Very frustrating bugs 1/5
By luf fx
This software has potential but is riddled with bugs and jank. It’s strange because the software worked great at first but once a bug appears it never leaves. Reinstalling the software with a hard reset to the iPad doesn’t work, do I have to reformat the iPad? I’m at a point where all the times I’ve spent fighting the software and posting for support on the forums I could’ve maybe just spent a little more for other vector software. Software shouldn’t make you wanna slam your computer into the ground. This software is cheap for a reason, you get what you pay for.
Good but 3/5
It’s very good. But lacking some keyboard shortcuts. Seems like a large oversight.
Outclasses Adobe Illustrator by MILES 5/5
By Nathan Shetland
This is what every creative professional that works in illustrator on a computer needed on their iPads and other devices to speed up their workflow. It completely outclasses illustrator in almost every way—to the point of making me reconsider even continuing to use AI. Wonderful app, easy tutorials, good community forum with answers straight from developers, etc. 5 stars. Well worth the $10.
Constant crashing 1/5
Constant crashing at random and work doesn’t save I keep losing hours of work, ridiculous
Magic keyboard and trackpad support please! 3/5
With the addition of the magic keyboard and trackpad for my iPad Pro I’m using it more than ever before. Unfortunately, Affinity is tuned for touch, and not for trackpads or keyboards. It would be great if some of the same keyboard shortcuts from Desktop came to iPad! Until then, it’s challenging to design on my iPad with the trackpad and keyboard.
Support the Arabic language 4/5
By أبو أيوب الليبي
Hello, I purchased a copy of the Designer app, a high-level application, and I found it somewhat perfect, and it is unfortunate that it does not support text and Arabic fonts, and this negatively affects my workflow,
Texts and fonts are one of the most important things to show great works
and I assure you that if the Arabic language is supported , There will be a large segment that will use the program and is grateful to you for this development of such a wonderful application. Until then my review will remain 4 stars
DO NOT PRINT FROM APP 3/5
The size accuracy of objects is quite poor for such an expensive app. I made 2.5 inch squares and they would print about 2.25 inches. I made a new preset and set the page to exact
US dimensions and the issue persists. After printing from an exported PDF everything was fine. This should not be an issue when this app has been around for quite a long time. There are also no print options to change so not quite sure what is up.
Off to a good start 3/5
By The Witch Doctor
Affinity is the best non-CC vector illustration tool out there. However, there is still a massive gulf between it and the 600-lb gorilla. It cannot compete in advanced features, and among the base features, path editing is poor, and the workflow is poor - if I make a white RGB rectangle, I expect 255/255/255, not 235/235/235 and grey output. Definitely not ready for print production. You could make it work with digital production, but the path editing tools are very primitive - joining points is buggy, and overall the path editing does not feel like it is made for designers. Affinity needs to make basic illustration sing before implementing more advanced features.
A discovered treasure 5/5
I bought this app when it first came out, but didn’t give it much attention. I recently spent some deserved time with Affinity and discovered how great it is! Should have done this sooner. I reach for this over Adobe Illustrator (for now). Not sure whether the novelty will wear off, but Affinity + iPad Pro works for me.
Lagging shutting down 2/5
By Lauren Haily
Constantly lagging and shutting down. Not saving work
My favorite app but... 3/5
I love this app tremendously but it crashes every time I use the pencil tool. Please fix because it’s hurting my productivity.
Sometimes crashes 4/5
Over all, I am happy with this app for the many features and options it has. The app recently started to crash randomly, mostly when I do a copy paste action. The art isn’t complex so I’m unsure why it’s crashing. I find this app my go-to for the designing I do and prefer it over other design programs.
Best iPad designer tool 5/5
Without a doubt, this is the best app for designers. I have worked in the creative advertising industry for 5+ years and this app nails it down 150%. On top of it all, it’s beyond a reasonable price for this powerful app. Thanks for your hard work!
Love and then crash 2/5
I love Affinity products, I have the desktop version as well as the iPad version of Design & Photo. NEVER had an issue on my desktop MacBook.
But for some reason, Design has been crashing on me a LOT on iPad and I can’t get it to save my progress. So I’ve tried to create the same image about 10 times now.
Would LOVE to see this fixed. I only spent $1500 on an iPad so I could use it to edit with Affinity... so I’m a bit frustrated.
I’m glad I made the switch. 5/5
By Kyle Giffen
This app has a lot to offer and a lot of extra features that other popular apps like procreate lack.
I love the ability to type in values rather than guessing on sliders for brush sizes and movement. I can dial in exactly what I want for anything I want to do.
It also really great to have pixel brushes and vector art all in the same app. I’m shocked that I didn’t take vector art more seriously in the past. Drawing and manipulate shapes with vector to create an image works tons better for me. There’s are also a plethora of filters to make your art instantly pop in way I couldn’t have imagined.
I’ve been using procreate for 6 years so things where a little daunting at first. Learning a new program takes time a patients. I’m glad I put in the effort because this app beats procreate in a lot of ways. Also the battery life is amazing when using affinity. I’m so happy I made the switch.
UPDATE NEEDED 2/5
This app keeps crashing on my iPad Pro 2020. Is there any fixes?
Greate workspace, but 4/5
I think there should be some really simple , but useful features like time lapse and rotating the screen while working , after all this is a real illustration app!
Arabic designer 4/5
By nebras almwsawy
This program deserves five stars, but I gave him four stars because it needs to support the Arabic language, especially since Arabic letters are used by 500 million Arab people in addition to the Turks, Iranians, Pakistanis, Afghans and many others who use Arabic letters also in their language, and this will be a billion or more people using Arabic letters, and this Something very important increases the possibility of purchasing the program, I hope to send an update that solves this problem with many thanks for your great efforts .
I love how much you can do with this app 4/5
By Rudy Ballesteros
I love how much you can do with this app. It’s surprisingly powerful for being on an iPad. The only thing I don’t like about it, is that it crashes sometimes. It happens rarely but it still happens. I also hope that this app is using the full 6gbs of ram from the 2020 iPad Pros.
Best app for design when it works 3/5
I have been using the app on an iPad Pro 2019 and Affinity Designer is the only app that crashes. Not only that, I lose the last few setups that I was working on. Any update when stability will be fixed? I have used this app for about 4 months now and might have to go back to Adobe...
Still Wow! 5/5
By I like to calculate
This is a powerful vector app with a good UI, and the added bonus of supporting raster graphics simultaneously.
I'm finding it very useful for designs and sketches of woodworking projects, and light duty photo touch up.
Love being able to switch between working on the Mac and my iPad.
Well worth the money!
Great app! Please not stop! 4/5
How about automatic close fill tool? Please! Recolor artwork tool need too. Also custom shortcut panel may be? Thank you for wonderful app.
Great app but it lack auto saving 3/5
Great app, loves it, but it requires you to save and manually upload to iCloud every time. I wish it updates iCloud as it goes and automatically saves to iCloud like sketch does on MacBook. I lost a few files because of it.
Can I have my 10 dollars back? 3/5
I bought this app yesterday and I didn’t even get the chance to use it because there was a problem with my iPad which required a factory restore and I lost all my data, including purchases. Now I’m buying it a second time and it would be really nice if I could get my first 10 dollars from yesterday refunded. I’ll leave a better review in time, but if this is like their desktop app, then I'm pretty sure I’ll love it.
By I love ccokieswirlc
AFTER I paid $10 it said that my iPad was not supported. So I just wasted $10 that I could of spent on something way better! This is the worst! Don’t waste $10 like me.
Can’t even use 1/5
I really want to love this app, but it crashes every time I use it.
No Subscription 5/5
I will continue to recommend this software to any and everyone looking due to its broad feature set AND NO SUBSCRIPTION (main factor). I and almost everyone I know would prefer the option of buying new versions as needed or unlocking specific features at a one time cost.
Waste of money procreate is way better 1/5
This app is confusing want my money back
App constantly crashing 3/5
By Compton creep
App crashes when I open it and begin drawing. Every time.
Copy-paste issues and nodes 3/5
I use it to make knitting patterns it’s been so useful. I gave 4 stars because the copy&paste features needs work. The new copied shape is never the same and I need to re arrange it every time.
Great app 5/5
It’s fantastic. Surprised me.
No Ruler...REALLY ?!? 5/5
No Ruler...REALLY ?!? This makes this app useable for me.
Text problem 3/5
I wrote about my biggest problem a long time ago, but it seems like the creative team doesn’t care.
(old comment) : Its text has problem in right to left languages such as Arabic or Persian. In these languages the graphemes in the words are clinging together, but here, the graphemes are separated and they can’t create a word.
I paid for this app but cannot be install.refund my money?ipad 7gen
Adobe CC Fonts compatibility 5/5
Please add the API for Adobe Fonts. Thank you.
This app is great! 5/5
I work on my files on both the mac and ipad versions, they sync and work perfectly with each other.
My only problem with the app is the view of the grid and artboard, they don't zoom in and out right. Still I'll give it a 4.8
I'm waiting for a animation app from you guys :)
the “RTL”?????? 1/5
I need “RTL”
great app but please let us have multiple panels open at the same time 4/5
By Regular john95
It has most of the features from the desktop but the fact that you have to tap the panels every time you want to do any thing makes things a lot slower, to the point that the app doest get used as often as i would have like. Pease let us untether the panels. Having the color panel and the layers panel opened at the same time would be nice.
The Reason I bought an IPad Pro 5/5
Affinity is the reason I finally bought back into the Apple world. Ignore the one stars with their extreme use case problems. If you are a person in need of full fledge vector suite that just works this is the best hands down.
Please add image trace feature 4/5
By Tommy Shamrox
Add text arabic 5/5
Add text arabic please!!
Could be so much more 2/5
By Jump good
The simplest action turns into an ordeal. The potential of this app is so great that I’ll keep it on my iPad and wait for the updates. Effects don’t hold when you click off of the curve. You can’t set the stroke numerically without it going back to a random number, Boolean operations don’t do what they’re supposed to. All the options that could be, are just not. This app feels so rush a money grab. Serif needs to do better or be buried by the other options out there.
Lag and More 2/5
Clearly a lot of effort has gone into this app, but the lag issues make it unusable for any practical work. When using a vector brush, I can literally count 4 seconds between drawing with the Apple Pencil and a mark appearing. Restarting lowers the time, but it soon works its way back up. Occasionally, it appears to freeze and fails to draw anything until you pinch to resize the canvas - then it will suddenly spit out several stuck strokes at once. This is on a brand new iPad, with nothing else using system resources. Also, the lack of an eraser tool in vector mode is pretty baffling. Their support forums are full of confused users asking why something so obviously necessary does not exist. I understand that the stroke engine differs from something like Illustrator’s blob brush (strokes remain separate, quickly filling your entire layers studio with countless layers named “curve”), making something seemingly easy difficult...but it renders the app useless for anyone wanting to actually draw and sketch in vector mode.
Good but needs a feature which devs didnt seem to care about adding 4/5
After ever line is drawn all control dots are visible around the object which for me cramps the work flow. Devs just said there is no way to disable it. Check out Vectornator if you need that feature.
Bizarre interface, age range 4+ 4/5
By Jamaica Blue
I applaud that Serif took a new direction from the longtime stalwarts, Photoshop & Illustrator. I love that you ‘own’ a copy the old way, instead of a subscription. Subscriptions are a horrible trend—I don’t care to rent everything in life & renew my life at year’s end. I avoid subscriptions whenever. I can.
This product has so much potential.
Its still not Illustrator (though I stopped using that app after decades of use).
At the same time, despite liking the idea; the general concept, it doesn’t seem so great [to me] in practice. The old apps it replaces have their few quirks too, but are more accessible than this paradigm. The parts not broken, didn’t need fixing. They, perhaps only from familiarity, flow better.
The learning curve, (unless you are born yesterday, in which case everything is new) is aggravating from my experience, I need a seemless tool, not learn to hold a pencil again. Therefore, I don’t use it much.
Therefore, Every time I DO use it—becomes a painful investigation & relearning experience until I lose nearly all interest in my design project.
I hope they can add the missing features in the next cut & make the tool more invisible, more intuitive. I want to be able to change apps, both within the Serif product line & outside it for features found in ClipStudio, the old iDraw [now ‘Graphic’ & others] still for what those do best & differently than Designer. However, the roadblock there sometimes is the iPad itself.
That said, Serif seems to recognize the importance of brief, to the point tutorials. They do seem to push forward.
People tend to review apps for the narrow focus, the few things they’ve achieved successfully, not for interface. Sky’s the limit, if Serif can polish some of the rough spots.
Almost good 2/5
Missing basic features like RTL text support and selection based on fill or stroke color/width.
Apple Pencil bug 3/5
I love all the brushes available, but I can’t believe that every time I draw a line with my Apple Pencil, a little curled tail is added to the end(s). The only way to prevent this is to hold the Apple Pencil at a 90 degree angle from the screen. Even then, it’s not perfect — not to mention impractical. I have resorted to just using my finger or a rubber-tipped stylus. It seems ridiculous that AD/Serif hasn’t fixed this, as my Apple Pencil has always worked perfectly in Adobe Sketch, Adobe Fresco, and Procreate.
I am using an iPad Pro 10.5 inch.
App crash on Art Text tool 3/5
Create a new file, Device, iPad 12.9, default res, 144 dpi, background transparent, click on Art Text tool, keyboard pops out, click anywhere except keys, app crashes.
Nice, but with bugs 4/5
By Daniel Park
Snapping to your grid doesn’t really work. It will snap to invisible lines, but unfortunately those don’t correspond to the visible lines of your actual grid.
Still the best vector tool currently available for iPad, though.
