DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser App

Privacy, simplified. At DuckDuckGo, we believe the Internet shouldn't feel so creepy, and getting the privacy you deserve online should be as simple as closing the blinds. Our app provides the privacy essentials you need to seamlessly take control of your personal information as you search and browse the web, no matter where the Internet takes you: • Escape Advertising Tracker Networks — Our Privacy Protection will block all the hidden trackers we can find, exposing the major advertising networks tracking you over time, so that you can track who's trying to track you. • Increase Encryption Protection — We force sites to use an encrypted connection where available, protecting your data from prying eyes, like ISPs. • Search Privately — You share your most personal information with your search engine, like your financial, medical, and political questions. What you search for is your own business, which is why DuckDuckGo search doesn't track you. Ever. • Decode Privacy Policies — We’ve partnered with Terms of Service Didn't Read to include their scores and labels of website terms of service and privacy policies, where available. As you search and browse, the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser shows you a Privacy Grade rating when you visit a website (A-F). This rating lets you see how protected you are at a glance, dig into the details to see who we caught trying to track you, and learn how we enhanced the underlying site's privacy measures. The Privacy Grade is scored automatically based on the prevalence of hidden tracker networks, encryption availability, and website privacy practices. Our app provides standard browsing functionality including tabs, bookmarks, and autocomplete. In addition to strong Privacy Protection as described above, we also packed in some extra privacy features into the browser itself: • Fire Button — Clear all your tabs and data with one tap. • Application Lock — Secure the app with Touch ID or Face ID. Too many people believe you simply can’t expect privacy on the Internet. We're fighting to change that, and have made it our mission to set a new standard of trust online. Install DuckDuckGo and take back your privacy! About Us: Device Privacy Tips: More Privacy Education: Our Privacy Policy: This app is open source at You can always reach us via email at [email protected] We'd love to hear from you!

DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser app reviews

  • If you're not compatible with my phone, don't offer and update 1/5

    By randallkerr
Apparently you're app is no longer compatible with the iPhone 5, so make it stop offering an update to me. You're ruined auto-updates for my phone and will be deleted if you don't fix this soon.
  • Love the idea behind DuckDuckGo 3/5

    By ev3030
Its great to have a browser that prioritizes privacy especially since Google just grows bigger ever day and watches everything you do. However on just the pure application itself; I do notice that it is slower than Safari most of the time. Also it would be nice to have a refresh icon already in display instead of tapping around. I do feel like the fire icon can be minimized to size with the other bottom icons. That being said I love the app and think it would greatly be improved with better interface features and navigation.
  • The only browser you should ever use! 4/5

    By ladyicculus
I admit, I'm a DuckDuckGo fanatic. I use it on every device I have (and have also persuaded my parents to start using it). The iOS mobile app is great. Howwwwwever, I do have a suggestion for the app. It would be FANTASTIC to be able to “Open Tab in Background” like [the dreaded] Safari, vs. “Open Link in New Tab” which opens said link in the foreground, which makes you then have to go to your “Open Tabs” section, scroll all the way back to the top tab, where all of your search results are. It does get annoying and a bit frustrating having to do this every time you want to open a link without losing your search. Other than that, love it!
  • 5 stars if you add full screen option! 4/5

    By will1948
Please, please, please add a full screen button so the top and bottom screen bars can go away to utilize the full screen for viewing websites, images, etc. awesome app!
  • New version is a mess 1/5

    By ltrtiger
Nice new look, but it's slower than mud and stalls frequently. Pretty new visuals but it's no longer functional unless you've got the patience of Job. Even removed and installed. No improvement. Time to find another search engine. Too bad. Edit: just installed latest update in the hope they had corrected things. Sadly, it took a full 2 minutes to complete a search on my iPad. Looks like a failure. Deleting and going with Startpage. It's rock solid, no frills and fast. Wasted enough time with Duck. Edit x 2: yet another update but no improvement. Still over 2 minutes to get search results. App remains broken and a no go. Startpage still a much better choice. Edit x3: March 2018. Still hopelessly slow on iPad 3. Either the app just won't function as it stands on the older devices or the developers don't care about older devices working with this app. I surrender. A once trusted and oh so useful app has been removed and I'll be sticking with Startpage. Bye bye duck.
  • App icon 4/5

    By Jaqlyn's Beautiful Garden
Your app icon does not show on my iPad screen - anywhere. Do I need to uninstall & reinstall?
  • Like it! 4/5

I've used DDG as a search engine for some time now, but I thought I'd give their browser a shot. I like the dark theme, the simple layout, the crisp look of the web pages it displays, and the fire button at the bottom, if I need it. The only thing is, the browser is as slow as Christmas in loading pages and sometimes crashes as a result. However, this can be viewed as a great tool to teach patience in our high-speed, want-everything-this-instant society. But the best benefit of the app is being able to view web pages minus the annoying and sometimes disturbing ads, pop-ups, redirections, and web garbage many sites come with by default. Thank you for that. Overall, I like it. Good job, DDG, and keep making the app better.
  • Got rid of internet vermin 5/5

    By lamotteskiddalyboomboom
This app got rid of those awful ads that infest the sides of my on line newspapers. No more useless shaver ads. I’m now running Facebook thru the Duck app. It’s easier to read. All you see is posts on the main page. If you want to see other crapola you can click on an icon. I also like seeing the rating system at the top right. It’s easy to clear the browser record by clicking on a flame icon. I wish the Duck had an email function. Interested to see where they go with their product line.
  • It’s the best browser available and you can trust it 5/5

    By Mateo_ross
....let’s hope they never sell out.. Don’t ever sell out DDG!!!
  • Super! 5/5

    By Иллжоаро
I like it, better than chrome and Mozilla
  • Help 5/5

    By Eddymac3
    I’m fine now.
  • Without the news feed, is just another browser 2/5

    By iona 6
I use Duck Duck Go and StartPage almost exclusively for search on all platforms, and I used to love this app. Without the news feed function, I can use Duck Duck Go for the search function in any number of iOS browsers, so don't feel that I need a dedicated app. Please, bring back the news feed, and add a page of news to the DDG website as well!
  • Privacy vs Security 2/5

    By thevoidboy
This app would be vastly improved if it used Apple’s Keychain APIs so that my secure passwords could be accessed. Until then, I’m left with Safari, because I have dozens of unique secure passwords and cannot possibly remember them all. Nor do I wish to expose them in one app I order to use them in this one.
  • Beware the latest update!! 1/5

    By Guest365
Version 7.1.0 is worse than the previous version. Pages take 15 to 40 seconds to load, the screen freezes, the page crashes. Wish I could go back to 6.0.9 (801) that version worked! Call me still disappointed!! ( the rest of this text is my previous review, it still applies.) Have used DuckDuckGo for years, was a huge fan until this most recent update. Lost 3 years of urls from my phone. New version is terrible, slower than dirt, it crashes repeatedly absolute garbage. Sure wish I could go back to the previous version! Call me disappointed and dissatisfied.
  • Seems OK so far... 4/5

    By NuttyStool
I use Duck Duck Go search on all my devices. I like the idea of a browser on iOS. Would love the option to customize the app lock pin using 4 or 6 digit. Gave it another star for the developers being so involved with their users.
  • It leaves a lot to wish from it 3/5

    By ahitsmakeuo
Ok app generally speaking. But there are lots of things that have a hard time to get done with it, like showing images from emails the way they should be shown or clicking links to open another website (from emails for example). There are many websites were I cannot do anything with this browser because they’re not compatible with it, so I have to rely on Safari. Then again why do I have it if at the end I will have to use another browser to do what I have to?
  • Articles are gone 3/5

    By E.vil kim
Now it's just a web browser. The article selection section is now gone. It was nice before when I could just hop on there and read current news and shared if I wanted..
  • Great app but slow 3/5

    By lerlerlance
I like the recent improvements to the app, but browsing has become considerably slower for me. I'll be using another app, but I'll keep an eye out for DuckDuckGo updates, because I'd prefer to use it if the speed issue gets fixed.
  • 5 star but a few glitches 4/5

    By Mommabear23
I love your principles and always use your search engine. Been recently having trouble with app ... once I click on a link and go to that website it won't load completely and keeps trying over and over. If it matters I use OS 10 - will not update to OS11 because in 11 we cannot turn off the radios completely in control center - another privacy and safety issue. Could not find a way to contact support on your website or anywhere. Do not do social media sites. Thanks
  • Nice 5/5

    By MarisaKeller8
It makes the job of signing pdf easier
  • Works as advertised 5/5

    By ThomasAlice
I put it through its paces, and had no problems. Simple to use, and about the same speed as Safari.
  • No longer works 2/5

By Can't be Blank to Submit
Not sure why, but very slow and stalls out on common websites. Currently using iOS 8. Works great on my Android phone though!
  • It’s been fantastic so far. 4/5

    By Wickedcor
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I’m still loving it. The only thing that could make this better is if it could access my saved login and password info from safari. But other than that it’s great.
  • The flame is clunky and doesn’t log me out! 1/5

    By SomeGirl...what
The flame update is clunkier than the previous version, but an even bigger concern is that after I use it and close the app, I’m still logged in to websites like Facebook when I reopen it! I *definitely* didn’t give DuckDuckGo permission to add or use cookies, so why is it using them? And even more concerning, why aren’t they cleared by the flame? This was a final straw for me - I deleted the app.
  • Bias search results brainwash the masses 5/5

    By TheMaylynn
I have come to my limits with Google. Their left leaning bias has made searching for information nearly impossible. I am ready for something new.
  • Slow but potential 4/5

    By Spyrox17
It's considerably more slow than chrome or safari at opening pages, although from the reviews I've read, there is some work that needs to be sorted out and the devs are actively trying to fix it, which is the reason I intend to keep it. I also have a suggestion: When going to a website with multiple trackers, could it be made so that I can select which trackers I want and ones I don't (along with any of the other blocked contents)? As an example, if I want to disable the google analytics tracker, I can keep the abcd.123 tracker working. Some trackers only go on websites I like, but the google tracker goes everywhere.
  • Excellent App 5/5

    By jrusso01
It’s great to know that there’s someone trying to protect everyone’s privacy. Everything about this is great, but I wish there was a more obvious way to close the site ratings screen.
  • A great start! 5/5

    By NeffinIt
Thank you DuckDuckGo for finally making a mobile version of your private browsing engine. You guys are the best and I honestly ended up replacing Safari with your servers. The overall look of the app appears great, if I may so myself. The only thing I would suggest is occasional interface updates that have the same and sleek modern look, but with added features and more sophistication. It looks great as it is honestly, and this is the best. Thank you DuckDuckGo!
  • Ugh! Ever Since update with flame button... 2/5

By TBCL bottom of page, I can’t love it like I used to: can’t access my search list for in-depth searches, can’t go forward and back pages, stalls when loading pages, cannot save photos, went from 5-star perfection to awfulness. Sorry.....
  • Private browsing 5/5

    By CalifDude
I love how this app aims to keep our web usage private. It’s so creepy when ads start showing up on various websites for something I searched for a few days ago. The app works great. My typical websites all load fine. The website grading system is informative and seeing which trackers were blocked on each website is cool! It was particularly illuminating when I went to WebMD to research a medical issue and the app blocked 18 tracker networks. Wow!
  • Fixed all my issues. 5/5

    By Warstarter
Alright so I’ve used the app for awhile now after the last update and haven’t had any problems with it. Everything is smooth and I haven’t had any bugs. I love the app I think it is amazing the way it is I feel like my browsing is quick and secure. Now, I support the app fully and would honestly like this to be the only browser that I use. I use it a lot but there’s still one thing I’d like to see if you guys can do if/when you’re ready. I’d like to be able to download things and use DuckDuckGo with other apps instead of having to “open in safari”. I know people would like the page they were on to open right up in safari but I don’t wanna have to leave your app at all I like it a lot more than safari and would love to replace it entirely with DuckDuckGo. 👍🏻
  • My default browser 5/5

    By Jmarie660
I am hesitant to review as I don’t like giving away this secret lol I don’t want it scaling to be like google but I believe now it is necessary for people not to have such highly curated bubbles. I of course love google and use it from time to time when I need instant news updates. Duck duck go gets better and better and it’s articles and results are growing daily. It’s interesting because sometimes on google certain sites won’t open with my vpn but duck duck go will always work. I just set my dad up! Thanks for all the great work!
  • doesn't clear persistent cookies 2/5

    By someoldhobo
The "clear tabs and data" button does NOT clear all data. You can test this yourself on Amazon where you will find they still show a history of everything you have browsed on that site even after you have used "clear tabs and data". DDG, please fix this problem, otherwise you are giving people a false sense of security. I'm switching back to Brave and Firefox Focus for now. (Review is of version 7.1.0)
  • Thank you 5/5

    By sonev
I was very happy to find the most trusted name in privacy release a browser. Keep up the good work.
  • Can I download the 2017 version? 5/5

    By Disasterjunkie
This app was really good b4 the New Years update; it has progressively gotten better but it still laggy and slow. It only allows me to have 2 bookmarks n it still slows down a lot. I no longer like searching things online with DuckDuckGo ... Feels like I'm using dialup. Wish we could download the 2017 December version b4 2018. (That one worked really n allowed me to have dozens of bookmarks) I hope this helps. U still in the top 5 but u were my number 1; now my top three r just blanks, that how empty I feel.
  • Awesome app 5/5

    By Emj in Chicago
    It's great
  • Browser Now Worthless 1/5

    By DKrancher
Don't update this app. It's now a dead app on my phone.
  • Disappointed 2/5

    By Josh Turner Fan
It keeps loosing connection with whatever site your trying to use. When your filling out forms, it gets very frustrating when you have to keep starting over.
  • Love DuckDuckGo—would love a Safari content blocker 5/5

    By Joshua McShane
Love DuckDuckGo, love the entire premise of a privacy-centric search engine. That said, I do still use Safari as my main browser on my iPhone. I wish this app included a content blocker that I could use in Safari the way that Firefox Focus does!
  • Like the app but have a wishlist 4/5

    By Zappy Underpants
Wish there was an option to open tabs in the background.
  • Slow operation with recent update 01/2018 5/5

    By Frau Klinkmeier
New update has terrible response time despite being on 5G WiFi. Before the most recent update, speed was never an issue. Update: latest updates have resolved the speed issue. Changed to 5 stars.
  • Works with latest update 5/5

    By JJstar
Thanks for making the necessary updates. App now works as expected.
  • Gets rid of ads and annoying interruptions 5/5

    By Momado
With the new upgraded privacy protection in the app, I can go on websites without worrying about ads and interruptions such as when an ad redirects me to the App Store. If the privacy protection is blocking something I want to see, I can turn it off anytime. Much easier to use the internet as if you’re using Adblock but for your phone.
  • may you please add? 5/5

    By BlazeDust
Can you add a feature to have some info from websites displayed on the homepage? Like, some news,or something like that? But with the DuckDuckGo privacy antitracker features.
  • My new default browser 4/5

    By Alana Post
I like this a ton — no issues with my general browsing; I definitely don’t notice the lack of trackers and scripts. Love the ability to passcode- or face-lock the app. All that said, I had one very frustrating instance where an App Store link sent me into a constant loop, making this app unusable (Open app -> enter passcode -> App store link loads -> App Store app opens. Try to go back to browser, it sends me to App Store app). Hard-closing and reopening helped. Fixing a few of these sorts of issues would make it 5 stars!
  • Update Problem 2/5

    By BlugarVelveeta367
Update will not run, or slug loads on older iPad and is holding up to 800 Megs of date within the app.
  • My Go-To Browser 4/5

    By Ambient_Green
Honestly I don’t want to use anything else now. Gives me a little privacy peace of mind and a lot of insight into what websites I visit are doing. The app interface doesn’t look particularly slick, but it runs perfectly.
  • Sloooowwww 5/5

    By gr8papa
Update!: The app is much faster now. Thanks for whatever you did to speed it up! Are you kidding me??? I've used DDGo for a while now but the new "improved" version is so slow that I am considering being a former user. Nice try, but NOT good.
  • Dont like the update as much bring back the ! 3/5

    By Jazzy87653
I like the new tabs feature however. I miss the shopping ! Bang. Where you could just ! And enter any shopping online. PLEASE BRING IT BACK DCK DUCK GO WAS MY GO TO when shopping and I had to look something up online. Other than that love it.
  • It deserves 6+ 5/5

    By HNN 1464
For the job it does it deserves a big applaud. I've never realized how corrupt and dishonest are Google and Amazon and all the rest of them who constantly are watching your activities. Our Privacy is the only thing we have left that is still Tax-free. I don't want any scum as Google or Amazon advising me or watching me.
