Horrible update 1/5
By Rambo 3
Would give zero stars if I could. Downloaded issues aren't available offline. Prior saved issues are gone. Quality of images and type is bad. Unstable viewing where zoomed content suddenly in-zooms. I never give ratings but this is so bad I had to. Go back to old app and restore my saved issues !!!!!!
So much for approve meant 1/5
By Jerzey Don
Here is an example of not updating an application. The previous versions of Sports Illustrated and Time were a pleasure to read on my iPad. The newest version's print is difficult to read unless you expand the screen manually. I ask my self as my subscription nears its end date why would I renew (and pay more) to include a digital version? The answer obviously is no.
Worse than a Cleveland Browns draft pick 1/5
This new version of the app is bad... all my old issues disappeared. It is hard to navigate and impossible to read the magazine. A huge step back for SI.
I have been a SI subscriber for years and have greatly enjoyed the digital edition. Usually when you get an “update” to an iPad app you anticipate an improvement and upgrade. This latest “update” is actually a horrible downgrade. All my previously downloaded editions are now gone. The “new” pdf magazines are difficult to read. All of the things that made Si digital a class act are now gone. Who in corporate made this decision?
Completely broken experience 1/5
Update: no change to the review - app is as terrible as before.
Trying to scroll through the issues is very, very painfully slow. Heaven forbid you accidentally click into a specific magazine while scrolling, because you have to start over again from the beginning. Loading time for the thumbnails are horrific.
As you go through an issue, the pictures are loaded and rendered in squares, which takes a long time. When it is finally done, the quality is not nearly as good as it used to be.
No search function for issue.
Complete waste of time - I was going to renew, but not a chance after this update.
A Huge Step Backwards 1/5
This version is simply awful. It looks like JPGs of the original issues. It’s impossible to read most articles. I have no idea what they are thinking. This is the app equivalent of taking CC Sabathia out of the game with a five run lead, and then not challenging an awful hit by pitch call.
New update 2/5
By Nickname kyle
It seems that all Time apps got a recent update by either switching app developers or in-house team made some poor UI/UX changes. Not a good experience at all and even though I’m signed in, I still get a big button to “SUBSCRIBE TO [fill in Time company magazine]”
Images are bad, type is small and overall navigation is not intuitive
Terrible update. Lost functionality, slow to download, poor navigation. Plus all prior issues were deleted with the update. Really poor execution SI.
Adding: downloaded several issues and none were available offline. Magically available when back online. These are basics, why would you release such a poor app?! Totally ruining my SI subscription
10/6 update: App deleted my downloaded issues again, so nothing to read on the flight. Despite the developer’s statement that they are working on things, there are still no updates or fixes
Downloaded editions lost 1/5
By Prefer the Simple Life
I travel a lot so downloaded a couple of editions to read on airplane. Green check appears and said downloaded. Get on airplane mode and go to downloaded issues and it says “no issues downloaded. Also can’t scroll to downloaded issues easily while on line. When reading an older issue and done to go “back.” It takes you to the current issue instead of the year and month you were looking so have the slow and painful process to get to older issues. Slow, unresponsive and cumbersome. Took a good app and made it awful.
Does not work offline 1/5
Can only access latest issue when offline, even though I have older issues downloaded I can not access them. Horrible update.
This new app is terrible! Terrible! Slow-to-no response when attempting to move around tabs. When commenting or seeking "help", you receive a moronic response that doesn't seriously acknowledge your issue. The update is a huge step...in reverse.
Terrible update! 1/5
Please let me get the previous version, this app does not work as it should.
Terrible new app 2/5
This new app is terrible. Takes forever to load
Update is Awful 1/5
I don't know what their intent was but if it was to make this app worse than mission accomplished. The app is slooooow. And there is no way to go to just issues you purchased. If you use this app you better have a LOT of free time and PATIENCE on your hands.
Update is terrible 1/5
Lost lots of functionality...
Update is horrible 2/5
Slow to render and swiping is not as responsive. I like the previous version.
I never feel inclined to write a review, good or bad, but this update is troublesome. The performance is awful with the new 33.0.0 update (9/27), from opening the app, to moving between the different tabs, to scrolling through the magazine thumbnails. It's absolutely painful. Also, the magazine content now looks like they are scanned in images. They are blurry and are dark in color, and slow to render. The last version previous to this one, I had none of these issues. I fully support SI and this review is only an attempt to provide feedback to help better the app. I understand the need to update to provide a better experience, but at least for me, this is a huge step backwards.
No landscape mode 4/5
Love the electronic version but there is still no landscape mode. I would have given five stars but for this.
Very good sports app 5/5
Need landscape 3/5
The app needs landscape orientation for use with bigger pads.
By Chase Caron
I cant even download the app. I used to have it but I deleted it because of storage. I want to download it back now but I can't. Whenever I hit the download button it loads and it goes back to the download button like it never happened. Somebody please help
Don't waste ur time 1/5
By Frustrated xxyyjj
Made me go in circle by requiring me to sign up three times. Wasted over half our and still not signed up according to SI. LOL. Don't waste your time.
why can't i switch to landscape mode? 2/5
By Cx lover
It is ridiculous that I cannot view your two page photo spreads on one screen on my iPad by flipping my iPad into landscape mode. Please remedy this.
Does not work well with iTunes frequent login failures, customer service rude and unhelpful
Changes for the worse. No videos , small print , no extras , etc. I have been getting SI since 1964 ; a shame this will be my last year.
Why have you killed your SI app 1/5
In few days my subscription will be expiring. I have subscribed for most part since the 70's. Then I purchased an iPad and loved the SI app for reading weekly issues with extra features. Now like my Automobile mag the App is a re-print of a magazine. I have received countless mail offers to renew with free cheap swag! If you really want me go back the old App.
You have lowered the user experience, Bye Bye!
Good idea bad exicution 2/5
The app allows one to enlarge a part and only a part of an article or picture.
SI ditches digital 1/5
By Joker the red
So it's just a PDF file. I'm clicking on the word "videos" like a moron only to then notice it is just telling you to visit their website. Yeah, no kidding, SI. I did that just before dropping ten bucks on this redundant nonsense.
Pointless and in no way worth your money.
Do Not Like the New Format 2/5
This app has changed, no longer has extra features or videos, and the font is now tiny. It's essentially reading a PDF copy of the magazine. Interactivity is no more. Will probably cancel my subscription if the app remains the same.
Hard to imagine a more regressive "update." 1/5
This update is a joke. No more hyper links on the table of contents. No more digital extras. No more page progress notes. Absurdly small print. No more scrolling articles. Oh but they did manage to keep the annual objectification of women all while playing every conceivable elitist angle to convey the image of "concerned voice. Bye bye SI!
Swimsuit issues Great!!! 5/5
Excellent setup. Wish I could get this format on my iPhone. So much better then the "SI swimsuit " app for iPhone!!!
What a Ripoff 1/5
By omar easy
SI ruined the app by scaling back the digital content and changing the print to essentially a PDF of the magazine. Terrible. More proof that SI doesn't get it and is on the way out.
Small print difficult to read 1/5
By The AJW
Both Time and Sports Illustrated have become more difficult to read. There is no landscape support, and you can't remain in zoom mode. The text looks like it is in 1 pt. font. Not an improvement by any means.
BOLDER, BIGGER PRINT PLEASE !' 2/5
I have written to Time mag editor about Time Mag and never even got a reply. Small, horrid page color to print color is equally a problem. Get smart Time, or lose customers from Time, Sports Illustrated and other Time, Inc. Mags. As time goes on there are going to be more and more of us who are visually challenged and we have been your most loyal customers for decades!!
Bring back landscape 2/5
I join with others in bemoaning the latest update. I used to read SI in landscape mode and it was very manageable on a table. Now I have to prop up my iPad. Keep working on it, programmers, you haven't brought out a version that fits all.
Why the small print? 3/5
I am a long time print subscriber and user of the digital app for several years. I suspect that many of Sports Illustrated's readers, including the digital app, are, like me, over 50. Yet recent updates to both the SI app and the Time app have switched to using very small print. One of the advantages of both apps has always been that they were easier to read. That is less true today. Please consider going back to the earlier format with larger fonts.
SI has castrated this app 1/5
By Unhappy Mike 44
While every other periodical works on providing an enhanced digital experience the dinosaurs at SI have chosen to take a huge step backward. I'll be cancelling my subscription.
Getting worse 1/5
This used to be a great app with extra digital features and such. Now you can't easily see your purchased issues, instead you have to view an endless library of issues that you may not even want to purchase. Totally lame.
Sports illustrated 1/5
Unbelievable. They changed from a perfectly good app to a worthless, unreadable non-digital version. No choice but to let the subscription expire.
New version weak 1/5
It makes no sense why they reverted away from an iPad friendly version. The carbon copy version of the print defeats the purpose of the iPad version. It's difficult to read and the interface is awful with the inability to skip articles with the tap of a button. Terrible decision.
Horrific update to what was a great app!!! 1/5
I thought I was an idiot when I went to read the latest issue of SI on my iPad and couldn't figure out how to change the new tiny font. After looking for a half hour I figured out the formatting had been changed to mirror the magazine with unreadable, unadjustble font. You can zoom and adjust to read but that is a terrible thing to ask of readers. I used to read this on my elliptical in the morning but can't anymore. Worst update to any app ever!
Going blind 1/5
Thought my eyesight was okay til you changed format. Was an original user of the app, now find that I want to go back to my print edition, recycling be damned.
I used to love SI on the iPad 1/5
By Muggles j
I've been a subscriber since the mid 80s. When the iPad version first came out, I was an early adopter. I loved the vivid pictures, the easy to read print size, the videos - it was a great format. I hadn't looked at the paper version in years.
Now it's been replaced by a lousy facsimile of the print edition, which is not well suited to the iPad. I don't think I'm going to renew my subscription if they don't fix it. Very disappointing.
Worse after updated version 1/5
It is extremely difficult to read the new format and they took away a lot of the digital content. I have been a subscriber for over 30 years and am thinking of not renewing after this update. I have no idea how a company could take such a big step backwards,
Impossible to Read 1/5
The digital format is now impossible to read on iPads, with absurdly small text size that often spills onto graphics on the page. Really disappointing to not be able to enjoy the magazine anymore.
How did my eyes go bad so quickly? 1/5
By Ralphie Malf
Signed on today to find my SI digital mag very uncomfortable to read on my full size iPad. Bonus features are missing also. It's easier to just read the printed magazine, which was probably the idea. I assume this change is for economic reasons, but degrading content is no way for any publication to survive in the long run.
To those SI staffers and contractors who put the former digital version together: You did a great job. I hope you find other employment soon.
No More extra pictures and videos 2/5
I loved this magazine and the digital edition to see all the extra videos and pictures plus special features. Now like everyone says it is a PDF version. I am grateful that i have the iPad 12.9 inch version which makes it easier to read the magazine, however, i really miss all the extra leading off pictures we used to get and also the extra articles that came special with the digital editions. Why SI, please answer that and please change back to a special digital edition.
I am really disappointed that SI decided to scale back the digital features of their electronic issues. It really is like reading a PDF. I don't understand how they can expect loyal customers to just accept this inferior product. It is nearly impossible to read and I am strongly considering canceling my subscription.
Why ruin a good thing? 1/5
No more interactive features, and now I have to zoom in on each page so I don't need to strain my eyes. SI and TIME are owned by the same company, and TIME doesn't skimp on the digital format, so I don't understand why SI decided to cut corners.
Non-Digital Format Inferior 1/5
The first time that I access an issue in the new format, I couldn't believe what an inferior reading experience it is. It's unfortunate that that this major step back was deemed necessary
