Brother iPrint&Scan app reviews

  • No longer works with MFC-9325 2/5

    By Vic765
Used to work with this model, but no longer.
  • So basic, no duplex default, can't duplex Cloudprint 1/5

    By Woods4000
I have two Brother printers, the MFC-9970CDW and the HL-L6200DW. I needed this app because the 9970 doesn't have AirPrint and then I like that I can print remotely using Google Cloud Print. However even though you can duplex a print job using Google Drive and you can duplex using the app locally, YOU CANNOT DUPLEX REMOTELY. I'm pretty sure this is a Brother problem and not a Google problem. You also cannot set duplex as the default. It isn't truly terrible, but since you don't need it with the 6200 locally since it has AirPrint and you can't use it remotely because I don't print hundred page document is one sided, it basically represents a total failure on their part to do the simplest upkeep on their app and that earns one star.
  • Useless 1/5

    By Ace0fheartz
Omg this doesn’t work at all on my phone or my wife’s iPad. Going out to buy a new printer.
  • Functional companion to my new printer 5/5

    By Garrett H.
Just picked up my first Brother printer off Amazon after many lackluster years as an HP customer. I’m pleasantly surprised with it so far. The app (which you really only need for advanced stuff like scanning since my model also uses Apple AirPrint, which doesn’t require this app at all) seems easy to use and intuitive. It integrates with the Mail and Outlook apps seamlessly (only complaint is that it’d be nice to send the scanned attachments as one multi-page PDF rather than multiple JPEGs). And it suggested a firmware update immediately upon install, connecting me to the printer’s online setting page without issue. All of this is way more than HP’s app(s) could muster. And I do mean multiple apps - for some reason, one version got so screwed up they took it off the App Store and created an entirely new one (which didn’t even support my printer, hence this new Brother). Definitely happy with my decision to switch so far.
  • Clunker 1/5

    By Duane Henderson
Does not work very well. Printer does not stay connected to the Network. The APP requires you to go thru Google to access application and sites to print content. You should be able to print from the content or site your in. Not sure if going thru the Brother APP is secure.
  • Missing options 3/5

    By Jklop43285
Easy to use! But missing options of double sided print and multiple pages per sheet. Close to being a great app for convenience
  • Does not show all photo folders 2/5

    By barndoor34
Ugh. For some reason, this app does not show all of the folders within the Photos app. It only shows certain folders, looks like the ones that are shared perhaps. My “all photos” folder has over 1000 photos, and that folder does not show up. So I can’t use this app to print photos. If that worked, I’d give Brother 5 stars for the app. Like the Google Drive integration. Simple yet verbal interface. Pretty cool that you can upgrade the firmware right from the app.
  • Oh Brother! 1/5

    By josephf934
As above review I have had the same problem and can’t use this to print from iPhone or iPad anymore
  • Needs iPhone X Support 4/5

    By Arcadian_Rebel
App works great! It’s too bad iPhone doesn’t offer native support for anything else besides their AirPrinter.
  • Needs better integration 2/5

    By joutwate76
When you attempt to save scanned files to iCloud it saves a text file with the contents ‘from brother iPrint&Scan’. Same happens with other ‘send to’ targets with the exception of saving to your photos. You can obviously work around this by first saving to photos and then moving it from there but it’s just inconvenient. There’s almost no point for using the print capability from the app as it’s better integrated from the os level. The app print option doesn’t support iCloud files from you phone either. It’s like this app is trapped in 2010 when you still needed a Mac to use your iPhone.
  • Software issues 2/5

    By Slickmastah
Hey I was able print and scan from my iPhone. But now I can only print and NOT scan. Can someone help me out here. Thanks !
  • Deep Sleep 2/5

    By RetFoosh
Maybe if I could get the printer out of deep sleep, the iPhone could find it!!! Oh wait, now the printer is out of deep sleep, and the iPhone still can’t find it! Brother is living in the 2000’s still with a Microsoft mentality where you have to manually configure things instead of having them just work.
  • Leaves iPad 3 users in the dark 1/5

    By frankz00
I'm sorry I'm not a rich hipster that can afford only three latest and greatest devices for every member of the family! ONE STAR!!!!
  • Many many bugs & glitches. 2/5

    By rymacguy
In the most optimistic, bare bones interpretation- it does what it says it can do. It does it so poorly though that you will probably rarely, if ever, use this app. To scan from this app you literally can only control color or b&w, no resolution, no can scan directly to a cloud service...if you go and manually save it and using iOS’s file system save options choose your cloud destination there. Also, it creates and saves in your scan destination a text file that says “From Brother iPrint&Scan” for EACH SCAN! Also from the app it just saves everything as .png format and with the name “image.” I’m mentioning all these because scanning from the device direct to cloud lets you pick the resolution (though the files scanned from app appear to be much higher resolution based on file size??) and names them with the time scanned, and gives some other good options. It’s like the people who did this app and the people who did the commands directly on the printer didn’t even talk to each other or attempt in any way to have similar features at both interfaces. Very frustrating.
  • Can’t connect 1/5

    By Wether one
Same as previous reviewer. For some reason lately it will not recognize my WiFi. I have to restart every time and even then sometimes it still will not print.
  • Quick and Easy 5/5

    By RedGBaby
This printer and app has been incredible. Installed the app, found the printer on the WiFi, and printed a document. Done! It is all I needed, well done thank you.
  • Very Disappointed 1/5

    By Kulwick
I am taking the printer back and uninstalling this app. It won’t work unless you agree to hand over the details of your life to Googul. I am doing my best to stop exchanging my life details for a collection of crappy Googul apps. I am sure Googul has a ton of info about me now, all the more reason not to give them any more. Come on Brother, you charge real money for the printer, do you need crappy Googul code to run it?
  • Prefect 4/5

    By Gulf State Software
I don’t need lot for print a doc from mobile. It have everything for print through wifi.
  • Works Wonderfully for me! 5/5

    By Kiko's Wife
It is easy to use, and works just fine.
  • Useless scanner app on iPad 1/5

    By jebrian
Only scans as individual pages - ALL with the same file name which cannot be edited and which you CANNOT save as the all have the same name. The “Keep Both” option does nothing. Useless.
  • messes up the files that you scan in 1/5

    By Dinah Ann
When you scan in a file it writes “from brother iprint&scan” on the pdf file. I do not want this when I print out the file and I can not figure out how to erase this.
  • Stopped working 3/5

    By danaisme
My Iphone 6 Plus stopped giving me a print option. I used to choose print and then choose my brother wifi printer. Now, I have to print directly from the app, which means I can’t easily print anything anymore. Probably Apple, not this app?
  • Update buggy 2/5

    By Avemaria
With the latest upgrade Nov. 9, 2017 the app doesn’t pull all my iPad pics up for printing. When I click on a pic I can find, it just sits trying to load it. All my settings allow this app to use my pics but they aren’t being pulled over. Very frustrating.
  • Lame. No machine status as features show. Doesn’t offer Print in browsers. Seems backwards. 1/5

    By MikeyP1024
Have a Brother network color laser printer. The AppStore features show a Machine Status button. Nothing there in the app... Very awkward to print from a browser. The intuitive way would be to select options in the browser. Then there would be a Brother print button. Not there. Lame...If try to use the iOS Print get no Air printers. So have to copy the URL. Then goto the Brother app click Print then paste URL... May not work since URL doesn’t have session data necessarily if trying to print like a confirmation page in a website that are logged into. So worthless and difficult to use just deleted the app.
  • Amazing Printer and App 5/5

    By Nasir Manzoor
I quite frequently use my Brother Laser printer and the app. The best part I like is how I can remotely print documents on my Wi-Fi using this app on my brother printer great job team.
  • No longer accesses my photos on my iPad 1/5

    By Lg111860
The app no longer accesses my photos on my iPad. Downloaded the up date, checked settings, with no luck.
  • I installed on a network and it works 4/5

    By JoeWireless
I wanted to do this for years and I decided to try to set it up and to my amazement it worked flawlessly. I’d like to see more quality out of pictures if at all possible.
  • Why do you hate me? 1/5

    By Kich73
This machine has made the last year of my life so difficult. I always assumed it was me but after happening across the reviews when updating, I feel angry. If I could have back the time and yes even the money, Twice switching internet providers to try to fix an issue that customer support made me feel was on the ISP’s end, well I’d have a couple hundred dollars in my pocket. If I could have back the ink and paper wasted each time I have re-entered my WiFi settings, I would need no paper or ink for the next 6 months easily.
  • Ugh no good with IPhone 1/5

    By Appsuxair
Never recognized my phone with app. Terrible
  • Brother printer 1/5

    By Loyallu
About a year and many tears ago i purchased this printer. I installed the app and controlled it from my phone mainly ! But in the last four months the printer doesn't recognize any commands from the app, or it cant find the printer and i have to manually re enter my wi fi password every single print job which is really time consuming, then it shoots out blank pages until only one sheet of paper is left in the printer that it choses to use to finally start printing on and it completely jams and by the time i un jam it, the machine has once again lost connection with my wifi and i have to manually re enter my password ! And usually by this time i am now late for work AND i don't have the copies i need for work making it necessary for me to stop and pay to print them and now I'm even later for work then ever ! Totally frustrating ! Since I'm missing work hours its taking me longer to save up to buy another expensive printer, definitely NOT a Brother !
  • Cloud Documents Issues 2/5

    By Ilikesush
It never has the most updated version of my Google Documents that I want to print, and I don't know what else I can do. It's very difficult having to go to another app to print instead of connecting with the print feature on my device.
  • No FAX capability! 2/5

    By Tom McElvy
The Brother app works great fir printing and scanning, but there does not seem to be any ability to send FAXes from iOS devices. Thus is a huge oversight. Many people are trying to make their offices mobile, doing away with desktops. Thus feature is still very relevant despite the proliferation of email. Because if this lack of support, I can only give 2 stars. However, if it is added, I can see it going to 5-stars pretty fast!
  • You can do better 1/5

    By Oh brother.
Save yourself hours of frustration and buy a Bluetooth printer that actually works. I have to shut down the printer and restart it every time I want to print from my phone, and it only works about 25% of the time after that. I've spent more time trying to connect to this printer than it would take to drive across town to the print shop.
  • No legal sized scanning! 1/5

    By Kason Wallace
A few days ago the app updated and you can no longer scan legal sized documents from the app! What an inconvenience for small business owners!
  • Ugh 1/5

    By soxfan781
I can’t wait til my printer breaks so I can buy from a company that actually listens to their customers. I’ve asked several times for more paper size options and other options in general only for each new update to limit me even more. I find it super cool that I can’t print a 4x6 photo with my iPhone 7plus, but could with my now deceased iPad. This app needs a major overhaul before I consider getting another brother.
  • OK with iOS 11.03 4/5

    By pcopes
I use the app with my iPhone 5S and the print and scan functions work with my all-in-one DCP-L2540DW. The scan function is limited without many user controls, however.
  • Now useless app with IOS 11! 1/5

    By kmrsmr
Does not work with MFC 9970CDW!
  • What happened??! 1/5

    By Rob0923
When i press the share button for a picture or document i want to print, the app doesn't show up anymore as an option. It use to. Also when i access my photos from the app it only shows the most recent 9 photos when i have over a 1000. Please fix this app.
  • Doesn't print half the time. 1/5

    By Geneva_93
Prints when it feels like it.
  • iOS 11 this app doesn’t work 1/5

    By Uno676
This use to work great but now after iOS 11 it no longer works.
  • Good success with app 4/5

    By peterson000
I have had good success so far using the app to print from my iPhone. One suggestion for the developers, the status progress line while you’re printing is very thin and difficult to see. If it could be a bit wider, that would be very helpful.
  • Great App 5/5

    By xDestroyer354
Does what it’s supposed to do :)
  • Slower than a sleepy sloth 1/5

    By S.J.O.S.
Printing with this app is like waiting for the sloths at the DMV in Zootopia. Prints one page every five minutes. Fail.
  • Thank you 5/5

    By 124gtro
Rarely write reviews but I had to give Brother props for making my old MFC-7840W compatible with my iPhone!!!! Installed on my phone, exported my doc to the app then clicked on print. That simple. Mission accomplished. Done Son.
  • Godsend 5/5

    By JHhhh1134
Long story, but my laptop is dead and I urgently needed to print, sign, scan and email a document. I happened to have an old Brother printer with wireless capability. I plugged it in directly to my router, and this app found it immediately and I was quickly able to figure out how to save the document to the cloud and print it through the app, sign it, scan it and email it all through the app. The app completely controls the printer. So cool.
  • Works intermittently 1/5

    By Lwjpaw
Nicely built printer but so far as printing wirelessly it has problems. Impressed with the printer but not the developer who programmed the wireless part and / or this app.
  • Scan Errors 1/5

    By n_chamberlin
I have to scan documents 5-7 times before the app will work. First it tells me "disk full", then it tells me "scan error e003", but I can't find any information about how to clear the disk or what that error code means. Eventually the scan will come through, but never on the first try. I've only had the machine for 1 week I can't imagine that the memory is full already.
  • Fantastic 5/5

    By kdurban
So much easier than whipping out the computer. I use this probably once a month with my home brother. Consistent results every time when printing and scanning. Simple and convenient- Great app.
  • Needs OneDrive for Business support 2/5

    By Skydiver Bob 1701 1980
The OneDrive app has supported both personal and business accounts in a single app for almost a year now. Why doesn't this app?
  • Will you ever connect? 1/5

    By googley4444444
Have uninstalled and reinstalled this app at least 6 times in two days with the app "occasionally" connecting with the printer. So disappointed.
