Sports Illustrated Magazine app reviews

  • Ready to cancel my subscription 1/5

    By Buffalo Badger
This app is terrible. Every time you open it, it tells you to subscribe or buy issues, even though you are logged in. Some issues show up as locked, apparently at random. If you download issues and then go to airplane mode, the app says you don't have any downloaded issues. It takes FOREVER to scroll through back issues. When you do scroll to old issues, some are missing, and again others show a lock.
  • New App Is Disastrous 1/5

    By QuickTake 100
Waited some time to see if there might be some improvements, but this current version is a huge step backwards: past issues have to be re-downloaded, navigation is poor, and for some reason some past swimsuit issues are not available any longer even though they’ve been purchased previously.
  • Worst iPad app 1/5

    By Chisox1917
Kudos to SI. Rarely do you see any company take a great app, and thru updates, turn it into pure garbage. This is the slowest app I've ever used. It takes forever just to open. Once in the app, it responds and moves slower than a glacier. God help you if you accidentally swipe the wrong way on a page. It takes a full minute to load some other part of the app. Good luck if you try sending SI an email from the app to complain. SI obviously is phasing out the weekly magazine. Total disregard of their readers. I'm a +35 year subscriber. So disappointing
  • Newsstand? Updated to Horrible 1/5

    By buenospot
Wish that your app would show up in my newsstand. I also wish that it were easier to figure out how to bring up the control panel at the bottom. I tried double-tap, single-tap in center, two finger swipe up, etc. I eventually just tried tapping down there. Also, had lots of trouble restoring purchases. Had to delete app and reinstall. Update below: Like other reviewers, I don’t usually take the time to write a review but this app is terrible. It’s slow on one of the latest iPads, I cannot easily find the issues that I do own, and I even feel like the quality of the pages are actually lower.
  • Lost Swimsuit Editions 1/5

    By Alex1925
This latest upgrade lost all my Swimsuits Edition and I am unable to get them back.
  • Poor Design 1/5

    By Minico61
Having subscribed to SI for nearly 50 years, I expect an online magazine similar to the printed version, only getting to me quicker. This gets to me quicker, but there the similarities end. SI must think I’m brain dead with so much video & so little print. I guess great writers like Frank Deford, Rick Riley, & Dan Jenkins will never again be developed at SI. It’s sad seeing a once great magazine working its way into the dustbin of journalism.
  • Terrible Update 1/5

    By RR55
Lost all video links, lost all previously purchased issues, lost all swimsuit issues... terrible to navigate. Does not allow you to keep in an easily accessible library the issues purchased or downloaded. So much potential... but instead of getting better, each year it gets worse. No longer a subscription holder. Takes up too much time and energy to be a subscriber or buy individual issues particularly when the functionality you purchased is lost when updated👎👎👎👎👎.
  • Update is terrible 1/5

    By astro.dave
Lost lots of functionality... can no longer find purchased issues after restoring.
  • What in the world have you done? 1/5

    By tarheeltattler
What is the deal with magazine publishers and their thinking about their product digitally? You certainly have managed to significantly downgrade your product with this upgrade. This is on a computer for crying out loud. You have rendered this app less useful than having all the print issues os SI stacked by my bed. Fix it. Restore purchases. Allow searching or filtering etc
  • Sloooooooooow 1/5

    By awesome mr.883
This is the worst app. so bad that when my subscription expires i will not renew.
  • Why? 1/5

    By James Sonny Crockett
A great ruined. Glitchy as hell.
  • A (bad) joke 1/5

    By majerDomo
OMG, this app's awfulness defies description. I'm not wasting any additional time detailing its soup to nuts worthlessness...but who's ever in charge of this should be fired. Yesterday.
  • Completely broken experience 1/5

    By helixmochi
New update: no change to the review - app is as slow and cumbersome as before. Update: no change to the review - app is as terrible as before. Trying to scroll through the issues is very, very painfully slow. Heaven forbid you accidentally click into a specific magazine while scrolling, because you have to start over again from the beginning. Loading time for the thumbnails are horrific. As you go through an issue, the pictures are loaded and rendered in squares, which takes a long time. When it is finally done, the quality is not nearly as good as it used to be. No search function for issue. Complete waste of time - I was going to renew, but not a chance after this update.
  • Bring back landscape 2/5

    By Straightlake
Today is November 15. I have not been able to download and read the November 13 issue which was out last week. I rebooted my iPad, and rebooted the SI app. No luck; it still wants to offer me “locked up” portions of the issue. Of all magazine subscriptions I have not one has given me the problems that SI continues to do.
  • Downloaded editions lost 1/5

    By Prefer the Simple Life
I travel a lot so downloaded a couple of editions to read on airplane. Green check appears and said downloaded. Get on airplane mode and go to downloaded issues and it says “no issues downloaded. Also can’t scroll to downloaded issues easily while on line. When reading an older issue and done to go “back.” It takes you to the current issue instead of the year and month you were looking so have the slow and painful process to get to older issues. Slow, unresponsive and cumbersome. Took a good app and made it awful. Will cancel subscription if not fixed.
  • Bad, bad and very bad! 1/5

    By Ardethomas
This has been an incredibly bad app update. All purchased issues are lost and do not appear on issues menu!
  • Please update app 2/5

    By tmgelsinger
The new version of the app makes it nearly impossible to access past issues. It only loads images of the few recent issues and it takes a long time to load any additional prior issues.
  • Zero stars for this worthless app update, not 1 1/5

    By Somebodyelse2011
I've read a lot of the reviews below about the updated app. I can only say I agree with all of them. SI took a useful app and utterly destroyed it. Cannot access issues I paid for. The thing I wonder is: Does anyone actually read these reviews? Because whoever approved this piece of garbage app ought to be fired. FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Ruined, useless app 1/5

SI took a functional, readable app version of its magazine and turned it into a complete and frustrating waste of time. I download issues and then get a message that it can't be read because I'm offline. I try to pinch and zoom so the type is more readable and the pages shake and snap back to previous pages. This app is a terrible reflection on the magazine and the app developers need to fix this ASAP.
  • Went from good app to garbage with one update. 1/5

    By Trilogy 03
Print subscriber for over 20 years. Previous app versions were fine. Fast scroll for past issues. All past issues available and no extra charges. Filter to get directly to any issues I kept downloaded. When moving in to and back out of past issues it kept you at the issue you just came out of. Now has to reload, from the most current issue, every time you go into the issues area. Now 1 issue per month (Or more) is missing in the archives and some are locked and asking me to pay for something I have already paid for. Now no filter to get to any issues I have kept downloaded so have to scroll through the now agonizingly slow area from the top. Now agonizingly sssslllllooooowwwwww scroll of past issues while they load for the top. Short version is this is a garbage app now. Not an update just a fail. If this is how this stays I will not be renewing my subscription.
  • Doesn’t see downloaded issues 1/5

    By Red Sox Fan 07
    This update is awful
  • Worst app ever 1/5

    By Disports
If I could rate this app less than one star, I would, it is the worst app ever. Nothing was wrong with their previous app and it worked. Nothing about this app works. It doesn’t save the downloaded issues, it doesn’t recognize me as a subscriber, it forces me to sign in and out. Nothing works. It doesn’t even save the point of the magazine where you were when you leave and come back.
  • Terrible “update” 1/5

The other comments list all the defects. I cannot believe SI released this app and called it an update. The thing I miss the most is downloaded issues don’t always appear when offline. I travel a lot so that is a BIG issues to me Also, many issues don’t show up in the scroll of issues, especially March madness issues are missing for me
  • Not renewing this subscription 1/5

    By libvet
When my current subscription expires, that’s it for me. First they took away landscape viewing. That would allow you to see two-page pictures in a single window. Then they took away the automatic formatting to fit your screen. This was great on my iPad mini because everything was still readable. Not any more! The hyperlinks are gone, all my back (saved) issues are gone, and in a few weeks I’ll be gone, too.
  • How hard is it to remember what page I’m on 1/5

    By bamaks
SI seems to get progressively worse with each update. The one functionality I expect from am e-zine is to be able to remember what page I'm on. Every time I open the SI app, I’m on the cover page of the issue. Worse magazine app I’ve ever used. Also constantly asked me to subscribe, despite the fact I’ve had a subscription for 25+ years.
  • SI Listens, then they go and break things 1/5

    By monitorboy
I’m not a regular reader or subscriber, so I buy just the issues I want to read. The latest update shows every issue, there is no way to separate my purchases from the rest so I have to scroll down to find the handful that I’ve previously purchased. Very inconvenient. It seems like every now and then, the developer gets it right, then goes in and breaks the app for no apparent reason.
  • Soooooo Slooooow 1/5

    By rparrish
Another good app rendered useless due to corporate overthink. Change does not equal improvement. Just another subscription to cancel. Print media is killing itself with stupid decisions.
  • Not reliable or user friendly 2/5

    By sooner ron
Digital version of Magazine has gotten worse with each attempted upgrade. I have been a subscriber to the hard copy magazine for over 50 years and of the digital version since it was first offered, but the product is steadily going downhill.
  • Horrible 1/5

    By ummmmm258
Took a product and ‘updated’ it to remove functionality and usability. Where is the filter? Was looking for older issues and it is so painfully slow!! Older issues are reduced to low res PDFs. All the beautiful photographs and rich content is gone. Looks like an intern made copies of old magazines on a color copier!
  • App has Degraded 1/5

    By Cashion Family
Latest version is horrible - won’t renew subscription. Been a SI subscriber for 20 years. Print too small and too much effort to zoom in every page. Photos, once one of the hallmarks of SI, are fuzzy and look photocopied. Hard to navigate, why can’t I go straight to a story instead of paging through. Bummer.
  • Way worse than previous version!!! 1/5

    By bobmein
Unbelievably pathetic update to the SI app! I understand that they wanted to go to a universal version, but they have removed functionality!!! WAY too slow to load now. No way to filter for issues you actually own. You must re-download all your issues. What were they thinking here? Terrible, terrible, terrible.
  • Horrible update 1/5

    By Rambo 3
Would give zero stars if I could. Downloaded issues aren't available offline. Prior saved issues are gone. Quality of images and type is bad. Unstable viewing where zoomed content suddenly in-zooms. I never give ratings but this is so bad I had to. Go back to old app and restore my saved issues !!!!!!
  • So much for approve meant 1/5

    By Jerzey Don
Here is an example of not updating an application. The previous versions of Sports Illustrated and Time were a pleasure to read on my iPad. The newest version's print is difficult to read unless you expand the screen manually. I ask my self as my subscription nears its end date why would I renew (and pay more) to include a digital version? The answer obviously is no.
  • Worse than a Cleveland Browns draft pick 1/5

    By Dpcanucks1
This new version of the app is bad... all my old issues disappeared. It is hard to navigate and impossible to read the magazine. A huge step back for SI.
  • Horrible 1/5

    By WCMW
I have been a SI subscriber for years and have greatly enjoyed the digital edition. Usually when you get an “update” to an iPad app you anticipate an improvement and upgrade. This latest “update” is actually a horrible downgrade. All my previously downloaded editions are now gone. The “new” pdf magazines are difficult to read. All of the things that made Si digital a class act are now gone. Who in corporate made this decision?
  • A Huge Step Backwards 1/5

    By Toppsgrrl
This version is simply awful. It looks like JPGs of the original issues. It’s impossible to read most articles. I have no idea what they are thinking. This is the app equivalent of taking CC Sabathia out of the game with a five run lead, and then not challenging an awful hit by pitch call.
  • New update 2/5

    By Nickname kyle
It seems that all Time apps got a recent update by either switching app developers or in-house team made some poor UI/UX changes. Not a good experience at all and even though I’m signed in, I still get a big button to “SUBSCRIBE TO [fill in Time company magazine]” Images are bad, type is small and overall navigation is not intuitive
  • Awful 1/5

    By Melky9799
Terrible update. Lost functionality, slow to download, poor navigation. Plus all prior issues were deleted with the update. Really poor execution SI. Adding: downloaded several issues and none were available offline. Magically available when back online. These are basics, why would you release such a poor app?! Totally ruining my SI subscription 10/6 update: App deleted my downloaded issues again, so nothing to read on the flight. Despite the developer’s statement that they are working on things, there are still no updates or fixes
  • Does not work offline 1/5

    By BannerPilot
Can only access latest issue when offline, even though I have older issues downloaded I can not access them. Horrible update.
  • Terrible 1/5

    By Xbar508
This new app is terrible! Terrible! Slow-to-no response when attempting to move around tabs. When commenting or seeking "help", you receive a moronic response that doesn't seriously acknowledge your issue. The update is a huge reverse.
  • Terrible update! 1/5

    By Santito515
Please let me get the previous version, this app does not work as it should.
  • Terrible new app 2/5

    By MMSCooks
This new app is terrible. Takes forever to load
  • Update is Awful 1/5

    By Johnwao
I don't know what their intent was but if it was to make this app worse than mission accomplished. The app is slooooow. And there is no way to go to just issues you purchased. If you use this app you better have a LOT of free time and PATIENCE on your hands.
  • Update is horrible 2/5

    By touyb23
Slow to render and swiping is not as responsive. I like the previous version.
  • Feedback 1/5

    By Dishondc
I never feel inclined to write a review, good or bad, but this update is troublesome. The performance is awful with the new 33.0.0 update (9/27), from opening the app, to moving between the different tabs, to scrolling through the magazine thumbnails. It's absolutely painful. Also, the magazine content now looks like they are scanned in images. They are blurry and are dark in color, and slow to render. The last version previous to this one, I had none of these issues. I fully support SI and this review is only an attempt to provide feedback to help better the app. I understand the need to update to provide a better experience, but at least for me, this is a huge step backwards.
  • No landscape mode 4/5

    By TinCup434
Love the electronic version but there is still no landscape mode. I would have given five stars but for this.
  • Very good sports app 5/5

    By fattalipoddesktop
    Love it.
  • Need landscape 3/5

    By fletchshaw
The app needs landscape orientation for use with bigger pads.
  • Horrible 1/5

    By Chase Caron
I cant even download the app. I used to have it but I deleted it because of storage. I want to download it back now but I can't. Whenever I hit the download button it loads and it goes back to the download button like it never happened. Somebody please help
  • Don't waste ur time 1/5

    By Frustrated xxyyjj
Made me go in circle by requiring me to sign up three times. Wasted over half our and still not signed up according to SI. LOL. Don't waste your time.
