Autoplay and header video layout are terrible 2/5
I love the coverage ( even though many things are covered very thinly and/or way too positively ) but the bandwidth wasting autoplay video stuff with that frustrating little close arrow that needs to be slid up just right, ever time, needs to go.
Tech app 5/5
Great articles on tech stuff
Best tech information around 5/5
Love this app and website too.
Amazing Tech App for users 5/5
By Game_ Beta
I love this app. It has the most amazing things to see. Like the technology, politics, etc. I very enjoy this app because I have ideas for my future life. Also it keeps me up to date on new tech. Which I really love this app. 📱💡📡⌚️🖥💻⌨️🖲🖱📟. All these emojis represent me and myself. All technology is about who I really am.
Please inform me
Dong is fun to listen to and gives the best information and summations!
Best technology news app!❤️
5 star review 5/5
CNET has Been the tech site for years! Love everything you cover during CES
Much better, but still one major issue 3/5
The app seems to pretty much work now like it should, so kudos to the devs for resolving the issues. HOWEVER, there is still one major problem: the app will never "remember" what article you were reading when you closed it or switched to another app, and will refresh to the top of the main feed when you come back to it. Huge pain. My rating would be 4-5 stars otherwise.
Please keep up the good work!
Brutal update to app - was getting better 2/5
Jan 5 Update. Not much has changed for the better. Dropped from 3 to 2 Stars. But on the negative side, articles that were read days or weeks ago keep showing up in the feed. Also, open article and play the video, it’s often like a box of CrackerJack’s, a surprise is waiting for you! I just played a video thinking I was going to see David Carnoy review Pioneer wireless headphones, instead got an old video about an Alexa or Google speaker. I wouldn’t care if the videos were ad free like they were 5 years ago, but this is just deceptively getting readers to watch a 15-30 second ad, kind of sad.
Also, what’s the obsession with Asian products we can’t even get in the U.S.? I used the U.S. version, why waste reader’s time looking at an article, only to discover the product is not available here? We are in an era where people are tying to control time using apps, but you waste our one with the issues outlined here.
April 29 Update. Wow, no more Brian Tong and Chris M at CNET either. I noticed Chris went out of his way in his goodbye column to mention the former Managing Editor who hired him, but no mention of the current Managing Editor who has overseen the loss of numerous great, former, CNET contributors.
Question for CNET.
1) Have the 20 or so great features and reporters been lost to cut cost, or does management actually think the site is better and more interesting today? Before you answer, look at the reviews the last 6 months, not many 4 or 5 stars.
BTW, not sure this is the proper place for this critique, but since you no longer allow comments from iPads, this is the place to express opinions.
Feb. 19 Update. Raised from 1 star to 3 stars. Progress is being made, especially nice to be able to save articles, and videos are easier to find. Still need to work on some issues below, and also crashing issue, especially videos that crash and make you watch ad again to finish video. FYI, can’t log in on iPad, or at least isn’t obvious not to log in.
I've been a loyal reader since I got my first iPad about five years ago. First, they have ended many of their best features like Dong NGO, Bridget Carey updates, the 404, and How to videos. Now they refresh the interface. They eliminated saving articles...great idea...nobody wants to save some articles mid-week and look at them during free time on the weekend, right? They also removed the ability to search for videos and articles. After purging great staff the last couple years, one of the last interesting features is Brian Tong's AppleByte. Wish I could find it to watch in the next couple of days, but you removed the ability to search for subject articles or writer/reviewers. The new interface is nice, but how stupid can you be as a news organization to remove ability to search for and save articles? Sorry Chris Matuszak, I like a lot of your quirky stories, but I'm not going to open every article hoping to see one of yours. BTW, half the articles have to be opened at least twice to get them to load. Needless to say, I am disappointed.
CNET is Helpful 5/5
CNET is most always helpful when researching and comparing equipment that one is considering for purchase.
The Best App for Tech and CE News 5/5
My first experience with CNET was when I was going to purchase the Galaxy Note 4. Because of the awesome video, I was able to confirm that it was indeed the size I wanted with the features I needed. It continues to provide concise, up-to-date info in a timely format as well as thoughtful, informative articles on a variety of topics. The best!!
Really Very Really So Bad 1/5
By will this even send?
Diagonal line? Why waste screen space? And battery too with white backgrounds? Don’t leave the app to do something else and try to return to finish reading an article, cause your chances of the app rebooting (at least on iOS) are about as good as death and taxes (okay, this has actually improved, but it still happens if you switch to an app that uses more than a modicum of memory). The in the past app handled videos, and photos !!!, way better, to say the least. Years ago you could watch a vid, while reading a different article. Photos and video, people. Seriously?!! Many more painful points to make, but this waste has been enough time to take.
It’s a horrible app, considering the size and power of the company from which it comes, and the freakin industry it covers!!! Does anyone test the app??? Sea net, sky net, whatever it is, is for information/specs. You think you can trust their opinions?
Update December 2018... Still horribly confounding : ( Was much better years ago, not great, but much better. Ads are much easier to stomach if they pay for a great app. Love getting through the ad on a video that looks like (the image behind the play button being from the article) it’s about the article of interest only to be a victim of bait and switch and realize it’s for something completely unrelated like a blender.
At least this review is making a difference. Okay, it’s not : |
BUT, now if you scroll away from the white background you can find out what time it is!! That took, what, a year?
Is there a way to go back to the app from about 2 years ago?
Closed captions 1/5
Why show such disrespect for hearing impaired? Looks like nice videos but no closed captions so no idea what’s going on. After all it’s 2018 and most sites seem to care about hearing impaired
Promised CC would be on videos that were several days old but still never on Apple news. Even after several days. This should be a no brainer
Looks like developer chooses which reviews to respond to
Seldom do you get what you are searching for. Very disappointing! Used to be a great app, not anymore.
Cnet is an awesome up to catch up with tech news all around the world. 5/5
I have been using CNET for a year now and I have to say I have been impressed both by the app and the content. This is an awesome platform for all tech lovers out there!
How j 5/5
You huh hhnuhb by hyhhyyy n
Great app 5/5
Solid app, best for my daily tech news
Same stuff over and over 1/5
Same articles show up over and over. They keep getting reposted days or even weeks later. Very stale content and most of the articles look like sponsored content. Nothing good or worth reading
Needs font adjustment option... 5/5
Please, larger font size is necessary to senior subscribers.
Visual impairment makes larger text options mandatory.

I have revised my review from awful to great. They fixed the app so it now runs well on my iPhone and iPad. I enjoy reading the tech news and the occasional great deal offered on tech devices.
Update. I still enjoy the app but find it very annoying to use. At some update it was changed so it continues to load data and updates even after you are browsing the articles. The screen hardly ever stops moving. Articles jump from column to column and pages shift up and down. Everything jumps and you have to scroll around to find where you were before it jumped. Hate that. Screen should lock until I ask for it to update. This is on my iPad Pro.
Bose blunder 1/5
Hey This app is nothing but a sales platform. Might as well go to amazon site.
Went to search Bose new sound bar... forget about it. Waste of time.
Sorry but marketing took form over function.
Disappointed in Florida.
Currently broken. Will not go past the loading screen, even when connected to WiFi.
Crash Crash Crash 1/5
Need to update this app. Kept saying that I have no connection to internet. Bug error?
Low Quality and Buggy 1/5
For an app related to technology the developers of this app I doing a very poor job at making it streamlined and less buggy.
I’ve been using CNET reviews for many years but never seem to be enjoying the performance of the website or the app due to technological bugginess.
Terribly slow 2/5
And the search function needs radical improvement.
Many videos & pictures that don’t work 1/5
I have high bandwidth but also high latency and jitter. Videos don’t load. I see error messages. Pictures don’t load. Surprisingly, it all works fine from Safari. So, I will have to stop using this frustrating app and just use Safari to go to the CNET website.
Love It 5/5
I love this app. Easy-to-read display, up-to-date info on phones, tablets, movies, software and all that. An essential addition to your app collection.
Awesome application 5/5
Always informative & helpful
Video auto play on every article? Why. 3/5
Way to underscore the notion that nobody reads anymore. I’m tired of trying to read something and always having to swipe up to dismiss the video every single stupid time. What design genius was in charge of that? Clearly one without sympathy or forethought to add a setting to turn it off, and be considerate of other people.
Same Old Thing 1/5
Cyber Monday deals announced.
Oh. Wait. It’s just Black Friday non-deal garbage on repeat.
Very Crashy - still. 1/5
The latest version crashes on me on start up, right after the splash screen. :-(
Using an iPhone 6 running the latest iOS 8.
Kind of makes you lose all respect for a tech company that can't release a solid technical app.
Update: now running iOS 12, (i. e. Years later) and this app still crashes out on me almost every time I use it.
How embarrassing for them.
My Review 4/5
I would score higher, but recent performance issues have left me with crashes and not starting up properly. I think bug fixes will fix the problem. Still a huge Cnet fan.
A couple of months later, I find the bug fixes, for the most part fixed. I still find the app opening slow at various times. Both IOS versions iPad and iPhone. Nothing seems to crash.
Great but... 4/5
The one thing I wish from them is more information on the phone and it’s sidekicks. (Examples: headphones)
Horrible app and "news" article are garbage 1/5
Don't waste your time. Biased garbage not worth anyone's time. Look elsewhere for a real tech news app or website
CNET GIVES SUCH Accurate information on our upcoming phones TVs I really like trying to get out there and I’m so grateful for this app
Atrocious experience on the iPhone 1/5
Do you guys even test your own app before releasing it to the public??? You can’t play any videos without the app spins and spins and spins and spins... very frustrating!! It doesn’t matter if on a high speed WiFi at home or on cellular network. Disappointing experience.
Love them...want to work here! 5/5
The app works great! Reviews are reliable. Have heavily depended on CNET.com reviews for years!
Love this app! 5/5
By SUTTON DEAN
The tech updates are always on the dime and very informative! I also find the reviews/news interesting but not boring or bland.
Why 2 apps? 3/5
I don’t get why there are 2 apps - should be only one, confusing and both seem half baked
Great News 5/5
I love CNET but the apps design of weird 3/5
By Ofri W
And the videos on top are quite annoying in their current form (auto play, 2 swipes to dismiss)
The app is really good, but every time I get a notification on a article I wanna read, in the app, it’s just a skeleton screen. Nothing loads
iPhone XR rewiew 4/5
Please don’t assume everyone knows everything you are talking about as you speed by . Slow down a bit. Don’t zip by words that someone might not be familiar with and can’t look up because they aren’t articulated clearly . Otherwise glad you are giving the reviews!
EXCEPT the XR review where the silly Girl spent forever playing with the colors and seemed to go on forever ! Taking pictures of herself etc. that was too slow, and elementary child stuff.
CNET provides info on anything thats worthwhile~ 5/5
The best app 5/5
Well fir all the news about new items its the best way to keep myself informed on all electronics keep the best job up
No CC 1/5
No close captioned on.
Stupid UI 1/5
By Ramin baran
Since the stupid new design I removed this miscreation of an app, and once in a while I come back to check to see if they have fixed it yet... but no, it’s the same worthless stupid app that they destroyed. Literally everything is bad! Nothing makes sense and it’s a terrible application
