The old Square layout was super user friendly. This new interface though is a complete mess. After clicking around for over 40 minutes now I still can't figure out how to set up a store layout. Moving onto a different option for taking payment for my company. There's no reason this app should be this complicated. What a mess.
New update and lack-thereof 1/5
Why where the updates for square retail not added for the normal square app? I bought the equipment and signed up for square processing because of the fact that updates and additions to the POS would be free? How come the horrid inventory tracking and customer profiles in square is supposedly improved in square for retail? These are basic features and tenets of the square app that should be included.
No iPad Pro 12.9 support. And no side view support for iOS multitasking.
No way to track bottle deposit and bottle returns.
No way to delete unused secondary locations.
Many other little quirks that need to be addressed.

Clear and simple. Receive my money fast. My customers love it too. They all know it's secure because so many other businesses use it.
Unbelievably bad and aggravating (lack of) customer service! The efforts I had to resort to to finally talk to a human being who then could not answer my questions but did promise to pass my concerns on to another department (not transfer me to that department as, according to the aforementioned human, did not have a phone number!) and that a rep from that department would "reach out to me" before of the end of the business day. They did not.

Update: works great on Itouch 5. I've seen it used by many small businesses around here too. A photographer, Ice cream shop owner, sign-maker, etc.
1/14/16 update: been using square for over 5 years now and they continually update the app and add new technology to improve the convenience of getting paid! I am an artist and attend festivals all over the southeast and when I see the other artist accept only cash, I think, "why?"
With the new contactless reader I have accepted swipes, chip cards, and even apple pay. It's so easy and I charge the customer a card fee sometimes.
I use this with an iPad Pro and I highly recommend you use this app with a cellular connection! You can technically accept payments with no signal...but beware: you are responsible if the client's card has no money in it! I have lost a sale this way and learned the hard way. Always have a cellular or wifi connection and the app will check the card and warn you "insufficient funds"
Every small business owner should have this app. It's free and the card readers are free (you pay for it up front and get paid back after the initial sale)

I have used the Square app for years, now, having gotten it when it first came out. I have had no problems with it until the chip cards came out and I updated my phone. The very few non-chip cards have to be entered manually at a higher fee because my new phone has no jack for the stripe reader. Actually, that's more a problem with my phone than with Square.

I have to say this app is a great app for business use however it's not blind friendly enough like it used to be. Please fix this issue in the next update. My voice over has trouble letting me type in the amount I am trying to charge my clients and it's definitely not my phone.

Have an on/off option to automatically connect reader.
With earphones in the app makes a very high pitch screeching sound. Really hurts our ears when we happen to want to edit our items while having our earphones connected. Thank you.

I haven't had any issues with the App itself, just their customer service is bad. If you talk to them it's pretty much what they say goes, you are not allowed to talk to any supervisor or anybody above the person your talking too. They will tell you, if you want you can hang up and call again so you can talk to a different person and they will tell you the same thing. They won't give you any information, if you ask them a question you will alway get the same answer "it will get resolved in 1-2 business day". After I get my money I will no longer be using their services.

I have been using this for years. I have had little to no problems with it or the service. I did have an issue with one client this past year, 1st and only, The client disputted a charge and my account was handeled promptly and I was not charged for the amount of the dispute. I use an iPad as a registry and my clients love when I make a happy face after they sign! I will one day get into opening the store that Square offers but have not had the time. Payment is on point and I can not say anything negative about this service. I highly recomend it anyone using either service or brick and morter store! Its Great!

I truly am happy with my chip card reader for my business. But the tutorials that come up of HOW to use a chip card reader EVERY time I plug it into my phone is beyond annoying. If I do not know how to insert a chip card into the reader at this point, I don't need to be using the reader. Is it really necessary for the tutorial to come on EVERY time?! Please change! Thanks!

I've been using Square since it first came out. Our business would not have been successful without it. The convince of being able to transport the chip with the product on the go is great. I don't understand why you keep changing the name just because you're expanding services. I'm not really a fan of the chip reader. It's cumbersome to say the least. Overall, I like it better than the others I have tried.

BRING BACK THE SYMBOLS 1/5
Before when you press the 3 line menu button on the top left there are a list of things. That list used to have symbols to the left of it. Instead it just says "point of sale". For example the register had 4 squares grouped in a square. Those symbols help me select the right tab. PLEASE BRING IT BACK ASAP. CHANGE IT BACK TO "square" not "point of sale".
Chip reader connections problems 4/5
Since this non sense change of name, my chip reader take over a minute to connect to the phone. What did you do?!? Why destroy something that was working like a Swiss clock!!!! I had been using square for my business for more than 2 years, and this is the worse update ever. I am kind of disappointed. FIX THIS ISSUE A.S.A.P.

They blocked my account because they "found a pattern of transactions associated with high-risk activity". WHAT? I asked them the return money back to my customers, and they took it from my account and didn't gave it back to the customers! I tried to call and sent e-mails for Square, but I was ignored again!

Checks are nearly passé, so taking debit/credit cards is perfect for clients. Now with the "chip", no more awkward swipes during transactions. Thank You! This product has continued to evolve since it hit the market. It's #1 and perfectly Square with me.

I am a sole proprietor/business owner and run my own medical practice. Square is great for easily taking payments and sending invoices. The software also makes accounting much easier. Also, they've done a great service with creating the marketing and loyalty programs. There are some areas that I would love to see improvement:
1) make it easy and simple and clear to patients how to schedule at different office locations
2) give more freedom to us as the business owner to change templates and make mailings/newsletters/marketing info under our own brand/design
Otherwise - so far great software and I'll keep using it! Thanks!
