There is literally NO benefit to this site over other free food tracking apps and I had to “upgrade” to the keto version! Nutritional info not accurate, scanning feature doesn’t work. Upset I had to pay for three months worth!
So Engaging and Easy to Use 5/5
This app is nicely made. I’ve used many nutrition tracking apps, and this one is most engaging by far. There’s great little touches like the grocery store beep when you scan an item, cute icons and characters. I love that it syncs with my health data to auto update my calorie allowance after exercise. I do wish there was more flexibility in setting days for 5:2 diets, since schedules can change from week to week. It would also be helpful to have an easy recipe builder for counting calories in home meals. But overall, I’m very happy with it!
Customizable Calories & Macros 3/5
I like this app, but it would be a a lot better if you could customize your daily calorie & macro goals/set them yourself. For those of us following a program where these numbers have been personalized for us, it’s frustrating that we can’t set this up ourselves. If this is already an option, it needs to be much easier to find because I haven’t been able to do so.

The food database is awful. I want to enter my own foods but it only gives me the option to enter the calories. I input my calories for 1200 a day then it keeps resetting to a different amount. I picked a keto plan and it doesn't even calculate net carbs. What a waste of money. I'd like a refund.
Sync errors with Apple Health 4/5
Love the app, but it keeps losing some of my running data that showed up earlier in the day, but is gone by night as if I never did it. It’s kind of annoying for how much the annual subscription costs.

To be honest, I’m not a fan of this app. I used a website to calculate my macros out, and this app won’t let you put in your own values for macros, instead you have to use their preselected values. In addition, I get healthy meal prepped meals sent to me weekly. I am only able to imput the calories into this app, and not the macros. How am I supposed to track my macros if I can’t add them?

I love this app BUT 4/5
All of a sudden, my burned calories portion of the daily overview just stopped working after updating the app. No steps are counted either ☹️ I love this app and have the premium subscription. I love all the things you get with it, but it’s really annoying to have the burned calories feature completely stop working. I’ve tried every option to fix it - deactivated my iPhone and Apple Watch connection, restarted my phone, and even redownloaded the app. Still no luck and haven’t heard back from supper yet 😕

This app is gorgeous! I love the articles and the recipes look absolutely scrumptious. The aesthetics alone are what make this the most effective app, and it is super smooth! Even on this old phone, where everything else crashes. Huge thanks to the devs for achieving this. Now, I turned on notifications expecting reminders to update my water or add my meals and exercise, which would be really nice! Sometimes you get busy and don't track anything; it is the LAST thing on your mind. I did, however, get constant reminders to update my weight. As someone who has a Lifesum of 119 (almost completely perfect! 😲), I find that a little unhealthy. No-one should be weighing themselves every day, especially if you already have an unhealthy relationship with your weight, body fat percentage, or food. Even on a practical level, it doesn't make much sense. So I turned off the notifications, but it would be nice to be able to select what kind of notifications we get in the future! Such as for new recipes or articles, and reminders in other areas of body and health maintenance. Or a way to change the frequency: Weighing yourself every X amount of days. If there is already a way to do this, I hope the settings for it become easier to find. ❤️ Thanks for reading!

This is getting annoying 2/5
I’ve had the app for a while even when I had an android phone, it has worked perfectly fine. I just the iPhone the end of December and the app was working fine until now. When I click on the app it’ll stay open for a good 5 seconds then shuts off. I turned my phone off tried it again, didn’t worn, deleted then redownloaded and it’s still acting up. I love the app but that’s getting on my nerves.

The only thing missing is the ability to import recipes or at the very least allow the ability to add more than one ingredient at a time so I could copy and paste from paprika.

So far, i’m really loving the app. It’s a great way to count my calories and make sure i’m eating right. However, i’ve only had it a couple days. and this evening, it started crashing randomly. i want to add my dinner to the tracker, but it keeps crashing before i can do so. if fixed, you’ll get five stars from me!

Net Carbs Needed! 3/5

I just got this so today and while I love the way it looks, and haven't been disappointed by the food database yet, I'm seriously disappointed with the keto plans.
I bought app specifically for tracking my macros, and more importantly, a way to easily track net carbs. I wish I'd done my homework before paying though, because the app doesn't calculate net carbs at all. This makes it either useless, or a flat out pain to use as a keto app. I have to look at the net carbs for each individual ingredient and calculate it myself, which negates the use of the app. Also, since it doesn't take net carbs into account it throws off my percentages and gives me frowns faces for food that should be perfect.

Reduced features since update 1/5
I've been using the app for over a year. Recent updates have stripped away features I was used to having. Specifically, Marcos pie chart for goals and actual intake for the day. This is now a premium feature... I'm disappointed to find the app trending toward either bloatware or overcharging for previously free features. It's a bit scummy for a business model

Great App! I’ve used all the other apps. I always come back to this one. I love the friendly user interface. I used to be a premium user now I use the app to make sure I am eating enough throughout the day. The only difference with premium you will get feedback at the end of every week based on your water, vegetables, exercise,etc. (Very nice features) then it gives you a score. You also get access to recipes (if you’re interested) I personally didn’t care for them. Lastly, you get the option to pick different kinds of diets to follow(paleo, Mediterranean,etc.) they set your macros for you. One thing you can still do with/without premium is adjust your calorie intake and set the % of the macros.

I love the way this app helps me track my food intake. It has helped immensely keeping me on the keto diet. However it would be amazing if there ways a way to type nutritional information in for recipes that I find through other venues.
Height stuck at 6'12" 3/5
I'm 6'0", yet when I went to the settings I found it said I was 6'12". I tried 6'0" and 5'12" but they didn't change it. I could change it to 5'11" and 6'1" just fine but it seems entering 6'0" is bugged. 5'0" does work so it's not the 0 that's doing it. Please fix this, I'll just use 5'11" for now.

The 1st app to help with unhealthy patterns 5/5
This is the best health/fitness app I’ve come across (and I’ve tried many over the years).
It seems to implement a balanced view of what is healthy based on your preferred eating habits and focuses on nutrition rather than demonizing certain foods or encouraging you to restrict.
It hasn’t triggered my disordered eating tendencies and actually feels uplifting.
If I have a bad day food-wise or gain that week, the app is set up to where I feel encouraged to pick more nutritional foods for dinner or breakfast without needing to “start over again” or abandon it all.
I love the emoji-like rating system for each type of tracked food as well. It helps me identify where I could do better and lets me know which foods I’m consuming are nutritionally beneficial for me.
All around a great app. 10/10 would recommend.
Great tool and interface — missing 1 major thing 4/5
I really like this app and would love to completely switch from my fitness pal - but haven’t just yet because of one small thing - the ability to scrape a recipe from websites. MyFitnessPal has this functionality and I use it all the time as most of my recipes are coming from Pinterest or other online sources. Saves SO much time and effort when this is automatically scraped and matched with ingredients/nutrition data. Switching between apps on the phone to manually enter in a recipe is terrible. Please please please consider this!! I love that Lifesum syncs with my Apple Watch health data and not just steps. If lifesum could incorporate a recipe scraper that would be fabulous!!
Terrible Food Data Base 2/5
I bought this subscription because I loved the format and layout of the app way better than others I have seen before. But after buying the subscription I’ve noticed that the food data base is very flawed. There is limited food options listed, and often it will not pull up options for simple searches such as “egg” or salad. In addition, there is little to none data of any sort of fast food. So overall I’m pretty disappointed since I payed for it.

So far my experience with the app has been great in leading me to weight loss, but I do have a few things I would like to see improved. It would be wonderful if there was a net carbs feature for ketogenic diets. I have been under eating carbs because I assumed the app took the fiber out of the carb count but as it turns out it doesn’t. Also, I have scanned certain foods like an avocado, and my avocados get a bad rating but other avocados are okay. Is this because some foods do have their fiber subtracted out of their carbs? Either way... confusing.

I want a refund because this app is very rigid. The list of foods has odd “standard” measurements (who measures eggs in ounces!?) so you have to do a lot of scrolling to find a normal item.
It keeps changing my macros to percentages I have not chosen.
It does not allow any altering of recipes! This is a HUGE problem as we all adjust recipes to taste.
Plus, as crazy as this is, it does not allow creation of actual recipes with multiple servings which means you must dissect your recipes into single serving list of ingredients. We are a family of three so everything must be divided by three and entered as an individual serving. With complex recipes that have many ingredients this is a lot of unnecessary math!
These alone would make me not happy but add to that I was charged full price while they were supposedly running a sale... unexceptionable!
Oh, yeah, and it keeps crashing.
I tried to get a refund from Apple and they say it doesn’t qualify for refund. There is no way to know about these glaring flaws until after you commit. I want a refund!

I’ve been eating Keto for about 4 months now but I downloaded this app to really help me stay on track without cheating.
I was excited until I looked up the carbs for a food and it wants me to upgrade and pay for the ability to see fiber quantities! Are you kidding? Sorry, but if your counting carbs then it’s pretty important to get the fiber content so you’re counting NET CARBS. I’m on specific budget and paying monthly for an app isn’t on that budget. I have to honest about an app that may be awesome but actively left out some valuable info unless you upgrade leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Beautifully designed, elegant, and has features on this app that most apps like this including the under armour app, would make you pay for. Granted, this app does have subscriptions where you can buy better features, but overall it has so many good features. I do wish that you didn’t have to pay for some of the features though like life score thing. Could you guys add a free trial? That might help users want to buy it more after ty see what it’s like. Can you guys add a feature where it’s easier to see previously added items. I know you guys have recent but that only brings up the recent in that certain meal. Just make it easier for us to see all of our recent meal items that we’ve used.
Missing the most key feature 2/5
I downloaded this app while looking for more ways to track my personal wellness in the Health app. This is my first time using this app and I’m about ten days into it with frequent use.
Thanks to a generally good in-app UX and gamification UX I quickly started enjoying this app and promoted it to a couple of friends. I really enjoyed some of the push notifications reminders it’s sent me so far, and even laughed at a couple of the more cheeky ones.
But after more than a week of use I went back into the Nutrition area of the Health app to see what data it pulled in and got nada. And after realizing that I can see why this app tries so hard to convert its users into paying customers quickly. Because it seems to me that if they don’t you’ll too soon realize as I did you don’t get to hang onto that useful nutrition info once you decide to move on from Lifesum. And no matter how fun or how well designed the app is, if it cannot give me the one thing I came to get from it (my data, preserved in the Health app) I view it as close to utterly useless.
That said, I really enjoyed the Indonesian cuisines appearing in the food lists and the faces of pain on my meals. I also enjoyed creating the meal images to add to my Swarm check-ins. But after all the hardball sales pitch this app pushed at me, for what seems to amount to a user retention growth hack and not much more I will never pay for this app unless it does what any well-designed nutrition app on iOS should do: Give me my data.
I was really excited about using this app, but it no longer allows me to use it after I connected my Facebook account. I enter the app and then it shuts it done before I’m even able to use it.

I’ve trued tons of fitness/food apps, but always seem to quit after a week or two. Lifesum changed all that! I’ve even lost 5 pounds just by being more motivated to eat healthy and exercise. The big difference for me is it rates the healthiness of foods, not just the calories. The app also nudges you if you eat too little, which I really appreciate! When I have an unhealthy day, Lifesum has good tips on how to improve, and congratulates you when you have a great day! I just wish you could turn on fruit/veggie/etc trackers without having to struggle in the Life Score first. Great app, WORTH the subscription!

I really love this app. I have the free version. It’s great and all but could you just have a little bit more options with the free version it feels like I’m limited to what I can do. Also I’m trying to sync it with Apple Health and it says it is synced but nothing is showing up in Health. Other than those problems it is great! Totally worth the time! ❤️

Upgraded to premium with the promise of meal planning and specialized diets. What the cost actually unlocked was a few specialized diets that largely were all comprised of the exact same meals. In addition the meal planning feature had a small handful of meals available with no real flexibility. For example - you can’t even block a day out. I downloaded today with the intention of shopping and starting at the end of the work week and yet I was required to have a meal selected and added to the shopping list for days I didn’t need. I also couldn’t rotate in other meal options - even ones found within the app.
Overall opinion - visually appealing design, lack of content, not intuitive, paid subscription for minimal if not zero added features. Save your money.

I sign up for three months, not sure if I’ll renew. The application is great but it doesn’t give any feed back. There’s not a coach on line to give you ideas on what to do, where to cut back exercise. For the price I was expecting more. I like that I can keep track of food and with the faces I know I’m on track or not, but then I could do that with other apps for free. I’m a visual person I would like to see videos of the recipes given on the app. I really hate the measurements in grams there should be a way to change them to cups, teaspoon, etc.

Befriend your hunger?! Absolutely not. 1/5

Took the test to see which meal plan I should follow and my “nutritional advisor”, Lykke, told me “When you befriend your hunger, you can lose weight without actually changing your lifestyle”. My recommended meal plan was to eat what I want 5 days a week, and fast 2 days a week. Are you KIDDING ME?!?!? Please someone else agree with me that this is unhealthy both physically and mentally. I mean really??? A NUTRITIONAL ADVISOR is helping me meal plan by telling me NOT TO EAT FOR TWO DAYS. Outrageous. This type of “meal plan” is what encourages eating disorders. I pray this portion of the app can be removed in order to spare others from the damage it may potentially cause. I understand in limited circumstances the reason for a fast, but encouraging ongoing multi-day fasts is damaging in more ways than one. Thanks, but I will never “befriend my hunger”.

Absolutely hate this app! It’s not free at all and I’m very disappointed. Everything you try to do it’s trying to make you go premium. And you have to pay for it! If you’re really trying to lose weight get the app 8fit it’s amazing and has great workouts. I lost 3 pounds the first week I was on it.

I would love to have the ability to add notes or journal on any given day. Having the ability to write down a NSV, or, the day my menses starts, or if I’m fasting, or add progress pics, or note a particularly stressful event, etc., etc. would be awesome. I would change my rating to a five star if only there was a journal feature. I love everything else about the app. The visuals have kept me coming back each day, and I’ve been known to avoid food tracking apps in the past because they weren’t as intuitive for me.
