    Worked fairly well when we first got everything hooked up. APP for viewing is horrible and always lags out or disconnects. WiFi or LTE Service either have good results on the app.

    The system is great, but the app has some work to do; one major issue is when trying to watch an alert and all the app does is spin and nothing loads (this is on great WiFi, as well as cellular). However, if you manually reboot the system, it tends to work again or even after the weekly auto reboot.

    My cameras work but I can’t access the live feed no matter how long I let it load. The system is also connected so I don’t understand what the issue is. It used to work but now it doesn’t. Please fix this, I need to see what’s going on at home but I can’t if I the app doesn’t work.

    Incredibly slow load times (used to be faster) and random crashing. Also, Nightowl why can’t the app remember my DVR? I only have one listed, yet I still have to “select device” every single time I open the app. I’ve had this camera system and this app for over 2 years and I’m just about fed up with it. I’m currently shopping for a better product. Note: The cameras have held up flawlessly, I surprisingly haven’t had any issues with the physical equipment.

    I’m leaving this review early in my using it because I see that Night Owl is reading and responding to them and appears to be listening. System seems to be good for the price. First complaint is that is says the password is blank. We couldn’t log on and was very frustrating. Finally on a forum it told what the password really was from the factory. This unit would have gotten returned if we wouldn’t have found the forum. 2nd. Myself and my father have iPhones . The system is at my dads house, and after a few minutes he has to re-set the cameras onto his phone. He is older and this is annoying. My newer 6s has the same issue. Drives me nuts. But it does work and record and take the pictures so that’s a plus. It works great on my wife’s android. 3rd as mentioned in another comment, it is pretty frustrating trying to read some of the instructions. Seems like it will be a great unit if they get the app fixed. Will update when some changes are put out. Hopefully soon, because the app reviews being low drives purchases down I’m sure.

    The app needs a major update. The user experience is horrible but it works most of the time so I give it 2 stars. Please update the app so I can NOT throw out my Night Owl DVR system. I suggest people avoid this DVR brand until an updated app is provided if remote viewing is important to you. 1) The app requires you to manually connect the to DVR each time you open the app by clicking on it then waiting . It should automatically do this. Also the delay to connect seems extremely long compared to my previous system. 2) Once connected the cameras don’t immediately become visible. You must go and click on the view tab and hope they display properly. If not, you need to click on each camera to connect them. 3) App developers...go use your competitors apps. They are not this difficult and require as many steps to view your cameras.

    This app is great at times, but then it just chooses wether or not it wants to connect to a device. I can see the footage on other devices, but not this one. No matter what network I choose, the devices are always disconnected, especially when I need the footage most. FIX THIS!!!!😠

    1/5/2018 If I close the app by swiping it closed WHILE in Live View mode, the next time I open the app and enter Live View it remembers the viewing configuration and consistently loads live viewing. The app must be closed while in Live View for this to work, otherwise it will forget the device and viewing configuration the next time it is opened. Separate issue - As others have noted, something may have changed recently because now connecting from any network aside from the local WiFi is very unreliable. I switched the connection mode within Nightowl HD from OwlScan to IP and that works much better; connects every time now. To do that I assigned a fixed IP to the DVR, forwarded port 9000 on my router to the DVR and then configured the Nightowl HD app to connect via the IP address of my router (which rarely changes).

    Awful. The system rarely connects so I have to reboot the box to stream video. Useless if you want to actually view live feed. Without this feature the system is useless.

    App no longer goes to camera view when I get a notification. I can not connect now after your upgrade. I get notifications on my phone but It will not connect to view really time or recordings. I deleted and reloaded app but still will not work. Any reason why?

    App needs to be improved. The cameras work amazingly great but the app seems to be bad. It needs improvements in saving what channels you assign to view. It should be consistent and load at the same rate for all cameras. It freezes or will load infinitely until zoomed into one big screen for each channel.

    After your latest update my connection is lost and the DVR must be reset by unplugging it and plugging back in! Very annoying when you are away from the DVR! This App requires some major improvements. Give us an update that will actually help the App.

    The latest version 4.0 is supposed to fix some of the issues many of us have requested, such as faster load times and a default view of HD-CLEAR as opposed to SD-SMOOTH (honestly, who watches Standard definition nowadays?). Although I did notice some faster load times for my DVR, this seems to be a hit-or-miss. Sometimes it does it, sometimes it doesn’t. I know there are several factors that could potentially impact the load time, but I’ve done what I consider some thorough testing and the output is the same as I mentioned above. I still don’t see the default view of HD-CLEAR. Every time I open the app and go to my live view, all cameras are shown in SD-SMOOTH. The menu within the app is intuitive and appears to be promising as Night Owl is at least working on some of the issues consumers are reporting. However, it is not quite there yet. Maybe I’m asking for too much in a mobile app, but then again most smartphones nowadays are powerful enough to support heavy-load applications without diminishing its performance. Update: I just found out via their support line that there is a major bug with the latest version 4.0. Remote access is unavailable either via mobile app or desktop app. It will work just fine if you’re on your home network but once you use cellular network or any internet access outside your network, it will not work. I seriously hope this issue is fixed soon. This is completely unacceptable as remote access was the main reason I bought security cameras.

    What feedback are you listening too? It has literally stopped working over our cell network. We're getting notifications but now we cannot remote login. You guys fix one thing but screw up something else. The previous issue was we could not get notifications on WiFi but we ALSO wanted them on the cellular network when away from home. It defeats the purpose when you're miles away, email isn't working properly and think I can remote view my security but nope you can't. Please fix this. Thanks

    Jan 1, 2018–still no fix for the “swipe to view” notification feature failure in the app after the last update. Please restore this functionality...thanks. Prior to the last update, I loved the app. Now when a notification appears and I swipe to see the video clip, there’s no video...just the spinning “loading” circle. I’m using ios11 and an iPhone 6Plus. Please fix...thanks!

    I have to agree with all of the other one star reviews. Very slow connection, if it connects at all. Then some cameras come on while some do not. I have uninstalled the app then reinstalled it so many times I can't even count. I notice that after a bad review, Night Owl responds with a canned response, but nothing changes. Remote access was one of the reasons I bought Night Owl. If I knew it was going to be this bad I would have bought another brand.

    An update was released not too long ago and fixed the device connection issue, but now it’s taking forever to connect to live view. They solved one problem and created a new one. Or they masked that device connection issue to the live view.

    The app used to always connect, albeit slowly, before the update. Now, it hardly ever connects to the system, but it is much faster when it connects. We would rather it connect slowly every time, then fast every once in a while. We are thinking about returning it to by a different system.

    Camera hard wired system works well. App rarely allows you to stream cameras. If you are depending on that feature, look elsewhere. Update 12/31. Developer apologized and asked for patience after my last review. That was 3 months ago. App still doesn’t work with brand new phone, updated software.....etc. I was going to add another one of these systems, but I’m switching companies. It just plain doesn’t work. And as a small business owner, I need it to work all the time.

    I have this system for more than a year now. It’s a constant problem connecting the phone to the dvr. And the app doesn’t help unless I go on the dvr and redo the settings. At this moment whil I do have a connection between phone (app) and dvr, I can not get a live feed, only a remote playback.

    I have to unplug the unit at least three times a week. When I open the app and click on live view and then device it never connects. This happens when I’m on WiFi and off WiFi. Very frustrating when I hear bumps at night outside and the app just says connecting without ever connecting. I have to crawl out of bed and unplug it just so I can see what’s going on outside.

    We’ve had these cameras and app for about a year and a half. We’ve had no issues with them. We were even able to catch the low life kids egging our house. HOWEVER, since the most recent IOS update, I can not use the APP because it force closes and will not connect when not attached to WiFi. This was never an issue before. I wanted to buy more cameras and instal more since the system was easy to use but I’m considering a whole new system with a different manufacture because remote visibility was paramount.

    The update fixed most my problems. I also updated the firmware on the hard drive and not only can I view the cameras on my phone again but I even received notifications...problem is I can’t always connect when I’m away from home even though I continue to get notifications.

    In the last couple of weeks the app has not connected while I was out of town. Frustrating when your trying to check if things have been moved inside by neighbors or delivered to notify neighbors. Plus, now that it's working and I'm home, it's crashing and won't load up all the cameras. I still love the app and the program, I'm just frustrated with not being able to scroll through cameras.
