DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser App

Privacy, simplified. At DuckDuckGo, we believe the Internet shouldn't feel so creepy, and getting the privacy you deserve online should be as simple as closing the blinds. Our app provides the privacy essentials you need to seamlessly take control of your personal information as you search and browse the web, no matter where the Internet takes you: • Escape Advertising Tracker Networks — Our Privacy Protection will block all the hidden trackers we can find, exposing the major advertising networks tracking you over time, so that you can track who's trying to track you. • Increase Encryption Protection — We force sites to use an encrypted connection where available, protecting your data from prying eyes, like ISPs. • Search Privately — You share your most personal information with your search engine, like your financial, medical, and political questions. What you search for is your own business, which is why DuckDuckGo search doesn't track you. Ever. • Decode Privacy Policies — We’ve partnered with Terms of Service Didn't Read to include their scores and labels of website terms of service and privacy policies, where available. As you search and browse, the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser shows you a Privacy Grade rating when you visit a website (A-F). This rating lets you see how protected you are at a glance, dig into the details to see who we caught trying to track you, and learn how we enhanced the underlying site's privacy measures. The Privacy Grade is scored automatically based on the prevalence of hidden tracker networks, encryption availability, and website privacy practices. Our app provides standard browsing functionality including tabs, bookmarks, and autocomplete. In addition to strong Privacy Protection as described above, we also packed in some extra privacy features into the browser itself: • Fire Button — Clear all your tabs and data with one tap. • Application Lock — Secure the app with Touch ID or Face ID. Too many people believe you simply can’t expect privacy on the Internet. We're fighting to change that, and have made it our mission to set a new standard of trust online. Install DuckDuckGo and take back your privacy! About Us: Device Privacy Tips: More Privacy Education: Our Privacy Policy: This app is open source at

DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser app reviews

  • Easing my paranoia 5/5

    By Star_Wolf64
DuckDuckGo does what is says, keeps your searching private. I can now feel secure when I am searching for GameStops or banks near me. Before DuckDuckGo, I was ridden with concern, fearing that every keystroke was to be eternally stored by Microsoft or google for their profitable exploitation. Now, I rest easy. Thank you, DuckDuckGo.
  • Thanks for the Share Feature! 5/5

    By ♪♫♪♫♪♫♪
I know this app is a “search engine,” but it’s essentially a web browser for users such as myself. Since we use it as a web browser, the Share feature to share in group chat apps, email, messages, etc. was desperately needed. Now to add a “Open in DuckDuckGo” or “make default web browser” option. I refuse to use any other search engine or web browser and copying/pasting links from group chats in DuckDuckGo is a hassle. Thanks!
  • Was good now CRAP DONT USE!! 1/5

Update;6/20/18 ; Zero privacy using this app it is now being controlled by the CIA and deep state now they constantly restart your phone close your apps and everything else you must delete this app from your phone !!! Constantly crashes opens and closes itself is as if someone else is controlling it knocked me on my phone Like I said it was good until the net neutrality kicked in and now it’s total crap
  • Update 4/5

This update will not download on any of my iPhones.
  • Background 5/5

It would be nice to be able to open new tabs in the background
  • Won’t do ddns lookups 3/5

  • Fantastic 5/5

Free app that also gives you privacy and does not sell your information or track you. Thanks for bringing back the internet as it used to be
  • Surreal Fire 5/5

    By nonamenicknoname
This is a solid app. It’s simple, easy to use, and the fire button closes all tabs (very useful!) When I tap the fire button the fire moves up and closes all tabs but it flashes a screenshot of the just closed tab after it completes. Imagine you’re burning a log in the fireplace and once it all turns to ash it pops back into existence and then it vanishes. Surreal. Other than that, great work!
  • Great Update 5/5

    By Dr. L.
The latest update adds some really nice features such as being able to clear tabs and data with one click, add bookmarks, etc. Performance with the new update is slower than the previous version for me. I updated to the most recent version of iOS and added a VPN app at the same time, so I'm not sure what is causing the slower performance. Update to my review - I just downloaded the newest version of Duck Duck Go, and performance is now back to normal. The developer resolved the performance issue in just a couple of days. I've upgraded my rating to 5 stars. DDG continues to get better with each update. However, I preferred the location of the search field in the middle of the screen rather than at the top.
  • Very slick, convenient — private 5/5

    By DavoColo
The new interface is kind of like Firefox Focus — an app specializing in private browsing — but adds bookmarks and other ease-of-use features I really appreciate to the always awesome DDG search. I find myself using this app a lot. And the “clear all” animation is addictive. ;-) My wish list has just one item: An “Open in *background* tab” option on a long press so I don’t have to immediately go to the page overview and switch back to where I was just to open more tabs. This would be particularly useful on a news site, say, where you want to skim headlines and open interesting articles for later use. (I don’t want to “Add to reading list” and switch to Safari for this purpose — unless you’re telling me that Safari is as secure and private as DDG. Is it?)
  • Worth the time of downloading 5/5

    By aGucciGang
So smooth and it does clear your data all the traces is gone.
  • Warning! Do not delete your old version! 1/5

    By Review1*
I removed the old version to clear the several gigs of catch on my iPhone and now I can not reinstall the old version. It wants you to upgrade to iOS 10. What do you do if you cannot or do not want to upgrade. Your left stranded :(
  • Privacy browser 4/5

    By Analog gibes
This is basically a browser designed specifically for and around privacy. Really smooth and simple experience. One feature I want to see is an extension for safari like they have on desktop.
  • Now useless 1/5

    By FoBomb
DDG stories worked great. This on the other hand works not. Even just trying to load the DuckDuckGo website takes forever and ever... and ever, if it loads at all and it often doesn't. That is the ultimate test. If you can't load your own website, then your app is no good. Especially when your site barely has anything on it. I'm using an iPhone 4S, don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've been waiting and waiting for an update hoping it'll fix the problem, but it doesn't seem to be coming.
  • Burn tabs for DDG’s lulz 1/5

    By Kill All Blissey
Thanks guys. Truly sick of the placement for the burn tabs button. Anyone using normal Safari most of the time hits that spot for NEW tabs.
  • Does not delete cookies??? 3/5

    By MrIphonereviewer
Settings remain on websites that i am not logged into after pushing erase button....I tested this on google and DuckDuckGo search engines. So why is it remembering website settings?? The only way is if its storing data in the browser such as cookies... There is no option to delete cookies... To prove a point install firefox focus and press erase button it actually erases data related to websites... I like DuckDuckGo search but for now I have reinstalled regular firefox.
  • Love this App 4/5

    By Mileybug
I feel safe. I like they protect me and DON’T spam me to death. Been using DuckDuckGo for about 4 years now. Just as fast and complete as that other search engine that spreads your info shamelessly. Go DuckDuckGo!
  • Love it, no pun, go duck! 5/5

    By Flaaaash
Simple, safe, private. Why would you use anything else? Search results are getting better and better
  • Frustrated! 1/5

I like the app, however a few weeks ago I realized it was taking longer and longer to open so I could even use it, then I started receiving notices telling me it could download the information as the "file" (my term) was too big. This was even for something as small as how to spell a word. Today it won't open at all. HELP.

  • Fix app YouTube. 3/5

When I’m watching a YouTube video and I have to pause I might respond to a different app or whatever when go right back to the duck go app it restart my YouTube video I’m watching back to the start.
  • Not Private At All 1/5

    By psnsux
Any browser that does not allow you to completely disable the use of cookies is not safe. Removing cookies after the fact is pointless!
  • One small nitpick from perfection 3/5

    By Eg94
Love the browser, fast, private and easy to use. The only complaint I have is when opening a link to a new tab, it automatically takes you to new tab. If you could have that work in the background or give us the option to choose, the browser would be perfect. Keep up the great work DuckDuckGo
  • Used to be awesome 5/5

    By TAGC13
Update:bugs were fixed! Back to daily use!! Favorite app on my phone!! I guess one of the last updates messed things up because I used to love this app until every time I tried to open a page the screen froze on “loading”. I had to kill the app and reopen. Might try again later to see if bugs were fixed.
  • Make the UI iPad friendly 4/5

    By Andrei Bakhtin
I like the idea behind the app, but could you please make the user interface iPad friendly?
  • Browser of Choice 5/5

    By CraftyCoach
I just downloaded this browser and I’ve already decided to use this as my main browser. It’s so quick and easy to use. Keep it up!
  • Can’t send messages on Facebook 5/5

    By Nong5!
After the update I can only view messages from Facebook but can not send. Please fix it. Thank you!
  • iPhone 5 no longer supported! 3/5

    By Overseascalls
It has been a great app all these years, but the latest update is not iPhone 5 compatible. Come on folks! As long as a phone is running iOS 10, that should be sufficient.
  • Trying Out, Disappointed 3/5

    By Buttevant
I am very concerned about privacy and was looking forward to using your app. However, your print is way too small. I cannot read it and I have my font up as large as it can be. Is there any way of making it larger in the app?
  • Security Flaw? 1/5

    By Ssgtgod
Try taking this browser to Youtube, watch a video. Now change your webpage back to default say duckduckgo search engine page. Close the application. Reopen this browser, go back to Youtube....looky there. You are not signed into Google/Youtube......but look at Youtube suggesting videos from the very one you watched. You can not delete cookies well...there seems to be a Tracking method of this browser???
  • Good but needs improvements 3/5

    By Aa-maz-iiinnnggg!!!!
I love how it doesn’t track you, but here are some things this app ABSOLUTELY NEEDS: - Just like safari, it needs a button that formats pages of text (news articles) into formatted text (some sites have weird font or it’s too small - the button in safari fits it perfectly to the screen and you can change font, size, etc.) Would make the app much better. Please add this. - Faster load times. I bet the track-blocker has something to do with this, but some sites and searches are skippy and slower in loading. Sadly, slower than safari even when using the DuckDuckGo search engine. I hope the devs add these things. Would make it a 5-Star!
  • Can't update 3/5

    By Bitsy46
All at once, my device is not compatible. iOS 10.3.3.
  • My default browser 4/5

    By Minzie
Great experience, love the privacy features/options and searches for me work just as well as Google or Bing. I rarely need another search engine. Will be 5 stars once hardware keyboard shortcuts are added for iPad. Thanks for a great browsing experience!
  • I APPreciate this browser ;P 5/5

    By <--- 5 stars bro
The only feature I'm really missing is a setting to opt-out of the data-clearing confirmation that says "Clear Tabs and Data". I'd like to be able to hit the flame button and automatically delete everything without the extra step of confirming. Please? :D
  • weak effort, untapped potential 1/5

    By Iamunotme
DDG app won't hold settings (themes, appearance, privacy options). The version in the Apple store isn't even compatible with the most recent version of iOS. Could be premier search, but lacks intuition and basic usability. My search continues for a privacy search. engine that actually fulfills the app developers' claims. DDG isn't it.
  • please support 4th generation iPad 3/5

    By Liubaiqi
    please support 4th generation iPad
  • highly recommend 5/5

    By karakira
without duckduckgo browser i would simply not use www internet from my mobile devices. (quacks happily, flips off fæçebœk, gœgłę)
  • The best browser 5/5

    By SuperReviewer2011
This is my favorite browser - I have dragged the icon into my iPad taskbar so it’s easy to access. I wish Apple would allow you to select your default browser but that is not the developer’s fault. Duck Duck Go is fast and easy to use. Thanks for a great browser.
  • Super Frustrated 2/5

    By SeaTurtleFriend
From a 5 star to a 2... Just when I found a search engine I can trust, your latest unnecessary update messed everything up! It won’t let me open secondary pages which I find obnoxiously frustrating when I want to seek further info that is highlighted on the page I’m reading. Then, what’s with the new icon downgrade?!? You took away the awesome slightly oversized obvious flame and replaced it with this stupid looking tiny little gray thing that melds in with everything else in the bottom tray leaving me more likely to forget to use this once wonderful tool! Please reconsider an option to return to the old flame icon as well as allowing secondary pages to open or at the very least give users the option to return to prior versions that due allow for these to work properly & effectively. Thank You.
  • Too slow to load 2/5

    By JakeCastro
Pages load extremely slow, a lot of improvement is needed before this app is tolerable.
  • No Find Functionality 4/5

    By jamfrazier
I’ll give it five stars once a find function is added. Great app overall!
  • Latest Update is Great 5/5

    By Ambient_Green
This latest update which gave a more sleek look to the design of the app is exactly what I’ve been wanting. There’s seriously no reason to not use DuckDuckGo now. It’s so simple to switch to a new browser especially now that it looks so good. Most people browse the internet on their phones these days. Give yourself a little internet peace of mind.
  • Wow 5/5

    By George labus
I like privacy. Thus I love DuckDuckGo. You certainly love keeping our data safe, so I’m deleting Chrome and using only your search service combined with your app, Red Browser (iPad/iPhone), or Tor. Thanks for all you do, so truly appreciate it.
  • Awesome small company 5/5

I have been using this search engine for 7 years now and they are most excellent dudes 🤘. I got really tired of the lagging of google and other search browsers. This is my first review ever of any app. I don’t just review anything but I definitely critique everything that crosses my path. You can’t go wrong with DuckDuckGo as far as this highly skeptical south Mississippian Tillman is concerned.
  • Reading Mode, Please 4/5

    By Mouton Noir - X
Information articles and magazines usually have the most trackers. With this in mind, I usually search for them in this app as opposed to Safari. Reading mode is invaluable for a number of reasons, especially for the visually challenged like myself. DDG - reading mode = back to Safari. I’d prefer if that didn’t need to be the case.
  • Just perfect 5/5

    By Mighty Thumbs
I was searching for a private, fast, simple yet well designed browser. I tested many - this is my winner. Used it now for several months (also their search engine) - great experience. Nothing to complain about. I really appreciate the hard work the team puts in for a more private and secure browsing, very hard to come by these days, especially for free! Whoever came up with the “clear tabs and data” button - genius. I love the effect! Thank you!
  • No more 5C support? 1/5

    By matthewande
    Ugh. Planned obsolescence again.
  • Too dark UI 4/5

    By FlusteredFred
The dark blue colors of the UI are difficult to see, how can I change the color to a lighter one? This is my biggest complaint.
  • Wish the tabs showed 4/5

    By Queenlinda
I wish on the iPad that you could see all the tabs that were open instead of only seeing one tab at a time.
