New update is terrible 1/5
I’ve had Evernote since January of 2013. I absolutely love this app until now...
The last update has (in my opinion) completely changed this app and how well it functions. Example: when editing notes you have to click the check mark when finished. If you happen to decide to edit something else on the same note, I have to back out of that note completely and re-open it to do another edit. Also most times when starting an edit, I absolutely can not get the cursor to appear. It’s not visible. Very frustrating tapping and tapping on the screen and all you keep seeing is the select/select all/paste option appearing and disappearing. Sometimes you just need to add something to a note real quick but instead you spend more time just “trying” to edit and looking like a fool tapping and tapping on your screen while having to ask someone “hold on a sec, trying to make a quick note...”
Also when trying to change fonts/size/color etc, there has been times when I could not select or unselect bold text or the underline feature. I’ve tried to change the color of the text and can’t seem to get that done sometimes. AGAIN! Very Frustrating!
This is not what I paid for... I can’t even change it back.... WHY CHANGE SOMETHING THAT IS WORKING FINE??? Did y’all get bored and decide “hey I gotta an idea... this app is going great but I (think) we can make it better”.
I wonder if the ones responsible for this update has even used the app since??
Fix the bugs and I’ll take it all back! But you have a lot to fix.
New iPad version is buggy and unreliable 3/5
I’ve used Evernote for years, but the new version for iPad is unreliable (October 2020). I’ve updated multiple notes which were not saved. Notes updated on other platforms will not download consistently. The sort feature on grouped notebooks doesn’t work at all. I use the paid version - so frustrating to see such a broken update on a tool I use daily for business and personal use.
Missed some things in new version 2/5
The new version is faster on the iPhone. I think some glitches were also fixed with text and bullets. The more I use it, I do think it is significantly more responsive.
However the iPad version is significantly slower and has major sync glitches. Lost two hours of note taking yesterday — wouldn’t sync. And tech support takes over 24 hours to respond. No solution yet.
The “star” for the shortcuts needs to be re-added to the bottom of the screen — that’s where it was before this new version. The star allowed very quick access to shortcuts — now, unfortunately, it is an extra step.
I also don’t like how web clips now don’t grab article titles — I now have to copy the title and cut and paste, which is really annoying. That should be fixed.
I hope there is work being done on the desktop version. It has multiple glitches, like hogging RAM and freezing unless you restart — both of which are well documented in forums.
New version turned the app into a brick 1/5
With the update evernote became ever lost your note. Type a note, edit a previous note, POOF, it disappears! Search function took two steps backwards, maybe even three. They said they have been working on this update for quite awhile, over a year that I know of, did they bother to test it? AVOID!
Latest upgrade a total FAIL 1/5
I have been a premium Evernote user for several years. I use it extensively, and have always found it easy to use. However, the new version just updated to my iPad and I am so unhappy. First of all, it is S-O-O-O S-L-O-W. It takes forever to open the app, and once open, forever to open a Note. I post a lot of articles from webpages or the Flipboard app, and in the previous version of Evernote, these appeared immediately to my list of notes. I just sent a short article to Evernote from Flipboard that took 22 minutes to load. Evernote just showed it in the Notes list with a spinning wheel of death. Man, I hate it when software engineers turn something that worked well and that I enjoyed using into something that just aggravates and annoys me. What a pity this has happened to Evernote. Afternote: in the tag list, the A-Z index has been removed, so to skip from Apple to Zebra tags requires scrolling through the entire tag list. Why do you redesign features to make them less user optimized? My former Evernote rating of 5 stars has been reduced to one.
Doesn’t work 2/5
I’ve used this app for years but since the new iPad and iPhone system update, my Evernote doesn’t work. I can’t open any note on my iPad or iPhone.
Often freezes and gets hot 1/5
Awful experience ever.
Recent changes negatively impact notes created by web clipper 2/5
This review is solely about the notes I have from Evernote’s web clipper. The recent update surrounds that clipped content with a box titled “html content” and breaks the previous formatting, making it super annoying to read and scroll.
Revision has problems 1/5
The time order in viewing notes is now oldest first. I could not find a way to reverse it. My notes go back to 2013, so right now Evernote is useless for me.
New update is so bad 1/5
I’ve recently gotten Evernote and loved it until the recent update. For some reason my notes don’t save properly and when I do sketches for my calculus work, the note turns black and it’s so unhelpful. Please fix this!!!!
Update looks nice, but is full of deal breaking bugs 3/5
By Peter Zetterli
My first impressions of the new update to the iOS app were great: It looks better, has useful new features, and came across as more stable. After using it for a bit, however, a far uglier reality is settling in: The release is full of issues, some of which are obvious bugs and others of which I can only hope are bugs and not the intended functioning of the app.
Two of these issues stand out: Load times and sync issues.
One of the key points for an app like Evernote is that content is readily available, but now I regularly find myself staring at an unchanging screen for 5-10 seconds even for a simple thing like filtering notes with tags (which is an absolutely central feature of the app that I use constantly, probably 50 times a day). Worse, when loading a note I have found myself staring at a blank screen for up to a minute before it loads. That simply does not work.
Far worse still is that sync issues are leading to lost content. Today I edited a note on the iPad and was surprised to see later that the desktop version had not updated. To my horror, when I opened the iPad version of the note again it had reverted to the desktop version - and no second note with conflicting changes had been saved. As a result, half of my notes from a meeting were lost. Later I created a new note on the iPad and wrote a good page of well considered text. To my horror again, the note HAD NOT SAVED at all, so all I could retrieve on any device was a blank note without so much as a title, let alone content. All of my work was lost.
I’ll give the Evernote team a free pass on this for now, since I’m a loyal fan since many years and bugs always occur in new releases.
That said, these issues are FATAL for a service like Evernote and do need to be resolved with great urgency. If I can’t rely on Evernote to save and retrieve my content, then it has zero value to me - in fact in some of these cases, it has been actively harmful to me - and I’ll need to find another solution (soon).
New version a step backwards 2/5
By Big dog 1987
Far worse at clipping than old version. Doesn’t include titles!
Lots of problems since update 2/5
Ever since an update a short time ago, my notes now create conflicts when syncing between devices and it’s super annoying. Also since that update, my reminders don’t work correctly. And shortcuts don’t stay saved. Even stuff I add to a note doesn’t save and isn’t there when I re-open the note right away on the same device. I don’t know that I will keep paying for this every month. Syncing shared notebooks has always been an issue for us as well. This latest big update seemed to make everything worse for me.
I used Evernote for 10 years. Reliable, great. Now, with their newest update a total disaster. Cannot find anything. Thanks guys. Words can’t describemy despair
TWO NOTES DISAPPEARED BECAUSE OF NEW VERSION 1/5
I have no idea what they did with this new build of Evernote but after 8 years of using it, I’m liking deleting it. I just had two notes that I created on this new version completely disappear, only thing left was a remnant “Untitled note” with nothing in either of them. THIS IS NOT OK. You can have bugs and speed issues, fine but literally notes that you create that have critical info saved in them that then just disappear spontaneously?!? I would have to think that’s approaching lawsuit territory, since I’m a paying client and they’re losing my valuable data that I entrust to them. I even submitted “feedback” when the first time happened a few days a go and no response. This just happened again minutes ago, which prompted this 1 star review and damning comments.
Unusable With New Update 1/5
The newest update as of 2020Oct28 makes the app unusable. It takes 2 minutes at least to load up any opened page.
Stability issues for a once solid app 2/5
Latest update introduces bugs with menus flickering and ultimately disappearing. App gets confused when using Apple Pencil. Keyboard pops up then disappears and note loses focus requiring user to tap back into edit mode. Giving 3-stars for this release. Overall would still recommend the service because of a top quality web app.
Sync across web and app is seamless. Search is extremely useful. Pasting from other apps works great. I have a personal subscription for work and find Evernote helps keep me organized and productive.
Canceled my subscription months ago. Still get charged and Evernote still says because I haven’t cancel my subscription.
EverNote since 2012 2/5
This recent update needs immediate attention. Editing anything has a significant delay to load and when typing. Frustrating.
New version keeps losing large pieces of my notes 1/5
New Changes but Really Messed Up What Made It Great 2/5
By Alexander Hendrickson
The new aesthetic changes are nice but the check mark when finishing a note instead of the back button, and tapping the notebook in a note and having it bring up option to move note or go to a notebook add extra and unnecessary clicks and really ruin the speed with which I can jump between notes.
Latest release is a disaster 1/5
Would strongly suggest trying it out before going premium.
By Chicabobo niño.
Can’t add tags readily anymore from articles. This makes the app useless for me.
new version sync is seriously buggy 1/5
I’m using evernote because I wanted something cross-platform back in 2005. I’m now considering switching 15 years later, because the ios version’s sync is so deeply flawed. It saves “untitled notes” as you create them, spawns conflicting versions with no merge over and over again. It was a fine product way back when- but it’s been going downhill, and this last issue may be the last straw.
New Version with more issues than benefits 2/5
I have been using Evernote since 2010. always loved the fact that I can use it to take handwritten, searchable (!!) notes. I was aware of the saving issue and closed the note regularly. The new release brings more issues than benefits for me. Sketches are not saving but showing a spinning savings wheel and are lost then. Sketch / paper size is not fixed anymore. Pen quality is weird (too fine?). Just to name a few. I want to stay with Evernote and hope for an update soon!
Apple pen compatibility completely broken 1/5
By Boaz a
I’ve been using Evernote for over a year on my iPad Pro, and sketching with the Apple pen has been my primary input method. The latest update has broken this completely! Writing text in a sketch has become impossible - input is paused for over a second each time the pen is raised, and letters must be entered painstakingly one at a time.
If this is not fixed quickly I’ll have to cancel my subscription.
Use Onenote instead 2/5
I’ve been a premium member for years but over time OneNote makes a stronger and stronger case to replace Evernote in my ecosystem. The latest version of Evernote while pretty looking is no more pretty than OneNote, but has substantially slowed in performance to the point where clipping and tagging a note takes forever. (I have an iPad Pro; there should be no issues running Evernote). OneNote has no such performance issues. Yes, OneNote is more of a notebook than a pile of post-its, but the slowness of Evernote has forced my hand to reconsider my workflows and adapt to OneNote.
It’s deleting my notes! 1/5
I’ve been using this since 2011. The recent update is so glitchy. It deletes entire notes if I click away to view an older note. I lost so much information this week...super disappointed and looking for something to replace Evernote. Ughhh.
Bad Update 1/5
Updated, and won't let me get past the screens describing the update. App is currently useless, with no way to report the bug.
Edit: 4 days later and no changes. Guess I'm going to have to look for a permanent replacement for Evernote.
New update had issues 2/5
By Kate Hailey
Breaks new update. Major changes. Cannot sort by date updated, everything listed is oldest first no matter what I select. When you have thousands of notes the feature to have latest update is helpful.
After so many years using this app, you don’t realise how much you miss such a basic function until it’s gone. :/
I used to love this app 1/5
This used to be my life saving app, but the most recent update has left it unresponsive most times. Search enhancements don’t work. I am struggling to get it to respond so I can add a new note. I wish I had not been subjected to an automatic update. Looking for a new alternative.
I like Evernote in general but this new version is buggy 2/5
I have several notebooks shared with my wife. Since this upgrade, a few of the notebooks show zero notes. When I search for a note in those notebooks it finds the name of the note but if I click it, it gives an error saying it can’t be opened. I can access them on the Mac so I know it’s not a permissions issue. Also, it’s super annoying that when the phone goes to sleep or you switch apps, Evernote leaves the note you were in. For anyone using recipes to cook this is a huge pain.
Terrible update 1/5
The clipper is destroyed !
Does not clip title of article anymore! No more tags for indexing???? What is this ? Worse update in the 10 years I’ve used this app !
Its a shame 2/5
By ignus ri
Been a paying user for a long time, the ipad app is very buggy, cant delete notes, cant select multiple notes at a time, problems with anotate, etc etc
The new version is slow 1/5
The new version is very slow when editing longer notes.
The new version does not allow email the note to others.
I have been paying premium for many years. I am surprised that you made these decisions in the new version. This app is now broken for me.
I am canceling my premium and moving everything to one note now.
New update is buggy. 2/5
I’ve used Evernote since 2010. I am a paid user. The new update consistently crashes, doesn’t sync, etc.
It is very disappointing, especially when you house a great deal of your life on the app.
STILL NO handwriting support???? 1/5
This app needs to recognize that handwriting notes is becoming far more popular than typewritten ones. If evernote wants to keep up with apple notes, notability, goodnotes... and the rise of popular devices like samsung galaxy note 10, ipad pro and surface pros.... PLEASE INTEGRATE HANDWRITING CAPABILITIES. If you say or think you already have this, you are crazy!
There is a REASON the top apps for note taking are notability and Goodnotes. If your relaunch is centered around typing and doesn’t offer more native handwriting... it will FLOP.
Unstable updates 3/5
The most recent update removed all bullets and formatting from my notes. The new UI might be nice, but offering no option to revert to legacy meant a huge drop in my productivity.
Every update adds beautiful new features and screws up everything you did previously.
New update is unreliable. 1/5
I have very simple text notes, but I use Evernote over many devices- computer, phone, tablet. I just want my notes to sync reliably and to be there when I need them.
I take meeting notes over Evernote and use them to hold people accountable for what they signed up for. If I can’t access the note, the meeting is useless. I’ve lost what I typed in. Sometimes the note can’t be accessed. Ever since the latest update, this basic functionality does not work!!!!
As soon as I find a reliable replacement, I will be cancelling my subscription.
Not liking the new format 2/5
By Bataan watcher
I use Evernote every day. I loved it. The new format is horrible. When I save a recipe it used to put the title in automatically now I have to remember what it is and type it in. The search function is not user friendly. As you can tell I really don’t like this new format.
Shut down and deleted a whole paragraph I wrote 1/5
This made me so angry because I spend a very long time perfecting a paragraph I wrote. I’m deleting immediately after this review. Have to rewrite it all because their app glitched. DO NOT DOWNLOAD
Avoid this like the plague 1/5
The new version has completely destroyed the app. Don’t take my word for it just look at their comments on Twitter. Cannot get back into app at all since I downloaded new version.
October 2020 Update 1/5
This new update is horrible. Please take it back to previous version. Huge step back Evernote. May need to switch to a different application.
The new update is horrible 1/5
I started using this app back in august for my notes and absolutely loved it. It was so easily to manage and I felt very organized. Within the past week they have updated the app and I’ve encountered nothing but problems with it. It freezes all the time it doesn’t save my work and sometimes it won’t matter what I’m doing, it will still delete everything I’ve just written. I know it’s not my iPad or me doing either bc this is the only app I have trouble with and it just started doing it with new update. Save your money until they can fix it.
After updating Evernote I no longer have a working app. After something like ten years of using a great app,it’s now useless, it won’t load completely now.
Can no longer use the app 1/5
Its asking me to sign in but when I try to it says theres no connection on my phone. My LTE is on and i have 5 bars, safari works, all other apps work.EDIT: Its working after restarting my phone. Still dont care for the new update, exploring other options for note apps
I just had to explain to my boss that I couldnt give him the info he needed because the app that I had it in isnt working.... just ridiculous
New wiz bang update takes another step back 1/5
I have been using this app for nearly 10 years and paying for it.
And with every new revision, the app seems to take one step forward and two steps back.
It’s like they keep forgetting what they’ve done right and add something new, which is nice, but messes up the things that were so easy with this app and made it so useful.
Don’t break what’s working. 1/5
New update brings very slow performance when opening notes and uncomfortable interface. Cmon guys!
Look elsewhere 1/5
By Phil Ament
Evernote keeps pushing out major releases that are broken. They did the same thing a couple of years ago with version 8.0, and now they have done the same thing with version 10.0. Why make such unforced errors? The leadership team needs to be removed by the board before they kill the golden goose.
