Story corps is dumb 2/5
By Gobro gopro
It’s dumb and stupid
Frustrated and disappointed 2/5
I love everything about Story Corps. And the app works beautifully when I am making my recordings. However I have yet to make one recording that has successfully uploaded to the platform - and I have tried multiple times over multiple days. But every time my upload fails, and I have tried on 3 separate wireless networks. I am beyond frustrated. I've recorded some wonderful interviews with my grandmother that I would love to share with the world. So deeply disappointed.
Needs an update 2/5
Honestly, I want to LOVE this app. The concept of it alone is awesome to me... However, I cannot upload the recording to the platform. Which the world would love and laugh to here, Why?! I would love to share it!
Love this app and all involved BUT... 1/5
By Mia McBride
It NEEDS an update where people can upload prerecorded interviews!!! Sorry guys and gals at StoryCorps love you to pieces but this is big! It used to be an option and now it's been taken away. I have some very insightful interviews that the world needs to hear and no way to share them 💔💔💔 Hate to rate so low, don't want to send out that bad energy to such a great group.
Lots of love and I'll definitely re-review when the feature is added back,
Ya girl 💔
Tried to sign in for a project but the new update of the app wouldn’t let me. Went to the website, which said “a new StoryCorps.me is coming soon please check back in a few hours.” Made me miss my interview. This app is horrible.
Humanity Revealed 5/5
Love this app. Real people totally unscripted just having a conversation. Only wish it was longer.
The podcasts are great! 5/5
Excellent app for recording histories. App works well and the sample questions are very helpful. Everyone should use this app and record their family history!
Powerful tool for family members & educators 4/5
By COL student
StoryCorps 3.0 is a powerful tool for recording oral histories, especially for family members and educators. The app's question lists and tips are a great introduction to interview techniques and make it easy to use at home or on the go.
However, the app is not designed for recreational listening—most users' uploads are 20 minutes or longer, and the search is limited to location and keywords. So if you're looking for the StoryCorps podcasts, NPR clips, or animations, the website (storycorps.org) is a much better resource.
Educational- inspiration- relaxing 5/5
The pod cast are absolutely wonderful ~ the story telling is wonderful & it's told in such an educational & inspiring way that after a long week I needed a break from tv & news ~ this took me into relaxation mode ~ one of the easiest 5 Stars I've ever rated
Lost my interview? 2/5
Huge fan of the podcast and had been planning this interview for a year. Sat down with my grandma this morning to record and had a beautiful interview in which she told me her life story! Saved to the app and went to post it tonight and it's gone! Incredibly worried, I can't find where to go to contact support?
The interview with my mom is gone 1/5
I recorded an interview with my mom who has Alzheimer's. It is now gone. Did an update erase the recording? You make me sad...
Improved with more questions and stories to hear 5/5
I first used this app in fall and while I've only recorded two interviews so far, I'm ready to put it to use at a family reunion this summer. It's definitely much improved. There are new questions added and overall, it seems faster moving from one step to the next. I also found out I can listen to some Storycorps stories that are like what I hear on NPR. I find something new whenever I open up this app!
Hallelujah! App updates fixed the bugs 5/5
By Talky Teach
Update: with the newest release 2.5.0 out, I had my students update their apps and run some peer to peer interviews in class - looks like the major bugs are gone! All our interviews uploaded and there were no mysterious disappearances or struggles. UI is much nicer now too! Phew.
I recently used the app to run The Great Thanksgiving Listen project with my 10th grade history students. Each of them recorded a grandparent or adult in their lives using the app, and then we uploaded them all with a special classroom keyword.
The app functionality was fairly basic and the process of recording/uploading for all 45 of my students was a little rocky - some of the interviews disappeared, some of them wouldn't upload to the site, etc. I hope they fix the bugs soon!
Once we uploaded the interviews, my students did all of the photos, keywording and description writing through the website version of the app at storycorps.me. Much easier than typing on phones and the interface was more comprehensive.
This is a great curriculum for history and social studies classrooms and I'm so glad I found out about it!
Like nothing else! 5/5
I can't tell you how impressive this app is. Works perfect. A few tweaks, as others have suggested, and we are talking perfection. This app can change the world!
Not happy at all 1/5
If I could give it zero stars I would. I lost my whole interview with my grandmother....
By Philly Wonka
This app has a good a idea but has terrible functionality. Lost one of my interviews for no apparent reason, there was no way to recover it.
Uploads fail 2/5
The app is great for recording interviews, but it won't let me upload them! I've tried several times over the span of two months, and I still can't publish my interviews. Please resolve this issue, because it makes the app useless!
Deleted my interview. 1/5
I interviewed my grandfather--went through the correct steps to save it--and when I opened the app 4 days later it was gone. So frustrating.
Deletes All My Interviews 3/5
Love the concept but honestly, I've made 4 interviews and all of them disappear before I get the chance to record them. Fix it.
Great connection app 5/5
By Thanksgiving Listen
What a great idea to get young people to ask meaningful questions of the older generation. The questions provided here are fabulous and get kids started on one of the most important interviews of there life.
Very disappointed... 1/5
I did a really good interview with my dad and it was 43 minutes long. I really liked it. The next day it was gone and I was really mad. I was sure I saved it but it wasn't there. IF THERE IS A SOLUTION PLEASE TELL ME! I'm so mad.
DOES NOT PLAY AFTER 6 MINS 1/5
I interviewed my dad for the #GreatListen and our interview came out to be a lengthy 33 minutes. A couple of days after the initial interview, I tried to sit and play the whole interview but the audio would not past the 6 minute mark. Even though the app showed the actual length of the interview ( 33 minutes), every time I tried to play it it would automatically stop at the 6 minute mark. I tried to skip past the 6 minute mark but no luck. Next I tried to call customer service 3x but no answer. I also tried file sharing using ITunes and I was successfully able to download my interview but when I played the downloaded audio it only had the first 6 minutes of the interview on it which was extremely disappointing and heartbreaking. If there is anyway to get my FULL 33 MINUTE INTERVIEW BACK I would love to hear it. The app is a very solid idea and a great way to connect with someone nonetheless, there are so many glitches on the app and the app is basic which makes it very hard to enjoy.
Deletes randomly, even days later 1/5
I assigned the Great Thanksgiving Listen to my class. Many had successful interviews and families reached out to me to tell me what a great assignment it was. The problem is that the app erased 8-10 kids' interviews! Some happened right after recording and some happened up to 4 days later. We logged into the StoryCorps.me accounts on a desktop to try to find them, but we were not successful. I would NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS APP, but instead would suggest recording on "voice record" on your iPhone and then uploading the file to the StoryCorps website that way. It's a shame to lose this hard work from kids with relatives they only see once a year. ☹️
Lost Important Interview 1/5
By Pizza Cones
I don't know what happened exactly, but the app malfunctioned and lost an amazing interview I had with my grandfather a few weeks earlier, the last recording of him before he died. I was only able to recover the first third of it. Don't record your interview in the app! And if you do, back it up to a computer immediately. Don't let this happen to you – I won't ever forget it.
A review from Mr. Ernst 1/5
This app was terrible! Kids were having so much trouble. Sad! 🐸
Glitchy and awful and annoying to use 1/5
By Terrible truth
-deleted all my interviews
-obnoxious to use
-trouble logging in
I'm a teenager, if this all is confusing to me then you know there's an issue with the app. FIX IT PLS because it could be really nice and instead it's VERY GLITCHY AND ANNOYING TO WORK WITH
They should :
-make glitch fixes
-be more clear
-allow you to adjust timer(TIMER KEPT GLITCHING)
-and AUTOMATICALLY SAVE THE RECORDINGS NO MATTER WHAT because it's really upsetting
Unreliable/ must be connected to wifi to save 2/5
Deleted my interview !!!!! So annoyed this app would be 5 stars if it hadn't deleted it
It's gone 3/5
I love the feel and purpose of the app. Many of my interviews are gone and I think they were deleted...
Crushed my hopes. 1/5
By A 14 year old emotional girl
I wanted to interview my grandparents because they were starting to get old. The interview was emotional and touching. And when I tried to upload it, I filled everything out fine, but then it went back to login and terms of service. The interview was lost and I was crying for hours. I won't have that kind of bonding with them if we try to repeat the interview and it's such a disappointment. Nothing like its hyped to be.
Deleted my interview 1/5
This app had me make an account at the beginning, before I recorded my interview. I finished recording the interview, and In order for me to add participants names, it made me sign in again. When I signed in, it deleted my entire interview. huge waste of time
Completely Disappointed 1/5
I used the app to record an interview with my grandmother. Because she doesn't have wifi, I used the "save to device" option o I could upload it later. After driving six hours back to my home, I open the app and the interview is nowhere to be found. I guess I can plug my iPad into the computer and search for it, but This is a frustrating and unacceptable level of performance for the Storycorps app. I can't imagine that less tech savvy people will even be able to find their interviews when they experience this glitch. Definitely won't trust this app to record stories/family interviews again.
By Love of my face
I did a 45 minute interview with my grandmother and I logged back in and it's gone. This was really special to me because it was about her life and my dads and everything she remembered and now it's gone. I'm so upset and I wish that this didn't happen.
Can't get through the create account page 1/5
Tried multiples times to create an account. App doesn't do anything and doesn't know how to create an account and login. Frustrating. Sounded like a cool idea.
This is a wonderful way to preserve history and humanity 5/5
I heard about StoryCorps via a TED Talk so I decided to give their App a try. I decided to interview my Mom from the couch while watching Game 7 of the World Series because I knew it was going to be epic. She was reluctant to participate at first, but the interview got better as time wore on. I found the App easy to use and was surprised by how good the sound quality was using my phone's mic. We used the Pause button A LOT because we were engrossed in watching the game, so take advantage of this feature if you need to take a break for whatever reason. Overall it was a positive recording experience and I think it's so cool our interview was added to the collection at the Library of Congress!

Decided not to use this app. They claim the right to use your content for free.
Great Idea 5/5
I've been a frequent listener of your show on NPR and finally decided to record my own interview. The app worked great and I was able to share my grandfather's interview with my whole family.
Lost my interview. 1/5
I recorded an entire interview with my grandpa and i go to upload it and the stupid app freezes on the agreement page. thanks for nothing
Easy and enlightening 5/5
This app is easy to use and it guides you through every step. It was really nice to interview my grandfather! He was surprised by some of the question and we learned a lot about each other. I didn't even know he'd been deployed to Korea until we did this! I'm excited to interview more family during the holidays. Pro tip: make sure you point the microphone at the bottom of the iPhone towards the mouth of the person talking. Also, give the dog a treat to keep him quiet!
Updated and Uploaded! 5/5
By Happy Updater
The new update is so much better than the earlier versions of this app! I was able to record an interview, use the pause button, and upload my interview without a problem. Other reviewers should check that they have a strong wifi connection and the most recent version of the app. Also, if anything seems funny, you can plug your phone into your computer to extract audio files directly. A great idea from StoryCorps!
Does not work 1/5
Downloading second time over last few months. Can not even get past the Swipe to Login screen this time and it wouldn't login last time.
Great Idea, poor functionality. 2/5
I was very compelled by the Ted talk about this app. I actually have a download it and use it for class. I like how I was able to select all of my questions ahead of time, and the app is rather easy to use. However, after reporting and uploading my interview the file became corrupted and I lost another 10 minutes of my interview. That was extremely disappointing. Please fix this app.
Thanksgiving homework? No thanks.
Most memorable holiday experience ever! 5/5
I did this last year with my parents and siblings over the Thanksgiving weekend. The conversations I had made me laugh and cry and appreciate new things about those closest to me. So many amazing stories came out! We all uploaded our interviews to storycorps.me and shared our interview links with other family and friends. We also have piece of mind knowing they are archived for the future. Everyone is planning to do it again this year. Cant wait!
Updated and All is Well 4/5
Phew! I read the lousy reviews of this app and experienced some of the same issues last year when I tried to record my grandfather. I updated the app a week ago to 2.4.0 and did a couple short interviews with my niece and nephews while they were visiting - things seem to be resolved with the missing audio files. I'm glad I tried again, since I want to interview all 8 of my great aunts and uncles this year at Tday... hope we don't get into any election talk.
Updated and now every works! 5/5
Was having several of the issues that others in the comments were having, but I updated to the newest version (and had all my students update as well), and everything is working now. We just recorded practice sessions with all 6 of my history classes - on the Great Thanksgiving Listen next weekend!

I recorded myself talking about a cat that has recently passed. I heard about this and thought it would be a great way for people to remember him. When I go back to the app to listen to it I find that it's gone! The story I told was very meaningful to me and now it's gone. I'm very sad and I don't think I will be using this app again.
does open 1/5
this app doesn't launch properly in ios 10. the start page says swipe or tap to start but it doesn't recognize any input at all.
Needs more functionality 3/5
I love the StoryCorps idea and have been interviewing my 91 year old Dad but the app is lacking functionality. I try to get my family to follow me but the app does not allow you to search for keywords without scrolling through a list of hundreds of words. Not very practical. Also if you want to follow someone you can't do it from the app. People want to listen to stories on the go so the app needs to be better designed so people can find the interviews they are looking for.
Beyond disappointed... 1/5
Uploaded an interview I did with my 96 year old grandmother while she was in town for my wedding and just logged back in to listen to it again and it's gone!?!?!? I'm honestly devastated because it was a half hour interview about her life and our family. Not only was this the last time I might possibly see her, she also has memory loss and I'm not sure this will ever be a possibility to do again :( I'm beyond disappointed and would recommended anyone thinking about using this app not to. I'll never get this chance again....
