More Plans 3/5
You need more than 3 plans. There are more than 3 kinds of people in the world.
Annoying voices 3/5
There should be two options of voices for each. I keep getting the same annoying lady for the ones I want to listen too.
New Home Screen App 5/5
Love this app. You can read one preselected blink a day for free (you have to navigate to home and select the “free daily option”) but the value is certainly there for the premium version.
Don’t waste your time 1/5
Marketing at its finest. Offers no actual information unless you want to pay for it.
I’d head to YouTube instead of wasting your time here.
I deleted the app thinking that it wails cancel the subscription.... it's not terrible but they miss a lot of important parts of some really great books. It just looks like I'm out a whopping $80 bucks... for something I'll never use, I wasn't aware that I would be charged that amount, super annoying, money doesn't grow on trees ya know! I'm assuming that the creators knew that users would cancel after about a week after the watered down literature, which is why they charge annually and offer an odd trial period. Users Beware. And a refund would be greatly appreciated!
Enjoy content app is awful 1/5
When the app is not crashing, it is nearly unusable in that I have to press play to advance to the next blink. And in doing so, it sometimes skips to one blink too far. This is maddening and just makes me angry instead of enjoying the content. When will this be fixed if ever? If not, I would like a refund.
Does Blinkist have support? They received my question several days ago with Netapp response.
No Stars 1/5
Don’t take a 7-day free trial as it will take you longer to unsubscribe. Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Repeat ad nauseam!!!
Love the app (missing night mode!) 4/5
Love the app. Please add a night mode for evening reading! I often read at night and the white screen is jarring. Either a typical night mode or red color shift/ blue light filter would be great!! Cheers : )
An advanced education for a year...LOVE THIS! 5/5
I really love everything about blinkist, the concept, the delivery and the daily email. I spend hundreds of dollars on books just sitting on my coffee table waiting to be read… No more! Now I'll know if a book is worth investing my $$ into with these fabulous summaries. I haven't tried the audio feature yet, but have a long car ride next week to check it out. Looks forward to being a lifetime subscriber and seeing where you take this...
HORRID content judgment 1/5
They’ve got trash like Dinesh D’Souza’s book explaining how generally liberal Democrats are the real Nazis.
If this is the kind of curating they do, serving up hate-mongering screeds boiled down into quick and easily digestible nuggets, then There’s no way to trust them to thoughtfully present more legitimate, factual, and useful material. Without trusting that, what’s the point?
And I certainly won’t contribute any money at all to a service that is promoting and spreading such disgusting, divisive propaganda. I will be deleting the app.
Won’t accept my subscription 1/5
By Tim Carhart
This app haunted me in ads on social media and I did finally cave to buy it. I’ve now charged my card several times and keeps kicking me off the subscription. I’ve wasted time on multiple days trying to trouble shoot this. What a waste.
Need to upgrade app to view content 1/5
By C. Blyth
Deleting straight away, the majority of content is only available by purchasing the upgrade - or - the app is not user friendly enough to find free content.
Genius !! 5/5
This app is totally genius . The content is amazing.
Facebook login on iOS doesn’t work 2/5
So I’m halted right at the starting gate because I can’t make an account and wanted to create one via Facebook. All it does is send me back to the app which then doesn’t reflect the logged-in status.
QA is a thing, guys. So is integration testing.
One of my favorites 5/5
Simple design and a new blink every morning to start my day. What’s not to love.
App never works 1/5
Great concept, but the app never works. For a while it kept crashing during audio books. Lately it won’t log me in, just keeps spinning. Don’t waste your money.
I downloaded app to check it out and am in 7 day trial. Instructions were to cancel at App Store. At App Store no cancellation instructions. I have deleted app and hope that constitutes cancellation. If not, please help!
The idea is good, but the app needs more effort 2/5
The whole user experience is not not that good, rather to say the app crashed many times while using
I'm offended by this apps existence 1/5
Half-hearted summaries of books you're too lazy to read. Like podcasts but worse in every way and paid. If you somehow don't have enough filler content in your life and you prefer to pay a premium, this app is for you.
Greedy app. Bad book reviews. 1/5
Way too much money. This app actually encourages you to buy the books instead. It’s cheaper to buy the book and you could get a better review skimming. Though it was cool at first cause as humans we are lazy.
Only one disappointment, otherwise great! 4/5
My one disappointment about this really handy app is that the free version doesn’t let you go back and finish a book the next day even if you’ve already started it. I was interrupted and unable to finish the book that day and found that my book was locked the next day when I was able to return to reading/listening, so I didn’t get to finish the rest of the book. I can understand wanting people to get the paid unlimited access to all books, but it would be nice at least to keep the books you’ve already read or started even in the free version.
Otherwise, I do enjoy this app, and the price for unlimited access seems fair if you can go that route. I see some people complain about the Blinks/summaries being incomplete. But this is really subjective. Everyone would summarize and focus on different points, so I’m not going to criticize that unless there’s blatant misdirection.
Thank you for this app! Keep up the good work!
I appreciate the need/desire to monetize this but the way it's set up to auto charge you in 8 days for 80$ feels intentionally trap-y
The usual pop culture selection 1/5
Pretty much the same selection of books one would expect a Book of the Month Club to offer. No depth whatsoever.
Nice Idea. Terrible Product Support 2/5
The content in this app is succinct and well written. I subscribed to premium and therefore, have read several summaries including a few for books I have already read. The summaries were good refreshers of the basic ideas in those I read. My problem is that many of the downloads to my phone have duplicate pages in the written summary. If you listen to the Audio version, the audio repeats the page as it appears in the written summary. I have written to customer support on this issue twice and never received a response. The $70 premium plan price is not too high given the wealth of content, but is high when the app is buggy and creates duplicate pages.
Fix highlighting on iPad and integrate Apple Pencil support 1/5
Fix it, this is inexcusable for an app I pay every year. Should be rudimentary
Really addicted 4/5
Some books are badly summarized but most books are good. The key is to figure out which kind of books to stay off on Blinkist. I am learning a lot while putting only 1/3rd of the time! I would rate 5 but he app wouldn’t let me highlight quotes (that take a full page)!
Could be great with a few improvements 2/5
I love the idea of this app. However, it is a serious problem that literally everything on it requires some sort of payment. How do you expect people to buy into your new idea right off the bat?
I would recommend adding a free section, rather than just one book a day. Even if it’s just three a day, a few options is a far better marketing strategy to get people to actually use this more than once.
More importantly, these free books should have a read-aloud option. This is why people are coming to your app, right? Because they don’t have time.
If you’re going to advertise the way that you do, I think this is going to have to change in order to reach any kind of success.
If you do make these changes, I will happily continue to use this app and recommend it to friends. Great idea, but needs improvement!
Buggy app, beware 2/5
In the free trial I downloaded this evening, I’ve found the following: easily reproducible highlighting bug that crashes app and forces restart (I’ve hit this bug six times tonight), repeats of content (Dr. Gregor’s book How Not to Die has double “blinks” - every chapter is repeated), and a filtering bug where sorting by progress doesn’t work. Oh, and it doesn’t sync between my iPhone and iPad, even though I’m logged into the same account on both. I’m impressed by the idea, as I spend mountains of cash on non-fiction, but really unhappy with their execution. I can’t focus on the content when the app keeps crashing or not working. Tried a competitor, found different problems that amounted to the same feeling: Seems like no one has really nailed the dismount on this idea. I’ll keep hoping, but I’m not buying anything yet.
Good but needs work 3/5
First, I love the concept of learning on the go. Blinks give me enough information to determine if I need to read the book or the summarized concepts are enough to go on. I have recommended the app to several friends and the free version is a great option to introduce new users. The 7 day FULL trial is another perk - there is a lot to discover and help you make the right decision and subscription plan.
As others have said the audio playback is an issue and I know they are working on it. I'm looking forward to this update because if I am playing over Bluetooth and it restarts or just stops a blink it's a pain to go back to my phone to get back on track.
I think recommended reading could be better, more intuitive based on previous interests and/or items added to reading f list. Feed recommends items already on my reading list or the same items (do not change) over and over. Perhaps a thumbs up or thumbs down option on recommendations would be a good future update to deliver the most relevant content to subscribers.
Despite the website that states there is a place to pay online and enter a promo code the website redirects me back to the App Store and wants to charge me the full amount and I am unable to enter the promo code for a year subscription. Also there is no option to select which sub option you want. Adding this feature to the app and the website should be standard. Found they answer questions on their site and there is a walkthrough for the screens and promo box you should see on the website but the walkthrough does not match what is on the site. Finally, I could entice more people to purchase a sub with the promotional price point or an option to recommend 2 purchase price points for read vs audio.
Great idea! 5/5
I downloaded several blinks before getting on a flight. They’re a great median between reading the entire book and reading a quasi informed blog. There are a lot of books who’s core idea I’d like to benefit from but don’t quite make my long reading list. This is the perfect solution for the in-between reads.
Careful they don’t mention cost before you down load. 1/5
I didn’t see any mention of cost before I down loaded and gave my email. Dishonest!!!
Great idea.. but 1/5
Update: I’m asking for a refund.
Update: I will cancel my membership within 30 days if you dont fix this. I have iPhone 6s, updated app and updated iOS. The audio keeps stopping and/or the app keeps crashing. Very disappointed.
The audio always stops in the 1st blink, I have to click the pause bottom to resume it, although it starts from the beginning of blink 1. Why does the audio stops in the middle of blink 1, very annoying.
Thanks for 50% off on Black friday. Still 39.99$ is high.
It used to be cheaper to join, why are you increasing the cost? Used to be cheaper, now the regular price is 80$. That is a lot of $, you can have many more subscribers if you go down to 25$ per year.
Can’t preview for free 2/5
They force you to give up information to try the app. Don’t want to spread my info around without knowing if an app is worth it.
I like learning through Blinkist 4/5
By Healthier Dan 😄😄😄
I got the Thanksgiving discount for the premium account and it's totally worth it. The phone app is great and very easy to navigate. The summaries of the books are good, but depend on the book. I use it a lot and listen to 2-3 book summaries every week. I recommend it!
Playback annoyances 3/5
The app will, without fail, repeat whatever chapter I play after 30 seconds of playback whenever i start a new track. This is very annoying.
Collecting nuggets of wisdom 5/5
As a professor I read a lot of books and articles. Everything that I read usually provides one to three important points. I love reading because I can collect nuggets of wisdom and understanding in one domain of knowledge. However, these days I don’t have time to read books in a wide range of subjects because of the time required.
I’ve been looking for an app that distills the major points in a short amount of time. Instaread is too basic and provides almost no context through relevant examples. I’ve been impressed with Blinkist because it provides enough context, and distills the main nuggets of wisdom in the book. There are also a sufficient number of titles of related topics that I can develop a deep understanding of content within a short time. I also know that if I want to understand the topic deeper I can get the whole book. I tried the free version for a week and reviewed about 20 books already. I’m planning to get the year long subscription. I am looking forward to learning a lot of things this year!
Read the 1 stars way down the list.. 1/5
By Doug Ditch
I thought I signed up for a free trial.. 2 years later I notice I have been billed for 2 years.. I thought I unsubscribed and deleted the app. After I had trouble activating the app from desktop to iPhone.. I even emailed them asking how to activate. Never used it... Please, as per my last email to customer service, I can’t activate to unsubscribe but you keep billing me. Please stop!!
Brilliant and not too bad of a price 5/5
$80 a year for an app?! what!!! i know i know, crazy right, BUT, actually if you think about it, thats the price of 8 books🤷♂️ this app is packed with way more value than 8 books and will cut through all the filling and give you you the golden nuggets out out of todays most impressive self help books and gives you the option of listening, reading, or both! Blinkist i dont care what anyone else says, i love what you're doing, keep it up🙏🏽
ps. you guys should make a family plan because i literally told my whole fam about this app lol
Enjoyed the app 2/5
Up until recently Blinkist offered one free book synopsis to read or listen to a day. Not all the books interested me enough to read them but listening to them while brushing my teeth and getting ready for the was perfect. Now that the listening option is gone the app is almost useless to me. It was good while it lasted.
SCAM!!! DO NOT DOWNLOAD!!!!! 1/5
Warning!!! This app is a scam!!! They charge your card for $80 and they have NO customer service number! They are non responsive and you can’t cancel! You can’t cancel before the trial is over and they charge your card without consent!!! I am working with my bank to stop these fraudsters!!!!
Great idea, not so great book selection 2/5
By can gunsiray
I'm not sure that was the intention, but you've made a perfect book selection comprised of self-help books for sociopaths looking to fit in.... Get some real books people
Garbage Application 1/5
Send an email to the developer over a month ago telling their App was virtually unusable via Bluetooth. App cuts out, segments repeat MULTIPLE times. It’s laughable. The developer replied that they are “aware of the situation” lol. Great... fix it.
For all the snowflakes complaining about it not being free: “there is no such thing as a free lunch”. It’s a great app and if you like devouring information, this is the app for you. It is not free, not advertised as such, so don’t be surprised when someone asks you to pay them for a service they are doing for you. If this annoys you, maybe spend more time in the economics side of Blinkist.
Not Actually a Free App 1/5
I downloaded the app because I loved the idea, but their “1 free per day” plan doesn’t even allow you to choose which summary you want to listen to. Don’t download unless you want to pay a hefty subscription fee. There wasn’t even a free trial option to test the service. Disappointing.
Big library but poor quality summaries 2/5
I really wanted to like this app/service. I read a lot and having access to quality book summaries would be very valuable. Unfortunately Blinkist doesn't deliver. Pros: there are a lot of books in the library...I was surprised that nearly every title I was interested in was available in the app. Cons: the book summaries ("blinks") are really subpar and don't provide a good overview of the book. I read several and they just skim the surface often missing the main idea of the book. I read blinks for books I've previously read and they never covered the big ideas in the book. Instead, they tend to focus on one or two themes in the book often missing the big picture and never providing a good synthesis. These are more like long book reviews rather than executive summaries.
Great idea but app has flaws 3/5
The books and blinks are great. Truly love getting a quick version of a variety of amazing titles. But the app has flaws on my iPad pro. If I highlight anything it doesn't save. Even from one blink before, my highlights are gone. What's the point of the app if you can't highlight what you wanted to go back to?
Delivers EXACTLY what it says 5/5
I don't know what app version or OS the ppl who are writing these bad reviews are using. I'm on iOS for about 5 years and no problems. My experience has been great. If you want a short succinct summary of the latest books then this is the app.
Love the app, one suggestion 4/5
By J Betty
I love the app and use it a lot. However there are days I am disappointed that the available book is not to my interest.
I would love it if the app allowed you to “veto” the automatic daily book, and then offer up another option. Maybe 2 alternative book options a day, total of 3? But still only one free read?
That would make this app the best!
amazing idea 5/5
would love to be available for everything more the better
Liberal BS 1/5
Every morning I listen to the free offering and for the last three days it has been liberal BS.
