HomeAdvisor app reviews

  • Great but... 4/5

    By JWiz21
I wanted to get quotes for some insulation and was just messing around with some other options as I am a new homeowner. There is no way to delete a project once you start and that is my only gripe. They need to add a feature where you are able to delete project because as soon as you open a project the phone starts ringing off the wall.
  • Very helpful. 5/5

    By Raftingmama
I just sold a home in Reno and built a new home in Placerville. I used Home advisor in both cities and was pleased with all the companies I hired. They really helped me find qualified workers who have all been friendly and efficient.
  • Ease 5/5

    By Warefareoid
I like the ease of having someone else do the vetting for me. My free time is very limited, so I want to make the most of it. Only send me the best workers, please!
  • Home Advisor 5/5

    By MirrorlakeRx
Very dependable and reliable source of getting things done.
  • Timely service 5/5

    By Audioliscious
My pro called within seconds of hitting submit on the search function. This was very important to us. Thank you whoever designed this system.
  • Unsolicited Sales Calls 1/5

    By Caitin Conchoille
All i wanted was a list of professionals in my area. After answering the questions, i almost immediately started getting phone calls. Thats great, but I don't want to be called directly.
  • Carport no show 1/5

    By C Paz
If the contractor show up the app is fine if the contractors don’t show up the app does nothing to make sure that you are satisfied do not recommend this app to anybody.
  • Perfectly Clean 5/5

    By Deb and Tom
Georgia and her crew were absolutely fantastic. Great job. I have birds and dogs so I knew it was a heavier load then normal. She called me a few times with updates etc. Highly recommend.
  • Missing half of the information 2/5

    By Severisth
Submitting requests through the app is a waste of homeowners and pros time since the homeowner can't put in any details so the pro is left wondering what the project is about. If it's only going operate as a phone book with pros preselected, we can use google maps or yelp. Would be better if they added at least the option to describe the project.
  • Gas supply line to new appliance 5/5

    By Pastor G 781
Fred is The Gas Man! He is meticulous, efficient, and friendly! And he will shoot straight with advice as well.
  • My most useful app 5/5

    By Dallasmax
    Don't stay home without it.
  • Very Pleased 5/5

    By Ellen BEAUFORT SC
I have hired 4 professionals from Home Advisor. The Audio/Video, Plumber, Countertop/Cabinet and Carpet cleaning people were all reviewed and highly recommended. It is wonderful to move into a new home and have the ease of finding those people without having to depend upon neighbors that you hardly know.
  • Great help 5/5

    By EliPWorley
I don’t have time to do a whole lot of research when I need something done around the house. With Home Advisor, I can just tell them what I need and usually within 5 minutes I’ve got someone with good customer reviews calling me to give me an estimate. I can compare prices with several and have always been happy with the professionals they’ve sent my way.
  • Nice but would like more options 4/5

    By Ycduff
Fantastic app. Very clean and user-friendly! Would have liked to have had more options regarding professionals for my home repair work but might just have been this particular instance. Very pleased with the HomeAdvisor customer service as well.
  • Install New Garage Door 5/5

    By dorriegemini
I recently needed to have a new garage door installed. I used my favorite company, Master Garage Doors and my favorite technician, Jimmy. As always I received an excellent job, with very professional and prompt workers. I’m extremely pleased with the results.
  • Fast & Friendly 5/5

    By Shaman Garoo
The Home Advisor app is better than ever before. They have created a myriad of home owner categories that all you need to do is select the one that best suits your need. To make the experience even faster, you can have the app actually find pros to contact you, usually within a few minutes. To me this is a great feature for it eliminates the phone tag situation. Overall the Home Advisor App is fast and friendly.
  • What a Relief! 5/5

    By IslandGal53
As an individual with mobility limitations; it is such a relief to have the services that Home Advisor can provide. I’m also new to the area so a web-site that can concentrate on my specific needs and can also provide professional choices. Reading of the reviews is very helpful. I like the option that allows me to contact companies versus having all of them phoning me. Thank you for the service you provide!
  • So helpful! 5/5

    By Tiggerdanser
I am so impressed with HomeAdvisor- they have been so helpful while we figure out who to hire for projects as new homeowners.
  • Electric doctor 5/5

    By Teresa Myers
Dennis Housby was very professional coming to my residence to install my bathroom exhaust fans. He explained everything to me and got everything done in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Dennis Housby. Thanks, Dennis!!!
  • Clueless scheduling 2/5

    By Mainemalts
While the electrician turned out to be excellent, Home Advisor was not. First electrician cancelled when I called him to talk about a replacement fixture. He was not taking appointments from Home Advisor. The second, whom we used, was unaware of the scheduled appointment until I called him. He was not working the day of our appointment. We found another day that worked. The process is anything but what is advertised.
  • 30 unsolicited phone calls in one day 1/5

    By Nolagrits
I will never use this app again
  • Needs more 3/5

    By Frodoguevara

  • NAVI Appliance Repair 5/5

  • Best ever 5/5

    By K&C3350
One of the difficulties of doing home projects is finding people who can do them. I have used home advisor now for appraisal, home inspection, roofing, electrical, termite removal, window replacement, tile work, tile cleaning and garage epoxy. The companies have been priced fair and provided excellent service. Home Advisor makes it so easy to take on the projects.
  • Quick 5/5

    By Webjock1
    Quick and easy to use.
  • Very helpful and timely 5/5

    By happyandsosatisfied
I’ve used Home advisor a few times now and have been very happy with their timeliness of response and with the professionals they send. I will continue to use them.
  • Not reliable reviews 2/5

    By Camerwa
How could you rank any service based on just one review? I think the bigger problem is the lack of professionals available on this app. This app run a fancy optimization algorithm just to display two pro with no more than two reviews max per professional. This is a joke!
  • Stupid old folks 5/5

    By Richiedoo
I’m putting a 5-star review to try to offset the number of poor reviews this app is getting for other services unrelated to the app.
  • A work in progress 4/5

    By Kepeka3
I understand the app is all new and need to be worked on more, sometimes I get NO response from anyone as requested.
  • Home Advisor 5/5

    By Darknebulas
I always use Home advisor app when looking to hire someone for a project that I need done. Have had great success using the professionals listed.
  • Sierra Sound and Security 5/5

    By VICKIPOOH
My husband and I are so happy with the Sound system Mark installed for our TV. It’s better than we hoped for. We will recommend Sierra Sound and Security to anyone in need of a wonderful sound system.
  • Background Check? 🤣 1/5

    By Industrial Emgineer
Don't use Home Advisor! From the moment you input your info, you’re harassed with multiple calls from every tradesman on earth. Are they background checked as claimed? 🙄 omg.. Many who contacted me were obviously illegal. It’s how they stay here. Work under the table doing roofing, tree trimming etc using Home Advisor to get them jobs.
  • Home Advisor 5/5

    By KL6377
This app was just right for me, way user friendly. Very convenient, and my first time use I have found a pro I have been wanting to find for years.
  • Be advised they will constantly call you 1/5

    By m200902102030
Just wanted to do research on a couple of possible projects but got constant calls from them. And the person calling was extremely rude , will never use or recommend their services.

  • Fan & Light installation 5/5

    By Lori's Bella & Izzy
Joe and his assistants were fabulous. Very professional explaining and asking appropriate questions. One of the most professional contractors I’ve ever had in my home to do a job. I can unequivocally recommend them five out of five stars. They called prior to arriving when they left their last job to say they were on their way. Their charges were very very reasonable. Highly professional. Would definitely hire them in the future for any more of my lighting and electrical needs.
  • iPad App Doesn’t Support Landscape Mode - It’s 2018! 1/5

    By havoc7701
The service itself is pretty good and I have had generally good luck with the contractors. This review is for the near-useless iPad version of the app which doesn’t support landscape mode. It’s 2018 guys! Landscape mode is a MUST. Many people use iPad keyboard cases in landscape orientation.
  • User friendly site 5/5

    By YblakeC
Great user friendly site. I found a professional within minutes.
  • Rogue Contractor App: Terrible results! 1/5

    By AYearLater
I have used the App three times and gotten terrible contractors. 1. I had a sprinkler system repairman come out and charge me $1,600.00 for a job that took 4 hours to complete and I had to help him because he didn’t have an assistant. I even cooked him dinner and he spent 15 minutes preparing his nickel and dime invoice. I was appalled. Just because I live in a big house doesn’t mean I should get ripped off. He nickel and dimed me for everything possible. He touted he was a veteran to try to make me trust him. A month later I got a three hundred dollar water bill for a 2 sprinkler heads that were not installed correctly. He said he was the best and the most expensive, but he wasn’t the best, and a complete rip off. 2. I hired a sod man to do my lawn and said I needed to get the sprinkler system working first. He said let’s make a date to do it and he would have his friend contact me and fix the sprinkler system. His friend never called me but the guy showed up on the date and started laying the sod down in the Texas heat when he knew the sprinkler system wasn’t working. When I called Home Advisor they said they were only a marketing company and had no control over their contractors. When I put my Attorney on the line, then and only then did they contact the contractor and tell him his work was premature. I was being totally taken advantage of. I even called the contractor and Home Advisor the day before to let them know the sprinkler system wasn’t in, and the contractors voice mail was full and he didn’t answer the phone after several attempts. Home Advisor said they e-mailed him, but he came anyway. He finally confessed, took up the sod and said he was sorry, but only after being on the phone with Home Advisor for a half an hour and then only when my Attorney talked some sense into them. I would have had dead grass in a matter of days without water and then would have had to get rid of it and start all over. He barely spoke English when I told him I didn’t have the irrigation system fixed he said his friend would do. What a terrible way to do business!! 3. My final and last experience with this website was pouring a concrete slab for a hot tub on a deck. The slab was ok, but after I paid them they wouldn’t put the hot tub on the slab. They said it had to cure and then had a pile of excuses that they were so busy and said they would do it and then no showed. I had to send them a picture that it was holding up the my new deck, which they wanted to do but their bid was way too high, and got vindictive that we didn’t hire them. When they finally showed up to move the tub onto the new pad they just shoved it over the edge and it caused exterior damage and it has leaked ever since. They ruined the hot tub. Such malice and unconscionable behavior is criminal. The Website that touts good results and honest contractors has policies that work against the customer and if you don’t like their bid, they give you a hefty trip charge. Their bids are usually twice as high as others. This website has caused nothing but problems for me. Rogue greedy contractors have been my experience. STAY AWAY! I am now using thumbtack and they give you a quote before they come out and give you the run around. They have you take pictures if they need clarification that saves everyone time. Another thing about HA is they charge you to come out and bid. The sprinkler contractor said he would put a lien on my property if so didn’t pay him his fee or go with him doing the work, with an open ended bid…blank check in other words. Anyone who starts out that way, you know is a crook and shame on me for going with a contractor who can’t quote a price and is better at cornering his customers into getting ripped off rather than doing a good job. Home Advisor would not publish my review, either, so don’t rely on the fake reviews you see on their website. They charge the contractors such a high referral fee that they feel obligated to cover for them when they strong arm you into doing the work. It is the worst possible way to treat a customer and corner them into an outrageous project cost you don’t know what it will be until it’s done. No one legitimate operates like this! Use Thumbtack instead. They have much more honest policies and give a bid before they even come out so you know what to expect. Their contractors treat you like customers instead of meat for a pack of wolves to devour. And do good work and I’ve had them do more jobs satisfactorily.
  • From a HomeAdvisor Contractor’s point of view: A Scam! 1/5

    By DJ Freko
This was the worst company to ever get involved in or with. After dealing with them you will have a very sour feeling in your guts from the ripoff, scam and disappointing experience. It's almost like swallowing a venomous animal that kills you slowly and painfully. If you are a real, transparent and honest pro/contractor/business owner: DON'T DO IT! DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY. You're better off doing DOOR-TO-DOOR SALES. Our first mistake in falling for this ripoff was giving them our credit card info after they convinced us of their "NOW NOT SO -GREAT- SERVICE". It starts with the $314 initial fee to sign-up. Then they sell you the idea that they're an advertising company. This is not true: as an advertising firm promotes your company, product or service, without anything to do with your potential customers. HomeAdvisor acts as the solely and exclusive point of contact between you and the customer. They charge pros for leads, but they control each and every lead without assessing their needs, most of them just shopping around, having no clue about what HomeAdvisor is doing with their contact info (which is being bounced around between 5, 6 or 7 different contractors), 95% of these leads resulting in empty business. For the service we offer, HomeAdvisor was charging us $22 to $100 per lead (for basic services). It would cost our company even more if we listed the higher-end expertise and services. Thank God we didn't, because from the beginning it felt like something wasn't adding up and smelled fishy. It all felt like their computer systems were generating these leads automatically out of thin air, all from their database of people who have downloaded and created a profile on their HomeAdvisor apps. So, the average lead was $35. We experimented with about 20 leads (costing us $700). Out of the 20 leads you make $300 profit, then do the math. The extra $400 you're paying HomeAdvisor is a lost for your company. Based on these actual numbers, we decided to close our account, which wasn't that simple or transparent. They tried to get us by offering to refund empty leads, but only if we kept their service, which would have resulted in -$400 (in negative) for every 20 leads. Then we called and asked to speak with a supervisor who gave us the final: We DO NOT REFUND the $314 initial sign-up fee. So we called our bank and filed a claim for the amount. Our bank refunded us the whole thing. A few weeks later HomeAdvisor sent us a email that they're referring us to a collection agency and are now trying to ruin our professional credit. It's not worth it!
  • Home Owners Best Friend 5/5

    By Boyoung65
This is a great service. Whenever you have any home repair or home improvement; anything to do with your home. You just cannot beat this service. Go on line, enter your information and the job that you need and then having someone call you back in five or six minutes and set up to have the job done. The contractor has already been screened and you can read the reviews. Just cannot beat this service.
  • Terrible app 1/5

    By Dfhbcxcbnn
This app is for olds. “Fill out your name and birthdate to get a list of contractors, sonny!” Look, I have a project. I want someone to work on it. How hard is that? Is it necessary to sign up and fill out a bunch of text fields? May as well just call 3 random contractors, mirite?
  • Not pleased 2/5

    By Moe122272
I like the easy way there is to request a professional, even a few professionals, but I think the vetting process could be improved. It seems anyone can get referred on there.

  • No option to delete projects 1/5

    By In Smurf Land
User interface needs improvement. I should be able to delete projects but cannot.
  • Painter was horrible and ripped me off 1/5

    By DufferJ
They sent a real bad painter. Firstly, company not registered with State of Corporations. Was paid and did not finish job. Going to report him to State Attys, Local Law Enforcement for taking advantage of a Senior Citizen post Hurricane damage. So angry, no recourse because person is not a pro, unlicensed, could not produce ins when requested and disappeared. Where is the help from this Application? Their phone number does not work. Rings once, no answer. Wondering if they even conduct due diligence on their recommendations? Lost confidence in this matter and want my money back!
