All Sports All the Time 1/5
This app consistently features sports stories over actual news stories. The notifications are horrible, too. I haven’t found a setting that doesn’t send 5+ pointless “breaking news” stories a day- most of which are (surprise!) sports stories.
Love Desmoines Register 5/5
By advocating for change
Thanks for this article Black And whites smoke Marijuana at the same rate African-Americans are incarcerated more than whites .
Citizen John Cain 4/5
By getreal: usefacts
Fact check on Kim Reynolds campaign ad claiming Iowa that under her admin Iowa has been among the nation’s leaders in personal income growth.
Actually, Iowa has had negative growth in personal income for the last two years.
Also ads against Cindy Axne in another race claim she “supports criminal aliens”
This is ridiculous and simply untrue!
New tactics to get money out of you 1/5
I hate the new tactic of only letting you read a few paragraphs of story and the demanding $5 a month to read the rest! Oh, you still have to deal with all the ads, but they want your money. It’s amazing other media outlets can provide top stories for free, but the USA Today rag wants more money. About to delete this app!
A Video Based App at Best 1/5
Convoluted, not user friendly, little writing of merit. Primarily a video app for advertising.
Page crashes when video is embedded in article 1/5
The videos are fine when that's all that shows, but when the video is included with other content, the page freezes when the whole article loads and the play icon shows on the video.
Whoever controls the notifications needs to understand the difference between “breaking news” and every story they post on social media. As a new resident to Des Moines, I was very excited to see the app had the option to select which notifications you’d like, but they obviously don’t honor your request.
Terrible app 1/5
By Plymouth wareham
This app is awful. It doesn’t work well with a password protection program. When I log on through my password protection program, it takes me to the manage account section. If I click on the register link at the the top of that section, it brings up news from multiple dates and doesn’t even have the date at the top of the story. And sometimes I get to a place where I am asked to log in again. I want to read today’s paper! I want to have one log in place that gives links to today’s paper, archives and search, and subscription management,
Ads ads ads 1/5
By tired of the dog
This was a decent app now all you get is a picture of a dog from a Purina puppy chow as that intrudes on the articles you are reading about every 20 seconds or so, should not happen on a paid app.
DSM Register 4/5
How to Jeep up with the local news while traveling
Register Review 5/5
One of the best papers in the nation. Liked it better when Register was in morning and Tribune in evening
Des Moines subscriber 1/5
This App is the worst newspaper app on my phone! I can’t enter the app even when I put in my email address & password. It says I have an account but it won’t me in unless I use Facebook. Finally I go the App Store daily & can read through the app in the App Store until I hit the limit for the app. Even when I attempt to sign in it won’t allow me full unlimited access despite being a delivery subscriber for a decade! I can read newspapers from around the world that I subscribe to, but not the Des Moines Register!
Please add a search function 3/5
This format lacks a search function. No matter how wonderfully you organize content, users still will want to search by keywords, too. Please add.
Poor App 2/5
This app is clumsy at best and keeps asking for renewal though I have done that— almost every time I log on. So, to read the articles, I have a 5 minute navigation through strange pages. Sometimes I don’t get on at all.
I also am now being directed to Gannett since I also have another Gannett digital subscription.
I think I get quicker information from Google so likely I’ll quit this subscription.
Works great good reading but I have to sign in two to three times a week reminds me my trial is up
I sign in again and goes away says I have full access but continues to count my articles does need work
Very Pleased with DR app & Format 5/5
I feel that the app functions very well and the layout is user-friendly. I believe that the Des Moines Register provides a balanced format and that the articles or relevant nationally and locally.
Great to keep up with all things Des Moines while away 5/5
By Allen Coppock
Got the ap to keep in touch with all things Des Moines while I'm living in another state. ( Tennessee ) .
It kinda makes me miss home! It's quick , easy, and organized well.
DM Register Newspaper App 5/5
By Sports Nut in Des Moines
I enjoy it on a regular basis. It's very convenient and informative.
Love the app! 4/5
I'm a great fan of this app as it allows me to keep up with the news and sports while I'm on the go. Easy to use and, more importantly, works well on all my devices!
Great paper 5/5
I've been reading the Des Moines for over 50 years. There is no carrier for mu neighborhood so I get it by mail. Even reading it one day late is still a pleasure I'm not going to forgo! The sports are essential.
Des Moines Register is Great! 5/5
By Liberty Reader
I enjoy the real time updates. The app is easy to use. It keeps me up to date with state wide news. It has in depth stories about what is happening in our State's government.
Awesome paper 5/5
I really enjoy the whole paper. I have two favs though, Dan Finney and your two cents worth.
Great App! 5/5
I've been reading the Register here and also the print edition. It gives you a wonderful way to keep up on Iowa news. Easy to read and very convenient.
Des Moines Register fan 4/5
By Register fan
I subscribe to DSM Register Sunday paper but enjoy reading it daily online, especially the front page & opinion page. It is enlightening & sometimes funny! We can all learn from others if we so choose!
Love this app! 5/5
By FCS Fan
Keeps me up to date each days as to what is going on in the state and around the country! Use it often!
Too Many Notifications 2/5
If I only have Breaking News notifications turned on, I shouldn't be getting a dozen push notifications a day. Tone it down a notch or two.
Lost quality 1/5
I loved the notifications and getting the news fast. But after a month it is now making me pay a $10 dollar monthly subscription to read the articles associated with the headlines. I can get news anywhere.... I'm not about to pay for it.
Up to date info 5/5
By Ross Quintero
I enjoy reading sports articles posted by Aaron Young and the rest of the Des Moines Register staff. Their info is up-to-date and interesting to read. I choose The Register over Other news competitors to hear about news in Des Moines and the State of Iowa.
If you're not interested in non-headline sports . . . 1/5
I hate this app. I've removed it from my phone, iPad and computer. I now just go to the web site. I'm tired of looking for the news and it's ALL sports. I'm a sports fan but I want all news. Try again folks.
Good App 5/5
Works well for me. I use it to read some stories before they are printed. Really like it for Iowa and ISU sports.
Travel a lot. Keeps me up with things happening in Iowa while I'm away.
Des Moines Register App is Great 5/5
By Katherine Sargent
I like the way it notifies me as soon as the day's paper is available and pulls up videos that go with the stories (for example, footage of high school basketball games).
Enjoy it 5/5
By baby wak
Like to read first thing in the morning with my coffee to see what is happening in iowa and how the legislature is ruining the state
My god you reviewers are kind people! This app stinks.
Cannot comment on articles.
When I open it a pop-up tells me this version is no longer supported , leaves me no option but to click," OK", then takes me to the Apple store where Apple notices that that version is " Installed", and clicking Open sends me back to the original app which now sort of works but still stinks....
Great news and traffic updates 5/5
The traffic updates I use everyday

Register This 5/5
By Bob see twin
I love the Des Moines Register. It's my lifeline to my Iowa family.
Take a lesson from The NY Times 1/5
This is one of the worst newspaper apps I use. The app should take a lesson from The NY Times website which is like reading the paper as it constantly updates its self. The Register website is a comic book edition of the paper with far too many videos and pop up ads. I only visit the site if I have no other choice because I don't have the paper in hand. The website ruins a good paper. Does the Register want to be a real paper online or an Instagram version of itself?
Good way to keep up with local news.
Great way to follow the news 5/5
We use the site during the week when we don't get the print version and also to keep up with local events when we are traveling. While earlier versions had some issues, the current version of the app is easy to use and well-organized.
Notifications are terrible 2/5
Overall a decent app, but the "breaking news" notifications are awful. I should not get 10+ notifications a day for non breaking news material. Turned notifications off.
DM Register 5/5
The Register helps keep me informed about my hometown.
Staying in Touch 5/5
I'm living in CA now but enjoy staying in touch with Hawkeye Land.
Love having access to more news 5/5
And the notifications are great.
Ad Problem 2/5
New problem with automated video ads when I pay for subscription.
Good app 5/5
This is an easy to use news app. It allows me to quicly see the top stories and keep up with high school sports.
Too many pop ups 2/5
App used to be responsive and easy to use. Now there are too many pop ups
Video Ads Run Non-Stop 1/5
I'm a paying customer and every time I scroll the stupid video ads for some car dealer I will never shop at keeps popping up without touching anything. If this doesn't get fixed I won't be renewing my subscription.
So handy and trouble free 5/5
Really appreciate how responsive and easy to navigate this app is.
