1Password - Password Manager app reviews

  • One of my most valuable apps 5/5

    By Robsparks
I don't often review apps and I seldom recommend one. But I've just sent a recommendation to another friend to buy 1Password. He needs it. You know how it is: you have several websites and slip into using an easy password for many of them and then struggle to keep it all straight. 1Password will elegantly and reliably solve that problem. You can instantly create highly secure passwords and save then with ease and work from within a secure browser. If you get 1Password and learn to use it, it will become one of your most valuable apps.

1Password sounds great, but they make it very hard just to sign up and get started. I wanted to include my family, but that just did not work out. I am still considering whether to add my passwords (if I can) or simply back out and try another password saving app.

Great app; used almost since it’s inception, been reliable, useful, is updated regularly and now sharing it with de familia!
  • Standalone 3/5

    By grexisvdarjbdey
It’s good, but all I want is to have this standalone, sync via iCloud, and use it on my iPads, iPhone, iMac. I have read in various locations that I can buy a standalone license, but nothing says how. I read one suggestion that says I have to download it from a certain site. That doesn’t work either. And I don’t get the sync icon on my preferences. Idowloaded same thing for my wife, from iCloud, and she gets the sync icon, but they don’t sync. I am so confused.

  • Best Password Manager 5/5

    By samyarbid
I’m a long time 1Password user — started with version 4 — so I can honestly say this is the best password manager on the market. I use LastPass Enterprise at work and LastPass doesn’t come close in user experience or functionality. Kudos to the guys at 1Password! Keep up the great job.
  • This is THE BEST 5/5

  • The best 3rd party solution their is 5/5

If I were to boil down the two best use-cases for 1Password, they would be: - Someone who needs their passwords in multiple browsers - Someone who needs to share passwords (e.g, spouses) I’d still argue that iCloud Keychain is the best for one-person, one-browser use. But my wife and I have plenty of shared accounts and iCloud Keychain makes it hard to (a) share passwords and (b) rotate your passwords if you’re sharing them. I’ve used LastPass, personally and at work, and 1Password is a no-brainer if you’re picking between the two for personal/family use. A couple final notes: - If you like nice and well-crafted experiences, 1Password does not disappoint. - 1Password offered the ability to gift a free year of your plan to anyone you choose during Thanksgiving. It was delivered through a wonderful email from the 1Password founder giving thanks for all the customers over the years. It endeared me greatly to the product and I sent it to a friend who switched his family to 1Password from LastPass (they’re loving it). - I also store things like my gym lock combination and driver’s license on 1Password (stuff like that is very useful for spouses filling out shared paperwork and whatnot). This is the longest review I’ve ever written and it’s because I think so highly of the service. If you’re in need of an iCloud Keychain replacement, there’s no better choice.

I won’t go into details because people can read those everywhere but what I will say is after using many different PW managers 1Password has been the most reliable trustworthy app for its job.
  • This app is awesome 5/5

Migrated from eWallet to 1Password recently (which was no easy feat due to eWallet making it nearly impossible to export data in any usable format). Didn’t know what I was missing. This software (1Password) is fantastic. The family shared vaults is an AMAZING value. Being able to share passwords with my family with granularity is extremely valuable. The whole 1Password ecosystem works VERY well. Very impressed. Excellent work to the development team. Nicely done.

  • Overly Sophisticated and Complex 3/5

    By Fabfubear
I have been using 1Password since its inception many years ago. It has been a very reliable, understandable password manager. I now have 1Password on multiple iPhones, iPads, and iMacs. Unfortunately, through the many updates and iterations of 1Password it has grown so complex and sophisticated that I no longer have confidence that I understand its working or how to get it to do what I want. Basic screens, such as Preferences (on tabletop computers) and Setting (on idevices) for the same version of 1Password differ. Trying to force 1Password to sync across my many devices seems to be an impossibility. I long for the days when 1Password was the “same” on all the devices on which I had it installed. I long for the days when I understood how to make 1Password perform some desired operation (such as Sync across all platforms). 1Password has become an example of “best” being the enemy of “better” and “better” having been the enemy of “good.”
  • Love this app 5/5

    By julioterra
I’ve been using 1Password for 5 years and I really love it. It’s the best way to manage your password and other important information, like credit cards, bank, and personal IDs. Also great for sharing this type of information with family or team members.
  • Facebook and the standalone vault will help, 5/5

    By 1fatcat892!
But not Sure how to keep year subscription and delete the vaults that can’t be resurrected. I make a lot of mistakes, but this app is beyond awesome once configured. Still don’t have all add ones and the right keyboard to be able to generate or fill from any site or app. You all are awesome. Thank you.
  • Absolutely awesome! 5/5

    By Millostar
I have been using this app for years now. Yes, the initial setup might be a little arduous, but in the long run it’s absolutely worth it! Works seamlessly on my iPad, iPhone and MacBook Pro. Safe and secure Love it

    By Daltx9
You will be miserable if you do. Multiple vaults, syncing to vaults/needing to delete vaults so other options are available, bugs (won’t display a hash mark in certain locations - so my password doesn’t display correctly!), total lack of clear instructions on dealing with iOS and macOS devices. I think part of my problem is that I’ve used 1Password since version 4. Updates/new versions till now were seamless. The total rebuild to 7 has left me clueless. I use a desktop Mac and laptop Air - both on Mojave, an iPad, iPad Pro and iPhone, and each device has its own unique problems with the upgrade. So I’m troubleshooting different issues on each device. I’ll continue to troubleshoot with the hope of finding each device’s own unique problem. And the thought of switching to another password manager is daunting but I think a new provider may the only way. I’ve never once written a review, positive or negative, in the App Store. But this upgrade experience has brought me to write. Oh my.... Updating my review. So it’s all about the Vaults. I’ve never used multiple vaults before. So when I upgraded and automatically had 2 vaults I was thrown. Oddly, Personal is where all my existing data is, not Primary. I think I understand, the new account you create is how syncing occurs in Personal Vault. Primary will sync via Dropbox/iCloud etc IF you set it up. I figured it out by deleting the app off each device and reinstalling. It then only had a Personal vault and indicated you could set up Primary if desired. And I will say, the Developer very quickly reached out to me offering email assistance with my trouble. That was very nice.

I’ve actually liked using 1password for several years now. However, the past week has been truly nightmarish! Suddenly my iPad has a split keyboard, which drives me crazy. Plus all of a sudden websites are not accepting logins!

I use this app all the time. It’s great at keeping your passwords complex, safe and easy to use. I’ve had a little issue after upgrading my iPhone, but I’m sure I’ll get it straightened out. That’s why only 4 stars.
  • 😮 2/5

    By Dash1894
I brought the app 8/1/14 for $17.99 plus tax $1.60 which adds up to $19.59 and it’s been a great app over the years but now they charging monthly for basically the same password storage that both Apple and google offer now, it’s been a great 5 years but it’s about that time, didn’t mind spending the $19.59 one time but to pay monthly for something that comes with the phone now just dont seem right, everyone wanna start monthly subscriptions like they netflix #nothankyou

Now that 1Password is part of my digital workflow, I will never go back to managing passwords manually.
  • Mismanagement of duplicates is horrible and mangles your passwords 2/5

    By alt music listener
I love wasting my time sorting out the duplicate entries that 1Password creates. I’ve wasted many many hours trying to sort out this mess. Look for other solutions where the developers don’t have their heads up their arses
  • Notes not do 2/5

    By jfaughnan
There is an unfixed bug with display of note contents in read-only mode on both Mac and iOS versions. Longer notes don't show in read mode, you need to swtich to edit mode. Means if you stop paying for 1Password you lose access to critical information like secret question answers. 1Password is not responding to bug reports on this. Common complaint in user forum.
  • Poorly designed 2/5

    By jethroandhobbes
Giving users one chance at a correct PIN entry is poor design. Consider two or three attempts as we all fat finger or make mistakes. Plus there is no method to print out a hard copy for backup or reference. If you forget the master password... game over. Not good. Second update: I have downgraded to three stars based on developer feedback. I do not have a newer device capable of finger or face recognition. Nor will I be able to afford one in the near future. Geepers, one attempt = program is wiped out is unacceptable. I lack your financial means. Have some compassion... Third update: Downgrading to two stars. The developer is clueless. My request is simple. Frustrating to get an additional canned response that does not address my request. (See Above). Use this program at your own risk!
  • No Customer Support 1/5

    By MZBoston
I’ve been trying to cancel my subscription. Impossible to get thru. No customer Service Line to call and no email for customer service. This is disappointing. The physical address is in Canada. Good Luck.

  • If you have issues good luck getting help! 1/5

    By chapp800
I’ve had 1Password for about 3 years and this is the 2nd time I’ve had trouble syncing with Dropbox. To get help you send an email and are lucky if you get an email back in 2 days...when they do email back they give you a couple of steps but when those don’t work you have to wait another 2 days or more for another response. This has been going on for months for me and my app still doesn’t work. I now have the frustrating job of moving all my info to a more reliable app with better customer service.
  • I Couldn’t Live Without It! 5/5

    By Biggie1085
When the message “please enter your password “ pops up on the screen, If you are like myself and so many others, you begin entering every possible configuration you can remember.......and the key word here is “remember” over the years I have rearranged, added symbols, capitalized and even acquired auto generated passwords to endless sites and subscriptions and there is absolutely no way I could begin to “remember” each and every one........that was until I got 1Password. I won’t go into the features and details of the app. Just simply read the title of my review ...............” I Couldn’t Live Without It “

I’ve owned every version of the 1P and have been very happy. I don’t use their online storage preferring iCloud. Rather note put all eggs in one basket with cloud storage.
  • Worst ever application navigation and sign up 1/5

    By jc2019invt
Either the server they use for activating accounts is down or they did not close a simple if then on their part. One full hour spent after purchase and still no way to get into the app. Their help page was written by a team so familiar with the app that they see no need to inform others who are not yet. Since 1984, this is easily the worst product for apple that I have ever experienced.
  • Terrible I have had so many issues with passwords 1/5

By Take them off the site
They want to delete you passwords when you sign up which is scary with no insight to what is happening then they want to blame your non deletion with all the password issues. Rather than them creating a better way to hide your old vault and do back ups to it.
  • The Best 5/5

    By d-wells
Love this app! Big thanks to the devs and the whole team who make this happen. I use this everyday to navigate an endless sea of complex passwords. Highly recommend. Syncs easily between my Mac and my iPhone using iCloud.
