It’s good but 3/5
I really like this because I do read a lot on my spare time and love psychology books but it’s not free. But the one a day does atleast offer some good content. Maby 3 would be better.
Love the App 5/5
Love the app. Really do. Great summaries, and I’m learning a lot on the trial. I will probably pay a subscription when the trial ends, however I think one of my only hesitations is how the subscriptions are handled. I’m not a business guy, but many apps will do subscriptions in a lump sum, so the technique must work. I don’t have the lump sum, so I appreciate the monthly subscription. I understand it being a little more, but the monthly subscription is twice the cost of the yearly. To me that’s a bit of an annoyance.
Again, content it great, app works well, love what I’m reading. Just wish the subscription options were a little closer together in terms of per-month cost.
Great work overall!
Aweful app just tries to steal your money 1/5
Be careful! It will steal a full year subscription silently out of you pocket after you try the app. Stay away. No way to get your money back.
Good luck trying to end the subscription 1/5
All the possible books from the trial needed an upgrade, except articles you could already find online.
Trying to end the trial to avoid paying the annual subscription had me going through their website, the app and iTunes. They are very efficient to start your free trial but make all they can so that you are unable to end it.
$80 Bucks! Super Glitchy 1/5
Ap freezes constantly. Thought I found a replacement for Audible. Nope. Skip this one folks. You’ll just be irritated by the continued freezes!
*Advise on directions to refund this or cancel any further “automatic yearly renewals”!
Great idea, terrible execution 1/5
By Technology is better
I’ve never wanted to use an app so badly. Unfortunately the app simply does not work. I started the trial and the subscription activated in my Apple ID. But the app never gave me access. Customer support was useless. Too bad...
Poor app, decent concept 2/5
App constantly cuts out while on Bluetooth. “Blinks” sometimes stop and restart on their own.
Unacceptable for an app with a subscription service 1/5
I still can’t believe this app hasn’t been optimized for the iPhone X. The whole purpose of having a subscription model is to keep the app update and support the developer, I personally canceled my subscription because I refuse to pay for wonky software. Will revisit once they decide to do something about the newest phone optimization. Apple gave developers months to update their apps and yet here we are. Can’t believe even free apps are optimized and not this.
Please fix the crash issue 2/5
This time it crashes when I click a tag.
I don’t recall any version of this app without major bugs. How hard is it to fix a few bugs in such a simple app?! We are paying a lot of money for this. Great service but the app is just very annoying.
Not intuitive 3/5
Overview of library is difficult to navigate.
Crashes when filtering by tag
Better than Instareads 5/5
By Good thing it's only 99 cents.
I stopped in the middle of what is my tenth book in the first day I started the trail to write this review. I tried Skimm and Instareads before as well, and having compared the same books on Instareads and Blinkist, I can tell you, Blinkist is MUCH better than Instareads.
It’s like this: Instareads gives you bullet points of information, which comes off very robotic. Blinkist, on the other hand, has a voice of its own, and it adds much of a human feel to the summaries. If you’re a summary enthusiast like myself, you probably know that usually consistent with Pareto’s Principle, 80% of the book can be condensed down to 20% of its content. Blinkist does an excellent job at it, and I am fully enjoying my trial week thus far.
I guess it helps that I deleted Instagram and this has now been my obsession instead — a much more edifying one, without a doubt. It is a steep price for the subscription, but I’ve “blinked” 10 books already in one day (I’m a very average pace reader, by the way), which probably would have amounted to more than the subscription fee. As my dad always says, “Money spent on books is never wasted.” I sincerely love Blinkist, and I really pray that others will recognize it too for more than being a pricey subscription.
Thank you Blinkist!
Worst experience 1/5
Don’t know who I’m more frustrated by, Blinkist “customer service” who refuses to take accountability and honor their promo code (despite me sending them a screenshot) OR their 30 day no questions money back guarantee (as of the date of this review I’m at eight days) or Apple’s ping pong game Of saying that I need to go directly to Blinkist. Not only did they automatically signed me up for their most expensive plan, but didn’t honor the promo code that I followed to hear about them in the first place. Now i’m stuck with a service I’m not interested in and don’t use, an unauthorized charge on my credit card for $79.99 and a handful of emails and wasted time going back and forth between representatives who refuse to step up and resolve this. I was offered a 50% off next year‘s renewal, but I won’t be using it.
Buyer Beware! Subscription Required. 1/5
You need a paid subscription to make this app worth taking up space on your device. Just get a library card. You'll be much cooler, and you'll save money! Since I see the developers are very much listening to these reviews (kudos for that!), I would suggest maybe taking away a few of those pesky green locks outside of my 7-day free trial (which experience has taught us consumers is double-speak for "Don't click this or you'll have as hard a time cancelling as you did your BMG Music subscription back in the 90s."). I think your UI is the bee's knees, and it would be a shame to see it all go to waste in this sea of apps we have found ourselves adrift in. Much love, peace, and success.
Subscribed for a month and none of the material unlocked. Already cancelled. Waste of money. Don’t even bother.
Thanks Ben!! Like this app. Rarely have time to read a hole book. This helps so much.
Can’t even try it without it starting an automatic sub 1/5
Why would they try to push this business model? Probably hoping people would forget to unsubscribe before it charges them for the year. Give a free trial that’s actual free and people won’t complain so much. They might even like your product.
No way to access the free daily 3/5
When you click on the free daily book, it just prompts you to upgrade. There is no way to access it.
The app is trying to charge me twice before I can even do anything 1/5
By FLASH FREEZE
This app has to much potential, I already paid the 12.99/mo subscription. Then went to select a book at it wants to charge an extra 6.67/mo just to select the book.
The app looks good but the user experience is terrible. App definitely needs work
Unmatched value! 5/5
I always wanted to acquire more knowledge and inspiration from non-fiction books written by great authors. First, it takes a lot of time to read a book. I have never been able to read and finish a book without missing out on the whole context.
I have read more than 10 books in 15-minute summaries since I started using Blinkist. Highly recommended for everyone who doesn’t have the attention span of reading a whole book!
Decent app, bad done subscriptions 1/5
Tried the trial and liked the app. It’s way too expensive for what it is. Trying to unsubscribe is really confusing and time consuming.
This isn’t a straightforward process.
This is the kind of run around that is not well documented and feels shady, even if it wasn’t intended to be.
Wow just after your money 1/5
What a waste of time. I was intrigued by the app ad and downloaded it. 99.9% of the app is only available if your willing to drop at least $50. This app is only after your money
Great idea with not so great app 3/5
I bought 1 month to try the app, the idea is great the Audible blinks are really good and I find my self listing a to them a lot, the cost very reasonable. The app though is really not good and doesn’t work very well on the move. The blinks keeps restarting and get offline message couple times for each blink, it’s just annoying, something needs to be done about that. Then you have small things like if I’m in the end of book and want to go to beginning there is no easy way to do that, you have to click the back button 10 times to go back. The curated list collections appears and disappears no way to add to read list you can do it with book but not curated lists. I don’t think I will renew for another month but will certainly be checking back to see if the offline issue is fixed.
It helps to grab the concept of a book to see it it grabs your interest 4/5
By GiGi Lolobriggetta
Love that it is all nonfiction because that is all I ever read. Thank you. I am a lifelong learner therefore always curious .. satisfies my curiosity
By Rev Gary
It really sounds like a great idea, but I might not have enough time on a two-day trial to decide. Also, the cost might be a bit steep for what’s available at this time.
Too profit oriented lol 1/5
Keep price invisible lol sorry not gonna subscribe. I would rather read something from kindle.
Exceptional app 5/5
Great app though I would like for it to have more free content
A brilliant app 5/5
I truly recommend Blinkist to anyone who loves to learn new things on the go.
Rather then watching a viral video or may I say a vloooog or something, you can read a book or two during your hour commute to work / college wherever.
Great, great app guys!
Kinda sad 2/5
I like your service and subscribed to the monthly subscription ready to learn and all of a sudden it keep stopping the playing. Resetting a blink at the beginning.. Wow this feels like a $12 loss and a subscription cancellation worthy
Paid account continually crashes and goes offline 2/5
I try to listen to my Blinks at home. It always either crashes or tells me I’m offline. I thought it was because of the location in the house relative to my router, but I experimented being literally right next to the router and it still claims I’m offline and interrupts the blinks. I’m disappointed and feel I wasted my money since I can’t access the content.
Great summaries 4/5
Enjoyed the 1 day trial version. Cool app but I didn't subscribe
Blinkist - not worth the expense - Beware review terms of free trial 1/5
I downloaded and used under the notion that I would be charged monthly after the free trial. Well that was totally false! I was charged for an entire year $86!
And Apple will not refund.
Low integrity marketing practices from a platform which has your blind trust daily.
App and content was ok. I enjoyed some content and thought other content was very basic summarizations of existing knowledge and or theory. Not a lot of substance and certainly not worth $86 per year. I am afraid it’s clear as to why they market the way the do.
I signed up for the 7 day free trial which did not give you the full access experience as it was only one title a day. However, it charged me on day 7 versus the promised day 8 for the yearly rate of $80. And I was never upgraded to full access! Fraudulent!
80 bucks for a while year isn't a bad deal at all. Every app has to make money somehow. I think it's worth it if you want to read a lot of books but don't have the time to. The blinks are great detailed summaries that give you the main points of the book and make you feel like you read it without actually reading the whole book.
Other payment options 2/5
I echo the sentiments of that previous rating about how the app is great but you can really only take advantage of the knowledge if you are willing to pay. For students like me it’s tough to cough up a one time payment of 70 dollars but a monthly fee of 6 bucks is OK. If you could offer an option where we could just pay per month that would be helpful and you might get more subscriptions that way.
Hoping you consider this,
Good idea that deserves support 5/5
This is an awesome app because you are exposed to a good summary of books and get a gist about the topics but also can decide if you want to read the entire book. I really like the idea for this app. I wish I could help support the writers with a paid subscription. I have the link of my goodreads account for people to see this app as a thank you to these creators. This is a great app for finding and sparking your interest. It's nice to be exposed to a lot of different topics and read things you normally wouldn't. As an example, I learned about the signs of autism which is useful and I found a great book on zen. You can tell the summarizers put their effort into this which is why I wish I could subscribe! Anyway, check out this app if you're interested in learning new things and want to see different books. Thank you Blinkist writers!! 🙂 📚🙃🙏
The narration on the majority of these are like they're explaining an amazing discovery about how the world works to 1st graders. Typically people already know about these things written in the books and they're mostly just good reminders and points we may not be consciously thinking about. It would be nice if the narrators didn't act like they were personally changing your life into some magical dream world.
Problem with searching 3/5
Nice work, BUT I have a problem with searching. When I type the exact title of book that it’s summary available at Blinkist, there us nothing appear!
As advertised! This is fantastic and for less than $7/month you get access to a library of condensed data and knowledge. Absolutely great!
App doesn't work in free trial mode 1/5
By Eve in Austin
Scammy af. The app simply doesn't work in free trial mode. I tried many times. This app seems like a great idea but if you can't use a free trial for an $80 annual service, how do you know if it works well enough to justify that money???
Subpar summaries 3/5
I have read a couple of the books that I have read blinks of. I have found that important concepts are missing in the blinks from the book. For instance, the book 7 habits of highly successful people completely skipped the circle of influence concept, a major premise of the book. Similarly rich dad poor dad did not mention the different ways parents of differing financial statuses raise and fiscally train their children, a central premise of the book.
I am disappointed and will not renew my membership despite enjoying the blinks. I know I am missing the central premises of the books summarized. Hopefully I notice a change in the next 12 months.
A feature I would enjoy but that does not influence my rating would be the option to expand an interesting concept. Sometimes I want to know more, and the summary is too brief.
Overall I think Blinkist is a great concept, and will probably improve over time, if it does, I will maintain my subscription! For now I have another 11 months to explore summaries, that to date, don’t quite hit the mark
What you will remember after reading a book 5/5
I purchased this app because of the advertisement on the Ben Shapiro show. His description "get the main points from a book in 15 minutes, basically after you read a book the most you remember is 15 minutes worth of info.". I love it and use it daily
It does not works sometimes 3/5
Hi there blinko team. I really like this app well done guys. But, sometimes books does not open so i delete the app and reinstall it to get a healthy app. What happens? And how to solve it?
This app is a liberal, leftist tool. 1/5
This app promoted a Black Lives Matter book, and we all know that BLM promotes violence. When I complained and asked for a refund, and I was just given a lecture and told to read a Barrack Obama book and they didn’t cancel my subscription
Love the content, please improve the app 3/5
By Chaoyu yang
Love the content and the concept, more than happy to pay for it. But the app UX is really bad now. Lots of UI are flaky and confusing, and it doesn’t work with the iOS control panel or my headphone to pause and start. Will unsubscribe this time until you fix the issue I mentioned above.
Convenient information 5/5
By Aso North
Will continue to use this service as long as it exists. Really hopeful this only becomes more popular allowing blinkist to grow and offer even more books.
CHANGE YOUR LIFE! 5/5
So fast. Much easier to get through your BEDSIDE TABLE READING! Build your brain!
Would like an expanded library for what I pay 4/5
Excellent summaries and the audio feature is great for commuters. Would like to see an expanded library and a few more contemporary titles.
By Elite detail
Great app, and I don’t understand why there’s people out there surprised that they have to pay for something. Have you ever operated business nothing is free. They have to pay to keep their business open. They have expenses they have to pay for example for the people that do the audio portion along with probably 100 other people or more. Besides you do get one free audio every day, which is perfect for me so for now the free version is great and if I ever decide to upgrade I’m OK with that too. Thank you for the great app!
Beat it into my head 5/5
This is just what I needed to stay fresh. Who has time to completely re-read or re-listen to an entire book? ...much less 100's of books?
Upgrading to premium leads to bugs galore 1/5
By Seth Combs
I loved using Blinkist basic, which is one free blink per day. I loved it so much that I bought a year subscription for unlimited blinks and highlighting capabilities.
DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE IF YOU WANT TO HIGHLIGHT ANYTHING.
This app freezes at least 70% of the time I try to highlight. Support got back to me but they weren't able to do anything except apologize.
