To be clear- this is a review of the app, not Expensify as a whole. In general, love Expensify! The app, however, seems to try to “help” in some ways that are pretty annoying. I’m the admin for approving reports, and the only way to approve them from my phone is to use the review process- something I find tedious and annoying, so I instead wait and do it from my computer.
I get that they think that’s a good way to do things, but ultimately that should be my decision. Being forced to use it this way keeps me from being able to take my job as mobile as I’d like.
Would appreciate some more “manual” views and options.

This is the first app I ever rated. It's that bad. It is almost impossible to get support. You can't downgrade or delete your account from the app. It took me the entire week of my free trial I didn't know I was on to figure out I was about to get billed and cancel. Also the scan thing is also super slow.

I was using this and loved it . I paid for the app and then the next thing I know, it was saying my free trial ended... if I paid for the app, why are they wanting more money from me !!

Slow, Clunky, and Inadequate 1/5
I've been using this app for a while and it's just not getting any easier. People said give it a chance there's a learning curve. You know what? I've been using it for a while and it's just not user-friendly. can't delete old reports that never were submitted so they're still open. Can't add new reports without having to reboot my phone. The automatic classification will not figure out the category the expense is a sign to even though that's what it supposed to do. The developers need to review all of this App. How about if you focus on making it actually work. Skip all the fancy features and just make it work.

Because no email was ever sent for me to verify my account. Can't find a way to ask for another to be sent. Can't find any help. So, wasted time and money.

The website is very easy to use, but the app lacks basic, important features. There’s no easy way to search for specific expenses using keywords or apply a time range to the list of expenses.

You can login via Google through the website but you can't use Google auth within the app. There really is no reason that Google auth isn't supported.
Excellent tool for independent consultant 4/5
I have tried many ways of managing expenses across projects and clients expensify works brilliantly. Mostly I like the ease of emailing and scanning receipts with auto the management of items and reporting is so easy. I also have set up some custom templates for reporting which works well too. I'm giving it 4 stars because Sometimes scanning just loses things and the automatic allocation to reports can mean expenses seem lost. Finally the there is limited credit card import to expense match, or at least many misses. Having said all that I've not found a better product and I tried many.
GPS mike tracking inconsistent 2/5
When I first downloaded Expensify and started using it. Mike tracking worked perfectly. After the more recent updates it will stop tracking the miles and you have no idea how many miles you have actually driven. Please fix as this is the main reason I utilize this app.

This app is solid. Helps me stay up to date while on my trip by uploading everything quickly into my expensify account without having to deal with my expenses at a later time. Only issue is the SmartScan takes longer than me inputting. Wish I could just input and not wait for the smartscan

I’m a paying customer, not just using the free version. The app continues to ask me to have access to my contacts! Why? You do not need access for expense reports! Remove the annoying screen asking for permission that pops up every time I open the app. I want to open and record and expense! Is that to much to ask???
I finally allow Expensify to access to my contacts to remove the annoying message, and then immediately removed it. Now when I try record an expense, it just spins and and states uploading. So dumb!

Have used Expensify in two organizations. It's great. Works extremely well in a small business environment. Use it for both expense reporting and time tracking.

They've added more features so it's getting more complicated to get to the basic place you want to go. Originally I got the app to track my expenses and I liked it. Now I have to click through a few screens to get a place I can actually record my expenses. Looking for a new app
A real time saver.... Literally! 5/5
I'm very happy to have discovered this app. For years I had relied solely on pen, paper, & staples to keep track of my work expenses, mileage, and hours. There were more than a few occasions where I'd forget to carry a pen .... lose a receipt.... Etc. I don't have to worry about any of those annoyances using this app. Everything is well organized and the interface is very user friendly. Id highly recommend getting this app to any record keeping professional.
Doesn't seem to remember rules, smart scanning is never correct, too much unnecessary navigation.
Update. 10 tickets later no resolution.

I don't like the latest version. It's so complicated now to submit an expense. Now you have to take a picture first, enter the data, and then go to the expense again to complete entering the information. Before, you were able to do it all at once. Please go back!

App creates policies for expenses without user direction, then closes reports and you cont modify them on mobile device.

Ok but GPS feature constantly malfunctions 2/5
I use this app to report my work expenses. I have no issues other than the fact that the GPS is constantly crashing! I use this feature to track my mileage and unfortunately it's not reliable. It happens at least once a week. When it happens, it basically freezes and will not unfreeze for days, sometimes even even after I log out and back in to the app. It's annoying to say the least.

I downloaded this app last night after searching for a way to track my mileage and receipts for a independent contractor job I'm working. As someone who's pretty good at technology, this app is so hard to understand. The "Concierge" service makes this app completely confusing and if I hadn't read a review about how someone inadvertently created a "policy," I would be getting charged in a few weeks also because I clicked one wrong box. I'll stick this out for a while, but this app really needs a better help section and the Concierge service needs to be more up front about charging the user after a free trial.

I have used this app for years. It's great. No more lost receipts. I can't run my business without it.
This app is NOT free like it suggests. They don't tell you you have a free trial and they don't tell you when it ends so you'll be racking up expenses on this app. Won't let you delete your account till you pay for the app!!!

This stupid thing sends out emails at midnight while you are sleeping. It is an app I am forced to use for work. Since it is a work phone and I am on call, midnight emails to tell me you are doing your job is ridiculous.

Not the best app. Took me forever to figure out how the reports work. There needs to be a way you can edit/modify reports that are "closed" --as I needed to reuse them again. Also -- once done w a receipt or report -- you should have the option to delete it.

I thought there was a free mode but I was charged $5. So I deleted all of my policies and was only using it to track my business expenses for my own use. Then I get charged $9. I have deleted my account and am disputing with the credit card company. I did not intentionally create a policy. If fact, I deleted it but the app will automatically create one for you so they can charge you. User beware.

The revision several weeks ago turned a great manual entry process (not smartscan. it's always been weak) into a multi-step pain. Enter receipt, type, comment and report, then it forces you to save and go relocate to add merchant and amount? Who's great idea was this workflow???

I had terrible time recording my expenses and managing reports, itinerary details and all stuff...but Expensify made all at one place and that receipt smart scanner relieved me of lot of manual typing and is evident how much effort the team at Expensify has put to save time and provide efficiency.

Downgrading my prior review due to horrible customer service 1/5
This is a decent app, don't get me wrong. It's got one key feature missing, which is the lack of an ability to mark a report as reimbursed.
I said that in my last review, and the dev responded. Asked me to email them and they'd show me how to mark a report reimbursed. I did. They told me just to click the checkbox next to the report (the checkbox doesn't exist).
When I screenshotted my app and asked them to point out the checkbox, they disappeared. It's been weeks.

This could not be more unhelpful. The app shut down after a certain amount of time then no one could help me restore it. I practically begged customer service to call me and explain how to restore my account. I offered to pay for the services and still I only get vague emails explaining how to navigate the app. For the love of God get a sufficient customer service
Free Trial Expired? 1/5
I've been using this app for a long time and have loved it. Something changed after a recent update and all my settings are messed up, I'm setup as a "team" member instead of individual iOS user, and they started and ended a free trial without my knowledge. This makes no sense since I'm a long time user not a new trial user. Support has not resolved the issue. In fact they keep ignoring the most important questions I have. They keep telling me how to adjust settings instead of properly restoring my account. So I'm led to believe they are ending service for accounts like mine but won't be direct about it. Not cool. Many other options out there for expense tracking.
