IPhone X Wingsuit always accidentally activates. 1/5
No matter where I press on the left side of the screen, the wingsuit activates even if I’m not pressing the button.
Super meh. 3/5
I thought this game was going to be exciting and changing from other reviews. Literally all you can do in this game is jump. It’s basically a paid version of flappy birds. I don’t get why this is rated so well.
I loved altos adventure to the point of playing the game for days after I was finished with it. I was hoping for a new experience with altos odyssey but it’s basically a copy and paste of the original with the only difference being new ‘biomes’. I can justify paying this amount of money for altos adventure as it was a brand new game developed from scratch, but this is literally the same as the previous one! Same characters, same items, same physics. On top of that odyssey has a lot of bugs. Even the music was better on the first version of the game. Overall disappointed.
Alright Game 3/5
I love the game, it's calm, relaxing, and fun to play, but eventually the challenges start to become tedious and annoying. They get very specific and it takes more and more time to advance until you've worn yourself down with the challenges. It's a great game if you're not looking to advance too far and unlock too many things.
Edit: I hate this game but I can't stop playing it.
Don't download if you want to keep your sanity 1/5
I broke both my iPad Pro and my iPhone X playing this game. Don't download it.
This is beautiful 5/5
At first, I didn’t think that the Snowman Team could do any better when I saw Alto’s Adventure. As soon as I started playing this game, I knew I was wrong.
The fluid animations, simple yet stunning art, and immersive music all bring me to say that this game is worth every penny of the five dollars it costs, and will have you playing it for hours on end.
Game is too dark 1/5
The nighttime mode is very badly designed. You can’t tell the difference between rocks and scenery most of the time. This makes the game unenjoyable for me.
I loved altos adventure but this game is only one star for me.
Absolutely the most amazing game on Earth 5/5
By loves cocogames_27
To start this review off, I would like to say thank you thank you thank you to the developers of this game for making such a high quality, amazing game. Anyways, The graphics are so good, and it’s the most calm, phenomenal app I have ever installed in my life. I love the Zen mode where if you make a mistake, it just revives you and you can keep going. I do not regret buying this at all and I recommend it to anyone who loves a good calm game <3
Not overwhelmed 3/5
I don’t quite understand all the fuss. It is pretty, but the gameplay isn’t very enjoyable to me. One crash and you restart at the beginning every time. It’s hard not to crash because you get no warning that there is an obstacle coming up, unlike other endless runners like Temple Run.
I wish the whole game was like the tutorial - where you automatically restart right where you were after every crash. It would be like starting again - distance would reset - but I wouldn’t have to click through several menus to just continue playing.
Got too hard. Bummer 3/5
Loved this game but Level 60 goals are unattainable. 350,000 points?! Whatever. What a way to end...I’m out. Thanks guys.
Altos Odyssey: The game of the year 5/5
Alto’s Odyssey is a stunning game with rich graphics and a beauty that surpasses most other games. Odyssey was made with such attention to detail that makes it incredibly fun to play.
Still freezes on iPhone X 1/5
Still freezes on iPhone X
Sorry I bought it!
An improvement on all fronts 5/5
By Ian Haskell
Alto's Odyssey takes what made Alto's Adventure good and improves upon it in all aspects. Odyssey is more dynamic, the sound design is better, the graphics are cleaner, the challenges are bigger, and everything is generally more streamlined. While I would like to see more (and different) characters and perhaps new areas, that doesn't mean that this game isn't a wonderful spiritual successor to one of my favorite games of all time.
What if you add a new location in a city like setting ? With people walking about and there’s alto sand boarding through the sandy streets , jumping over boxes (maybe even releasing llamas ;) ?) just an idea , love the game, thank you!!!
Mechanically Frustrating 2/5
The goody goodies:
Beautiful game and good follow up to Altos Adventures on a graphic design aspect. Music is good as well and fits the tone of game. All of the artistic features clearly had a lot of thought put into them and really feel synchronized to give the player an experience that I think they’d enjoy.
The meh and eh?:
Mechanically its a bit of a flop though. Kept running into this bug where if I would jump in succession, there would be a force that would keep me on the ground. Got pretty annoying especially when I was landing a jump and needed to jump as soon as I landed (like to get over a chasm) but having this force pull me down (i.e. I dead -_-) Loved the addition of the wall riding and overall feels fun however there’s been a few times that I haven’t been able to catch the wall despite being in the correct position. Finally there are a few minor glitches such as the wooden ramp pulling my character into the ground and randomly being able to go inside balloons without bouncing off them.
I also found the layout of some of the biomes to be a bit lackluster. This came in the form of a lot of the slopes not being arced enough to perform backflips and the wall/balloon grinds to be few and far in between. Often times I found myself just watching my character ride the slopes without me doing anything. Just doesn’t seem to have the speed and thrill of its predecessor.
Jerry Springer Final Thoughts Section:
Ultimately, I got the feeling that the game seemed to lose what made it really fun in the first place; being able to pull off amazing stunts using backflips while enjoying a beautiful atmosphere. The journey is fun but it’s not the point. At the end of the day, if the mechanics were touched up, I think it would improve my experience with the game. I’ll keep playing tho.
Laggy AF 1/5
Can’t even play it. The point of this game is to be smooth and fluid and relaxing. I just get choppy play and can’t even land a simple backflip. Screw you Apple. When can I give the developers more money to play this on my awesome, smooth and not choppy Google Pixel 2?
Rough performance on Apple TV 4 (not 4K) 4/5
This game is a great sequel to Alto’s Adventure, and plays flawlessly on the iPhone X. However there are dropped frames causing very jagged animation on my Apple TV 4th generation (the one before the Apple TV 4K). Another review mentioned similar performance problems with the iPhone 6S, to which the developer replied that those issues had been fixed in an update. The fact I’m seeing these issues on a fresh install on my Apple TV suggests this is not the case. Once this issue is fixed the game will be awesome like is successor.
It's amazing! Nothing can be improved! Would buy again! 😊
The game plays you. 1/5
You do not play this game; it plays you. And in truth it would be great if the developers didn’t play god mode.
In a normal game, you expect to play against a set of rules and constructs predetermined by software parameters. A downhill ski slope, for instance, would have numerous obstacles to overcome and pathways to success. Factors such as speed, inertia, gravity, friction, wind resistance, and timing would all add up to determine whether you win or lose. A random yet unambiguous set of laws would govern how far you can go, how many points you can accrue, and how many achievements you can attain, etc.
In AO, however, these constructs only hold true in a very limited way. Quite readily and discernibly, one detects the capricious and arbitrary manner in which the game works against the player. It is an adaptive mode that does not merely adjust to one’s skill level; it actively undermines one’s ability by changing the rules on a whim.
If you want to:
Land a backflip, AO puts a new hill out of the blue JUST on your way down. Look out!
Jump over a chasm, AO changes your speed and the chasm length and height JUST before you get there. Aww, you missed it!
Break a clay pot, AO puts it JUST in front of a rock. Almost!
Capture a Mysterious Radio, AO throws a ramp JUST in front of the radio, or lands the parachutes JUST before you land. So close!
The point is, the player does not play the game; the game manipulates the rules and environment (and therefore, the player) with caprice and arbitration to determine the outcome. If it “feels” like letting you win, you win. Good job! (huh??). If it “feels” like ending your run, you lose. Sorry! (huh??)
I LOVE THIS GAME, but I encountered a hilarious bug 5/5
This is a beautiful game and a great sequel to Altos Adventure. But I encountered a bug. I was flying very high with my wing suit and was being chased by a lemur. As a I flew over the chasm to escape (I couldn’t see the chasm but everything went slow so I could tell I crossed it) I saw the lemur floating in mid air in its running animation, not moving. I’m not saying this was bad, it actually made me laugh my *** off, I just wanted to point this out. 🙂
Game controls not ideal 3/5
This game is so nice to look at.
The controls are almost impossible to master. Seriously controlling the player is nearly impossible.
Keeps freezing 4/5
By God the good man
After unlocking maya the game tells me to switch to her and then when I’m in the game it freezes.
Not that good 1/5
Just bought it today and it turns out that this game is not that good. Night time is so difficult to see, too hard to do backflip, and it froze a few times on my phone when I was playing.
4 star 4/5
Amazing game, add some stuff 5/5
I love this game, it’s smooth and beautiful, with the sun setting in the background, but to make it even better please add something that happens if you hit a tropical bird that like a bunch of coins or a special power up.
5 stars not 4
Beautiful visuals, but I can’t enjoy them (freezing). 4/5
Every time I start a new game, it freezes within the first few seconds and restarts over and over. I haven’t really got to enjoy this game because of that. I have an iPhone 7+ and have tried turning off bluetooth or Power save mode, but nothings changing. Update soon?
Wingsuit problem!! 4/5
Ok I’m gonna get to the point the wingsuit randomly activates! It would be ok if this was a one time thing, but it’s not!!! I’m about to get a high score then pow wingsuit!!!! It happens a lot please fix!
Unplayable on appleTV 1/5
Doesn’t reliably track with the remote, making the game unplayable.
I will like a refund 5/5
Can I get a refund for the game thanks
Please add more items to buy 5/5
Love this game!!!!!!!! Played the first Alto all the way 3 times. Keep updating and adding new levels and items to buy, please!!!!!!!!! Also more games. I'll buy them all.
Hard to see at night 4/5
By Grace a fur
Very beautiful game! A great sequel to Adventure, however it becomes hard to see at night and things like rocks seem like the background. Maybe make it more blue tinted than black to represent nighttime?
Too dark and purple. 1/5
By Mike H Pedersen
Decided to change my review after playing for some time. The two biggest problems are the purple and dark. It’s hard to play this game in anything than total darkness if you want to see what you are doing. It’s just too dark and too dark most of the time. I’m actually surprised when it’s day in the game. It’s enjoyable but be prepared to learn to love purple and constant darkness.
Not For the Hearing Impired 2/5
Update: Upgraded to 2 stars. After some troubleshooting I figured out the game will freeze if Bluetooth is enabled. I suffer from hearing loss in one ear and wear a hearing aid that link to my phone. The oversight of the game working with Bluetooth is pretty disappointing considering you also can’t use Bluetooth headphones. Definitely not happy I paid $7 for the game for this to be an issue. Free games figured it out, and the previous Alto game works fine with Bluetooth. Hopefully this gets fixed. That said, the game once it works is beautiful. It is harder to backflip. The rotation seems slower than the previous game and pulling off a double is near impossible at times. Hopefully the next update sixes these issues. Would definitely give it more stars if these issues are addressed.
The game is completely unplayable. I’m lucky to get to the coins in the tutorial (roughly 6 seconds in). I’ve reset my phone, reinstalled and no luck. Disappointing and aggravating considering I paid for the game and it doesn’t work.
New Altos Journey request 4/5
By Keira the bull
My friend and I thought of an idea to have a new game called alto’s Journey. This game would include waterskiing and for the ramps, the side of a Volcano or a rock. The rock would be a barrier. Instead of the hot air balloons there could be a side of a cruise ship. The character could be catching dolphins if you want to say kid friendly. That is all thank you for your time
Please consider this new game
There are still a few bugs/glitches I’m having issues with. When you’re over a chasm (if you have wingsuit capability) sometimes the games says you’re dead before you actually were....
By Savage T.R.
It's just okay. The things that make people hail this game as one of the GOAT'S fall short for me. Even the mythical wings it... It's just not even that fun. There are tons of force failures in the game. By that I mean, there are charms that are impossible to pass no matter which player you use or how much speed you have.
It's very frustrating.
Great but... 3/5
Generally it’s a great game. Plays smoothly, controls work nicely and whatnot scenery is great. It would be nice if I could select if I want time to change. Sometimes I just want to play in day time. I’ve been playing off and on for a few weeks and I’ve got a few gripes. First and most annoying is the lemur. It’s seems that unless I’m doing a crazy amount of stunts he attacks. I’ve even been attacked in a backflip. I also purchased the full signal thingy. The barrels almost always drop at a time where they get missed. They literally always land behind the character. Then my only other grip is with how the challenges work. I think it would be nicer if you got new challenges as you completed each and not have to complete the triad before progress. I’ve been stuck on the darn double backflip bird of paradise for a week now. I’ve never gotten two birds together so I’m baffled as to how to complete that quest.
By Pork Rinds
I must admit that I love this game, when it works OK. The new tricks, like wall grinding and balloon bouncing, are fun. Unfortunately, with the additional Odyssey physics come additional glitches. Several times I have perished on a rope bridge immediately after a water slide for no clear reason. I have on occasion wing-glided directly into the ground only to pop out and slide as normal.
The real reason for the loss of two stars is that the screen has begun going black in the middle of play. Maybe this is a new challenge for level 41. I can tap on the screen and resume playing, but it will again go black a few seconds later. This makes for an unplayable experience. Too bad, because Adventure was as solid a game as there ever was. Simply disappointing.
Fun game with annoying issues 2/5
Level 46: Smash 3 rocks with stream boost in one run.
I’d love to if the game placed more than 3 rocks in the last 50 streams I’ve encountered.
Love the Game, but Choosing Not To Update 5/5
I thoroughly enjoy the game and have since passed all levels, but love riding the same wall more than once. Gets me the wingsuit waaay faster. Not updating to keep this ability.
This game is trash! Save your five dollars! 1/5
Skie Safari is way better compared to this game! I want a refund!
Great game, but the frame rate is low 3/5
This is a beautiful game and builds on everything alto’s adventure did right. However, unlike adventure, this game doesn’t run too well. The motion is not smooth - it’s more like 30 FPS as opposed to the 60 FPS that adventure got. This is running on an iPad Pro, which should be more than capable of handling the game.
Lv 53 is broken I think 4/5
By Patrick Wickham
Specifically, the achievement “smash a crate drop while it’s in the air” - no matter how many times I crush one before it hits the ground, it never triggers complete.
This is referring to the crates that come from the radio, right?
I’ve played a lot, but too dark, too much of the time 3/5
This game is great, but the overall “darkness/night” that seems to permeate most of my playing time makes the game annoying to play. Wish I could have more sunny blue skies. I understand the point of it, but it just makes it annoying to play for long periods. It also makes it almost impossible to play outside in sunlight.
This deserves five! But... 3/5
By JCK Account
...the developers might not read my response lol.
Still experiencing frame drops!
I’d imagine my current processor is fairly capable (A10X Fusion on the iPad Pro), but in areas with waterfalls (and when it’s raining?), performance slows.
If it’s not possible to further optimize the game, that’s cool. I just figured I’d leave an honest review.
Heck of a game. Thank you
OBLIGATORY TUTORIALS 1/5
You know, some people aren't BRAIN DEAD when it comes to figuring out a touch game. Give people the option before you shove a tutorial down their throats! I DONT WANT DUMB TUTORIALS!! I just wanted to get in the game and in the flow. You RUINED the game.
This is 2017, people who have iPhone's aren't that dumb.
Could have done better 3/5
By Brandon Slaght
Don’t get me wrong, this game is great, but I think the devs overlooked some stuff from Adventure.
Love the biome system but hate the goals associated with biomes, like the wall ride ones or water pool one. It’s already based on chance, and leaving the biome without completing the goal is just sad, since you need to spend time going through 2 more before you get back to the one that will give you the goal.
Weather is cool, but sometimes it gets way too dark to the point where I can’t see rocks. Text/UI also doesn’t turn white fast enough making stuff hard to read.
Lastly, the radio is cool too but I am always going too fast to actually catch anything it drops, which is pretty sad :(
Good variety - light level to low to enjoy 3/5
Great version of altos adventure, with more options for location, new mechanics for jumps, grinds and advancement. HOWEVER, over half of the game is in twilight, dark rain, dark sandstorms and at night. Combine this with a black colored character, dark backgrounds and low light levels means that most of the game is spent guessing what is going on, getting lost in the backdrop and hoping you can find your character. I haven’t seen daylight in days and when I do it lasts one or two runs then goes dark again. Please try to balance this as even with full brightness it is a dark and dreary experience.
Another lovely Alto game! 5/5
By John Nowak
I’m not much of a mobile gamer, but I played Alto’s Adventure quite heavily and eventually completed all of the levels. I’m enjoying Alto’s Odyssey to a similar extent and am happy for the minor improvements that have been made, especially wall riding!
Despite giving this five stars, I do have two gripes:
1. The game usually runs very well, but it sometimes stutters when I am experiencing poor network activity. In fact, it happens in the same location on my train ride into work every day where there is a bit of a cellular dead zone. Alto’s Adventure has the same issue. I’m not sure if this is an OS-level issue or something the developer can address, but it does make the game far less enjoyable when it happens.
2. The game’s design is such that you often have to choose between collecting coins and doing tricks. Given that doing tricks is the only interesting part of the game, this is a problem! I would love to see the levels or mechanics reworked such that you get coins for scoring points too, not just by collecting them in the level. I think this would help balance characters like Maya that move slowly (and thus encounter fewer coins) and naturally want to spend most of their time in the air (and thus fly right over pots and coins half the time).
Amazing + a few minor fixes 4/5
I love this game and even more so the soundtrack. With that here are a few changes that would earn the 5th star.
Compass- when you buy it to charge to use it. 1000 coins to pick a new biome? Feels like if I bought it I shouldn’t pay again to use it.
Point system - make these points add multipliers to coin counts. Get 10,000 points for a 2x coin multiplier. Right now the points mean nothing to me.
Helmets and pix axes - buy one use one for each run through. Not buy one and use it once and then it’s gone. They get more expensive for one use.
I play this game nonstop I just would like the items to work on their own without more coins spent, new biomes might be nice the ones implemented don’t feel different enough, what about an oasis biome with trees and jungle feel? Make the point system worth more than the random
Note: level 16 wall jump back flip over canyon. Zero canyons are spawning for me writhing 10,000 meters.
