  • It keeps cutting me out it has trouble connecting and I can’t finish a lesson 1/5

    By Marlene0707
It keeps cutting out and not let me finish a lesson
  • Owen 1/5

    By owen2320
Just help me with vocabulary and communication. The last thing I need is a high school grammar class and games. Duo was good but their “experts” tried to fix something that was not broke.
  • Trouble with speech recognition 3/5

    By Cl657wa
I really like this language program except for the speech recognition. It rarely accepts what I say and says it’s wrong before I even get to say the phrase, so I skip it, which is frustrating. I don’t have any problem with the Duolingo speech exercises, so I don’t think the problem is with my pronunciation. $100 is a lot to pay to not have the speech functionality work.
  • Great at first but is frustrating and no longer useful 2/5

    By Brandon Breda
I have been using this app to learn Dutch for almost 4 months and I’ve come a long way, but as I delve deeper into the language the app is becoming less helpful. It is very vague on explaining sentence structure for the language and after 4 months of using the app daily, I still don’t understand how to form a complete sentence. I know I am a beginner, but I couldn’t speak the language to a native speaker if I tried. Just a couple phrases and single words which is pretty sad considering I’ve been dedicating myself for all of these months to atleast have a very basic conversation. The sentences I’ve learned I would never use in real life and are useless. As for the review portion, It will give me two new words in the same sentence but I can not tell which word I am supposed to be writing in the blank. Would be nice if they underlined the words in the English sentence to identify which word they were specifying. They do not break the word down near enough to suddenly throw an entire sentence at you where you only know a couple of words. They should start with phrases like, I like…I hate…I see…I saw…I said…I need…I want…Those are just a few examples of common ways to start a sentence but they don’t do that. Right away they start talking about subjects and things that are useless and void. Glad I can specify a kilo of cherries or how much a stranger hates books but can’t ask someone how much a bus ticket costs or how to describe the weather or even what someone’s hobby is??? I’ve spent two weeks just learning how to plan a birthday party. Like, WHY THOUGH? I’m not learning this language to move to the Netherlands and become a caterer! Also, when I use the speaking option in the review, it almost never picks up what I’m saying unless I exaggerate each syllable in a word (which is not how you would normally speak to someone), and It will say I am incorrect. I haven’t been as excited or interested in using this app anymore because I am frustrated and disappointed. I paid for a whole year, but unless it improves I plan on canceling it before it autorenews, which by the sound of the other reviews that’s what’s bound to happen.
  • Dictation 3/5

    By TXpatriot
Something is wrong with the app’s ability to listen when I am asked to dictate a sentence. Every time I am asked to speak it says I did it incorrectly. It’s Spanish, not mandarin. I promise I’m speaking the parts correctly.
  • Russian Learning 1/5

    By Korgoth1997
Tell me how am I supposed to answer questions in Russian letter without a Russian keyboard with letters? Pretty stupid!
  • Chapter 1 and not very good 2/5

    By chaiim
Just started so this review might be unfair, but so far it is just an advanced version of Duo Lingo. The pronunciations are fast and not broken down into easily repeated syllables leaving you guessing what the right pronunciation should be. There is also huge inconsistency between the male voice and female. Further, it is not a program that you can do while driving or just listening to. You must be active on your phone. This is a major drawback compared to a program like Pimsleur.

  • Customer service 1/5

    By Grtknight
The email that I registered with Babell has went away thanks to AT&T!! I have written customer service two emails requesting help with my sign in and password and I’ve not got a response. I have tried to call the helpline number 20 to 30 times and no answer. Watch out for this app. I paid for a year subscription and now for one month I have not been able to access my account.
  • Canceled subscription still charging!!! 1/5

    By iAmKevin07
Awful customer service. No way to contact directly. It’s a shame because the app works great to learn a new language. However, I canceled my membership in April of 2022, and am still getting charged! Unacceptable.

  • Paying my bill getting no service 1/5

    By fwilsonwftx
App gives me unknown error for last few days
  • Only for the dedicated 5/5

    By Theoriginalsap
Use it every day and you’ll have it down. So worth it if you’re dedicated. But the lessons are simple, and if you score horribly you just move on. Then the review just repeats instead of guiding you back to the lesson that you need to repeat. So if you are going to use it every day then get it, but if you’re going to dabble, don’t waste your time.
  • You have to yell for the system to pick up on some words 1/5

    By horrible responses
No matter how many times you repeat some words, the system won’t acknowledge unless you YELL into the microphone. And yes, sound is turned up to maximum.

  • Great! 5/5

    By jp515c
    Thank you Babbel! 🙏
  • Getting worse 1/5

    By v.daniell
Support is non-existent. OSX version is easier to navigate than iOS App, but speech recognition is a joke. It can’t understand single syllable easy to pronounce words about 50% of the time. If you want to spend all your time battling software glitches rather than learning, this is the app for you.
  • review of ap 1/5

    By F2345678910
I am struggling with your ap. First there is no space key so my correct answers that are not spaced correctly are considered wrong also i am having trouble rven openning your sp and i am confused about when to use the mas or menos and tan. It seems like you skipped important information and i feel lost.
  • Good luck getting them out of your accounts 1/5

    By Frost__2001
When this app doesn’t serve the purpose you need because of learning disabilities, they make it almost impossible to delete your account and stop themselves from repeatedly billing you.. Still waiting on a refund and an answer.

  • New lessons 1/5

    By Fallout_Assassin
I’ve been using Babbel for a while now and was very impressed with its features and lessons, but recently I haven’t been able to view the next lesson as it shows a blank white screen and nothing more. I can’t even back out of it to go to another lesson. I have to rely on the website version now until this is fixed. Not happy whatsoever with this.
  • Having to say a phrase over and over again 3/5

    By rainbowid
I can’t tell how I’m miss pronouncing Gracias. Its really not that hard i even roll my r in the word and it still won't pick it up. This hugely disappointing as i want to learn to speak but if it has a hard time just understanding me here how is it gonna understand me further down the way
  • Keyboard 2/5

    By fghfsf
It says it will change my keyboard to Russian but then switch’s it back to English so I can’t do most of the lessons
  • System Struggles 2/5

    By Anjelice
I have studied Spanish for 4 years and have pretty good pronunciation. First lesson I did had no problems but as soon as I hit the second and third lessons it’s like it couldn’t understand me. I have to try to pronounce it EXACTLY like the speaker does whether that is with a slight lisp or just specific pronunciation. It is very activating and I’m definitely gonna get my money back if half the lessons are failed only because it says I’m not perfect.
  • Good but has room to improve 3/5

    By Teacher/Director
Worth the money, but could be improved. There is some good content in this app. It’s very systematic. Lessons are in nice digestible units. You can repeat lessons but its sometimes hard to navigate and figure out how. I still don’t understand the reviewing completely. The native speakers help a lot. One thing that could be improved about the content is in reviewing. The reviews are often just one word at a time. I don’t really need to review the word Americain and try to pick that out of several words that are nothing like it.And in many cases the multiple-choice answer to the review question is similarly very obvious. If you choose flashcards, especially when you get up into the intermediate level, you were sometimes asked to recall very long sentences. I have done these lessons on my iPhone, my iPad, and my computer (online). I prefer to use my computer because then I can use a keyboard and type very quickly the answers. But on my computer, even using a good microphone, it does not recognize what I’m saying much of the time, even when I am saying it correctly. I have to say things three or four times and perhaps it’ll catch on, but often it does not. When I try using my Bluetooth AirPods, I can’t hear anything, and it can’t hear me. And then sometimes I know I missed a pronunciation, and it shows correct. So speech recognition is a problem. So there’s nothing I can do except stop and start the lesson again. It seems to work best on my iPhone, but that’s my least favorite option for typing because the keyboard is so small. I have the lifetime subscription, and I think it’s worthwhile. I just hope they’ll work out all these bugs.

  • Perfect 5/5

    By Lawd0gg001
I tried Rosetta Stone in the past that was a waste of money and effort. This is the real deal
  • Real life conversation 5/5

    By Kfrenchie
Babble is much more focused on real life convos. Other apps teach silly phrases to learn grammar, but Babbel is much more useful in learning to have a real conversation! Challenging and helpful.
  • After purchasing the lifetime subscription Babbel tries to default 1/5

    By RiccardoPG
My problem is that I have very little tolerance for agreements that aren’t honored. Obviously, I find the APP useful, or I wouldn’t care. Having been offered the “lifetime subscription”, and purchased it, the settings>restore purchases section only credits me for a year, so they can keep charging me when my expiration date renews. Maybe I’ll forget or tire out and just let them collect the annual subscription plus my lifetime purchase. That will sure help Babbel accomplish their business objective! After 5 correspondences, with screenshots and receipts from PayPal no less, they can’t seem to honor their part of the sale. They had no problem taking my money though. They claim that I paid through Apple, and they have no control over Apple, but I paid with PayPal. Perhaps their support staff is just lazy, or maybe they (Lothia, Ania, Aleks) can’t comprehend English. The ultimate irony from a language APP.Lothia said that my renewal date will be 100 years from March 2022, but that never happened. The same screenshot only a week ago was blank. Now it shows my yearly purchases with the exception of my lifetime purchase in March of course. Really?! This is either sheer incompetence or a scam. Be forewarned before taking them up on a lifetime purchase offer.
  • Good but… 3/5

    By macandzach
I like the app. I also use another app and find babble is a quite better. I like that it focuses on typical discussion and phrases that you will likely need to use as opposed others that focus on vocabulary (I don’t need to ask someone what time they take a shower). The one negative and very frustrating issue that I have is when it comes to speeding. It struggles to hear what I’m saying for even the most basic words. For whatever reason I can’t get it to recognize ‘recto’ when I speak it. I only get about 1/4 of the phrases recognized. The other app I use doesn’t have any issue hearing me. I’d give it a 5 star rating if the speaking function worked better.
