Fitbod Weight Lifting Workout app reviews

  • Saving Time 5/5

    By Bfjdhfg
I now spend less time at the gym , but get a lot more done compared to what I was used to before. Great App.
  • Great overall 5/5

    By Marcus Anderville
Started using this app to help me do more varied and efficient workouts. I think it’s def been helping me get more toned and just enjoy working out more than I was. I liked it enough to pay for a year subscription and so far no regrets. FYI, there is a month-to-month option, but it’s buried and more expensive. One of the real benefits of Fitbod is that I don’t have to think about what I’m going to be doing and can just show up at the gym and do the workout and feel good about it. Fitbod definitely listens to feedback because they implemented several things I asked for in my prior review, like warm up and cool down routines and “walking” as an exercise. I love that they’ve added streaks. The new plate calculated is confusing though. I still wish I could swipe between superset exercises instead of going back to the full workout view then selecting the next exercise — I say this cuz I try to look ahead at the exercises I’m going to be doing so I can mentally prep for them and memorize the routine. I also wish I could add “basketball” and other sports as cardio exercises. I also wish I could request new exercises be added from in the app when I search but they aren’t there. It’s also a bit weird that you can’t access other parts of the app when you’re in a workout. I would like to be able to send feedback while I’m using the app without leaving it or stopping a workout. I love the calendar so I can see how I’ve been doing, but wish there were some charts so I can see progress over time.
  • Still freezes and doesn’t sync well with watch 1/5

    By dej0115
Even after latest update, app still freezes and hangs when using it. The syncing between the watch app and phone app is terrible. I paid for the year and wish I could get my money back. I take my workouts very seriously and this app constantly adds stress to tracking my workouts. PLEASE. FIX. IT.
  • Just ok 3/5

    By Butthaven90
I want to love this app, especially because I forgot to cancel after my free trial, but I just don’t. I don’t think it is super intuitive to use and it doesn’t motivate me to go hard at the gym. Like another reviewer, I have wondered about the efficacy of the rep ranges and suggested supersets/circuits. I do think the videos are great for the beginner, though. I’m going to stick with it, begrudgingly, for awhile since I’m about $60 lighter in the pocket for it. I would recommend a different app for the serious lifter.
  • Good workout App 5/5

    By Maximus1024
I like this app. I just need something to keep me on track and guide me through workouts. This gives a good variety and I can adjust anything or make my own if I want to. I like the way it tracks workouts by muscle group to offset work. I paid for it for ease of use and haven’t looked back on it yet. Only recommendation would be to add a little tone/chime when my rest time is up, so that I can get an audible cue to get back lifting. It would be helpful to hear in my Bluetooth headset as a notice to get back to lifting.

I have used Fitbod strength training this season for its flexibility, diversity, and awesome programming. As a 42 year old strongman competitor, I placed 3rd at the USS nationals in Columbus Ohio. This secured my position to compete as a pro masters division strongman! Even without having strongman lifts built into the algorithm I was able to supplement exercises and take full weeks to do strongman lifts with strongman implements and apparatuses. I’m so glad I saw this app advertised during my words with friends match! 💪🏽❤️💪🏽
  • Awesome app 5/5

    By 657-854-133
It’s so nice not having to search Pinterest for at-home workouts!
  • Amazing! 5/5

    By Menlin08
Great app to monitor your workouts and progress!
  • Great idea but buggy 2/5

    By Ethanopp
Great concept and the app looks great, performance is another story though. Crashes all the time, often duplicates workouts when using with Apple Watch, and it seems like a roll of the dice when it comes to importing workouts from health...sometimes they come in, other times nowhere to be found and there is no option to manually kick-off a sync
  • Amazing app to log and keep track of workouts. 4/5

    By AznWizz
The app has great instructions and videos to show you how to properly do a workout. Biggest issue I have is when I accidentally log a set that I’ve done. I need a way to undo the log instead of having to delete it or just log it again.
  • Needs Optimizations 2/5

    By Somedoodripping
I paid for and used this app religiously for a year while I was getting into weight lifting and I absolutely loved it. However, I am no longer using the app due to several issues and missing features that still have not been added. -#1 con, holy lag batman, seriously this app looks beautiful but it has the most laggy interface I have ever used and I’m on an iPhone 8plus. It freezes, clocks, or just becomes unresponsive. I have complained about this incessantly with it never being truly addressed and that is in part due to #2 con below. -#2 bugs. I am not sure if the developers of this app have ever heard of any kind of testing (unit testing, load testing, system testing etc.). The constant biggest miss is regression testing. Every update breaks at least one thing, but most of the time breaks several things, and usually there is a performance improvement that worked the last patch that they break in the next. This should be #1 but I was usually able to kind of work around the bugs, but the lag in the app was just too infuriating. -#3 biggest con for FitBod, let me create my own exercises (many are not listed or are variations of existing exercises). Lots of band exercises, kettle bell, machines, dumbbell, TRX, or body weight exercises just don’t exist in the app. I have since switched to Strong. It isn’t nearly as pretty as FitBod, it doesn’t have the cool tracking features (estimated 1RM), and it doesn’t have instructional videos. Personally, I no longer need instructions and getting rid of the lag and bug, plus being able to create my own workouts made the switch a no brainer. I really do hope they can turn it around, I would come back if it’s ever stable and I can create my own workouts... but I refuse to fund an app where the developers can’t seem to make a functioning app without bugs or lag.
  • Great for beginners and variance; progression algorithms don’t feel great 4/5

    By Brendino
This app is really well designed and very helpful for a beginner. Instructional videos and text really help with learning good form, and there are a lot of exercises that encourage you to try different things to keep your workouts fresh. It’s really helpful to be able to specify what weights you have so it can tailor a workout for you. Biggest complaint is that the algorithms don’t always seem all that smart. I’m never sure if it’s giving me a good recommendation based on how fatigued it thinks I am or if it’s just giving me bad advice. Recent example: I had just sent a one rep max for my benchpress, and two days later before my chest was recovered it was asking me to do multiple sets/reps at my just-set max.
  • Quick costumer support 4/5

    By ipodti
Customer support has helped me fixed the lost of data real quick.
  • Very slow and freezes constantly. 2/5

    By ICE Fanatic!
I like the set up of the app and it works well to get you started in the right direction. However, it is constantly freezing and crashing, even with the most recent updates. It has become almost unusable. For an app that you pay a subscription to, it is extremely disappointing they cannot figure out the issues. Currently looking for a different app that is comparable and will make the switch ASAP unless these issues are fixed.
  • My favorite workout app! 5/5

    By mojojo95
FitBod is really great at customizing workout plans based on the different muscle groups you want to focus on. It not only creates plans for you, but also allows you to further customize. What’s really neat about it is how the app tells you the exact muscle group each exercise is targeting. I have used the app for about 2 weeks now (4 times a week) and I love it!
  • Few suggestions but love it 5/5

    By Iquitdeletethisapp
I love the app so it lets me know what muscles I'm working and i love the fact you added foam rolling, stretching and resistance bands. Can you target more of the muscle groups region and ad more detail like the parts of the the glutes and abs like obliques. Other than that i love it.
  • Ripoff 1/5

    By phojesco
$10 a month just to track your home workouts? Ridiculous! This app is a rip off
  • Always the same workout 3/5

    By Krista117
If I wanted to do the same workout all the time, why do I need this app? But it is ALWAYS the same set of lower body exercises. Still takes forever to finalize workouts, if ever. Still tells me I’m recovered and ready to do the workout I just did the day before.
  • One of the best workout planners coming from a 8+ year lifter 5/5

    By who is PFT?
This app is fantastic at setting up workout splits for those who don’t have the time to do it themselves. Full body workouts are great for making sure you hit all your muscle groups working out only 2-3 times a week. More than that, it mixes up exercises so you’re not doing the same thing ever week (bench every chest day, regular squat every leg day etc.) Love the app
  • Great App 5/5

    By Houston123!
So far this app has been great, keep the updates coming. Great job!
  • Best workout app out there! 5/5

    By estefycorona87
By far the best workout app! It is like having personal trainer without paying personal trainer money.
  • The best! 5/5

    By isha weenie
Honestly I thought this app was going to be like the rest of the others such as trying to make you pay monthly to try to find out workouts. But when I started using this, it gave me so many workouts that I’ve never tried before and now I’m just happy this app exist!
  • Buggy 1/5

    By Brendan Rosa
Seriously what is wrong with developers today? Going in and out of the app causes it to become intermittently responsive. Allow us to add custom exercises or at least provide a place where people can submit exercise additions and be diligent with adding them. Make the UI more intuitive for certain things like side bridges. Something shouldn't need to take an Icon 101 college course. Please add labels to the buttons. Make a left side and right side button timer.
  • Slow, Lags 2/5

    By DannyKin
I used to love this app. Now there are so lags, delays, and the app runs so slow especially when logging entries or clicking on exercises.
  • Hooked from the first workout. 5/5

    By mikevene3
I have been working out consistently for 3 years and this app got me excited, even giddy if I’m being honest, to go to gym every morning—something that has not been the case for a bit. If you want to bring some excitement to your workout and get customized programming then this is the app for you. Linked with Nike Running Club App which was a huge plus for me as it tracks muscle tiredness when it’s creates workouts. Give it a go for free. You will be hooked.
  • Great 4/5

    By Moshtarak
Great app. All the features I’m looking for. My 3 star is due to the subscription. I don’t mind paying for an app but I’d like a workout app I can use long term and paying 60 a year for the next 10 years adds up
  • This app went downhill 1/5

    By Greg1013NYC
The bugs and glitches have gotten to the point that I waste time working out trying to log everything. This has been going on a few weeks now, I was hesitant to give it only 1 star but oh well. Fix this app, I regret spending money on a one year subscription. If it actually worked properly and didn’t ruin my workouts I would recommend.
  • Good app but some bugs/design decisions make to harder to use 4/5

    By magnificantmal
Apps good but I have some complaints: The set screens are overly sensative of registered touches. Grabbing my phone in my pocket has/can mess with your planned sets, changing weight or adding additional sets/reps. When running/cardio is included i find the time estimates are fairly inaccurate, has left me putting them to the back of the workout so i can cut it short if needed. There should be a way to permanently hide exercises and equipment needs during the workout from the swipe menu. There is no way to mark cardio as finished if your timer is interrupted (from phone or from changing the milestone). You have to start the timer over. Or skip the exercise entirely. Besides all that its fairly solid.
  • So far so good 5/5

    By djv990
Love that the work out is there along with reps and weight. Takes the place of planning a workout. Really like that you can replace an exercise with a different movement that works the same muscles in a split second in case the machine is not at your gym or someone is on it. It is making me work out muscle groups that I haven’t used before.
  • Great concept, but both strengths and bugs 3/5

    By noah_r
I’ve been using FitBod for about 6 months. I love the tailored workout concept and variety suggested. I know the app is responsible for getting me into the gym more and working harder when I’m there. At the same time bugs and quirks in the app seem to be getting worse and the frustrations from fussing with them in the middle of my workout are souring my rating. - workout muscle group customizations were reset after a recent update - selecting an exercise in the workout leading to a 5 second freeze and sometimes app crash - I had downloaded the exercise demo videos but that seems to be gone based on long load time. One of my two gyms has horrendous internet access. Maybe some problems described are related to connectivity timeouts.
  • Expensive for what you get 3/5

    By cy92677
I like the app overall but it would rate higher if the timer sounded when the app and phone aren’t on.
  • Great app....bit wish it was smarter 3/5

    By Esnipe
App wii not adapt unless you remove workouts manually. Even if you replace it everyday, it will suggest is every time that muscle group is up. With the new update... app seems to run much much slower. Hopefully things improve.
  • Buggy 1/5

    By Wzob
This app is so buggy and not functional. It doesn’t save your own workouts accurately and messes up when you use Apple Watch to input your sets. So tired of using this and paying monthly for it. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
  • I liked when it was free. 1/5

    By shelbeezyfosheezy
I used this app allllllllllll of the time when it had no cost to “start workout,” and it was freaking awesome. Very disappointed that it now costs an arm and leg to use it. I just deleted it, because there really is no point unless you pay.
  • Best workout app there is! 5/5

    By daynamooney
This is seriously the BEST workout app there is! Completely customizable! Even has a timer within in for stuff like plank
  • Good, needs to keep adding exercises 4/5

    By jbchjd
I wish there was away to make my own exercise because there’s some that I do that aren’t listed in the app.
  • Ok, Ok, Ok, I’m Reloaded!!!!! 5/5

    By CashGrunt
Man, just getting back into my workout routine and the programs I’m getting on FITBOD are sick! Just as I’m thinking the exercises are easy, they throw some abs at the end and get me on SWEAT mode. Great job FITBOD, best Father’s Day gift ever!
  • Perfect app for crashing and resetting after ever set 3/5

    By ChrisPParrish
If you’re looking for an app that consistently crashes/freezes, FitBod is for you. Other than that, it’s useful.
  • More band resistance exercises 5/5

    By Athena31ny
Please pretty please add more exercises, love the app but I was wanting more Booty exercises and exercise resistance bands. The bands around the ankles or thighs the circle ones
  • Your digital friend that gets you into working out 5/5

    By Gymphobicnomore
I read app reviews to try to identify with the people who use it, and see if I identify with them first. Then, I look to see their critique of how it works. To that end, I did not grow up knowing I needed to work out and exercise. I never had friends who did so either. This app is the ambassador to being comfortable at the gym, with the equipment, and with yourself. Even when I tried personal trainers, they weren’t as organized and able to give me the tracking I wanted for myself in a meaningful way. I can go it alone and at my own pace with Fitbod. It employs the “hooked” design methodology to keep you coming back and engaged with being healthy, which I applaud as so many apps today use those principles for only their own gain. Well done, Fitbod team, and thank you!!
  • Awesome sauce! 5/5

    By MelRuff2019
I love this app!! Worth every penny! I am not a newcomer to working out and lifting but i got to the point of now wanting to sit down and figure out my workouts for the week. With this app it does that for you and it does it very well! Giving you workouts based on fresh muscle groups so you are never over exerted! Love it!!

  • Than you 5/5

    By zkirkman2010
I love this app for helping me at the gym for telling me what to do each day! An I like that it holds all your info so the weight suggestions is always helpful
  • I’m in love! 5/5

    By cschr001
I’ve been waiting for an app like this! The only feature I’m hoping for in the future is being able to incorporate drop sets in to the routine without it looking like separate sets (unless I just haven’t figured it out yet). But all in all it’s everything I’ve hoped for in a fitness app. Can’t recommend enough!
  • Fitbod 5/5

    By Fiddy61
I have had this app for over a year and it has been the best source for daily workouts. The price is also very affordable and the app is easy to use. I can definitely tell that I am stronger, thanks again to the workouts that are at my disposal. I would recommend this app to anyone looking for something inexpensive and easy to use.
  • Great for all levels and predicts weight 5/5

Great for all levels and predicts weight
  • Bugs bugs bugs 4/5

    By chadg8706
I like the app due to tracking etc... but every morning for the first 30 mins of my workout the app freezes constantly. This is annoying and needs to be fixed. I had this app for going on a year now and it used to never do this until all the new updates.
  • Syncing not properly 2/5

    By Lucky Frodo Baggins
This issue I have had been going on for a bout a year and I don’t know if the developers have failed to fix it or it just keeps coming back. As a lifter it’s frustrating after you get two exercises done with multiple sets and reps to switch back to phone or watch and the whole progress is cleared. I seriously didn’t have issues with String app. I’m seriously thinking of switching back. This is ridiculous over a year of this issue and no solutions.
  • Better than hiring a trainer 5/5

    By lmlhb
I used to be a trainer and when I pursued a different career I started to lose motivation to get to the gym and I had really bad burn out. I tried this app and now I jump out of bed at 5am because I am so excited to see what my next workout it. I can’t believe it only comes out to $5 a month. My clients used to pay 10X that for one session. Amazing. Novice or pro- this program is for you.
