Difficult to figure out, confusing and the mic never could pic up my voice no matter how loud I was.

    By maxben881012334
This has been my favorite way by far to learn languages. It makes it to where I genuinely look forward to piecing things together a little more each day. Thank you!
  • Not free 1/5

The advertise as free, but guy get one lesson free and then you have to pay for a monthly subscription to go any further. Wouldn’t recommend due to lying to get you to download the app.
  • good but bad 2/5

    By smhallie:)
its effective in teaching you languages quickly but it only gives you 1 lesson out of 10 in each unit for free..... you have to pay for the rest of the lessons...
  • Unclear 3/5

    By WWyser
The method may be great but the speech is so fast. If you can learn w Babbel you will certainly understand the language. I find it difficult to understand and comprehend. It’s a guessing game because it’s spoken so rapidly.
  • Amazing !!! 5/5

  • Good but don’t want to spend money 3/5

    By svbjtsygkjkgshljkgts4
The normal version is not very helpful because it only gives one lesson in each category.
  • It’s okay 3/5

    By Jenners0516
The app is alright, it’s clear and definitely a helpful learning tool... I do however wish there was more review, I want to keep reviewing but it only allows you to go through them once
  • Limited selection of languages 2/5

    By ScarlettFrey1995
Had a fairly limited selection of languages. Did not have the language I am trying to learn so downloading was a waste
  • Too hard! 3/5

    By ProActivities
This app does its job well, but the thing is, it get WAY too hard WAY too quick. Also, it puts things in the lessons that it didn’t teach. There should be a difficulty factor when you put in your age. Also, the lessons are WAY too long. Other than that, it’s pretty good!
  • Love Babbel 3/5

Babbel is great. But it is not completely free. I tried it. It did not work out.
  • Bob’s first time with Babbel 5/5

I’m loving it! What a great way to practice another language - especially during COVID -19!
  • hello 3/5

    By Addison_37441
i think it’s great but i wish there was a free service that had adds instead of monthly payment
  • Topics Are Not Useful 2/5

    By Shiralub
I am annoyed by the useless topics with ridiculously long words included in the early intermediate lessons. For example, I have no interest in applying for a job or attending track and field events. I wish the app allowed users to select topics that are more relevant. There is little explanation of grammar and the vocabulary increases in difficulty far faster than would be optimal for learning.
  • It’s ok 3/5

    By AV SFV
Babble is pretty good but once you try to the second lesson it will ask you to do a prescription and I don’t want that
  • Vocabulary and sentences 5/5

    By DInsights
I do better with the vocabulary and gender words. I need to work on speaking in sentences.
  • Good Lesson Structure, awful pronunciation lessons 3/5

    By RoderickCL
I like everything about the app except the lessons where I have to hold a button to province things. It’s fine on short one word things, but when it comes to longer sentences it really struggles to detect things properly. I think it’s a cadence/ timing thing. Sometimes I think they want you to pause in sentences and if you pause too long or short, they penalize you regardless of the accuracy of your pronunciation
  • I love it so far 5/5

    By potato face 😋
So far it has worked incredibly well for me
  • Glad I took a chance on this app 5/5

  • Bad 1/5

    By kattypup2009
It’s bad it didn’t have Japanese and I tried a different language but it sucked
  • Not helpful 1/5

    By Sellers Beware
I want to learn all the numbers, months, and basic words etc. before moving into the nuance of grammar. This is a very confusing path to learning French and it has not helped me. Very limited for teaching vocabulary.
  • Love the game Awesome game 5/5

    By Ace runs
It is an awesome game but when I first started the game it got a little boring. after a few hours so yeah it is a pretty awesome game I have to admit . The game really is awesome.
  • Great learning tool. Pronunciation tasks are rough tho 4/5

    By fix pronunciation
Amazing app for what it’s for however the pronunciation is kind of a problem for me. I really wish there was a way for me to see what words I’m not pronunciation correctly when it’s having me pronounce words in Spanish. It’s frustrating when the app doesn’t accept my pronunciation of a word it wants me to say and it won’t tell me where I’m making a mistake. This is room for improvement for a really good app
  • Fun and easy to follow 5/5

  • Its cool 4/5

    By Tloc182
I’m using this app to help me get started with Russian. I’ve wanted to learn for some time now which I’m doing. But I just sorta got thrown into it. Would’ve been nice to learn the alphabet first. Learn the sounds of each letter. Then maybe a simple hello and goodbye. Just for the first lessons (my opinion) I’m already having to finish sentences and spell out words I can’t even pronounce let alone spell lol. it’s just a bit much for a “newcomer”. I’m sure it’s a bit easier with other languages like Spanish. However, you can review and practice the lessons you’ve already completed as much as you like so that’s cool. It’s still a great app nonetheless. I’d recommend it to others.
  • Good. 4/5

    By Louisa I.
I like it! It’s a good way to learn a new language . When realizing that there was no Japanese (I’m trying to learn it) I was sort of disappointed. Do you think you could add Japanese? Thank you!
  • Recording/listening to my translation doesn’t work 2/5

    By Karen2k15
I just got the Babbel and subscribed for one year. I like the app, but the part where I speak into the mic does not work. I am pronouncing the words and phrases perfectly and it just keeps telling me it’s not right.
  • I love Babbel so much I subscribed for a lifetime 5/5

    By Buttergun
**Let me preface this by saying NOTHING GOOD IS EVER FREE. I see a lot of complaints about it not being free. Look, you’re a fool if you think you can learn a language for free. They give you a limited free trial so you can get an idea of how it all works! Don’t be dim! I’ve always wanted so much to be multi-lingual but high school classes weren’t helpful at all (a lot has changed in 30 years), and I paid a lot of money to attend courses over the years, only to drop out, feeling completely defeated only a week in. Babbel is revolutionary. They make language learning so fun that it’s hard for me to only do one lesson a day. I feel as if I’m playing a game. I forget that my objective is to learn. Some people play Best Fiends, but I play Babbel. And I chose Russian first (no specific reason why). I have learned so much in just a couple months, and I’ve learned it in a way that doesn’t at all feel like I worked toward it! The language is being so effectively embedded that I find myself thinking in Russian as I do mundane, daily tasks. And not only am I getting the phonetics of it, but even the alphabet and writing the Cyrillic script. It’s becoming second nature. I asked Babbel support a while back if they offer a deal if you subscribe to ALL languages, and sure enough, there is! I don’t know if it’s a regular offer but I received a code for a lifetime, all access subscription for $200. Look, I’m 47 and thought there was no hope of me ever learning a foreign language. If this works on me it’ll work for anyone who really wants to learn. In my opinion I’ve already gotten more than $200 worth of education from this app. I’ve spent at least $1500 over the years on numerous attempts at Spanish, French, and German, only to give up in the first levels. THIS WORKS! Now I do admit, it’s got me so hooked on learning Russian that I like to supplement Babbel with other language learning apps such as Drops. Drops is more word memorization through matching games, but also really fun and effective (I just use their free version for 5 minutes a day). Drops isn’t as comprehensive as Babbel, but I find it to be a fantastic companion app to help basic words stick. I tend to copy phrases to a notebook as I go through my Babbel lessons, thinking that writing in Cyrillic and sounding out the words as I go will also help. I also listen to Russian language podcasts casually, in the background as I’m working. I make no effort to listen closely. It’s like a test. A few hours after doing Babbel I’ll put a podcast on and with each passing day I recognize more of the words and phrases I hear. Learn your next language through Babbel. You won’t regret it!

  • Helpful information 4/5

    By Пащалста
Once I figured out that I needed to access Russian letters on my iPad keyboard, which was not in any Babbel instructions, I looked up how to do it and set it up. Babbel was very frustrating until I was able to accomplish this. Maybe that information will help others!
  • Better then Duolingo 5/5

    By JaxBorn
Doesn’t hold your hand like Duolingo does, allowing you to move though any on the levels at your own pace.
  • It beats duolingo 5/5

  • Cannot see advanced material 1/5

    By Algphd
I’m an intermediate speaker of Spanish and wanted to see if Babbel could improve my speaking. The app only shows introductory examples. The response from the developer was get a subscription. I will not until I can see an appropriate sample at my level.
  • Convenient but buggy in Spanish 3/5

    By Fanafoto
I like the interface and the convenience of being able to study whenever I have a moment. I have only been using it for one day but already I have two issues: the speech recognition is iffy at best and the app tends to freeze. When it does, the user has no choice but to start the whole lesson over again. There is no way to move up to the next level. When it happens twice in the same lesson, it is a huge waste of time. I reported the bug and it will be fixed. Otherwise I have no complaint so far.
  • Need a voice 3/5

The voice recognition is super bugging and can be very frustrating especially with longer sentences.

  • What a shame 1/5

    By ScaredSilly
I remember how much fun Babbel used to be when it was all free 😔
  • Not quite like they advertise 2/5

    By samantha4009
The program starts with non conversational words and is trying to teach from a basic grammar. I thought it would start with familiar things and move on from there. Some course problems are that it will expect you to know the spelling of the words right from the start and won’t want to move on until you get it correct. It works on phrases I can’t ever imagine using such as discussing my parents (they are deceased). Now I’m having issues where the app refuses to accept my answers when I type in the correct word and basically is stuck with no option to move on. So I can start that one over and hope it doesn’t get stuck again or just skip it. Plus the Spanish is not exactly what is spoken generally. Not happy so far.
