I can’t access any issues after January. My subscription is definitely still active and I’ve been having this problem for months. I emailed customer service and never heard back. Please help, because I don’t know who to contact about this. Love the magazine, but can’t read it so...
I’m having The same problem as many others - I’m a long time subscriber but I’m unable to download new issues of the magazine via the app without paying for them. This happened about a year ago, and customer service finally contacted me and fixed the problem, but when the magazine went monthly, the problem started happening again. How a major magazine like Entertainment Weekly can have an app that’s been plagued with problems for so long is inexcusable. I’ll never get back all the time I’ve wasted trying to fix this problem, so I’m ready to give up. ET should really give subscribers a refund for the digital edition of their magazine, since it’s completely worthless.

What a waste, this used to be a magazine that came out weekly or some double issues that gave you current information on TV, movies, books, Broadway, music, etc that was all current and about to be released in the coming week, great way to plan your entertainment. Over the last couple of years it has become total non-relevant crap. Latest issue entirely about one show that I don’t even watch, no info on new movies or what to watch on TV. Cancelled as of today as your magazine is no longer relevant to current entertainment

*UPDATE: Still sticking with one star. Was contacted by the developer and the problem was fixed. However, a new issue has come out and again, I cannot access it. Please fix.

I have the physical magazine which has my account number on it and I receive annoying emails to renew my subscription (altho it now expires in MAY 2022 (!!) yet the app keeps showing a message that it recognizes neither my email nor my account number. And it’s impossible to contact customer service to ask for a fix.

I am unable to access any of my past issues that I had in the Kindle app in the latest Entertainment Weekly app. When I open an old issue in the Kindle it directs me to use the EW app now. I created a new avvount. When I sync purchases nothing appears. I have old issues that go back several years starting from around Dec 2011. How do I view my old subscriptions?
New Issues Not Available for Download! 1/5
Do I even have a print + digital sub any more? I have print edition, but cannot log into app using mailing label info. Which is the correct number? Would be nice to be shown what I’m supposed to be entering, because it doesn’t work (no explanation). Can log in to the app using an email and password, but new issues are not available for download without paying. Old issues show up.
Nowhere can I get a clear understanding of what my sub includes and what the heck my login does. Customer service was no help.
Had the same problem with Consumer Reports (really!). Cancelled iTunes sub, due to disfunction and lack of information.
Is this a problem with iTunes?
Is it any wonder that magazines are struggling?

I’ve been a subscriber for many years and even left a glowing five star review for the app. Today, I feel I have to change that rating. I logged into the app for the first time in quite awhile and discovered that I no longer have access to the years and years of back issues that I used to access. I’ve tried all of the solutions that are offered in the FAQ but none of them work. I’m very disappointed.

Even though I am a current subscriber and received my February issue in the mail, the pathetic app will not let me download it to my tablet without paying for it. Of course, there are zero instructions on how to remedy the situation which is unfortunate but hardly surprising. At this rate, I’ll be canceling my subscription and will gladly spread the word about how bad the EW app is for all prospective customers.

Ever since EW switched to monthly releases I have not been able to view the magazine in the app although I am both a print and digital subscriber.
If I select an issue from the Home screen it takes me to a screen where I can either try it out or pay for it. But I am already a digital subscriber.
Not sure why this broke but it should be fixed.

Even though I am a long time paid subscriber, once again I can’t get in to my account and read the current issue. Instead I get a notice to buy the issue. This happened once or twice before. I can only conclude this is a very poorly programmed or maintained app. Very frustrating.
Unable to download recent issues 1/5
I have been a loyal subscriber for decades, so I was very disappointed when the magazine changed to monthly a few issues ago—especially with no warning. But my problem with the app is that I can’t download any new issues since October. I have read multiple reviews on here stating the same problem. Seems like something that should be fixable with an update instead of every user having to contact customer service individually. Very frustrating.
Update: I was able to contact customer service and all issues are available again. Hopefully it continues working.

I have been a subscriber to this weekly magazine since the mid 90’s. I started noticing that this ‘weekly’ magazine started coming once a month. No notice. No refund. Nothing. And for months, I’ve not been able to get into the EWapp. It says the same email registered to this account for 2 decades isn’t recognized. I finally get through to customer service and they confirm it’s the email on file. They can’t help with the app or give me a number for the people who can help. I’m just deleting the useless thing and canceling the subscription. No wonder it’s gone downhill.
I have been a subscriber for many years. This latest update refuses to load magazines after May 31, 2019. No matter how may times I delete and reinstall, or follow the FAQ steps, or enter my subscription number or email the digital magazines won’t load. Why is there no contact phone # or email address? Very poor customer service and App update

Every time there is an update to the iPad operating system, this app “forgets” who I am and wants to charge me for the magazine. I have had a print subscription since the first issue was published and it gets really tiresome having to deal with trying to access my digital copy. Please fix this!!!

Been a subscriber for several years. Yes, the new format is over designed and hard to read. Headlines going vertical, then horizontal, then back to vertical. it’s basically designed to look like an entire magazine of advertisements. I logged in to the digital version and found out there are issues I haven’t received. Prob the post offices fault, but I can’t download any of these issues either. Last time I used the app I had no problems with it but now I have to buy the issue? Say it ain’t so...

I paid for a year of weekly subscriptions but they stopped in July even though I had paid through September. I’d be more upset if this magazine was any good anymore which is not.
Fall TV preview is incredibly lightweight 1/5
For years I have used the fall TV preview issue to decide what new shows to try. This year they combined the returning shows and new shows into one issue and couldn’t even be bothered talking about all the new shows or including a schedule to point out changes. In short, it was a waste of money.

I have automatic renewal however the app won’t download new issues. It does not recognize my account and Apple is of no help. Instead I’m directed to contact the app developer- and there is no information on who to contact! Extremely frustrating especially since the app worked fine for years before recent updates.
Least accessible site ever 1/5
The EW magazine and site is not visually accessible (small font and poor contrast that does not meet recommendations for those with even those who may need reading glasses) and the website only allows you to buy digital copies even though you have a magazine subscription. The third party vendor assisting with questions also has an robot helpdesk that does not allow you to type in questions - the keyboard feature does not work so you can not type in a live reply.

I’m very frustrated. I’m still not getting my magazines. I’ve tried deleting the app, restoring my purchases, and the list goes on. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I spend too much money on this digital subscription to not get my downloads.
I have been a loyal subscriber to this for over 30 years and lately this application is testing my patience. I cannot receive the latest issues, even after syncing, restoring my issues and I went as far as deleting the app and reinstalling it. When I called customer service, no one could seem to address my issues and even went as far as telling me that my subscription had been cancelled, but could not even give me a answer on why. I did figure out that it had not been cancelled, which made more more upset that I was lied to. Once I was finally told that it was going to a month to month basis, did I get the August issue. I received a alert telling me that the September issue is available on Friday and as of today, still no issue on my iPad.
I love reading this, but I am to the point of canceling my subscription and will get my entertainment news else where. If anyone can fix/address this issue, then I will keep my subscription, but it needs to be addressed quickly. Send help!
New format is horrible, and impossible to read. The layout is atrocious, and now they're going to one monthly issue. I like Entertainment Weekly, as in every week. As a lifelong reader (I still have issue 1), this is kind of crushing. I look forward to my weekly read of the issue, where I plan what to watch on tv for the week, what books to check out, movies to see.
It's always sad watching a magazine you have loved for decades die. And that's exactly where this is going. Monthly magazines are sad.
Edit: got a thank you from the developer for this review and they’re glad I’m enjoying using the app. Good to know they’re complete tools.

When it’s Entertainment Weekly... er... MONTHLY!
Seriously guys, I have no interest in reading month-old news. Film, television, music, books, theatre - so much is going to be lost in a monthly format, like topicality.
You’ve lost sight of your mission. I give it two years (though likely less) before you fold entirely.
The new update increased photo resolution, which had been sacrificed previously to facilitate faster downloads. Now we get both. I’ve been a EW subscriber for about 30 years, and switched to digital when it was first available.

One of my favorite features of this app was that I could download issues and read them on a plane. Now you have to be connected to the internet to access content, so you can no longer do this. :(

Just subscribed for EW and signed up on my iPad and I couldn’t get the new issues on iPad and it doesn’t work and the sync is not working and I keep trying and trying again it nothing happens.

I too am trapped in the land of not being able to read my purchases. You have ONE JOB. To deliver reading material. You’re not doing it; the MANY reviews here show that off. Fix your app. I know your app shell is based on Zinio and its working just fine. Do what they’re doing.
