The new update is terrible. The home screen is unusable and it's impossible to find the shows I normally watch or just to browse. Also, the new rewind/fast forward feature is terrible for someone who likes to check the time during a show. Contemplating canceling by subscription to forgo the headache of this new update.

Why every two seconds when I watch a show, am I seeing ads? I pay for it so I don’t understand the ads.

Simply put, the latest update to the interface is what happens when someone who has never watched or browsed for programming designs a layout for the rest of us who do. The redesign is a great example of beautiful UI but horrible UX.
Save your time, cancel your subscription, send a message to Hulu, and come back when they fix it.

The new layout is overly confusing. I find things far more difficult to find and use. They seem to be focused on making it “modern” which increasingly means “show you one thing at a time and make things impossible to search”.
Worse than that, I use this sometimes to stream on my Mom’s Apple TV when I go to visit, but they removed that feature for “security” reasons. It is insecure to stream tv on a tv? I think they are hoping to “secure” her as a paying customer, but that won’t happen at this point.

I don’t usually leave reviews for apps but I’m just really done with this update. I can tell by this complete design change that you were trying to make people look at the app differently because tbh it’s always had pretty bad reviews. But on thing that irritates me every time I use this app is the screen scrubbing fast forward/rewind function. The whole holding the screen to fast forward is so annoying on the iPad, I know this might sound like a user error but bro the amount of times I have accidentally jumped forward while watching a show is incredible. This feature should at least be able to be turned off.

So why when I'm watching Hulu keeps freezing up. It's very annoying when your into a scene and the program freezes and saying it's loading. Please fix this issue.

No guide? What? My channels? My stuff? A little confusing? Maybe. I know it’s weird, but think about it. The days of watching something because the networks tell us to watch when they want us to watch it are almost over. You’re cutting the cord because you want a new experience. This is it. The more you tell Hulu what you like, the better the app will work for you. I do wish I could tell Hulu I don’t like some of the suggestions it makes for me, but I know they have to push some shows to make money. And I wish I could arrange the channels by favorites or hide ones I don’t care about, but hey, this is a GREAT start.

Where's the "added functionality"?
All it is, is harder to use.
This has to be the worst PAID streaming service app, I have ever seen, and I’m getting fed up.
I wish that I could just go back to watching it on Safari, now.
This “touch anywhere to FF-RWND” is utterly useless, and incredibly frustrating!
The deal has ALWAYS been touch the track bar to skip around. Now, every 10 sec skip back takes 20 secs (at least), because you can’t touch the screen to make the controls go away anymore, without skipping around to wherever the heck you touched the screen!

This is making me so mad...every time I click on the screen to check how many min is left...the video skips forward like I am dragging my finger it is so annoying..this is just a way for the company to make you get the no ad purchase so if you do skip the video you can go back without viewing the ad...oh and also if you skip forward accidentally and land on a ad bar or past it you play the ad. The fast-forward and rewind 1/5
I would give this a 5-star if it weren't for one thing: the scrolling. It's maddening how accidentally tapping ANYWHERE on the screen automatically scrubs the video to another time. This is such a nuisance that by itself, it warrants a 1 star review ☹️
Why can’t you delete shows from your history anymore? If I watch a show and decide I HATE it, I should be able to just remove it. Of course hulu disagrees. I don’t know why I bother paying for this stuff.

Like the app and while the interface takes a few tries to get used to i’m getting the hang of it, but where is functionality to stream from an iphone to a connected Apple TV? I get it there’s a Hulu app, but would be nice to be able to mirror video from a phone onto a larger screen via an apple tv.

I have two main problems with this app. First, the rewind and pause screen that you get. There have been so many times when I have accidentally fast forwarded or rewinded the show because of the sensitivity. And secondly, the format of the app hides most of the content. Unless you know what show to look for, it’s almost impossible to find it because of the limited amount of shows they “advertise”

I am so frustrated and annoyed. The picture by picture doesn’t work, the user interface is confusing (at best) and the selection is meh. I have Netflix too and I know it’s possible to make a well designed app because Netflix did it!

It needs work!!! I was having issues with it freezing but after the update it’s working a lot better. I’m wondering where is season 3 of Growing up Hiphop? Also, where is season 2 through 5 of Marriage bootcamp? How do you just skip through seasons of shows or only show certain seasons? Please fix! Also, Can you add Growing up Hiphop: Atlanta. Other than that I like the app.
P.S. please add more networks like TV one centric, and own network shows, and show every season of shows that’s already on the app and more to come. Thanks!

Does the team developing this app read the reviews? Does the team developing the app even USE IT? I’d say the answer to both is: *NO*.

While I like the new look and interface Hulu is getting more and more buggy. Episodes keep disappearing, shows are locking up when playing, when removing a show or episode from My Stuff the interface freezes. This is both this app and the Apple TV app as well.
The new ui looks like the designers had a stroke and are now brain dead. The only redeeming feature is the full screen playhead scrubbing. Miles behind Netflix's ui.

Here is a free tip, if you have an interface that works, don’t change it. With every update Hulu gets worse and worse, at this point it’s more or less unusable. Just about everything about this app is broken. Don’t update, the last version might have been bad but at least it worked.

Keeps turning on subtitles when disabled 2/5
The subtitles keep coming back on when starting a new episode after the one before it ends. I tried setting the subs to auto and off but they're still there. You have to turn the setting to subs ON then OFF to make them go away. How about the subs stay off if the preferences are set to off? Nope they come in again at the next episode.

I can search and browse the shows/movies, but when I click it to watch it, it just crashes.
This has been happening for like a year now. That’s not ok. I’ve tried resetting my phone, and even deleting and reinstalling the app. I always install the latest updates hoping that one day it’ll work, but y’all don’t listen to your customers. It’s really a shame considering that I’m paying for it and I’m not able to watch it on my phone. You really should treat you paying customers better.

This stupid app has it so that you can accidentally fast forward just by tapping the screen to check the time or how much is left of the program. And if you fast forward far enough you might accidentally start a minute and a half of adds which you can’t skip to try to go back where you want.

It now takes 700 clicks to get to the show I want to watch and only a handful of the shows I watch each week show on the watch list that is not so easy to locate any more. I forgot that I started watching a new show and only saw the first episode. Now that I want to catch up, only episodes 4-8 are available. Shows that I don’t watch are on my watch list because the app automatically played them when another show was over and now I can’t get them off my watch list. HATE this version! Worst version ever and I’ve been using Hulu for years. Already have Sling and considering dropping Hulu and only watching Sling.
I hate the updated Hulu app. Scrolling to view is a waste of time and annoying when before I could visually see many selections. Now it's 4 choices on a screen unless you scroll whereas before it was 16 per page. I do not like this at all.
Rewind/fast forward feature is awful 2/5
Overall the app isn’t bad, but the rewind and fast forward feature is absolutely infuriating. Too many times have I tried to pause a show and accidentally hit slightly off the button or my daughter will hit the screen causing me to jump to where ever was hit. More often than not this causes a commercial to start and I have to wait for a minute and a half to try and put my shoe back to where I left off. Hopefully they refine this a bit more so the viewing experience can be a little more streamlined.
The selection is junk, way too many ads for a paid service. The app is not the easiest to navigate. Too many ads for a paid service. Rewind button skips me back to the 14 min mark where there’s another f#%+ing ad.

Edit 11/22/17: Two updates and no resolving streaming via the HDMI adapter. I can't understand why Hulu, or any company, would choose to make their product LESS functional.
Eliminating the ability to use an adapter and transmit through HDMI was insane. Whomever thought of and approved such an idea needs reassigned. Don't believe me? Just think how much ground you lost to Netflix and Amazon via a self-inflicted wound. And for no other reason than THEIR APPS WORK!
No "hurrr - durrr but muh content's better" argument. Just their apps are functional. Bring back HDMI output on IOS and do it quickly. It's not a suggestion. I'm encouraging my wife to cancel now. Quit the updates unless they improve the user experience.
Before you release an update, stop and ask yourself, "Does this improve the user experience?" If you cannot answer that 100% affirmatively, scrap it and start over. It's worth it versus the hit to your reputation - that takes time to rebuild!

Fairly useless for me since there is no HDMI support. We watch most of our content from our phones connected via HDMI adapter. This app does not allow this. That’s crazy!

iPhone X Screen Pillar/Letterboxed 2/5
All 2:1 and 21:9 content is pillarboxed and letterboxed on my iPhone X so the picture is significantly reduced on my screen. The “Hulu Originals” intro is 16:9 and takes up the amount of screen it should so it looks like it’s an issue with formatting of the actual content (the always present “Hulu” watermark is even slightly hanging under the video). Plus, there is no way to zoom in on the app.

So, I’m one of those people that likes to rewind on my favorite scene. So, I loved it when more streaming services added the fast forward and rewind ten seconds buttons. However, is there any reason that they need to be in the middle of the screen blocking everything? Does the screen need to be dimmed when it does this? Short answer. NO. What worse is when when your pausing or using the 10sec but and hit anywhere else on the screen, either to close the dimming or by accident, the show will skip to wherever you touched. Dudes that’s what the bar at the bottom is for. You tried to make something more convenient and instead made it aggravating as hell. Literally just had the show start over twice because of this idiotic feature and I wouldn’t let me skip the tv shows channel thing that before. So, I ended up watching it three times. Seriously, not useful at all.

Can I give this no stars? I loved the old layout of this app, but since they have updated it, it’s terrible and I don’t even want to use it! It’s not user friendly at all, you can’t find the shows in your watch list, and you can only view one item at a time and have to swipe through them individually. I’ll be canceling my subscription because the app is so terrible now. Heads up Hulu, take a hint from these ratings and just go back to the way it was before.

This latest version promised an improvement in my television-viewing experience with my iPad. Instead, what I got was a seriously degraded experience when using HDMI and/or AirPlay. Hulu Support says, "Hulu does not currently support HDMI-out or Airplay (including mirroring) on iOS. We are currently working on expanding our HDMI and Airplay compatibility," which I find utterly unacceptable for a for-pay service.
Other apps (e.g., Netflix) have navigated using iOS 11, HDMI-out and AirPlay. This is clearly a permeable technical barrier and it should be addressed.
