Footpath Route Planner app reviews

  • Best route planning app out there! 5/5

    By TomPalizzi
    Love it! Easy to use
  • Great Concept 5/5

    By Markdev
It’s a little frustrating at times. It takes a while to get it right and you have to do a lot of the erasing Especially with unintended loops. But I love it I like setting up a nice little course to do on my bicycle just with my fingers on a map. All in all, well done
  • far better than strava 5/5

    By Justamar
The features in this app are far more refined than Strava! :)
  • Better than Strava 5/5

    By StephenAT
Purchased an elite subscription as soon as I saw the Cycling Tips article that showed how Strava copied this app with their route finding feature. Innovation should be rewarded, not ripped off. Footpath is better in several ways: its more precise, you can build a route segment-by-segment, you can edit routes, it has automatic loops and out-and-back, it shows elevation, ....
  • Smh 1/5

    By stuntsticks
Terrible didn’t map out correct distances
  • Cool app; no a fan of the monetization scheme 3/5

    By nutter921
It’s a cool, simple, intuitive walk/run mapping app. I’m just not fan of paying $2 to view details on past walks and runs. I’m also not interested in a subscription. I’d probably pay a one-time fee, but the current schemes aren’t anything I’m interested in. If it were free or I could pay one-time for premium, I’d rate it higher.
  • Disappointed 1/5

    By iabdisnejab
You can only have 1 rout unless you sign up for an annual subscription
  • Love! 5/5

    By Kmo9292
Love the app, very smooth, no issues so far.
  • Great help in planning trail runs! 5/5

    By WandaW
Easy to draw on the map, the snap to function is pretty intuitive. I especially like the button to see the elevation profile of the run I’m scoping out.
  • Helps me with planning my runs 5/5

    By jackx490
This helps me plan my runs around my house or anywhere I feel like it. It also has other settings such as hiking, walking, etc... The app will also tell you how long it should take to complete the lap.
  • Trails hard to find 4/5

    By hammermelon
While I have loved this app, I find that identifying bike trails on the map very difficult. Is their a reason they cannot be colored so the do not blend in with the other roads?
  • Awesome running app! 5/5

    By USAF3032
Footpath has been life changing for me. I was always timid to run around cities and towns if my wife and I are traveling, but not anymore! I love this app because you can go on a GPS map and draw your routes out, and it can snap the lines you draw to roads/paths, or you can just free draw the path (useful if you aren’t running on roads, like across a field). This app has helped motivate me to run more and stay fit!
  • Excellent app 5/5

    By Leoneo88
Excellent app for planning runs, bike rides or hikes.
  • Great and getting better 5/5

    By P11 Rok
This app was really useful for runners to begin and they’ve improved it significantly. Well done!
  • Very useful 5/5

    By Haan So Low
I use this to plan my runs, and I now have a deck of known-distance runs saved in the app. I like how it snaps to roads and walking paths, and especially how intelligently it responds to edits to the run path....like when cutting out sections of the run or when expanding the run to other streets. Keep up the great work!
  • Great App; Great Update 5/5

    By Street and Trail Runner
The application is quick and easy to create great running routes with distance and elevation profiles. The recent 2018 update makes it even better.
  • Works great! 5/5

    By hm03surf
Seems to be just like the videos suggest. Easy to use and valuable.
  • Simple, easy, reliable, intuitive 5/5

    By ajaramo2
Very good. I travel a lot an this app lets me design routs through areas I want with the length I want. It now also gives you elevations
  • excellent 5/5

    By guitardist
For years I’ve used Footpath to plan my hikes and paddles, I can see everything I need to know about a trail in great detail before I set out. The newest update is wonderful, graphically the maps are really nice, there is an option to make lists to sort routes, and snapping to trail/street is working very well when drawing a route. I upgraded to Footpath Elite to access the topo and nautical maps. The developer is friendly, active, and helpful. I love outdoor activities and I use this app daily, it’s indispensable.
  • Won’t use again 1/5

    By LexisAlex
This app is very difficult to use, it’s snap to road feature does not work well at all and it’s tracking is super inaccurate.
  • INCREDIBLE!!! 5/5

    By boonefork
I’ve been hoping for this app for years. It is truly incredible; allows me to chart my hiking routes and shows trails that I wasn’t aware of. Thank you!
  • The recent update is not good 3/5

    By Bassfever220
This was a 5 star before the recent update. Ever since the update it does not work well, the maps are not near as good, you have to manually change it from satellite to map, before it was automatic. The routes many time hang up and will not show, just not good. Frustrating . I am now searching for something else to use as the app is not great any more. Really too bad, it was great
  • Won’t draw where you’ve walked 3/5

    By Johnnierr
Thought it would have drawn a trail to show where I have already walked. I would have paid extra for that because it’s what I need.
  • Easy Run Routes 5/5

    By Dark Cricket
I love this APP. Super easy route recon at your fingertips. Great for planning the perfect run, ride, or just adventure.
  • Latest update decreases functionality 1/5

    By Pezcador
I’ve had to get a new route map since your update is using poor maps. I can’t see the streets or structures I run by.
  • Great app, figure out routes quickly 5/5

    By Matts08
This is amazing. The run mapping app I’ve been waiting for. If I’m trying to figure out a run to do on roads and want a basic idea of distance, I don’t have to spend 10 minutes using some online mapper hoping I don’t accidentally click on a business and have to hit undo a bunch. This takes about 30 seconds to figure out how long a route you may have in mind is. Great app!
  • Simply amazing 5/5

    By happymacaron
    Thank you!
  • New version a big plus! 5/5

    By cobaev
I e been using this app for a long time. Though there are flashier ways of mapping and tracking courses- I love this app. New version (9/18) a big plus! Has a lot of small trails in some very small towns. Kudos to the developers!
  • No more foot paths 2/5

    By J. Earley
The recent change in map provider for this app has lost the ability to route the small footpaths that google maps had. These paths provide all sorts of connections to parks and neighborhoods here. This app is no longer useful for planning routes around my area.
  • This app is incredible 5/5

    By Lewismw
I use Footpath multiple times a week and couldn’t be more impressed. Most of my runs are on trails and my Garmin isn’t even close to as accurate as this app. The trail maps are remarkably extensive and I also use it find trails which don’t appear on Garmin, Google, or Strava. Most of my experience with this app is in Portland, Oregon but I use it when I travel and it’s worked great everywhere I’ve been. Overall the app is intuitive and easy to use. The drawing feature is super useful with snap to map on or off and everything loads really quickly. The maps are beautiful and the ability to store lots of routes made the elite version worth it for me. I’ll be using this app for a long time.
  • Hate the new changes 2/5

    By runnergirl 28
The app was good, now they have updated and if you need to go over the same roads more than once it doesn’t accept it. Very frustrating when you’re trying to do a route that passes the same roads more than once.
  • Great app for runners 5/5

    By Devilish look
Sometimes I like to just run. No GPS, no phone. Now I know exactly what my distance was without having to be connected to anything but nature...
  • Excellent GPX planning app 5/5

    By TexDrex
When I ditched my MacBook Air several months ago, I was looking for a replacement to using my previous route planing website, which allowed for GPX export I could then subsequently load onto my Garmin Fenix 3. What seemed like an easy chore, proved very difficult. Footpath was the solution I was looking for! Easily planned routing, saving, and subsequent export to my device has made this app a no-brainer for me. The recent Fall upgrade has made it even better. Question: previously, I was able to manually arrange my created/saved routes in any order I wished. I’m not able to do that since the most recent update. Am I missing this feature, or was it removed? Previously, I tapped the “edit” button, and, in addition to the red delete symbols along the side, it had little “grabbers” beside each route that I used to order them according to my preference.
  • Great app 5/5

    By Pauls Pens
Love this app but crashes on IOS 12! Just a quick update, quick response from the developer and problem fixed. This is a great app with great support.
  • Works great - needs watch version 3/5

    By M_Ryburn
This app is a great concept & I love that it gives directions for the route. I used it to create routes una local park as I prepare for a half marathon - so helpful. I could really use a watch version of it as well since I do t run with my phone. I was really surprised to see there wasn’t one. With that I’d be all about the 5⭐️
  • Positive 5/5

    By ABelleDavis
It’s an amazing app, it’s easy to use.I track all of my runs I do with it. It’s way easier than the other apps I have tried.
  • Great app for runners 5/5

    By lrf26p2
This is my go-to app for planning runs. The interface is very clean and easy to use. Well done! Highly recommended.
  • Amazing idea! 4/5

    By capitanpano
I would give it 5 stars if it had an app for Apple Watch and you could send your routes there and get directions!
  • Pretty Pointless 1/5

    By Mikeatcut
You really need to know the route you want to take to be able to draw it properly on the map. And if you already know the route, what’s the point if the app?
  • Free version of app is horrible! 2/5

    By olivia_is_great
I got the free version of this app to create routes for cycling with my bike club/walking my dog and it was awful! You can only view your most recent route that you’ve made and you have to delete all others to see just one! The idea is great and I’m sure the “elite version” is amazing because until I found out I can only view my most recent route, I was loving this app. If you are willing to pay for the full version then this app is great for you but if you aren’t, steer clear of this app and don’t waste your time. Also, with the free version, once you have saved the route you can’t edit it and you have to make an entirely new one! If you are in need of an app like this and think that you would use it on a daily basis then I think you should get the full version but if you’re like me and just getting this app to try out and use rarely then definitely stay away.
  • It didn’t take long for the app to act up! 2/5

    By JJM🇭🇹🇺🇸4
I was fine with creating different routes for running, but you have to pay for saving and reusing multiple routes. So I decided to share my route to my text message to my phone, but now the app keeps freezing up. I enjoy the purpose of this app which deserve a 2 star otherwise, this is a TRUE 1 STAR!
  • The best has just gotten better 5/5

    By Hurri47
OK this is going to be a rave. Nobody is mentioning what I thought was the most interesting thing about new version 3. The old version would switch maps automatically depending on zoom level, but the new Footpath Outdoors map appears to just combine all the information of the old maps without the jarring switch. The tutorial is very brief with only the basics covered, but if you haven’t found a feature you want - for me it was how to switch snap types on the fly - keep poking controls in the corners and it’s a good bet you’ll find it in one of them. (The snap switch is a few extra taps to switch but it does work smoothly and consistently.) The new editing tools are hugely welcome! I don’t recall if I could edit saved routes in the old version, but that’s in here now. I haven’t found a way to edit start points, so unless I’m just missing something I’d recommend zooming in very close on your start point and then backing out to complete the route. I also appreciate the new account system where I can create/edit routes on my iPad and see the same routes on my iPhone. The grandfathering of my old saved routes into the iPad was very nice - I was briefly afraid I’d have to pay again until I found the secret instruction to invoke it. (Pssst - hey dev, I’d have paid it anyway, but thanks, that was very kind.)
  • Pay to use 2/5

    By AlecCar
I thought it was gonna be a free to use offline map. Instead, you have to pay to use the app.
  • If it ain't broke don't fix it 1/5

    By STEEL3MAN
Very confusing hard to Navaigate Old app much better
  • Amazing 5/5

    By haleakala28
This app is the best. Planning routes literally can't be easier or faster. Get it now ! (Subscription based apps stink though. They take all your money)
  • Simple and powerful 5/5

    By Kshimo
I used this for one month during a cycling trip and loved it. Altitude, distance, it has everything, and extremely simple to use. I’ve tried 10+ similar products and this is my fav.
  • New Version removes features to force subscription 1/5

    By ToonMusic
Think twice about downloading the latest version of this app. They changed it to push you into their "Elite" subscription plan... USGS topos and other maps are no longer available unless you pay. Lame move Footpath.
  • Great app, but backend is falling down 1/5

    By beamrider9
I used to use this app daily to plan my running route, then it started having backend errors constantly when snapping to roads and sat broken for a long time. The developer updated it but whatever new mapping backend it’s using is not good. The app displays Google Maps but the backend that does the snapping to roads clearly uses a different mapping provider. Very frequently it doesn’t match the Google Maps map and makes it hard to accurately plan a route - it misses a lot of trails and does some odd things on roads. It’s often impossible to make a simple route without disabling road snapping. I’ve switched to a different route planning app without this problem and deleted Footpath.
  • Very Helpful! 4/5

    By IDontFeelLikeIt
Works great to plot courses in unfamiliar places.
