HATE HATE HATE THE NEW HULU APP 1/5
Incredibly unintuitive, extremely hard to use, all I do is scroll scroll scroll, still can't find what I want, everything is huge, can't see variety of things at once, such a waste of time, can't find anything easily, this is a nightmare!!! Perhaps I should thank you, because due to this new nightmarish update, I get so frustrated so quickly that I just simply turn it off. I now only watch about 1% of what I used to. I know I'm not alone, in speaking with all my other friends they feel the same. They would rather watch nothing than try to figure out this torturous app. I'm sure that's not hurting you in ad revenue at all.
I like taht there're so many selection of movie, shows, anime and cartoon but what annoys me is that i paid 8 bucks for the thing and there's tons of advertisements! I am ok with 1 or 2 but 4?! Everytime? Like effin seriously? It is not worth it at all!

Really, I've never written a review on the appstore, (and while it's true what people say, that you're far more likely to write a review after a negative experience rather than a positive one), but this interface is really dreadful. It looks beautiful, but (especially on apple TV) it's a horrible UX, takes a lot of intricate scrolling, and is hard to see show descriptions from 10 feet away on the couch. I'm not even that old. Sad times. C'mon Hulu. You're great. Sought yourself out.

The code is not very well written. Whoever tests these recent releases... you need to do a better job! I love the shows that are on the platform but I have to disconnect from chromecast, connect again, press pause, close again... until it works. Maintain your code!
Latest Apple TV App is Not User-friendly 2/5

Navigation utterly confusing, can't see what I am watching anymore - a disaster. Can't find anything.
I disabled updates on my Android TV and can still use the old app there. Not on my Apple TV anymore unfortunately.
Free Trail Fake 1/5
It offers a free trail to see if you like it, but when you click it, it tells you that after the trial they'll start charging you every month. I'm more of a Netflix person but thought I would try this out and maybe switch, but they don't even let you see what it's like before you give them your credit card info. Definitely not worth paying for something when you don't even know what you're getting.

This review is for the 4th gen Apple TV app.
The updated app is beautiful and added viewer profiles. Both big improvements, but the app needs a few tweaks to make it better.
First of all, they took away the badge count that shows you how many new episodes you have for a particular show.
Secondly, it really is hard to tell which show you have selected in the menu. Yes the tile gets a little bigger, but only slightly. Dimming the others or putting a border around the selected tile would be a big improvement.
A bug has been persistent for past 1/2 year or so. When fast forwarding ten seconds multiple times the app freezes and deposits you back to the menu.
Hulu has great programming. The price (especially when you spring $4 for no ads, which is required to make it viewable) is a little high and should probably come down to parody with Netflix.

Seriously the new update on Apple TV is one of the worst designed apps I've ever used. I don't know who in the world would have allowed this to be a final design. Completely unintuitive and can't find anything.
New layout is awful. 1/5
This new layout is for the birds! It's hard to navigate, confusing, and super frustrating how many times I have to scroll and click around to get to something that I only needed a couple clicks to get to before! What I hate the most is my shows not having a badge to tell me when new episodes are available at all, or a badge to tell me how many episodes on a series I have left to watch, and also that my watch list is not right there on the home screen anymore either. Scrolling up & down to browse through shows is a huge pain in the butt because I have to scroll all the way back up through the list to get to the top. Left to right scrolling was soooooo much easier. The whole layout is just horrible, it's not the kind of redesign I can like after I get used to it, it's the kind that will make me cancel my subscription all together because it's so frustrating & non-user friendly now. The ONLY thing I do like about the whole thing is that it tells me what date I watched an episode now. But I really hate that the original air date & time length for each episode or movie was removed more than I like seeing when I watched it. I liked that being there especially for older shows I watch so I could see when they actually aired on tv. I don't know why Hulu went for a complete redesign on something that was already easy & convenient to use....if it isn't broke, don't fix it!!! The redesign needs a huge redesign.
Way too many commercials 1/5
Makes it unviewable, I will not be continuing my free trial. I do like the new layout but still no way am I paying this amount of money to see this many commercials and I'm not paying an extra 2 bucks a month for no commercials when I would already be paying. Ridiculous scheme they got goin on, I'm not contributing to this business practice.

There is no better app for TV and movies, but I would really like if you got some of the old Disney shows, like That's so Raven and Suite Life of Zach and Cody.
Just Absolutely Ridiculous! 1/5
I absolutely love Hulu but lately, it's been very frustrating. The new and "improved" Hulu has been one big headache for me. Hulu is constantly crashing and kicking me off saying "network error" but my internet is always running just fine. Hulu doesn't save were I last left off so I sit there trying to figure out what episode I watched last. Tends to lag or go very slow ALOT. Also, very confusing to navigate. I tend to switch between Netflix and Hulu cause Hulu just never seems to work for me. I can't help but compare the two and Hulu comes out with the most problems for me. I honestly cannot take this headache anymore. These bugs need to be fix as soon as possible or I might just leave Hulu all together cause this is simply just ridiculous. 🤦🏽♀️
I used this app a lot....now I only use it from a device that hasn't been updated. The update is way to complicated if it's going to be pretty it still needs to be easy to navigate....FAIL!

Update: whoever designed the new UI should be fired. Turned an app unusable. Thank you Apple for the TV app that can bypass direct to content. Now if only it wouldn't crash...
No default Profile and can't stop Auto-Play 2/5
They removed the option to turn off auto-play, and the new interface now forces a profile choice every time the app is used. This is annoying when almost all of the viewing is done using one profile.

The new format is terrible. I cannot find the shows I watch. I don't like I have set up my preferences in order to see the shows I watch. I also cannot find my Showtime app. Please Hulu either change back to the previous format or improve the current format.

I've been overseas for the last 2 years (military) and I haven't cancelled my subscription because I truly love Hulu but imma need y'all to get it together soon because Netflix works (when it doesn't want to crash) and y'all could lose business if you haven't already!!!!!
I don't know what you did because nothing shows up in the app now. No shows. Just the banner. So basically it's useless now. Please fix it.

Horrible Interface 2/5
Please make the interface more clean. I like the idea of live tv and on demand content in one service. However, the horizontal categories are way too plentiful and give me anxiety. Then there is confusing my stuff area and DVR area. What is what?
The initial quality upon pressing play is bad until 1 minute in.
Also, where is AMC? How do I watch Better Call Saul?

The product managers, UX/design leads that approved this UI for the Apple TV need to be 🔥. I won't even call it pretty. It's atrocious. I can't find the content I want to watch. Gone are the days of easy navigation. It's not something that's getting easier the longer I use it too.
Please, please go back to the drawing board. I'm considering canceling my subscription now or putting it on hold until the UI gets fixed.

I've given up on Hulu. I don't think there's ever been something in this world that drives me to the brink of insanity as Hulu has. I've messaged them on several occasions regarding tech/error issues and all they do is send me pre-typed messages that are of no help what-so-ever. These glitches haven't been fixed in almost a year. I'm done.
New Apple TV interface is awful 1/5
The new Apple TV interface is awful. Before you could see everything at a glance. Now it forces you to scroll through and you have to go all the way back to the top to toggle out of a category. Please fix or bring they old interface back. Honestly, this is awful.
Update: can we please ditch this awful UI already?! Seriously, this is atrocious. If not, I'm just dumping Hulu.
I am completely disappointed by this update. The way I use to keep up with television shows was by the "popular episodes" feature which seemingly disappeared. Navigating on an apple remote is difficult enough, why make a complex UI which makes it even more difficult? I agree with the comment about setting up DVR with my provider as an alternative to this difficult update. The original screen where I could view multiple options was better than this one. This update seemingly pushes Hulu Originals while making it impossible to turn off auto play feature which seems like a strategic action from a business perspective (profit-greedy), but a frustrating move from a (or, evidently, MANY) consumer perspective(s). Then, lack of C/S to respond to consumer complaints. "We're monitoring your feedback." Give me a break! I've been with Hulu since it first came out, told all my friends about how great it was, received great C/S time and time again, then when it comes to this I am told to voice my opinion on a community board used by probably less than 2% of subscribers. Good grief. The one thing that I find useful from this update is the "multiple profiles" option, and even then, it's not even useful to me. Now, since this update has been such a nightmare I have turned off the automatic app updates on my appletv, and plan to cancel my subscription soon.

I have the commercial free plan. A couple times per day my show shuts down and I get the message that this show is not available for the plan that I have. Then I resell the the same show and it plays alight. But it happens too much.

Why? Just why? The new interface makes me cringe. Hulu and I used to be BFF's. We'd eat ice cream, do laundry, laugh, cry... all of the things that friends do. Now, it's like I don't even know Hulu anymore. There's a gaping hole where my heart used to be. With the time it takes to find my shows, I could actually be doing something productive (awful), like my dishes, ew. No thanks. Save my sanity! Come back to me Hulu!!!! WHHHYYYYY

Got it on the app and my watchlist disappeared and when I go to my watchlist manually it says I haven't added anything to my watchlist and I have. I went to try to play a tv series and it's not showing the episodes just the clips . I tried randomly playing something and it says the operation couldn't be completed (HUDeejayErrorDomain error 14.) I don't know what to do I exited the app several times and tried turning my device off it's still not working :(
Continuing the downward spiral of unusable UI 1/5
I've been an paying member (ad-free) for quite some time, and free user for much longer. Hulu has seriously earned their low app ratings, from poor interface to buggy playback (audio cutting out and not coming back till you remove the app from memory and start over). The latest re-design? It takes the cake.
99% of my Hulu usage needs a simple queue that I control: let me watch new episodes in the order I want. That is it. Every major update in the past year or two has made that more difficult. But now? New episodes don't even show up, and it's pushing first seasons on shows I'm currently in season 3 or 4 of (just waiting for the new episodes to come out, except now the app doesn't even let me see that either). The queue...wait no, favourites... wait no, watchlist...wait no, my stuff?! Or is it the keep watching list? Hard to tell, because everything is messed up, and new episodes...it's not usuable.
On top of that, the remaining 1% of my Hulu usage involved browsing...which we can't do anymore because shows are only shown one at a time. That's not browsing. That's a massive waste of time.
Roll back 2-3 years (back when there was a semi-usable queue), then fix the bugs you're pracitcally famous for: audio cutting out and not coming back till removing the app from memory and starting over.

Hulu has a lot of good options for shows. However, the ads are horribly annoying and to make matters worse, Hulu never keeps track of where I am when I resume an episode. It makes me rewatch the commercials which drives me crazy. The Hulu version without ads is also just too pricey for what it is. I think it's ridiculous to pay extra when Netflix does not charge you extra at all. Hulu is also not very user friendly. The setup is confusing and makes it hard to find the current episode you're watching.

The new version for Apple TV is down right horrible. I'm not sure why they changed the interface at all. Auto play feature needs to be returned and navigating the new interface is stressful beyond belief.
Please change it back or you'll be losing yet another customer.

I didn't know it was possible to make the Hulu app even worse, but they sure did on AppleTV. I now stream Hulu from my iPad to my AppleTV. I've turned off auto updates just in case they try to ruin the iPad version too.
Decent service, but really tedious interface 2/5
The videos have streamed well but I feel the interface is really tedious to navigate, far too many levels to navigate.
I also find the kid's profile excessivly limited. I'd like to be able to define the appropriate content lavel for my kid (instead of relying on Hulu's judgement), and provide a search feature.

I watch Hulu mostly on my Apple TV and that's mainly where I have issues with the app. The phone version has no main issues, but the Apple TV version does. This new update in the Apple TV app causes random shows to play instead of the one I chose. The new menu layout is very confusing, more so than the previous layout. On top of that the movies and shows often jump ahead after commercials and often play with no sound. The volume also fluctuates often without moving the TV volume setting. Might be cancelling my subscription.
