Awesome app 5/5
It’s all I ever do anymore
Decent app. Too expensive. 3/5
For a very casual user the monthly cost is too high. One time purchase would be ok.
Hard sell 1/5
Why isn’t “add to list” a basic feature? They’re really jerking your chain with the app.
Amazingly fun 5/5
I love this app and have been geocaching with my dad all of my life thankyou so much for making this!!!
What’s so bad about it? 5/5
This app is perfect and I see no reason why it’s so bad. I’ve enjoyed this and what’s with all the negative reviews? I love this app!
Official geocaching app 3/5
I’m an experienced geocacher. This app is very poorly documented. A step down from the previous paid app, which this app replaced.
No saving offline without premium 2/5
This app is useless to me as I have no way to save things for offline use without buying the premium version.
Ripoff City 1/5
Monthly subscription!! For what??
Way too expensive imho.
Give me a call when you go back to $10 one time fee.
Sad to see that what was once a fun family friendly activity has turned into a profit game for some greedy people. I’m considering just removing my caches that I created. Those of us who helped build these caches are now excluded from the game unless we pay the ransom to have this app. It’s a waste of money and very overpriced.
Good, but lacks reporting options. 4/5
I love Geocaching, this app and Geocaching.com. However, this app lacks the ability to edit your logs or report specific problems with caches (i.e. needs maintenance, or needs archiving, etc). Additionally, the app takes a really long time to update information from the website. Other than that, it’s great to have!
Fix this bug! 1/5
Crashes about 65% of the time when I try and add a new cache to a bookmark list. Been doing so for like the last 2 weeks.
Please clear from my history 5/5
Please clear from my history
The old app was better. 3/5
This update is like a step backwards. The navigation screen is not very useful. How come I can't log trackables while submitting a log? How come I can't edit submitted logs? Leave it to GC to screw this up.
Love this app and easy to use
Not showing all caches 3/5
When I go to the geocaching.com site it shows more caches then the app.
Wow this took a crap fast 1/5
Used to work flawlessly. Now it crashes every time I try to drop a trackable ... no longer can I dip TBs in a log for a cache either. You have just taken all the fun out of grabbing and dropping TBS 👎🏻
App keeps getting better. As does the game! 5/5
By That guy MA
Great to get outdoors and find a cache! Love it
Works Great 5/5
I love the new app! It took a while to get used to it, but it just keeps getting better, and the overhaul they did to modernize the old code is now paying off.
My favorite newer feature is showing my DNF’s when I’m in an area—So I can avenge them!
Keep up the good work—the app is top notch.
Anyone know how to cancel this?
Just a money grab 1/5
This app used to be great. I loved geocaching with my husband and friends. Now everything in this app is locked behind a paywall. I’ll see a cache I want to try, but if the difficulty is over two, it’s invisible. If the creator marked it as premium only, it’s invisible. I can’t log caches, can’t find things, and can’t see anything without a premium membership. And I’m not willing to pay out the nose for something that is supposed to be a fun, free, community-based activity. It’s ridiculous. Don’t waste your time downloading this app. It’s just a desperate attempt for the creators to make a buck on something that shouldn’t cost money in the first place.
Functionally, this is a good app, however I’m rather disappointed that to make this app useful at all it requires you to upgrade to a premium geocaching.com membership. All of the geocaching apps seem to be this way on the iOS platform. I’ve been a geocaching member since 2004, and have really enjoyed the free and open nature of the sport and I’ve noticed over the years increasing pressure from GC to try to get people to pay for the premium memberships (e.g., premium member only geocaches) and this just seems like more of the same. Geocaching.com feels like it’s becoming more corporate and concerned about cash flow than maintaining a global, free, and accessible-to-everyone hobby that can be satisfied with their other, already large, cash streams. I’ll just switch back to the completely free android app that doesn’t make you upgrade to see all geocaches or go back to the way I started, with a good old gpsr. Thanks but no thanks.
Another update with no topo/terrain maps 2/5
Not all geocachers cache in the city. For those of us who like to get out of the city, topo and/or terrain maps are a necessity. How am I supposed to know if the geocache is on this side of the ridge or not? How far up the mountain is it? Please please please add topo and/or terrain maps to the next update, so I can use this app the way I used to use the old one.
Get outside 5/5
By tlc and foxey lady
Caching is great. It gets us out of the house. Almost 60 and we like taking grandkids out. whether they are 4 or 18 or in between, Geocaching’s combines outdoors and electronics gaming. Getting kids outside and away from their devices is harder than ever. But to geocache you need your device and the hides are outside, and a side benefit is the kids need an old fogey to drive them around. it is the best of all worlds.
Update: Crashes and the subscription model is a bad idea! Make it free for those who already paid $10. Still feel ripped off.
Simply easy and fun 5/5
This app makes my love for geocaching so simple. I can find caches right where I am, or scout them for trips. Tracker is effective and logging is a cinch!
Gotta pay for any geocaching on hiking trails.
I’ve was geocaching for 2 years then took a 1 year break. When I returned, I saw that it now costs money (30$) for the whole geocaching experience. If you think about it, the geocaching company, groundspeak, has NO OPERATING COSTS besides maintaining their website. They already have ads and sell merchandise so why so expensive?!?!?! I understand a search for profit but will not support a company that is in it PURELY for money. I’ll check back again next year, I hope things change.
Lot’s of fun 5/5
My whole family loves to find geocaches!
Way overpriced 2/5
Ok, geocaching is fun, and geocaching web & app facilitate the activity well. However, $30 per year is outrageous for what it does. In contrast, for $10 less per year, I subscribe to Gaia GPS, one of the world’s top pieces of navigational software, which I utilize extensively both on the job and recreating with complete landnav confidence. Used by search & rescue teams and the like, Gaia utilizes superb map overlays, route creation, integrated waypoint management, etc with pinpoint accuracy. Geocaching, for more $, links to Google Maps and provides fair locatonal services, at best? Face it guys, $30 a year to manage an app with an average UI is laughable... My weather app interfaces with G maps just as well, also does more, and was FREE
The new update 5/5
By Cold P
My app will not open and I pay for a premium membership what is going on I’m paying for something that I’m not getting
Waste of Money 1/5
With this app, you will see on a map, the cache icons of all listed caches near your location, but unless you are a premium member of Geocaching.com, you can only access minor stuff, like park and grab. You can see the grayed out icons of the better ones, but not access them. The detailed description on the App store says as much, but in a round about way that is easy to miss. It's normal for free apps to restrict full access to the better features unless you pay, but this app charges a lot of money for only bare minimum access. I can't say for sure if this restriction was part of the deal when I paid $10 for the app several years ago, but if it was, I don't remember it. This week I used the app for the first time in quite awhile, and the restriction quickly became apparent. I believe they have purposely taken away a privilege that I paid for.
Stop bugging me for ratings 1/5
One star for nagging.
Bought the app a year ago, then they changed it to a subscription 1/5
I refuse to subscribe to your app now because it is too expensive. You're hurting the geocaching community with your greed.
How do I do this? 3/5
So this is an amazing app I love it but I just don’t know how to create a geocache. I tried it online but it’s all glitchy and doesn’t work right I would rate it 5 stars but there’s no where to make a geocache.
We love geocaching!!! The places we’ve been to. The things we’ve seen. The bond it’s brought to my son and I. All because of geocaching. Thank-you. Now we need to learn how to hide a cache.
Not Happy 1/5
I understand having something like premium, but to access anything above 1.5 seriously. I had tho old app and had no problems, I was extremely happy to hear about a new app, but then I figured out I had to buy premium to access features a had no problems accessing on the old app I was extremely unhappy. And then y’all made it impossible to use the old app. I AM EXTREMELY UNHAPPY.
Don’t get this. 1/5
I down loaded this app because it was free and figured it would be a good way to get into caching but one I realized it was a subscription based app I went back to read reviews. I found that it was previously an app which you had to buy and developer had change it to a subscription based app and not grandfathered all the people who had bought the original.
TLTR: Developer is a sleeve bag don’t get this.
I saw the souvenirs, but there’s no description or pictures to enlarge when clicking on each souvenir. Please fix it ASAP.
Won’t let me use premium account I paid for 1/5
By Doctor Dirt
This app continues to not lap me utilize my premium account that I paid for on any app.
Took a great app and ruined it 1/5
After paying for the original app and being very satisfied with it, the developer decided to get greedy and screw over its clients by “retiring” the old app and forcing you to pay for the new one on a subscription basis. You’ve not only lost a geocacher, but a customer as well.
Basic (Free) App is Very Limited 2/5
I downloaded this to participate in a specific series. I found that I couldn't complete it without signing up to be a Premium member. Even if you have the Geocache ID, you can't search for it and have it show with the free app. Very disappointed and will not continue after this month.
Bring back the Apple Watch App! 4/5
Seriously the compass on the Apple Watch was amazing. Please bring it back.
Waste of $6. 1/5
After using the App for a few years on an account that is almost 15 years old, I paid a 1 month subscription to access some premium sites in an area of difficult terrain. The App did not provide access to premium content. When I tried to sign out and sign back in, my login name was no longer recognized.
Great app 5/5
By Mama fluffy
Took a while to get used to the new format. Really like being able to send answers and log at the same time.
Used to be great 1/5
This used to be a great app. Then the developers started charging people to see anything but the basic cache. I haven’t geocached since then and it’s been quite a while. I miss it, but I’m not going to pay to see regular caches. It was fine when we just couldn’t see the premium caches that were considered different from the regular ones, but the fun has left the game. :(
Paid the $10 got taken for a ride 2/5
By Pepper Black
Thanks for letting me know that I paid for nothing. What a ripoff
Great app, but $9.99 / month is absolutely ridiculous. It’s a huge rip-off and the free version only lets you see the easiest and most boring geocaches out there.
Awful Update 2/5
The new update annoys me because in the activity logs, it is much less organized than before
I love geocaching & the app is great for the most part but a few things should be better I feel... one thing for the trip we took I wish to be able to sort by like points in the filter like on the sight.
Best app ever 5/5
We love geocaching this app makes logging caches and trackables so easy
