Is great for learning bits and pieces but... 3/5
Im studying Japanese, and if this app was about learning the sounds that make up words and learning to read hiragana, I’d give it five stars. I learned all the hiragana characters and knew how to read/write them within the first week. I had more difficulty remembering words and sentences. If they suggested little tricks and rhymes to remember words, that would help immensely. I also wish there was a feature that explains/helps you learn grammar. It’ll give you two words and then make it a sentence (example: dog, like. Then: I like dogs) but it doesn’t explain why or how the words are put together. Another feature that would be nice to have in the early levels is how to read katakana, hiragana, and kanji together, as most Japanese signs are written that way.

I’ve used Memrise on my Android since it came out and have never been disappointed. I wish some of the subscription features were a to try out and my we can gain free ones from learning and raising levels. I have been learning Spanish for about year and a half and it’s the best app for learning languages.
Great For beginners to learn the basics of any language!
Easiest and fastest way to learn 5/5
Whatever these guys did was brilliant. My wife is french so that helps hearing the language a lot but still! I impress her and her family with things I learn on here. I also just listen to random french lessons on Spotify. I have recommended Memrise to everyone I know. I’ve done Rosetta Stone and I hated it! Dualingo was annoying and I totally fell in love with Memrise.
Not sure how to title this review! 3/5
I downloaded this app about 30 minutes ago. It caught my attention because today (January 17, 2018), Apple has it in the spotlight on their “Today” page in the App Store. It looked interesting, so I read the whole story on it. The description talks about this man (I forget his name, but the author of Memrise) and how he has an amazing memory and is able to remember this and remember that. It gave 5 specific examples of things, and I must say that it all looked great to me! So at the bottom of the sales pitch, there is a place for you to get the app for free. I tapped on “Get” and downloaded it into my iPad.
Well, here is where things get weird. The app I downloaded is for learning a foreign language. There is NOTHING in this app that talks about how to improve your memory, remember people’s name, remember important dates, etc, etc....I played around with the app, which is NOT called “Memrise” but is instead called, “Memrise: Language Learning”. Say WHAT??? How are we supposed to know that this app is to learn a foreign language? There is no talk of it whatsoever in the description (I’m talking about the description on the “Today” page of the App Store from Saturday, January 13th). It tells us to “Master Your Memory” and use these five steps to remember things such as: 1) Divide and conquer, 2) Make connections, 3) Visualize, and more gobbledygook. The whole setup is to think you’re getting an app that helps with your memory, but when you tap on “Get”, you get this app that you’re in now....an app that teaches you Spanish, or French, or whatever. I do not understand the connection between “Master Your Memory” and “learn a foreign language”.It’s also the firs time I’ve even looked at the Home page.....now I won’t be coming back because it’s confusing and stupid,. My rating is three stars because I don’t know how to rate something like this., I thought I was getting “Master Your Memory” but instead I got ANOTHER language learning program. Ugh....;very confusing!!!
I am learning so much 5/5

So it took me a while to decide to purchase this app, but I am so glad I did. I am learning so much mandarin it’s awesome. My girlfriend who is chinese is very surprised by my progress. This app is fun and definitely brings excitement to learn. Good job guys. I give this app 100000000 stars.
Nice to tickle my brain in a new way 5/5
Having fun with this simple memory game! Keeps my mind active while not taking me on an all day online adventure!
I can’t because not persian
Fun, but can be better. 4/5
I adore this app! It’s very easy to learn different languages. I think the only thing I dislike is the fact that there isn’t much too fun about the app. It should be more fun and games, even without the premium account!!

I really recommend this if you already know how to read korean, and or want to hear or speak. I think this app is good if you want to go at your own pace and remember vocab.
This is the best app I have used for learning a language. I seem to retain the language so easily and enjoy the challenge💜
Well made 5/5
Would be nice to add some more difficult English classes
I use it everyday, but... 4/5
It would be amazing to be able to ignore words from the app, instead of having to use the full site version to do this.
Really helping to refresh my lost French 4/5
Studied French back in high school and Uni a couple of decades ago ... and Memrise is definitely helping to shake all of that back into the useful part of my brain ... but having the check and the backspace buttons right next to each other is not such a good set-up ... the check button should definitely be relocated!

Keyboard errors? Great app 4/5
Memrise is a great app with multiple levels for Mandarin (Simplified Chinese). I like the review and learning words training levels. It’s also a good encouragement to see the little plant icon grow every time you chose the correct answer for a word or phrase.
The one thing I don’t like about this app is the glitches and errors with the keyboard and accents. The tones and different accented letters (á à ā â for example) are really important with Mandarin; however the available letters the app gives you to choose from to spell the words often don’t match the required ones to correctly spell the word. Sometimes your missing both the consonants and the accented letters making it impossible to properly spell the word. Maybe it’s just a mistake on the Mandarin 1 level, but so far I’ve only been using this app for a day and I’ve found these errors.

Purchased the one month subscription to test out the “pro” advantages. Nothing happens different!! Everything says you have to pay for a whole year just to access. So what is the point of having an option to purchase a month?!? I need my refund ASAP!!!!!!!!!...... other than that the app does help out a lot with learning new words. Especially Chinese which is a DIFFICULT language.

This is really helpful you can pick a language u want to speak and is says , shows, and spells it for you
What happened to my ability to browse courses? 2/5
Dear app developers: In previous versions, I was able to browse through what looked like dozens, if not hundreds, of courses. Now the only ones I can see are the official Memrise courses. What happened to all of the other courses? Please fix.
I have a paid subscription. Twice now, I’ve lost a huge streak because the app did not update to let me know I needed to do my daily learning.
I rely on the orange rocket at the top right corner to tell me if I need to do the day’s lesson or not (I’m doing multiple lessons at once). I lost a 170-day streak, and I just lost another 31-day streak, because the orange rocket did not update at the start of the day, after several minutes of loading & refreshing.
PLEASE FIX! This is very demoralizing & makes me not want to use this app or renew my subscription if this basic function won’t work!
Edit to add: The listening exercises are buggy--all of the choices are the same (the correct answer). The latest update did not fix this.
I've been using this app mostly to improve my Spanish vocabulary & it's great.
1. The app offers a ton of different courses for a wide variety of subject. Navigating all of these different courses can be a bit tedious, but the selection is impressive.
2. Even if you don't pay for the additional features in the pro version, the features in the free version are still sufficient for everyday studying.
3. The app providing its own keyboard for typing answers is helpful in answering in Spanish, without the need to switch your keyboard's language, when you have to use a vowel with an accent or a tilda over the letter N. (Duolingo doesn't provide this & that app is always scolding me for such typos.)
One request for the developers: Please make the Daily Goal section more easily accessible & clarify what satisfies the minimum for the Daily Goal. For example, REVIEWING words won't satisfy the Daily Goal, only LEARNING words. Sometimes I can't remember if I studied for that day or not (despite the reminders) & not being able to check the Daily Goal whenever I want makes it harder to figure that out.
We have a danish exchange student at our home. He speaks great English but we wanted to learn danish. This app has been great.
Doesn't have some languages 2/5
Wanted to learn Vietnamese but doesn't have it
Great, but please less advertising for a membership. 4/5
The app is awesome, but can there be less advertising for the membership.
Simple... precise... native tongue 5/5
I am really enjoying this. I studied in Italy, yet this is a nice “brush up”. My toddler is learning so much as well!!!!
The best app 5/5
This is what I was looking for! It’s the best app to learn with a interactive game
Seems great... until you finish one thing 1/5
Not sure if it’s a big or a feature but I could only finish the launchpad before getting stuck behind a paywall on French 1. Pretty useless if that’s the case, hence 1 Star. I’ve seen this mentioned in numerous forums and even reviews- somehow folks seem to think this is a great app when they can’t really take advantage of it.
I’d be tempted to pay for Pro if free let me do a bit more and convince myself its worth it. As it is, 1 Star it is.
More sentence variety 4/5
More sentence variety would be nice. Granted, I’m only using the free version so maybe if I wanted to pay, I would get my sentence variety. Overall, it’s a pretty decent language learning app.

This is game is a really good one. It is also language class. It is and easy way to know a lot of languages. It is very entuative!
Very fun 5/5
By Mestre total
Congrats, developers. Combining fun and learning is no small feat
Very good. Wish it didn’t shove the premium down my throat. 4/5
I like it, I’m getting the hang of this fast. But it has a lot of pop ups.
Great app 5/5
I have been looking for a great app to learn Spanish, because my dads side is all Mexican and I’m the only white boy. I’ve been over several apps like Rosseta Stone and some others but there not like this, great app, keep it up.
Too many in app purchases
Add more languages 2/5
Trial not free 1/5
By julz g667t
I wish they would be transparent about the fact this app is a trial version. I’ve started 3 separate course and none will let me advance beyond the first level/launchpad. A paywall appears and I am no longer able to “learn new word”. The app description states that free users can learn new words and review but not access other Pro features, it appears this was a blatant fabrication. I am reviewing this in hope that this is a bug but it appears this is a consistent and reoccurring issue for iOS users. Please fix this app or fix the description!!
Why so expensive? 5/5
I was having a great time learning Spanish on this... for the first day. After about a day of working they the app told me I had to make a payment. I was actually considering it until I looked at the price. Now, I know $30 a year isn’t that bad, but I would like to have an option to buy a month for maybe $3 or $4. There’s no way I’d buy a year, because it won’t take me that long to master the language.
It's a helpful tool with learning new Languages but I wish it could make it so it would be free to "advance" to the other levels
By Got seven bangtan
Please do try this. its really helpful
I just started this today and I already love it. Not only is it amazing but also the first game I’ve ever put a review on. Enough said
.. you really have to make learning more a pro feature?
ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! 5/5
I HAVE TO SCREENSHOT FOR PRACTICE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. YOU CAN’T ACCESS PREVIOUS WORDS LIST, OR I JUST DON’T KNOW HOW TO. STILL PERFECT 👌🏿
Easy to learn
Great for memorizing word and learning languages
And thanks a lot
Just a language app? 1/5
I downloaded this because, based on the description in the App Store, I thought I’d be getting an app that teaches memory tricks. Like games and fun tips and tricks. If I liked it, I was going to recommend it to my mom, who is always trying to improve her memory. After downloading, before creating a login, it seemed there were a lot of different categories for learning (history, literature, language, etc). But... none of that content is anywhere to be found now. it’s basically Duolingo, only less user-friendly. Seriously, the ONLY thing this app does is teach languages? No thanks. Deleting.
Cannot Log In After Download 1/5
After downloading this app for the first time, it’s telling me my email has been used. That’s impossible. That said, there’s no way to contact these people if you download the app without signing in. I’d like to resolve this by having them send me a temporary password if this technical issue is true. But since I can’t contact them… Oh well.
Learning French made fun! 5/5
I can’t believe I’m learning French. I’m mastering these words and surprising myself at age 45👏🏽💯❤️
Me gusta 5/5
Love this app!!! 5/5
Hands down one of the best language learning apps and give such an immersive experience to learning the language. In addition, hearing different pronunciations of the same word or phrase really allows the learner to get a better feel for just how to pronounce such words.
Easy and fun to use 5/5
I found this app to be easy to use and follow along with. Good review patterns help to commit vocabulary to memory.
Almost there... 4/5
I am learning German with this app. It is great, easy to use, and fun; however, I would like Memrise to include more grammar lessons so I can better understand the basic structure of the German language. At this rate I am learning plenty vocabulary and isolated sentences, but need some help with verb forms, etc...

I am learning french so fast! It seems IMPOSSIBLE how fast you can learn!!
