Description

BogBus is a real-time bus tracker for rural Ireland. It tells you where your Bus Éireann or TFI service actually is, when it's actually coming, and how late it actually is. Then it takes the mickey while you wait. Built for the people standing at a pole in the middle of nowhere wondering if the bus still exists. If you live in Dublin, you don't need this. If you don't, this is for you. WHAT IT DOES • Live bus positions. Tap a stop, focus on the bus you want, watch it crawl across the countryside on a small live map. • Lateness called out honestly. "Running 4 minutes late." "Running 27 minutes late (and the crowd goes mild)." "Status: mythological." • Live Activity. Lock your phone and the bus you're tracking lives on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, with a rolling countdown to arrival in your bus's status colour. Auto-ends when the bus is due. • Weather at your stop. Conditions and minute-by-minute rain forecast for the stop you're tracking, plus a separate rain warning for your current location so you know if you'll get wet stepping out the door. • A commentary engine that reacts to context. As your bus's status changes, as the weather turns, as the minutes drag on, the app passes comment. Hundreds of lines, weighted by bus state, weather, time of day, and how long you've been standing there. • A dwell timer with a memory. When you arrive at your stop, the app counts how long you've been waiting and offers a fresh observation every minute, ranging from gentle resignation to cosmic horror. It also remembers how many times you've stood at this stop in your life, and quietly judges you for it. • Sibling-stop awareness. Towns like Ennistymon publish multiple stop IDs under the same name on different routes — BogBus merges them so you never miss a bus by picking the wrong pole. • Offline-aware. When your phone loses signal at a rural stop — and it will — the app keeps showing the last known data. • Privacy first. Your location stays on your device. No tracking SDKs. No analytics. No ads. No accounts. WHAT IT IS NOT • Not a corporate transit app. A Generation X computer scientist living in Ireland built a bus tracker for rural Bus Éireann that makes you reflect on your life choices while you wait in the rain. • Not for Dublin commuters. Dublin already has its own apps. This isn't one of them. • Not affiliated with Bus Éireann, the National Transport Authority, or Transport for Ireland. It uses the public real-time data feed they publish. • Not a complaint mechanism. It's a dignity preservation tool. There's a difference. THE TONE BogBus is the app equivalent of the Irish ability to find humour in misery. It doesn't pretend the bus service is good. It doesn't pretend the weather is nice. It doesn't pretend you'll get home on time. It tells you the truth and makes you laugh while it does it. If you've ever stood at a stone wall outside Ballinasloe at half five on a Wednesday in November and wondered whether the universe was personally targeting you — yes, it was, and now there's an app that knows. REQUIREMENTS iOS 17 or later. iPhone only. A patient disposition. A grim sense of humour. The acceptance that the bus, like all things, will arrive when it arrives.
