"Just put in your 8-digit subscriber number" they said... "It's easy and seamless" they said.
Well this guy will continue his printed magazine subscription. The digital version is unaccessible and a sad reflection of the printed version.
Helpful hint. 5/5
Too all of you who claim they cannot leave the current issue they are reading, just hold your finger at the top of the screen. Figured this out within the first 30 seconds of reading an issue :/
Great app 5/5
To everyone complaining about not being able to exit the app, all you need to do is hold your finger on the screen for a second and a menu pops up. Anyway the app works great, the interactive elements are awesome and the layout is great. Highly recommended.
So glad to have this app!! 5/5
I've spent the past year only occasionally reading this mag on my computer because it wasn't the easiest to navigate and I rarely sit down at a computer outside of work. This app makes reading each issue so much easier!
Navigating is very simple, and for those idiots who can't figure out how to get out of an issue, try reading the "how to: the basics" page right after the table of contents at the beginning. It explains everything right there. It also has a link at the bottom that takes you to a nice little FAQ, which informed me that unfortunately, the only back issues available on the iPhone app are from November 2016 on. Which makes sense if that's when they started formatting the issues for the iPhone. Luckily, they have back issues on the iPad going back to July 2012 so I just need to go download this on my iPad to read any others I missed.
I have to say, I LOVE how they've formatted the issues for the iPhone. It's so nice being able to read an entire article on one screen just by scrolling up and down. Having to flip pages back and forth on the computer version to read the whole article and check out all the images and captions could get tiresome.
I also had zero trouble logging in and having my subscription automatically applied. I was immediately able to download the issue that just came out without apple trying to charge me again. And the back issues (from November and December) were immediately available as well.
Overall this is an excellent app that I'm really excited to have going forward. I'm much more likely to actually read every issue now that it's not such a pain.
Broken app 1/5
Tried to download issues and just get blue spinning circle for infinity. Deleted and reinstalled app, no help.
App would be 5, but 1/5
Log in with my GameStop account name and password, currently paid up and it's telling me I need to buy current issues. Sigh, guess I'll just go back to reading it on my laptop as either GameStop or apple are being greedy(maybe both, I'm not paying more for something I'm already subscribed to)
Broken App 1/5
App is broken. Tried to download and read new issues and the App shuts down.
HORRIBLE APP 1/5
I'm stuck inside an issue, pretty stupid.
Not good 1/5
By Praise the Lord!!!
I can't even get out of the current magazine to go back and read others. I'm sure I'm just missing a button somewhere but it's not a good format. It will sure take me to safari to purchase something right away as soon as I hit an add or a coupon though.
Worst experience 1/5
Game informer makes me want to kill myself
Love this app 5/5
Ok so guess what I just figured out people's u can download other issues and figure out what months u wanna download and use while on the app I know it's hard to believe but for everyone who has downloaded the app and is using it look no further when you are upset that it doesn't go home to see more issues or have a home screen while on the issue you are on just push and hold your finger on the screen (works with iOS) sorry it's what I own and then it gives you an more options to select I know I couldn't believe it myself but now everyone knows
Easy to use 4/5
By Larry Jenkins
Those of you having issues navigating the app, simply press your finger on the screen to bring up the menu.
Surprisingly bad 1/5
So bad/broken for so long that it's amazing Apple quality control allows it to stay in the store. GS needs to start over.
Missed the last 4 or 5 issues because it refuses to work on my iPad.
Epic fail. I didn't want paper but am not left with much choice.

Do yourself a favor and opt for the mail-in subscription. This app simply doesn't work. You'll end up having to view on your computer... like a caveman.
A Long Awaited Addition 4/5
Gameinformer is a member of games journalism's oldest form- the magazine. It's been around for longer than my entire life, and for as long as I can remember, it's been the one consistent thing I've read. They've finally released a mobile version to look at your latest issues, but a few missing features hold it back from being my main source of their material.
The UI is incredibly easy to use. At the main menu, subscribers just have to sign into GI's website to access their digital magazine, and then from there you just download the magazines that you want to read, then read them. It's that simple. However, a major oversight is the inability to look at much older magazines, as I'm allowed to by using Chrome on my phone, using the PC browser format from the website instead.
That isn't a better option for mobile, though. This new Gameinformer app is the most intuitive way to read their content on your phone or tablet. The swiping of pages can be a little finicky, and the tutorial mission doesn't do a great job of explaining how to leave an issue to come back to later. But apart from these annoyances, it's a joy to read the content on the go. I feel that the visual appeal and aesthetic is partially lost in this version, where entire articles just have you scroll down instead of swipe to another virtual page. It hinders the flow, and makes it much less visually striking than the print or other digital versions.
The biggest missing feature of the app is the extended GI canon is sorely absent. Much like Bungie's decision with Destiny's grimoire lore, all of the additional videos, podcasts, and articles are only found on the GI website outside of the app itself. It would be terrific to use this app as my only application for GI on mobile devices. Instead, because of its partial usefulness, I'm caught between two versions that are only strong in some areas.
But if you're only interested in the excellent writing in the magazines, then this app is great. It's incredibly intuitive to read, and setup is easier than any other subscription on the App Store. For the rest of us, you'll be left with a feeling of an incomplete GI experience.
Gameinformer Silver: 8.5/10
Concept: Bring the current magazines of GI to a mobile level, but leave out the extras
Graphics: The UI is simple, but don't expect much for color. It's mostly gray
Sound: The atmosphere is minimal, as there is a clear absence of sound effects and music
Playability: Apart from some finicky page turns and an unhelpful tutorial of the UI, the controls are easy to use and intuitive
Entertainment: If you enjoy reading GI magazines on the go, this is the best format. If you're looking to read older issues and extend GI Online content, look elsewhere
Continuous crashes 1/5
App keeps crashing every time I try to read a magazine. It doesn't work at all.
Cant get out of issue 2/5
Similar to other reviewer, I seem to be stuck in the issue. I can swipe through the pages ok, but No intuitive way to get out and back to library. Also, do not like being forced to use in landscape mode. On a good note, content and interactive/multimedia components good.
One problem 5/5
It's a great app but for some reason I can't back out of the issue. Even after closing the app I'm still stuck reading the same issue.
Overall Good but Some Glitches 4/5
By Achilles & Briseis
Personally, I enjoy reading Gameinformer and in the new digital age I am glad to see mobile compatibility mesh with informative gaming journalism. I like the functionality and ease of the app and finally being able to easily sift through an issue on my phone is nice. It is easy to find certain parts of the mag, although I typically read through the whole thing. That being said, there are a few bugs associated with it. I find that the swipe-left-to-turn-page feature is a little touchy and I frequently turn back to the previous page. Also it may be intended, but despite my current digital subscription I seem to be unable to access the current issue without having to buy it mobiley, which is not the business. With some minor improvements, I would call this an effective app for reading a great magazine.
iPhone is where it should of started in the beginning 5/5
iPad always seemed a constant zoom in/out never optimized website rushed affair. This finally feels at home. Plus I don't have to lug around the iPad just to read an issue. Good job thus far. iPad version needed serious help.
Has potential, but... 2/5
I have two issues with this app. The first and foremost is that I don't have access to all the previous issues that I paid for with my subscription. That's almost a year's worth of content that I have still not seen. I can access it on my computer, but sitting at my computer is not where I want to read this magazine. And number 2, is it really necessary to have the Game Informer banner constantly toggle at the top of screen every time I scroll down the page? I know I'm reading game informer. I don't need a reminder every 5 seconds. It's very annoying and distracting while trying to read an article. Otherwise it's what I would expect from a magazine app.
This app is trash. I logged in and it says i have no issues. Have had a subscription since 2012. Ummm yes i do have issues
iPhone version needs work. 3/5
By Rico the Engineer
Im glad there is finally an iPhone version. But the version has lots of bugs. The top menu keeps popping in and out while reading article. The change page gesture is WAY to sensitive. I sometime change page when I'm trying to scroll up or down. It would be nice to have video go widescreen when expanded. Also a go back to top button would be nice. Thanks!!!!

I was looking fwd to this app (hence the DL) not only bc I pay for a yearly subscription, but also bc I appreciate the convenience of digital publications on my mobile device. Unfortunately, after installing the GI app and signing in with my subscription credentials, when I select "Download" on the current November 2016 issue, all that happens is an infinite loading loop with my DL at 0% then after a few seconds, the app closes. I've tried all of the basic troubleshooting- power cycled iPhone, deleted and freshly installed GI app, searched for updates, etc. to no avail.
*I will update my review after I receive a functional app
Almost good 1/5
This app would be great if it didn't force you to turn your iPad on its side to use it. That's a huge flaw with this app and the deciding factor to not pay for a subscription sad to say.
Terrible app 1/5
I just renewed my pro membership today and it came with 12 issues of game informer. I thought why not save the paper and get the digital version? Big mistake! My first complaint is I can't view the October issue. The customer service rep said I had to wait till November 1 to get the issue. So basically I have no access til then. Then I said to myself why don't I just buy the October issue? I spent $5 and got the October issue. It took a long time to download and the app crashed 3 times in the process. I finally was able to view the issue, and not all the pages are accessible. There's also no way to navigate back to the front of the issue. This is a terrible sluggish app that GameStop/game informer should be ashamed of. I'm a casual gamer and I would be very upset if I was a hardcore one. Please fix this app! We've paid the money for it!!! Unacceptable
Terrible App! 1/5
I was forced to move from a print subscription to the digital format when I renewed my power up rewards membership and I must say that I am seriously upset and frustrated. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading Game Informer but I will never use this app to do so.This app is one of the most problematic apps I have ever had the displeasure of using. Issue downloads are incredibly slow which is disappointing but I can get over that. The biggest problem I have is that far too often, the app simply crashes when I click on an issue to read. The yearly subscription to Game Informer is one of the main reasons I remain a power up rewards member, but if this is what I am forced to deal with, well you can count me out. Simply unacceptable performance!
Crap app 1/5
This is ridiculous. How do you get out of an issue?????/?/
Why are they not downloading??????/??/?/?/
Game uninformed 1/5
I purchased an iPad Pro and installed my favorite apps. Game informer recognizes my annual subscription so I should be getting current issues to download, right? Wrong! Every issue has a $4.99 price. I am not happy! I pay my dues yet GI still wants me to pay for each issues?
Unhappy Manager 1/5
By Mark Punn
If you are going to force your management to only get the digital version of the magazine the least the company can do is have an app that works properly. For crying out loud we are the leader in sales in all things digital and the least we can do is have an app so that our guests and fans can read about the industry and what too look forward too. We are all fans of gaming and some are fans of a company that deals exclusively in gaming, but it gets disheartening when we have issues go on for this long and don't address or fix it. Stop crashing when I open up a new magazine and for the love of God if I want to download an issue the night before I go on a flight then let it download in the background. My iPad needs to go to sleep at some point, not to mention me as well.
All I can say is the app is junk and I will never go back to digital even if the app is fixed because the app doesn't work
I opened an issue and now it won't let me go back to the menu to change issues. Even after restarting app
Don't not waste your time one this app 1/5
I repeat do not waste your time on this app once you download and read the issue u just downloaded there's no way to close it out to read the next magazine. No stars for me I only gave it one star cause it mad me.
By New iPhone 5 user!!!!!!!!
This isn't impressive because it's great. I wish. This app is incredibly awful. Magazines download at about 1% per minute! For some reason, background downloads do not work, which is unfathomable in 2016. So, great job GI.
Lost issues that I paid for! 1/5
Went back to paper issues because of this!
Terrible app 1/5
Switched from magazine to a digital issue thinking it would be easy access and less waste. Wrong on that as this app is a huge waste of time it force closes every time I try to do anything in and even though there are multiple poor reviews nothing has been corrected way to drop the ball GI
No background downloading? 1/5
I have to keep the app open and the screen awake for anything to download. Waste of battery and time especially when you get to 90% and the progress resets when you don't get to the iPad in time to keep the screen awake! At least continue where the download left off if it can't download in the background!
No background downloading; unforgivably slow downloads 1/5
I converted my print subscription to this app - what a mistake. Regardless of where I connect to the Internet (RTP NC, San Francisco CA, Boston, MA) the issues download at about 1% per minute. I don't know what size the documents are so I can't comment on actual throughput but trust me when I say it's painful. Also, the app stops downloading altogether if it isn't active in the foreground, so you'll need to stare blankly at your device for over an hour waiting for your next issue. I should have stuck with USPS.
I can't download the purchased issue 1/5
I purchased the latest May issue. Every time i push "download" however, nothing happens!
I paid $5 for literally nothing!
Can't get new issues once I start reading can't go back to main menu don't waste ur time
Terrible. Force closes. When it doesn't close, issues take forever to download. Disappointed that I switched to a digital subscription.
App Crashes 1/5
By Crazy Excalibur
App crashes just opening latest issue. Worthless.
For lack of a better word: PATHETIC 1/5
I bought the subscription in Aug 2015. Tried to register and the Power up I'd and it was not recognized. I then called and got your recorded lame excuse of a wait time of 30 mins. Everyone knows you aren't that busy and your running a scam. I waited20 mins and hung up. Please add me to the Class Action Lawsuit!!
Cancel my subscription immediately, I demand a COMPLETE refund.
App Breaks Your Subscription 1/5
My subscription is still active but I can't access the latest issue as it tries to charge me 4.99 for it.
Even when I do try to click through the 4.99 it tells me I have an active subscription already.
What the hell?!
App Not Working 1/5
This app won't let me get out of the issue I am currently in. I have tried everything I can think of and nothing is working.
Don't waste your time 1/5
Had my membership number,e mail and still it will not let me log in. Wait time for customer service was 30 minutes will not waste my time paying for a reward card with game stop
GameStop at it again 1/5
I initially had printed subscriptions coming to my home but decided to go digital when I received a new iPad Air. With my first digital subscription I was able to see and have access to download digital issues that I had when I was a print only subscriber. Things went south when I needed to replace my iPad. When I brought everything back up, I looked back to issues that once had a download option and if I didn't download them before, they now were labeled 4.99 for individual purchase. Restoring purchases did nothing. I refuse to pay again for issues I already paid for. Their app needs to make better use of Apple's cloud model, period.
Much improved 5/5
The app has improved a lot recently. I'm now able to download issues while the app is running in the background, and is doing a better job remembering where I left off without having to set a bookmark.
The magazine is great and I really enjoy the digital format. Being able to see more screenshots than the printed format allows, having the trailer or video interview embedded into the article is great. I won't go back to the print issues.
