PulsePoint App

PulsePoint empowers individuals, within covered communities, with the ability to provide life-saving assistance to victims of cardiac arrest. Application users who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) are notified if someone nearby is having a cardiac emergency and may require CPR. If the medical emergency is in a public place, the application uses sophisticated location-based services to alert trained citizens in the immediate vicinity of the need for CPR. The application also directs these citizen rescuers to the exact location of the closest public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED). PulsePoint currently provides coverage for hundreds of cities and communities, with many more on the way. The PulsePoint app is a virtual window into these 911 communication centers and provides real-time access to emergency activity as it is occurring. Users can view incidents - including the current response status of dispatched units - and instantly pinpoint the location on an interactive map. Curious as to where that fire engine or ambulance that just passed is headed? Is there an accident up ahead causing this traffic tie-up? Just tap the application to quickly find the incident location or plan an alternate route. Additionally, users can choose to receive incident notifications when they are dispatched and listen in on live emergency radio traffic via this modern version of the traditional fire scanner. A photo gallery of significant events along with other agency images and information can also be easily accessed. Would you like to see PulsePoint supported in your community? All that is required on the local level is the initiative to get started. Bring PulsePoint to the attention of your local fire department, city council, or emergency response agency and tell them you would like them to see PulsePoint helping to save lives in your community. Original development of the PulsePoint app was the result of a successful partnership between the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District (CA) and the College of Informatics at Northern Kentucky University in 2009. In 2011 the PulsePoint Foundation was formed “to share its life saving potential.” Today all engineering is provided by skilled volunteers from Workday, Inc. For more information, visit our web site at www.pulsepoint.org or contact us at info@pulsepoint.org. NOTE: Configuration of this app includes the capability for continuous GPS monitoring. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

PulsePoint app reviews

  • Great app - and a suggestion 5/5

    By Gabriel McGowan
This app is terrific! It works very well, and as a CPR certified citizen, I really appreciate the opportunity to help when emergency resuscitation is needed. Just one suggestion: I would love to be able to customize the alerts that I receive by agency. There are some agencies that I want to see all alerts from, and then there are other agencies that I just want to see certain types of alerts, like structure fires. Wish I could customize that.
  • Works sometimes 4/5

    By Thigh disheveled
Works great, when it works. Sometimes I’ll get a notification for a structure fire, I’ll click on it and open the app, and the call is not in the drop down menu. Also sometimes there are calls for fires in the app, that I don’t get notified for. Other than that, not a bad app
  • First place I check 5/5

  • Help is on the Way 5/5

Great app for finding detailed information on emergencies taking place in my local community. Really helps me as an emergency first responder to maintain awareness of new and evolving incidents.
  • Awesome 5/5

    By HairNation in Delaware
Instantly alerts you when something is happening in your area.
  • Pulse point 4/5

    By Curmdgn
Nice to have the alert. It's ahead of the dispatch, so I flip over to scanner app to hear the details.
  • Cool App! 4/5

    By Tulsacowboy
I am enjoying this app especially seeing which engine or squad is doing. If it allows me to help someone in the future then it is all worth the download.
  • Excellent app and purpose, but very inconsistent with alerts 4/5

    By msdosnt
I want to say alerts work most of the time, but they don't. It has its days where most alerts happen, but usually it's about 40-75% of alerts happen. I know this because you can open it, look and compare that to the alerts your device has for it. I have it on my iPhone and iPad and they both have exactly the same problem and 100% of the same alerts and missed alerts, so it's the app. Some suggested improvements: Fix the alerts problem, it's a serious core issue for its purpose! Support for landscape view on iPad! iPhone not a big deal but on iPad it's very frustrating to always have to flip it around. Increase the real estate for an incident alert showing unit/incident status info. Memorizing the color legend is hard because a few are not that distinct! Going to the legend when you need it is many clicks away. If real estate is an issue, put a clickable link to the legend on the incident info that pops up to the side so you can reference it. The active/recent alert listview on the home page for an agency: let users decide whether to list all their agencies or singular, or choose which ones. Hard to get the single pain of glass view by switching agency by agency. Busy agencies/areas would be too much, but let the user decide what's best for them. If an alert does not have address/map information it's pretty much useless unless maybe you have 1 or 2 units in your entire agency. Let users choose the sound for alerts

I only use this to see where my local FD gets dispatched. I like listening to the calls as well. Good app, works well.
  • Highly recommend 4/5

    By s.love
I'm telling all my coworkers, friends, and family about this app now. I was able to respond to a notification that someone nearby needed CPR, and I arrived on scene to do so (successfully, too! Yay!). The only suggestion I have is that when the address for the event shows, there should be an option to pull up that address in a maps application to navigate. I had to punch the address in on a separate app and fumbled it pretty good since I was nervous, but having this feature would have made this a 5-star rating.
  • Very helpful 5/5

Great tool for first responders, anyone living in fire prone areas.
  • Good but not great 4/5

    By Srfnff
Offers basic info. Very prompt and timely. Useful for avoiding TC locations. More in depth info and updates would make it great.

My son is a firefighter this app helps me to see the types of calls he is experiencing.
  • Could use improvements 4/5

    By PdxFireExplorer
I love this app as I have been a firefighter Cadet in my area and have previously been a cadet with my county sheriffs office search and rescue team. Wish this app worked better. I know that at one point I use to be able to listen to Portland Oregon fire rescue. The department I use to work along side as a cadet and now can't hear the dispatches. Unsure if it's because of the app no longer providing the dispatch or BOEC there dispatch center. I hate having to go to radioreference to get the dispatch also don't get a lot of the dispatches overheard on my scanner showing up in this app. Also downside would be nice if could implement a way to see Police response as well.
  • Notifications for medical emergencies 3/5

    By Dahliafemme
It's kinda stupid for an app used to give help in a medical emergency to not have the option of notifying you of a medical emergency. Like will it even notify me if I need to give CPR??
  • Great app 5/5

    By Midnight Magic
Love this app, it keeps me up to date on what is going on in my community and since I am certified in CPR if the need arises I can arrive on a scene and help with life sustaining service's.
  • I love this app! 4/5

    By Anvimm
This app rocks! It's essential for the work I do, and I rely on it more than I'd like to admit. That being said, the app gets wonkey at times and it can't find my location. I'm almost always in very populated areas or connected to a MiFi. My alerts also don't work. I took it to AT&T to see if they could figure it out but they were unable to find the problem. Every other alert FB, google, twitter and so on pops up, so I know it's not the phone. Anyway, when this app works, it's a life saver...literally!
  • ATL SW 1/5

  • Great app 4/5

    By Swimgirlz200
I love this app being employed in EMS it lets me know what's happening not only with my co workers but in my community as well. I have it a 4 because it goes down a lot and also a lot of the medical calls don't show or alert I wish medical calls alerted on my phone as well. Also it does go down a lot I know it is dependent on the dispatching systems for the areas. Over all very happy would even pay for the app if it offered some different options
  • Love this app! 4/5

    By Proudmamaerica
This app is so helpful to have. If I see fire trucks or ambulance go by, I just check the app and it tells me what the issue is and where. I only gave 4 stars because I think that under all the agencies I follow I should be able to get alerted to everything. Not just structure fires and car accidents etc. but medical emergencies, investigations, all of it. If it's listed in my feed I want an alert. Also, sometimes I get alerted and sometimes I'll go days without an alert (even though I have everything checked to receive alert). I think I have to have the app open to receive the alert and I wish I could be alerted even if app isn't running. Other than those two complaints, I really do like the app and find it an app everyone should have. I also (though I don't use it) love the cpr feature for those that are certified and want to help!
  • Great 5/5

Will the app work in time for the solar eclipse?
  • Would be 5/5 if notifications included all types 3/5

    By CVP0
There are no notifications for medical events. Not sure why that was something that was left out but per staff they will add this in later releases. But this kind of alert is why I downloaded the app. Will be 5/5 when this is added.
  • Great app to have! 5/5

    By muffinmanaz
