Updated review 5/5
Loved how I got a response on the app saying how we can slow down the music! I appreciate the help!
useless without premium 2/5
this app is practically useless without a subscription. you can't do most of the lessons, making getting this app pretty much pointless. maybe if the premium feature wasn't "pay to be able to do anything" and instead was just for songs, not lessons, it would be fine.
Way to expensive 1/5
The premium version which gives you access to your favorite songs to play is $13 a month.
I expected maybe a $5 onetime payment.
Best app I learned how to play keyboard 5/5

This app taught me how to play piano in 6 months
Great app for starting back with the piano! 5/5
Good but... 3/5
By the teal dragon
When i first got the app i was skepticle abouthow well the app would work using my phone mic as input. It actually worked really well and its good but the price for premium is a bit much i think. $20 for 1 month not even netflix charges that.
Perfect for a beginner. Very intuitive.
Thank you 5/5
The only app I’ve actually learned from!
Lacks content without paying tons 2/5
There's no way to only buy one song at a time. Only a subscription model, which is incredibly inconvenient unless you're literally learning two new songs a month. I'm sure the education is great for beginners but for someone like me that's been playing for years and just wants to visually learn new songs without sheet music this is kinda a waste. If they added a way to just buy a single song for like $5 I'd move this up to 4 stars and if they added more intermediate and expert songs I'd give it 5.
Flowkey is Key 5/5
I love this app. I love that it offers the fundamentals from reading sheet music, to practicing scales and learning new songs. I love the neat features and I love how it truly helps with becoming a better pianist. If you’re not using this. You are missing and out and wasting your resources.
Really enjoying Flowkey 5/5
I am an adult beginner with piano. Always wished that I had learned piano earlier in life, and while out shopping for Christmas presents this year, decided to buy myself one. I bought a keyboard and downloaded the Flowkey app for my iPad, along with a 3-month subscription. I figured that would be enough time to figure out if I liked it or not. (When you download the app, there are some lessons that you can try out for free before you buy a subscription—gives you a feel for the program.) I had a little trouble when I tried to use the iPad microphone to recognize the notes—just didn’t work well and I became very frustrated. So, I contacted Flowkey support to see if that could be adjusted. They were very responsive and helpful. They suggested that I set up a MIDI connection, and now note recognition is working perfectly. Since I am doing this entirely on my own, I like how I can hear what a piece should actually sound like. I also like that I can see someone’s hands actually playing the piece so that I can check to make sure I’m using the correct fingers. I like the progression of the lessons—so far, it seems to be very thorough. And Flowkey stops and waits for me if I hit a wrong key—can see right away where the problem is before I more on. I’m working through the beginning course and I also am trying to learn one of the many available songs. Another feature that I really like is the ability to cut the speed to 50% or 75% for songs. And the repeat feature is helpful, too. So, at this point, I am VERY pleased with this subscription. If you’re thinking about it, you should give it a try!
Got me into it but now I gotta pay 1/5

I actually bought a piano for this app and with no warning, I have to pay.. good stuff.. pathetic
Way better than other apps 5/5
Actually teaches you without payment or shortcuts!
Song Requests 3/5
By Eileen the Nguyener
This app is so amazing and I really love it. However, when you request a song, it takes forever for your requested songs to be upload. I requested a couple of songs on June 11th and then a few more on July 20th. That would mean that I’ve been waiting for about 6 months. I understand that the songs that I requested might not be popularly requested ,hence why it’s takes a while, but I wished that someone could like be assigned to producing the most requested songs and then have another person assigned to produce the less requested songs (If they aren’t already doing this). Other than that, this app is fine.
Serves a purpose, there are work arounds for lack of sheet music 4/5
I took lessons for years when I was a kid, never very good, but I still like to dabble on my own. The app helps me A LOT for this first couple hours learning a piece. It's much faster than me working on my own. However, after a certain point the app is no longer helpful. That's when i start needing the sheet music to work at my own speed and drill problem areas. The app just isn't good for that and I can't memorize pieces like this app is apparently expecting you to. Overall it serves a purpose up to a point but then you really need the sheet music. some songs arranged by their "partners" do have sheet music available on the partner's website. for the other songs I've resorted to taking screenshots of measures then piecing them together on my computer. not ideal but it works. the classical music obviously has sheet music you can find on other sources. for that reason i upgraded it to four stars. minus a star for expense.
I wish all the songs were free
Happy and excited! 5/5
I’ve never played piano before, but have always wanted to. My son received a keyboard as a gift, and really has no interest in learning how to play. When I found flowkey, I gave it a try. I am now playing Christmas songs! I can’t wait to surprise my family on Christmas Day with carols:) Hopefully, this will inspire my son to learn...then I’ll get flowkey for him! Thanks flowkey!!
Love it! 5/5
I wish, as I see others do, that I could somehow get the sheet music of these arrangements. I love the app and the fact that one song will sometimes have different arrangements for different levels of skill. It works well for my whole family with that particular feature.
5 stars 5/5
From a private music instructor 5/5
By Blah day blah
This is a great tool for music instructors and anybody studying piano. It’s more friendly than sheet music on its own. If used with an instructor, it could be a face paced track to practical musicianship.
Good concept 4/5
Things that are good:
1. All levels from beginner to advanced.
2. Variety of song genres.
3. Smooth overall
4. Nice interface
Things that need work:
1. Unable to print sheet music (would help for making notes, analyzing the piece’s structure, help with memorizing song, etc). These things are hard to do when you can only see a few bars at a time.
2. Being able to adjust speed in increments other than just 50, 75 and 100%.
3. As mentioned in other reviews, I also get the impression there are fewer than “1,000+” songs but maybe that’s a form of selection bias on my part because a majority of the songs don’t appeal to me.
Best educational app on the App Store 5/5
This is by far the best educational app I’ve ever used and the first time I’ve ever been compelled to write a review. The lessons are clear and effective. 10/10
Great app for begginers 5/5
By giddy jazs
You have to get this piano app
Great app 4/5
Wonderful app I just wish it had more chord learning
Not What I Wanted 1/5
I came here because I wanted to learn the songs that I love, and not courses to learn how to play. I've had prior experience as I have been playing for the last 5 years. I just wanted to learn songs but the songs I like aren't free. I am only 13 years old and I can't pay for the songs, even if I ask my parents, so please, make the songs free, so I can learn them.
Ok but laggy 3/5
Ok but laggy, not sure if it is the mic or the app, Time to time I have to repeat the key several time for it to recognize it and move on
It ok I guess. It just annoys me SO much that you need to buy premium courses! I was told that it was all free! But it is a great app for beginners...
Just Excellent! 5/5
This App is an excellent tool for all level pianist. It is a great tool to learn the piano. Love the songs library and the different option to control de music score especially the loop option.
Thx for such a great App!
Great product 5/5
Awesome app! If you work full time and don’t have time to take piano classes this is the app for you! With just a few courses you’ll be playing like a pro!
By Roquan Willis
Enjoying very much. Just finished my first course
could be better 3/5
i like this app because the way it teach to play piano but i give it a 3 stars because there isn’t a lot of famous songs. I have paid less for the Onlinepianist app and it has way more songs like Adele, Alan Walker, 80s songs, classical,...
Hope you will add more request songs to bring it to a 5 Stars!!
Great app 4/5
So I am beginner/intermediate. Started 2 years ago with my daughter who takes lessons from a live instructor. I teach myself. I use this app, Alfred's piano books, and a YouTube channel from some nice gentleman who breaks down all Alfred's songs. I payed for flowkey entire app for lifetime. Have been using it 5 months now. I use it to help me with fingering. I can read music but only quite slowly and this app helps when choosing how to finger certain chords, etc. I do recommend the app but suggest you definitely check out the free songs first so you can see pros/cons. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 - there is no sheet music. I have contacted flowkey and they tell me that they are working on making the sheet music available but as of now (Nov 2017), there is no sheet music available. I get around that by taking photos and using photoshop to produce my own sheet music from the app. I do this b/c there is no exact match easily available online. Also, sometimes I just listen to the music and watch them play. The artists on here are excellent.
Not certain yet. 3/5
I’m sorry but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. From what I can see so far, I will need to perhaps read up or look up how to play for a very beginner who doesn’t own even a keyboard at this time. I’ve always wanted to play piano but never had the opportunity to take lessons. I simply love how piano music sounds and feels. Yes, with piano I seem to feel the music in my body, internally. Like you feel when you are in Love so deeply that you can feel that love from head to toe.
Not what I expected. 1/5
I am an experienced pianist, so cannot comment on the teaching tools, but I am disappointed with the sheet music, as in there is none. My complaints:
1. You must play from the line that only shows a few bars at a time.
2. You cannot slow the speed of the flow - at least not that I can figure out. I’m a good sight reader, but It would be nice to be able to do that when first learning a new song.
3. You only see the key you are in at the start of the flow. I would like be able to glance at a key signature from time to time, especially in songs where it changes throughout.
4. I would like the option of downloading the sheet music so that I done have to deal with the flow line only. I would be fine with a small fee to download a digital file.
5. There seems to be a glitch in connecting to Bluetooth. My Roland has a blue tooth connection - this is the first time I’ve had trouble connecting.
6. It does not seem there are 1000+ songs. Where are they hiding?
What I like — the partners arrangements and being able to hear and see their scores - albeit a few bars at a time. I will need to go to them to purchase the digital files and hopefully they are available from them.
If you want to try it - pay for one month only to see if this is something for you. I paid for 3 months and unless I see some other benefits, that will be all I am in for.
To pricey 1/5
I want piano lessons, but I wanted to get some experience first.I started playing and then it said, get premium access, so I looked to see how much it was.$20 a month! I would like if you guys made the price more affordable.I was really disappointed because I've tried so many apps and they all have outrageous prices! Also can you do a long free trial?Like a month or so?Flowkey is a good app,but the price is crazy. Thanks for understanding.
Best way to play 5/5
By Rudi Lueg
It’s game changer! So, easy to learn a song. Their support is also superior. Love it!
Already learning so much 5/5
Great app easy to use highly recommended
I want a refund 1/5
I didn’t expect the premium version of this app for 12 months to be 120$ this is an out rage!!!
This helps a lot 5/5
By Klamath Girl
I always wanted to play an instrument. My mom told me the piano was one of the easiest instruments. So I was looking for a good piano learning app (instead of looking at synthesia) I downloaded this, along with one other and I stuck with this app because it helps me learn piano better. This is a wonderful app.
Limited free access 4/5
I really liked the beginning of this app much better than the other piano apps but it gives so little free access and as far as I can find, there is no free trial. I don’t want to pay $20 for a monthly subscription if I’m going to get into two hands and not like the way that they teach it. I’m really bummed by that.
Incredibly false-advertised. 4/5
By Blake Harris
Their subscription page says you will have access to 1000+ songs. In reality, there are actually 216. Note that the selection is decent for such a small slice of the music world, but there is no excuse for such Lies. I wanted to like this app, but many of the songs are only portions of said songs, which differ in quality. If you are going to spend 20$ a month, or more outrageously, 300$ for a lifetime subscription, you ought to get a real tutor. Unless the price drops to adjust to the song quantity and quality, you will do better elsewhere.
Edit: raised stars because developer responses are great forms of customer service. I will look into the matter and contact your team. This has been greatly appreciated. Will be in contact soon.
Works well, but can’t pick up the notes from the keyboard at all. Totally random
Song Request 5/5
I absolutely love this app, but I just have one request. Can you guys add the rest of the Undertale songs... Please?
Can print the actual sheet music!:( 1/5
I always wanted to play this one song from this app. I finally decided to spend 19 dollars for a subscription just to get the sheet music for this one piece. I was very exited, then found out that it only TEACHES you how to play it and doesn’t give you the actual music to site read and only gives you one section at a time. To my knowledge there’s no way to actually obtain the sheet music to sight read in your own. I think this was not a smart choice, for i only want one song which is an arrangement and I can’t get to that piece anywhere else. Please make an option where you can download and print a song. I spent 19 dollars of a 25 dollar itunes gift card I just got from a friend. now almost all of it is wasted. If you are looking for sheet music from this app, please don’t waste all of that money and time.
Nice App 5/5
At first I couldn’t get the app to work because I had the wrong type of cord. Make SURE you’re using a midi cord if you are plugging directly into you keyboard or piano.
I’m using an older keyboard from Yamaha, but the note detection software just was that great. I’ve tried adjusting the tuning on my keyboard with another app, but it’s just not working for me. (I think my keyboard is too old to work with newer software, I can’t get it to connect when I try to hardwire it either)
It’s so frustrating trying to learn how to play when you have to hit keys to and three times for the app to keep flowing.
Somehow I want to see if it’ll work with another keyboard or piano if I take my iPad somewhere else. I’ll update my review after that.
EDIT: Works wonderfully now with my iPad. I have the correct midi cord and all is well.
Fun App. I will probably renew for a longer subscription next time. Nice work!
