I am a new user of Evernote and I'm finding a persistent bug. With my Basic plan, I should be able to view my Evernote notes, etc. on 2 devices. However, Evernote will not allow me to view anything on my laptop unless I upgrade to a paid version. There was only one time when it allowed me to get into the account on my laptop. Otherwise, zilch. I used the customer support chat feature, and the rep at first attempted to also upsell me, indicating that the Basic account doesn't allow for use on 2 devices. I quoted to her the Evernote Basic plan info and she retracted what she'd told me about the plan. She also said she'd never heard of the problem. Very disappointed in the app and its support.
Please let us lock entire notebooks!! 3/5
I use evernote as my journal, & it is a major pain to lock every. single. note. I would much rather lock an entire notebook with a pin or password. I know i’m not the only use begging for this change, so if you could implement this as soon as possible that would be wonderful!
Great in theory, but almost nothing works the way it should 1/5
At this point, can't even get the app to open, and have had numerous other problems before. Guess I'll just stick to notes
Works Well 4/5
Evernote has been around pretty much since the beginning of smartphones so it’s no wonder it works so well. The app makes it easy to jot down notes, even take pictures instead (going further with auto detecting the edge of the document so you don’t have to worry about getting more than what you want in the picture), and sync them to all of your devices!
Annoying bug 2/5
By Doodle Jump reviewer
This is a great app - but there is one annoying bug I've noticed since the last update. Occasionally, notes would be duplicated after editing them without any input from me. I can remove the duplicate by closing the app in the app switcher, but the previous version of Evernote didn't have this problem. Please fix it, otherwise it's an excellent app! I'm on an iPhone X running iOS 11.2.5 .
Not what it used to be 1/5
I used Evernote extensively in college and started using it again a few days ago. I’m disappointed to see that I am no longer able to sync across my devices without upgrading. Additionally, the search function is not specific enough to quickly search through large notes which makes Evernote cumbersome to use. I’ll just use google docs instead.
Painfully slow on iPhone 6 3/5
By Northeast PR
I’m a fan of Evernote in general but the app does not work well on an iPhone 6. It takes several seconds to open which can be trouble when I need to jot down a quick note.
A Necessary Evil; Poor Performance App 2/5
No other app syncs notes cross platform better. However, it’s become so bloated with feature creep (chat & sharing are really poorly done) that basic things like typing without a delay and creating new blank notes without the app freezing are unavoidable. STOP ADDING NEW FEATURES and focus on making the app faster and more responsive. I’m so close to switching to Google Docs (which works very fast) but I’m already locked into this app with 1000s of Notes. Evernote developers: PLEASE MAKE YOUR APP WORK BETTER!
Used to be great... 1/5
Now it’s not. Glitches, hangs, crashes, wish I hadn’t invested so much time/data into this app
Lose Data Much? 1/5
Beware the automatic updates! Evernote has a tendency to wipe your data when updating unless you’re paying for their premium service. And don’t expect help - it’s almost as difficult to access that as it is to make a Genius Bar reservation. I get that everyone is pushing their in-app sales to make a profit, but when your job is to basically be a notepad, be a notepad, and when you release an update, don’t ef with their data. Is that too much to ask?!
Doesn’t sync 1/5
By OG LLC
It just wouldn’t sync any documents to my cell app for over 2 months now. Waste of phone memory. Desktop version freezes few times a day. Poorly designed.
Trouble with Evernote on my iPad Pro 1/5
By Mrs Snaps
I have recipes on Evernote and when I try to access them on my iPad Pro it takes me to a screen with devices at the top. I cannot access my files. How do I fix
No Tab/Indent Button 4/5
It’s really hard to take notes on my iPad app with no tab or indent button (that I know of) for bulleted or numbered notes I’m taking in class!
Beware! Doesn't save first time 2/5
When I create a new note or update a new note it does not save under some unclear condition. My changes are not reflected in existing note when I return to the note or the note can't be found if saved.
Two features to add 4/5
Premium user. Evernote is my go to for notes, to do lists, and planning - Great tool! I appreciate the improvements over the years.
Please add two features to the Evernote App IOS (iPad and iPhone versions) as is in Evernote for Windows App on my PC to get my 5 Star review.
1. Merge | add ability for all the same reasons to use merge as on the PC - when traveling it would make it easy to compile travel notes and receipts.
2. Reminders | add the ability to set multiple reminders inside a note. For example, my To Do list has multiple items that come due at different times - I would like the option to not have to create a separate note for each item in order to set a reminder. ... or the option to set up multiple reminders.
iPad Pro could use more features and needs tweaking 2/5
Three stars because the keyboard is adjusted correctly for the iPad Pro screen.
When making bulleted lists and you indent a bullet point, then decide you want that un-indent it, you have no quick function to do so and have to pain-stakingly select the formatting tab, un-indent, then switch back to the keyboard. This is not effective for note-taking.
It lacks a good user interface and many features for iPad Pro.
Not what the hype is all about 2/5
This app IS NOT the best note taking app out there not by a long shot. These guys need to look at Notability. That app needs to be available on cross platform!!!
You cannot preview the premium features so you have to buy to find out. PDF annotation falls on its face, worthless. I want the document OPEN in the note, not click icon in your note to open. Again, EverNote, look at Notability. You do that and make it cross platform I’ll be back.
You can’t organize by folders or file, uses a sloppy notebook system similar to OneNote. Documents should be open and live in the note section and able to be written on via stylus or pen right then and there.
I cannot believe out of the billion apps out there only Notability does what’s needed. It’s just not cross platform. Need a app with those capabilities that works on web, iOS and android.
Bait and switched 1/5
By Integrity Review
Huge price increases. Good luck turning off all the ads. Takes magic to close the crammed notifications- the "x" is so tiny and overlaps with the scroll bar. Depressing to open
Reminders are driving me crazy! 3/5
There appears to be no method of changing a reminder date without scrolling endlessly through each day!!! Really?? And when you do, the year isn’t displayed. You’d better not hope to get a reminder 2 years from now! Why can’t they provide a calendar picker or just an entry field like other apps do!
And good luck sending a suggestion to them. I went to support, but the only “support” is predefined descriptions or the option of reporting “bugs.” Forget about talking to a real person.
Otherwise, I love the app! Just don’t expect anything to change from users’ input.
Please PLEASE allow multiple people to edit a note at the same time. Please. Other than that, I’ve been fairly pleased with the overall functionality.
Locked out from synchronized 1/5
By Annabelle M
Been using this app for years. Got a new phone and logged in only to be forced to banish all my other apps from accessing the documents. The sync is gone. The ability to access my documents across all my platforms is gone. The app is useless to me now. Thanks for nothing.
Easy Info! 5/5
I love how quickly you can access information, plus there are so many different options on how you can store it. The only thing I don’t like is that you can’t have repeating reminders, it’s set for one time and then it stops. That’s fine though, will continue using for sure.
Sometimes there will be more notes than it should be and when I tried to delete the seemingly duplicated notes I deleted the actual notes too? Annoying bug
Editing notes 2/5
After saving a note I try to edit it on the iPad but can’t, the key board comes up and covers half the note so I can’t even see what I’m typing, erasing, editing etc... Please fix this
iPhone X switch gestures make evernote stuck for 5-10s 1/5
By Lin hong en
How to reproduce:
1. Open a document, type something
2. Use switch gesture to change to another app, e.g. Browser
3. Use switch gesture to go back to evernote and it will be stuck for 5-10s
Please fix it :( the experience of evernote + iPhone X switch gestures was amazing before this bug came out
Absolutely f*cking ret*arded 1/5
Theres been some glitch in here forever where u literally lose all the sh*t u wrote down when u make a new note and it over writes the old WHICH ALSO HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NEW ONE and creates 2 useless notes completely destroying all the work you did in any previous one.
Best, The... 5/5
I've been using Evernote for years, nothing else I've tried can come close.
Holding my notes Hostage 1/5
By Took forever to figure out
I have two notes on here that are more then my plan and won’t sync with other devices. Great I don’t need them on other devices. But all your app does is tell me upgrade to another plan or edit the note. The only edit I can do is rename or delete the note.
How about you just let use the app and lead that one app on this device. As of right now I can not use the app at all unless I pay you for more space to sync or delete my notes. Let me use the app again.
Ridiculous decision on presentation mode 1/5
I was a fan and a premium member
I am canceling my subscription because of the sudden and unexplained decision to remove one of the most attractive features - presentation mode. Why, why no explanation and why no response to the many angry users?
Was the best app in store but they broke it again 2/5
2017 was an awful ride with Evernote, they did updates that were continually broken and nearly impossible to use....rendering the app ignored by many and looking for options ...then a late 2017 update 7/8 months late brought it back to life and usable (yeeee) only to have last weeks 2018 January update put us back in he junk. If u like waiting 2 or 3 minutes once u open an app before it becomes responsive and usable ...than this is the app for you...;( someone at EN needs to be fired and testing prior to new updates is a must ...what happened to this company?
Uploads multiple copies of same doc 3/5
The app sometimes uploads duplicates. Not only annoying but uses up limited megabytes.
Can’t Have Notes Exclusively Offline 2/5
If I can’t have my notes ONLY offline, there is NO point to this app for me. Also it is not able to OFFLINE, via CONNECTED BY CORD to a computer or laptop, sync notes... why must everyone favor online? What if I want a little privacy, my goodness.
If it could do these things, it would be a really nice app. But because it can’t, for me it is pointless.
One of the Worst Big App Companies Today 1/5
Here are just a few of the steadily degrading user experiences that Evernote has been unable to fix over almost a decade of work:
—Syncing issues. Get ready to lose work in all new ways. Here how. Start editing a note on your iPad. Walk over to your Mac, make a few changes. Go back to your iPad, type something and exit the note. Now all your Mac changes will get overwritten and erased by the iPad. Additionally, whereas other companies like GitHub or any of dozens of other systems show you the differences - EverNote got rid of that feature and instead files the differences away in a folder. You get to read the ENTIRE note to find the changes yourself. Ever tried to find the differences between two multipage ToDo lists? Good luck. This means you get to lose doing tasks in all new ways because of Evernote. Evernote also has bugs so that you won’t always be alerted if there is a conflict. (The red explanation mark rarely appears notifying you of a change.) Do you have a team and want to share notes? Good luck. You can easily overwrite each other’s work. We now have dozens and dozens of these “conflicting note” files. Also, there is no simultaneous team editing. If one person starts typing, everyone else gets to watch a rainbow wheel that locks them out. Google Docs solved this years ago. Evernote’s engineers still can’t figure it out - and yet all they need to do is create a new type of note that discards their terrible Evernote XML standard *just* like other engineering teams had to create new standards to make it work.
The sad part is - Google hasn’t added images and mixed page ToDos to Google Keep - so at least for the short time Evernote survives and you are stuck with it.
That said, it is clear that EverNote is on borrowed time as the moment Keep or one of their competitors adds images and ToDos - what’s really to keep us using EverNote? Skitch? What are all those engineers in EverNote even doing? It hasn’t changed a bit in years.
Below is from my previous review with cover all the other features Evernote still hasn’t been able to duplicate from OneNote.
One Note has these features that would be great in EverNote:
--Dynamic image resizing *in the app* by dragging the corner of the image. In that way, you always have the original image at the resolution saved.
--When you take notes in "real life" - you write words and images anywhere on the page. This allows for dynamic, almost magazine-like layouts. I miss that from OneNote.
--Attachments are all Zipped before being inserted. This means to edit files - you unzip them. OneNote just stores the file - so it is one-click to open it. This makes workflows much more seamless in OneNote when using multiple files.
--Why did EverNote create its own font color change panel? Strangely, EverNote has defied typical convention for font color changes - adding additional clicks and mouse movement. Whereas in most applications you choose a color and then you can use it by one-clicking the font color change icon - EverNote makes it two clicks and forces mouse movement. The first click is to open their custom color panel. The panel then opens somewhere on the page unattached to the color change item - then you must click on that panel to change the color. This workflow becomes cumbersome with lots of color changes in a document. Plus, the panel, which is unresizable, takes up unneeded space on the screen. This is another area where EverNote can learn from better practices in other applications.
Version 8 grew on me 5/5
I successfully avoiding upgrading to Evernote version 8 for 10 months. Then, in November I accidentally upgraded. I did not like it. It took a lot of work to get back to version 7. Somehow, on December 30, 2017 automatic updates got turned on and I did not force it back to version 7.
Now that I've been using version 8 for a month, I am starting to like it. Some things take more clicks to accomplish. In exchanged for that increased complexity, it is closer to the desktop environment, and I'm beginning to appreciate the enhancements.
I am a Premium user on an iPad Pro, (yes the high subscription price is irksome), have been using Evernote for about 7 years, and have over 6000 notes in Evernote. I've changed note taking programs many times over the years, and for now will stick with Evernote.
Oh if only I’d known... 1/5
I have Evernote on my phone, iPad and computer. That’s the idea, right? Today I am away from home for a while and I only have my phone. I desperately need to access a note on Evernote but after spending an hour trying, I give up. Within that hour I had to change my password (why??? No idea), tried to “sign on through Google, which informed me that I didn’t have the app on my phone ( again: what???), and after every action sent me back to the same log- in screen that never, ever let me access the app and its content. Now all I can hope is that I’ll be able to access my info on my computer when I’m back, transfer it to another app and delete Evernote forever — pun intended.
Long time premium user - evernote is getting worse!!! 2/5
Recent updates have left this buggy, will not sync, and support is non responsive.
This recent update left me in a very bad spot in a meeting unable to open a critical notes. I have now moved this app to completely unreliable status.
Use at your own risk and be warned. Evernote has de- evolved into a glitzy, unstable pile of poorly implemented code.
Planned obsolescence 1/5
With Apple’s planned obsolescence for iPhones, this app is slower than a Cupertino traffic jam. Terrible. 1 star is too generous.
Where did the typeface go? 4/5
I love Evernote and will keep on using it for as long as it’s around. I’m a premium user too. Everything that’s important to me is on there. With the new update I noticed a switch of typeface. Blech! I wish the app would stick with Gotham. It’s so much better looking! It’s (weirdly) one of the big reasons I love this app so much.
I want to edit my drawings!!!! 2/5
Good for note taking, but there used to be a version where you could go back and edit your sketches but they changed it and I don’t like it. Your sketches just turn into pictures, boooo!
I sure would love to love this program, particularly because I paid for a year use. But it crashes alllllll the time on my iPad when trying to edit PDFs. I'm using it to stay organized for grad school, and it's killing me. Might seek out other options......
Don’t know when the new update will be but the app keeps closing and crashing every time I want to add to my notes.
Search still not working correctly on mobile 3/5
(Evernote v8.8.1 on iOS 11.2.2)
Saved searches still not working correctly. Specifically, it is searching across all notebooks instead of just the specified notebook in the saved search. This issue is only present on mobile; saved searches are working correctly in
both Windows/Apple desktop apps.
Table support finally comes! 4/5
After years’ waiting, it finally support inserting table and code block. For code block, you need to long press ‘ key to show the pop up for the back tick ` key. For the table, for table, you can create a table with some size but can not add/del row/col. Let’s keep waiting for full support of table.
Bad Apple Review. 2/5
I have used all the big app names for my chemistry course, including iOS’ notes, Bear, OneNote, notability, fiddling with their features, hoping one would gap all devices and as today, Evernote has officially become the worst app of my list, yes I’m talking about the biggest elephant in the room.
Not only am I paying for premium, but now I’m not allowed to edit my sketches? (-1 🌬⭐️) I did have some concerns about the strange freezing, lost notes and the other notes that became corrupt (-2 🌬⭐️) and lost forever (-3 🌬⭐️) but for premium...now I can pay more for less software, the heck with you, big green elephant in the room.
I did jump ship on time and OneNote just can’t do what I need, leaving me with Apple’s notes and Bear as my future backup. I just don’t know where the big green elephant in the room is hiding... where the software went. I just don’t have time for this.
It’s over my big green elephant and true, it’s better to have loved them not loved at all.
What Happened to Evernote? 2/5
I dutifully downloaded the recent Evernote upgrade on my iPhone. It turned into a dark icon of its former self and won’t open now. What a mess.
How about to add saving clipboards as a force touch? 3/5
Option to increase font size 4/5
Please gives us an option to increase font size. Other than that, the app is great. At least have it in sync with the system wide font settings so it would change according to everything else.
Every update this app gets slower...cant rely in that
Missing important feature 3/5
Hard to believe, but Evernote does not have one of the most basic word processing features: Find & Replace. I use that a lot in other apps and now have to copy an Evernote note and paste it elsewhere to do Find & Replace, then copy & paste it back into Evernote. Bizarre.
