PLEASE UPDATE OMG 1/5
Worst casting app I've ever used. Yes, looks nice, but the functionality is horrendous. You can't pause or rewind without having to disconnect and reconnect your cast. Just come on HBO freaking update it!!!!
This update didn't fix any issues 1/5
It glitches all the time, it constantly buffers, the picture freezes, and the casting is a is still a joke--will not work reliably with my ChromeCast, and won't work on my smart tv.
Horrible service and support. Total waste of money.
Streaming is the worst - like '98 AOL. 1/5
I expect better from the "premium" channel and entertainment channel. HBO you're a joke, and I am canceling my services after a month.
Watchlist isn't working 3/5
Can't add things to watchlist. Watchlist is empty.
Please add multiple profiles 1/5
Netflix lets you have multiple profiles to keep everyone's watchlist separate. Hulu just added this feature. 1/21/17. I'll change to 5 star then. Please please add to your app!!!!! This helps keep the household organized.
Pummels me with crappy featured political documentaries 1/5
I'm here to be entertained, not be dragged into your opinion. Also, save my Comcast credentials. Apps aren't convenient if you have to log in 80% of the time.
Love. Love. Love!!! 5/5
Unable to stream to chromecast 1/5
This app makes it near impossible to steam shows. This is incredibly frustrating and has ruined my experience. Please fix this asap.
This app is crap 1/5
I had this subscription/app before, but then cancelled when I really didn't want to watch anything on it anymore. I redownloaded it and resubscribed and whenever I went to use it, the app would crash, when it didn't do that then it constantly buffered every 2 seconds until it crashed again, or it just wouldn't connect to my smart tv altogether, claiming my internet was too slow (Netflix and Hulu worked just fine and connected instantly). The troubleshoots I looked up said this app uses the best quality video for the internet connection you have, yet it won't let you change your quality to see if that helps. For such an overpriced subscription, you'd think it'd be a breeze to connect and enjoy your shows/movies, but no that is no where close to the case. Save your money and subscribe to Hulu and Netflix, both of them combined equal about the same price as this piece of crap.
Can't use Chromecast 1/5
The app works fine... IF you don't use Chromecast. If you're using Chromecast, you can't rewind. You can't fast forward. You can't even pause it! I would not recommend to anyone who frequently uses Chromecast. You can expect a horrible customer experience. It's absolute garbage. The worst part is I am paying $15 dollars for this.
Some shortcomings 2/5
There's an excellent app for watching everything I do wherever I go but, unfortunately, there're bugs and glithes which disturbs me and interfere wathcing programs.
Please Fix This App 1/5
I have an iPhone 6s. The app does not update my continue watching list, and sometimes the list is completely empty. It also frequently prompts me to renew or link my prescription even when it is automatically renewed through iTunes.
Glitchy at best 1/5
How this became an "Editors Choice" I don't know. When paired with Google Chromecast, loads of shortcomings and glitches raise their ugly heads. Poor syncing, horrible UI etc.
Not bad 4/5
User interface is a bit odd but a good selection of movies.
In the last update chrome cast doesn't work!!! 1/5
By Yauheni 00000001
I just don't understand how the organization with such an insane funding has such a terrible app.
Get you s**t together, HBO.
I have development team and I lead product development myself. We can get your app fixed in 2 weeks.
I've been using this app for few years now and every other time i hate using it. It's just so full of bugs!
Terrible App 1/5
There are far better (and cheaper) streaming service apps, which offer more user-friendly controls and don't suddenly stop responding. This app often has problems connecting to services like Chromecast, and simply attempting to play a video directly in the app itself is impossible. It just does not load. I pay nearly $20 a month for this service, and I expect to be able to have a pleasant viewing experience. So far, that has not been the case.
Works great on my iPhone and Xbox and has better movies selection than the others. I love it
Unreliable and frustrating 1/5
Glad they offer a free months trial. Just downloaded this app and already it's giving me problems. It won't stream for more than 30 minutes without having an error message pop up and force a restart. Not real happy with it. Definitely not worth $15 a month.
Up There with Netflix 5/5
I'm starting to love this app. Dare I say almost more than Netflix. I have absolutely no issues with pausing or fast forwarding, and I love the 10 second rewind button. I'm currently using my free trial but I love the app so much and the shows it offers that I might keep it around (I just wish it was a little less than $15 a month but oh well). My favorite thing is how fast it loads and how the quality is still great even if the video is buffering. Very pleased so far!
This app is garbage 1/5
Freezes up constantly, plays movies with no volume, and it kills the battery on my phone unlike any other app I've ever had.
It's alright 2/5
It works for the most part. Only issue is when I'm using my chromecast. As soon as my phone goes to sleep the app no longer communicates with the tv. Fix this bug!
Terrible UI 1/5
Doesn't keep track of which episodes you've watched. I have to remember which episode I left off on and go find it manually. Doesn't even have quick links to the shows you watch. Terrible Chromecast integration: loses connection after locking phone, which means I can't pause or rewind. Poor effort from HBO.

Roku sub is not supported for iPhones. Downloaded app, have paid sub, cannot watch on iPhone because of my provider. Sad.
Where is the UX ? 1/5
Come on, it is impossible people who designed it use it...
The control when chromecasting, the bugs, the search ...
Considering the cost of HBO, versus its competitor, i am expecting better
Needs a lot of work 1/5
By Jay Harvey
This app crashes, lags, and is not worth receiving another dollar of my money. Save yourself the $14.99 per month and buy something else with it. Utterly disappointed.
Works fine? 5/5
I'm so confused about the rating of this app. I have it on my iPhone, Apple TV Gen 3, Apple TV Gen 4, and iPad. I've used AirPlay to other people's Apple TV's, and I've never once had a problem with this app. I binged Westworld and GoT several times no problems. 5 stars.
Garbage app 1/5
HBO's marketing team is in full damage control in here. This app is incredibly buggy and the latest release crashes my Vizio Chromecast. Every other TV app on ios works just fine - this app needs some attention.
No chromecast support 1/5
Less movie charge more 1/5
By Ajit Rai
Not like Netflix
Just terrible. Dont recommend it to anyone
Poor Chromecast integration 1/5
By Dan [unique string]
Crashes often. Presents two different interfaces -- one that supports seeking and one that only supports play/pause -- apparently at random and for no discernible reason.
From the "audio only" streaming to how the app pairs with chrome cast is beyond horrible. Going to cancel my membership until the app steps up it's game!
There is no way around it. It's 2017 and this is easily the shittiest streaming experience I have ever had. Constantly struggling to load, crashing, etc. Worst part? The browser version is no better.
Probably the worst app on my phone. 1/5
Sooooo glitchy. Especially when trying to cast. HBO makes enough money to be able to make a decent app. Clearly they don't care to fix this since it has so many bad reviews. At least I'm not the only one.
The app streaming works fine. I wish I could let a show buffer for a bit to improve the quality but it appears to do nothing. It is a bit hard to navigate movies. They need to add a lot more filtering options in order to find things to watch.
I have issues with it not streaming to Chromecast more times than not. Hate to be "that guy" but we've been snowed in for the last week with two episodes of Westworld left and we can't get it to work at all. I love the content on HBO but for how huge of a company their app is severely lacking and at this time not worth the subscription.
Broken Garbage 1/5
By Icy Infinity
Keeps giving me a "service code -1000" every time I try and login.
Worthless garbage. Canceling my subscription A F$%#ing SAP...
It's amazing 5/5
It has great content!
Worst streaming app 1/5
I really hope HBOnow steps it up, terrible app compared to others of the same variety. I have Hulu and Netflix apps to stream as well and have no issues for some reason HBO is such a pain. I have to go in and search for the show I want to watch every time I use it. It also doesn't work well with my chromecast, I have to disconnect and reconnect to HBO every time I start a new show. Please make more user friendly with some form of a watchlist you can add shows to and not just individual episodes, and maybe an option to keep watching the next episode like competitors offer. The app when used on a phone or iPad can't fast forward or rewind. I feel like if Hulu and Netflix can make there apps user friendly so can HBO.
I would expect better from HBO 2/5
This app lacks basic functions like adding things to your watch list. It constantly forgets what you were watching if you minimize. And there is no continue watching do you have to search for your content all over again. I can't understand why a company that has some of the best content available can't manage a simple app. Oh and forget about their website on an iPhone. It's even worse.
This app doesn't work well with chromecast. It doesn't play a movie if it's already been started.
It also doesn't give me the option to pause, put on captions, or browse while I'm watching.
Am I using the same app?!? 1/5
All these 5 star reviews and people saying they have no problems streaming?? Ok, I'll give you streaming credit to a device but don't try to cast to tv using ChromeCast...it turns into a Wes Craven style nightmare!! Freezes, disconnects from chromecast, making you jump through hoops to restart and then it starts from the beginning and not where you left off. Forget pausing to use the bathroom, get a snack etc...you'll spend the next 30 minutes reconnecting and then sliding to find where you left off. All in all, for $15/month, it's pretty much garbage!
Need update.. 1/5
Well to begin, change the menus format... add categories , top25 ETC .. connection issue , you. Any close the app and go back into
It , it loses connection.. it's actually very annoying. The casting is terrible.
Hardly usable 1/5
I rarely write reviews, but hopefully another 1-star review will motivate HBO to fix or replace this app which is incredibly frustrating to use (when it even works at all). Using it to google cast is nearly impossible.
Please fix this buggy app!! 2/5
For the money I pay, I expect a service that won't freeze up, unexpectedly quit, and crash my Apple TV over and over again.
I love HBO's programs, but this app makes it virtually impossible to watch without something crashing. It's actually gotten worse in the last few months.
Buggy with chrome cast 2/5
I've watched 1/3 casts successfully with this app. Needs improvement.
Worst app ever 1/5
By Heathorn hawk
I can't rewind or start a new episode over. The usability is awful. Oh, and it's been like this since the app was first built. How about an update with some bug fixes?
Broken full-screen in web player 2/5
The content is great, this review is just for the technology. Playback in Chrome is busted… you can’t go full screen (it will stay the same size and just be in a corner of the screen, the rest will be black). From the other reviews it looks like this isn’t a new issue, which is inexcusable for a company like HBO. Fortunately I found that it works fine in Safari.
(Yes I know this review is for the iPhone app, but you have to get the app to use the web player so it’s basically one big technology package.)
I do love the 15 second rewind option, so I gave a star for that.
Junk App 1/5
App doesn't work on mobile or Apple TV. Won't update to allow use or log in on mobile.
