Hardly ever works, don't waste your money on a subscription 1/5
Update: 1/14/17: still rarely works. Problem reported in June of it turning itself off is worse. Don't waste your money on sub for this.
Update: 6/14/17: does not work at all anymore. Either the OS or this app keeps turning off the Nomorobo functionality in Settings - phone - call blocking.
The app does not refresh automatically as it should. Most robocall calls slip through and are not going directly to VM. Once one gets thru if I open the app it will update and mark the call as a robocall after it has already rang the phone without being IDed as a Robo. I should never need to open the app!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not worth paying for yet, needs work.
Works well 5/5
I’ve had good luck with this app. Lately I’ve been getting lots of collections agency calls for someone I’ve never heard of. I’ve tried with no success explaining they have the wrong number and asking them not to call again. The annoying part is that they call from different numbers. Nomorobo now blocks the vast majority of these calls!
Still getting robos 2/5
By Erik cha
Trying the free trial and doesn’t seem to catch most spam callers. Probably won’t continue subscribing
Great product! 4/5
Works on my iPhone very well. Ocassionally traps a number that is legitimate so 4 stars for not being able to notify the company of an error.
That being said, even though my landline provider (Cox) doesn’t use Nomorobo, when a robo call comes in on my landline (usually an out of area code with no caller ID), I check it out on Google and if it isn’t connected to a reliable source, input it into Nomorobo. My phone has stopped ringing with robocalls and scams as frequently as it did.
Save your money. 1/5
Doesn’t seem to block many robocalls because I still get a ton of them. Waste of money.
Not one Robocall instead of the four to five each day in the past. I couldn’t be happier!
Worthless garbage app 1/5
By BN in ATL
I have seen zero reductions in the number of spam calls that get through. Save your money and I wish I could get a refund
Worked like a charm! 5/5
The second I downloaded the app and added a few numbers that they hadn’t yet “caught” I’ve had ZERO calls. I was getting at least 5 a day. Worth every penny!!!!!
Waste of Money - Background Refresh Broken 1/5
Background updates do not work. This is an ongoing problem. The app has continually gotten worse. It is quite simply broken. I reported this to them and received a copy and paste response that did not address my problem.
My phone is completely updated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times. Background app refresh is on. I have done all the troubleshooting anybody discusses. This app is broken do not waste your money.
God send! 5/5
The 8-12 scam calls I was getting every day was starting to put my head in a dark place. Wasted time and distracting interruptions! Those jerks should be prosecuted. I was ready to try anything. The $2 a month is trivial and now peace has returned. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Just be sure to turn on "send to voice mail". They almost never leave a message. Problem solved.
Doesn’t refresh 2/5
The app simply doesn’t refresh on it’s own very often. I have background refresh turned on but it has gone up to 16 hours letting all sorts of robocalls through. I have to close the app and reopen it in order to get an updated list.
Hope this is fixed soon because when it works - it works great.
Buyer beware 1/5
I signed up for $1.99 a month with the option to cancel at anytime. They took out a full year and now I can’t get a prorated refund. Wish someone would contact me about a refund.
Not all callers are blocked.
good and bad 1/5
I paid for this service hardly blocks anything lets it ring I may be canceling if it keeps up. So far only blocked one number please tell me why i should use this and not the pernant one from my provider you let many numbers through. By the way i do have background app refresh on i just got 5 calls today this app does nothing. I also leave this on I paid for one montb but stil robo numbers get through i do update the list and I dont close the app what is the point if it wont even block or tell me its a robo.
Stopped subscription 1/5
By Capt. Gizmo
After trying it for about a year, I felt it just wasn’t worth it; especially considering that other apps, such as Hiya, seemed to do the job just as well...for free.
There’s not much point in paying them just to see your screen say “RoboCall” or “Telemarketer” with a cute red icon.
Doesn’t stop the robocalls 2/5
I installed the app and set it up.. it blocks some of the calls, but I still get a lot of calls that come in if they are using a local number. Unfortunately unlike the home phone, this one is not worth the monthly subscription yet.
Don’t waste your time 1/5
Doesn’t stop robot dialing and will not help if the are using the same first 3 digits as your number. Best part is they charge you for a free app without permission. I have been charged for at least 3 months subscriptions without my permission for a free app.
I don't mind paying for it! 5/5
I do like this app. It catches most of the telemarketing call and in the event that it's not been identified as such, there is an option to report the number as a telemarketer. There is also a text option for those pesky telemarketing texts. Between the Nomorobo and Block caller option on my iPhone, I hardly get annoying telemarketing calls and texts.
Works great for me 5/5
I was skeptical based on the other reviews and average rating, but this app has dramatically reduced or entirely eliminated robocalls coming to me. Was easy to install & set up. I highly recommend.
Good at filtering, not so good at design 3/5
Let’s be clear, for ~2$/month this app will stop about 90, 95% of spam callers.
It does what it claimed to. It can also block spam txts, tho I’ve haven’t really found that to be a problem, much less a problem that warrants letting this App have access to all the text of all my txts... creepy.
Where this app gals short is backgrounding. It literally needs to be updated every day! Which is terribly annoying. If you miss manual updates for more than two days it starts sending it’s own spam-like notifications to update the database.
I haven’t removed it because it works, but it’s a fine line. If any other app were this insistent for my attention I’d have removed it almost right away.
So yeah - does what it should, but it would be great if the devs could figure out how background data works. Seriously, get it together!
No clear information about sharing with family 1/5
I had to go to the developer’s website to find out adding my husband’s phone costs another $1.99 a month. Why does it state it can be shared with up to six family members, but not tell THAT?
Good app, bad pricing 3/5
The app does what it promises, yet $1.50/month. Is too much. Perhaps $.50. Would make more sense. I’m cancelling the app, I can live with the robo calls
Doubled their rates for subscriptions 2/5
By David O in Tacoma
First let me say this app absolutely works as advertised. It does a great job telling you about robocallers if it had them in their database.
However since signing up a year ago they doubled their rates and never notified me of the change. They’re not worth twice what I was paying. So - removed.
Changed my rating to 2 stars. 2/5
By Radar O'Reiley
I started using Nomorobo last year and it performed very well, BUT it is nearly impossible for anybody to keep up with the scammers out there because they create (steal is a better word, but actually “spoof” is the correct term) hundreds if not thousands of phone numbers from real people.
I’ve since found an app that (unlike Nomorobo) affords me to send the scoundrel caller to a fake “the number you are calling is no longer in use or has been disconnected. If you feel you have reached this number in error, please consult with directory assistance.”
I also benefit from a free app from my specific cell phone service company that is good at blocking scoundrels that slip past other apps.
The developer of Nomorobo needs to COMPLETELY stop informing me the call coming into my iPhone is a “scoundrel” and just kill and BLOCK the jerk, like newer apps are doing.
Hard to believe that I was excited about Nomorobo many months ago and now I consider it more like a 2002 Plymouth compared to a 2018 Corvette.
Updates Not Happening, No Tech Support 1/5
I signed up for Nomorobo on my Comcast landline phone account - it’s free - so I wanted to try the app for my iPhone 7, which I use with Comcast wireless service. Unfortunately, 24 hours after signing up for the two-week free trial, the hourly updates stopped. I checked all the phone settings and could not find anything wrong. I sent an email to the app tech support address asking for help. It’s been over a week, and I’ve not received an answer. Without updates and without any help to get the app working, it doesn’t make any sense for me to purchase the app after the trial period ends. I hope you have a better experience with Nomorobo than I did.
Doesn't catch all the scammers, but at least I feel like I'm doing something 4/5
Without doing a thorough review of my call history, I'd say that Nomorobo correctly identifies about half of the presumed robocalls I get. (I don't answer if I don't know the number, so I can only assume the random numbers that don't leave messages are robo calls).
The identified robo calls aren't blocked, but if I'm reading it right, identifying them as robo calls is the best the app can currently do.
The last robo call I got wasn't identified as a robo caller when my phone rang, but when I looked it up in nomorobo, it was marked as a robo caller (and after that the app correctly flagged the number in my phone).
Occasionally I get a legit robo call (like from my trash company) that gets flagged, but they leave messages, so it doesn't matter if I don't answer.
Even though this isn't the most effective app, I still like it and will continue to pay for it because I feel like reporting numbers is the only thing I can do to "get back" at the people setting these scams up. It's cathartic, if not tremendously effective.
I'd love to see a drop-down menu of choices for the "why are you reporting this number" instead of (or in addition to) the free-form text box. I would think that standardized answers would improve whatever analysis is going on behind the scenes, and people would be more likely to report numbers if they could tap once in a pre-filled reason instead of typing one out.
Diminishing returns 2/5
By A geologist in Florida
Ran this app for 6 months. It blocked a few calls in the first month or two. After that nothing. I suspect it is still too difficult for this app to keep up with the spam industry.
It's a good product 4/5
Works like it is supposed to
If I could get rid of one app, this is it! 1/5
I bought the yearly plan earlier this year. The app is really quite ineffective since people can spoof calls so there really is no way to block calls. For the more I run the app on an iPhone 6 Plus and the iOS keeps turning my blocking preferences off in the settings. Every week I have to go back to settings to turn the blocking back on. I've tried uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it and it doesn't help as iOS just does not work with this app.
I tried to get a refund for the unused months back but all I get from the company is a useless help page that tells me to uninstall and reinstall the app, so goodbye NomoRobo.
Waste of money. Blocks 1 in 10 calls !!! 1/5
I thought it worked well for the first few days and told a few people about this app. Seems it was just coincidence. Since then, the block rate has been low to negligible. When you report a block call (using the share functionality), the App shows the transcript of the robot voice text. So, if Nomorobo knows that it is spam, why does it allow it to come thru? Also, I don't get an update on what happens to the calls that I report, which would have been useful as it would show that so action is being taken... a great concept, addressing a real need, but poorly executed. Result - waste of money.
I bought the whole year and it worked well for about 2 weeks. Now it just stops working and has to be reinstalled. It’s very frustrating.
Sending the call to voicemail is not blocking 1/5
I work in the telecommunications industry. We have our landline customers sign up for this service all the time. Unfortunately not actually blocking the calls on my cellphone and directing them to voicemail is not what I am signing up for. I started my free trial today. I canceled my subscription immediately and deleted the app. I filed a complaint with the FCC. My only option is to change my number.
Still getting spam calls... 2/5
By F. Underwood
Frequency of these calls hasn’t changed much at all since downloading. This app needs to be revamped and made to be much more powerful.
Went from great to awful 2/5
I was so hyped when Nomorobo came to iPhone. At first, it did really well, but has rapidly declined. Last month, it blocked only 10% of robocalls, and my phone rings all day. I finally discontinued and deleted it.
This app is WORTHLESS 1/5
This will not stop a single robocall coming into my phone. Robocallers use spoofing now and obviously this doesn’t do anything to stop them. Do not waste money on a subscription because it’s not going to work.
Don’t waste your money...... 1/5
Tried this for the free one month trial. Flagged but didn’t block any robo calls. All were flagged as unblockable.
Buggy spam database update 2/5
Using iPhone 6 with iOS 11. App worked fine for a while. When I got a message that database was out of date, attempted to update spam database, nothing happened. Deleted app and reinstalled, and it worked for a while. Then it stopped working again. Deleted app and canceled subscription. I’m now trying Robokiller.
Life is better with this app 5/5
By Jon Buddy
If you hate robo calls as much as me, this is your app. I’m not sure why the star rating is low but I have had no issues. Occasionally a new call will come in, but after reporting the number I never receive the call again. Highly recommend this over the free apps.
Not perfect but close! But..... 3/5
Updating this because every time I get an IOS update, it doesn’t work. Have to tweak or reload. I do like the app, when it works, but will eventually get tired of it not keeping up and I’ll drop it. The comments below still apply.
Probably should be a 4.5 because sometimes I will still get a few calls; however, compared to the 5+ telemarketer calls I use to get everyday ( one day I counted 11), it's heaven. Definitely worth the monthly fee.
big disappointment 2/5
Sadly and strangely, this seemed to work for a couple of weeks, and then something happened -- and I started getting MORE robocalls than I was getting before (I now get 6-7 a day!) and Nomorob does nothing at all. As I dutifully and stupidly "share the contact" of each call to NMRB, I feel like such a fool — I am doing more for them than they are for me!
Not actually a call blocker 2/5
First, I think saying this a "call-blocking" app is a little misleading since the app itself admits it can't block calls due to "technical limitations"- it can only send calls to voicemail.
I installed NoMoRobo thinking it would be the best protection against unwanted telemarketing calls, but unfortunately, I can't recommend it.
I installed Mr Number about 2 months ago and it does a very good job of identifying robo-calls and junk calls. But I wanted something stronger, which would block the call completely, so I installed NoMoRobo. Since NoMoRobo is a paid-subscription app and Mr Number is free, I assumed the paid-app would do a better job.
Here's what happened after I installed it on 11/13:
Day 1: 11/14: no robo-calls
11/15: 2 robo-calls which weren't labelled robo-calls; when I looked them up in NoMoRobo, they were labeled as "not reported", but when I looked them up in Mr Number, they *were* labeled as robo-calls.
11/16: no robo-calls
11/17: 3 calls: 2 which were labeled as robo-calls, but the phone app didn't turn red and offer the option to swipe to report; 1 robo-call went straight to voicemail without a warning
11/18 and 11/19: robo-calls don't seem to call on the weekend
11/20: no robo-calls. However, I called GoDaddy (a website hosting company) for information about websites and NoMoRobo labelled their number as a political robo caller. So this is a false positive.
11/21: no robo-calls
So out of 6 unknown numbers, 4 were not labeled robo-calls, 1 went to voicemail and 1 false positive.
I don't understand how Mr Number (a free app) can identify robo-calls but NoMoRobo (a paid-subscription app) doesn't. I hate to sound blunt, but I'm finding it hard to justify paying for a call-identifier service when a free app seems to be doing a better job.
Generally Good But Refresh Not Working Consistently 3/5
I’ve used Nomorobo for a year and it has been quite effective, but for the past couple of months the app has increasingly not been updating consistently in the background and has required a restart or deletion and reinstallation. When it’s working properly, it is great. I hope the issues get ironed out soon.
I had high hopes to finally beat all these robocallers, but after my 2 week trial, it is only catching about one out of five calls. I've followed all the advise to keep the app running, but it just isn't identifying calls. With as many numbers that I've reported, I feel nomorobo should be paying *me* to keep their list updated. Sadly will be deleting :(
Blocks Less Than 10% Of Spam Calls 2/5
After a few months of subscribing I can say that this App really doesn’t work. Looking back at a few months’ worth of call logs, I see Nomorobo only successfully blocked a handful of incoming spam calls, compared to the 50+ I received. Doing the math it looks to be less than 10% effective. I keep the product running in the background as necessary, and I keep it updated, and it simply doesn’t block enough calls to make up for the $3/month subscription. I’ve been diligently reporting the spam calls that “got through”, so maybe I’m helping someone, somewhere, but for me the product isn’t doing squat.
My phone rings with spam calls at least once a day and it’s aggravating to know that a product I’m paying for doesn’t seem to do anything about blocking them. I’m cancelling.
Background refresh still doesn't work 3/5
After upgrading to iOS 11.1.2, it appears that the background refresh is working again. Now I only wish that the mobile app worked like their VOIP product in that it junk the spam calls. Unfortunately the mobile app seems to letb the phone ring (albeit says it's a robocaller) and puts the call to voicemail. I'd prefer a solution that just drops the call so I didn't waste time looking at the caller-id. So I'm giving it an upgraded 3 stars. If they can implement a way to just drop the call it'll get 5 stars.
Generally Happy 5/5
By Purple Ranger10
Most of the robocalls have been successfully blocked. I’ve noticed that with the latest update it uses a lot more of my battery than it used to, up from 1% a day to about 5% a day. It’s not a dealbreaker, but every percent counts when charging isn’t always an option during the day.
Not Working 1/5
By The Real Estate Guy
At this rate, I will be cancelling during my free trial period!! Downloaded the app this weekend and have received spam calls without being identified. I’ve had to go to the app and look them up! Might as well use the free Truecaller app I was using!!
Please cancel, I did not realize I was paying every month. Thank you
Does not complete installation 1/5
The call blocking option for the app doesn’t show under settings, even after hours.
Useless, don’t waste your money 1/5
This app is completely useless. I had to manually enter every robocall number into their database. Then what’s the point? And what’s the point of sending robocalls to voicemail? That’s what they do anyway!
I’m just not answering calls if I don’t recognize the number, which is what I was doing before I tried the app, and it works much better for me since it doesn’t waste my time like the app does.
Users are doing the work and still dealing with robocall voicemails but paying for a piece of software? Not me!!!
Blocked my wife’s calls 1/5
This app blocked incoming calls from my wife’s iPhone and stopped outgoing calls to my brother. Other callers thought I must have been out of town and left messages that I never received. Once I uninstalled NomoRobo and restarted my iPhone, all is working again! Saved my marriage. Don’t risk yours by letting this app hang up on your incoming calls or stop outgoing calls.
