No bookmarks or hyperlinks?! 3/5
Visually very pretty, but the navigation through articles could stand some improvement, and until there are clickable hyperlinks and a way to bookmark articles (especially recipes!)--or at least export them to something like Evernote--I'm not giving up my print subscription!
By Spanish Latin America
The app does not function correctly. I purchased a 1 year subscription and cannot access new issues. Sunset customer service is incapable of solving the problem.
Hardly reliable 1/5
It crashes a lot! Keep fixing the bugs!
What Happened? 1/5
Until recently I was able to access my subscription digitally. Now, without any notification they want to charge me an extra $20 to view what I could do previously as part of my subscription. I have not changed or renewed my subscription which does not expire until 2020. With so many magazines struggling this is no way to keep subscribers renewing.
Needs retina images. 3/5
Well, I love the magazine - great content, I’ve been reading it for years. The latest app update, however, is disappointing - the images are NOT retina quality and look poor on the iPad screen.
Could be better 2/5
10/23/2017 Udate:the app software got better and you could bookmark but now the updated app does not have that option and lost all my old bookmarks. Why are we going backwards on technology!
It is great it can read sunset Magazine on my IPad but I agree that it does not use a digital formate to it's fullest potential . It does read like a PDF and you cannot even bookmark. I do hope you will take a look at Martha Stewart Living , Food and Wine and Vogue Knitting Apps. You could do so much better.
What were they thinking 1/5
By The R-Ms
love sunset magazine but their app has been behind the times. in the initial versions, the app mag was dynamic with great photos and jumps from section to section. with the economic down turn, the fluidity was lost and you would get the mag, with sister regions, in one long document. NOW with this upgrade, the magazine is now certain/horiz but previous issues are gone. the fluidity Is gone. the great pictures are gone. in essence my love of this app is gone.
What the hell were they thinking.
More than the print version but can be improved 4/5
I would like to see horizontal view options when possible, more expanded views of some pictures, otherwise I am happy with the content and links.
I PAID to get this? What I want to do is search to find content on various locations. This app doesn't search. Lame.

We've been faithful readers of Sunset since before the days of Time Magazine ownership. This app is horrible and won't let us access our subscription. It ask us, current subscribers, to pay for digital downloads. I miss the days that Sunset was the "Magazine of western living" and was focused on pleasing their subscribers.
Absence makes the heart grow furious 2/5
WHY WHY WHY?! Why does this app consistently delete my downloaded and paid-for issues? Not just one version but all. I'm currently re-downloading issues for perhaps the fourth time. What up?
The only thing readable are the ads.. I wish I had bought the paper version.
Doesn't work 1/5
You can't even see the free preview
Crap App Icon Stuck on my phone 1/5
Your crappy app is stuck on my phone and I can't delete it or even open it. It's just darkened on my screen.
Not easy to start 2/5
It takes a long time and numerous restarts to get past the several ad pages. Flipping pages just loops the ads. Not user friendly. Wouldn't pay for it. I got free with paper subscription.
Great way to get a great magazine 5/5
Sunset magazine has always been a top-quality magazine. We used to tear the pages out of each magazine to store the tips and vacation ideas. Having it on an app makes it that much easier and we don't have to store all the scraps of paper. We can easily note where we found good ideas and go back to them, easily expanding the view. The magazine goes with us wherever we go now.
Sunset Magazine 5/5

Wonderful app, so easy to use....
Too cluttered 1/5
Never have found what I'm looking for on this cluttered site. Queries for help have gone unanswered. I've deleted it
Needs improvement 2/5
By Apple dais ❣
The app is not easy to navigate. Returning to the main library or menu is near impossible most of the time--tap, tap, double tap, nada. It's also not easy to pinch zoom an article to fit in the screen for better reading. Picture quality is fine but could use an interface overhaul.
Great app 5/5
By Not going to rate anymore.
Great app. Let's me read the magazine flawlessly. Never had a problem. Always shows the current issue in Newsstand.
Content good, app is poor. 2/5
This app only orients vertically rather than horizontally. This makes it difficult to read. , It does not return you back to where you were if you jump to another page. A clumsy app.
Resent having to pay more $ 1/5
As a subscriber, I would think that Sunset would want to endear rather than alienate their subscribers. Paying additional money to be able to see the magazine on my iPad is unacceptable. I will not pay additional nor will renew my paper subscription.
Horrible app 1/5
Can't get past the multi page Jenn-Air advertisement. Terrible.
Love this app! Great to take with me!!! 5/5
This is one of my favorite apps!
Agree with others 1/5
Bought a paper/digital subscription through App Store. Months later, still no magazine, and was unable to view the digital version for months.
Amateurish and poor app- does not do justice to a great magazine
Terrible App! 1/5
By furball babe
This is a terrible app. Doesn't remind me to download new issues. App crashes all the time. Not user friendly and navigation doesn't enhance the experience. I have Architecture Digest and it is 100 times better. Sorry I paid for a one year digital subscription. Will definitely not renew.
great magazine, poor app 2/5
I have been a paper and digital subscriber for years. I love Sunset magazine but do not care for their app. No matter what issue I have downloaded, when I open Apple Newsstand I always see the same issue. It has been stuck on "Small Spaces" for months! I would like to be able to see the current issue sitting on the shelf of my newsstand (after downloading) like other magazine apps. The only way to do this is to delete the app and re-download every month. Frustrating!
Love the Magazine, Hate the App. 1/5
It freezes, never displays current month on bookshelf and crashes. Get it fixed!
Could be a LOT easier 2/5
Impossible to retrieve digital edition despite being print subscriber.
once we were helped over the phone and given pass code, I was able to read it online
Then it worked fine
it doesn't work - can't access magazine except for photos 1/5
Terrible game app - can't access digital content - am going to try to get my money back. Ridiculous. Negative 5 stars.
Good mag, poor app 3/5
I just wanted to subscribe and read the April issue I started while waiting for a haircut. I took the free trail that said it would turn into a years subscription automatically. When I downloaded the April issue I was charged full price. Great mag. I've been reading for years. App needs some work.
Average app 3/5
I have to keep downloading issues. The app can't seem to remember what I have already downloaded.
Good but doesn't seem to know what I've downloaded 3/5
Really like the app and ability to read sunset where ever, but the app keeps telling me there is a new edition when there isn't.
iPhone 6 and 6+ 4/5
Please update for the iPhone 6 and 6+.
So frustrating 2/5
All I wanna do is look up an archived article. Had to jump through so many hoops then finally found the correct month and year issue and the article isn't completely available on the app.
Sunset Digital 1/5
I subscribe to Sunset magazine and the digital edition. When I open the digital edition, all I get is adds trying to sell more of the Sunset other magazines. I can not get through these adds to the current magazine. Not a very useful app.
New to sunset on my iPad 3/5
By J deP
Love the content, hate the app my hand and head hurt from swiping trying to find my way around the magazine. Thumbnails might help!
Not for iPad 1 1/5
This is absolutely ridiculous. I am currently a subscriber to the magazine (print) and I have the Sunset App on both my iPad 1st generation, and my iPhone 4s. I would love to know why I have to reset my Sunset digital edition password every single time I try to access the app, despite the fact that I am indeed entering the correct email and password each time. I didn’t even need it on my iPhone-I had simply downloaded it to see if it work any better on my phone, but who wants to read tiny print on a phone? I actually wanted it on my iPad since it would be easier to visually navigate, but the password issue is getting ridiculous. This is garbage.
Cannot get new issue 1/5
Cannot get January 2015 issue. I am paid thru July 2015 but Sunset customer service cannot find me.
Not much fun to use 2/5
Like others, I had to delete the app and all the back issues in order to see the January issue. (Y2.015K?) However, I don't ever look forward to using the app. My main problem is that unless you swipe in exactly the right direction, you open ads you don't want to see. (Maybe that's a feature, from Time's standpoint.) I also dislike that it requires portrait orientation, but then I've seen that elsewhere, and I can live with it.
It is certainly not a replacement for the print copy.
worst app 1/5
I have been using an ipad for 4 years and subscribe to 12 different magazines from sports to finance. Sunset is a good magazine but has without a doubt the worst functioning app in the business. They keep saying (sorry we got it fixed) but it never is !!
Love having Sunset on the iPad 4/5
Yes the app is not perfect, randomly asking to log in again, but having Sunset handy when you are our and about is great
Bad app 1/5
Again it is impossible to get to the digital issue. The "help" response is useless. Giving up on Sunset. Too bad.
Sunset review 4/5
I too had trouble with the 1/15 magazine download. Eventually had to delete the app and all my saved months worth of downloaded material. The reinstall then allowed the 1/15 download, but now I am faced with downloading my previous copies. The images and photos are much better on the iPad so it is worth it, but it would be nice if Sunset made these transitions less of a problem.
January 15 issue not downloading 2/5
Hi I'm having the same problem with the January 2015 issue and the error message. Nothing is working and customer support is no help.
iPad poor 1/5
Happy I have a subscription mailed monthly to me. The iPad version is very hard to get around when searching for pages. With the actual magazine I can quickly scan through pages. The iPad version the reader must "leaf" through every page to get to desired page. Which it was more like the books I get in the iPad.
App doesn't work 1/5
This app doesn't work anymore. I can't download the January 2015 issue. I get an error message that says the file is missing or invalid. Sunset doesn't answer my complaints, but just sends me emails telling me how to log in. I'm already logged in! I expected better of Sunset.
Feature rich 5/5
Easy to navigate allows to naturally explore magazine topics
Great links to external websites
Easy to use and nice graphics but I cannot figure out how Toronto the recipes
It's better than carrying around the paper copy. 5/5
By RBoyd 2
I throughly enjoy all the articles and don't have to remember where I misplaced each issue....it's easy to use.
