
I tried a couple of other note apps (Simplenote, Apple Notes, Google Keep), but none fit the bill.
Bear is a total game changer in this regard. BEAUTIFUL design. Very quick and responsive. Fantastic mobile apps. Reasonable pro upgrade price. And for other Evernote die-hards, importing your notes is easy and quick.
Such a delight 5/5
I’m very happy that I found this gem! Such a delight to use!
The Dieci theme is amazing! 5/5
I love the new theme. The blacks are so black! Pro features are worth it. I highly recommend this app and the pro features!!!
Beautiful and a joy to use 5/5
I've used a lot of notes programs, each for a different purpose, but within a week of using Bear, it was in my dock and it hasn't left.
It's gorgeous and easy to use, the perfect notepad for incoming ideas you can sort later. The interface is so thoughtfully crafted you can feel the love. It makes you feel like you're putting your thoughts in a beautiful, happy, safe space, which could make one take better notes.
I know this is a shoot-for-the-stars request, but if it could show a fountain document preview as you type (like Slugline on the Mac), I think I'd lose my mind. Gladly!
But really, I know that's a big ask. Any kind of fountain support would be lovely tho.
Thanks for the great app!
UPDATE: Put Slugline in Bear’s place on the dock when I got it, just to goose my use of that app. Bear is back. Still my input and environment of choice.
