Not User Friendly 1/5
For a gaming and technology magazine their app is garbage. I found it to be virtually impossible to connect my subscription to my online account. Then I was unable to connect that online account to the app. Pretty disappointing coming from a gaming magazine that I really do enjoy reading.
Always Crashes for iPhone 1/5
I never make it more than 2 pages into any issue and the app crashes. It’s been like this for months.
Failure to Launch 1/5
This app has a lot of potential. When it works, it works well. However, there are several issues under my subscription that force the app to close without any error messages. It doesn’t matter if I remove it and find missing issues. Either way, certain issues cause a crash. If this can be fixed I would gladly give it a 5 Star. In its current state, it is too frustrating.
Lags out every time i try to read a magazine!!!
Broken mess 1/5
Almost completely unresponsive or will crash after a long delay. This app is worthless as it is. I am unable to read my paid for subscriptions.
I renewed my subscription but I don’t get the new issues when they appear I tried 2 ways delete the app an logged out.....
2.3 fixes issues 4/5
Newest revision fixed a glaring issue with the UI. It’s a great mag with nice exclusives and good articles that make for fine think pieces on gaming and its industry. The awesome covers make me long for the days when I received physical copies, but I appreciate how I have all my issues at my fingertips (or with an easy download).
By Ethan Campbell brown
Please fix where the pages keep turning back. I’m reading or scrolling and it automatically flips to the previous page. I love GI. Please fix and I’ll give it 5 stars.
Crashes on iPhone X 1/5
Just got the new version. Still crashes as soon as you hit “read” on an iPhone X. I will not be renewing my subscription.
Waste of (life, time, money) 1/5
By DJ:JR Burrows
Thought I’d be cool with my iPad and read all the latest gaming news. Not only does this app not work, it denies you from logging in most of the time. Go on, try calling for help. You’ll get the dumbest person whom ever existed on the other end (after over an hour of holding). Save yourself the headache and kill a tree... stick to the print
Filled with bugs. 1/5
App crashes trying to delete old issues. Have to call support every year when I renew because this app can’t recognize I’m still a subscriber. GameStop/GameInformer should be embarrassed to have their name associated with this program.
Misdirected hate in the Reviews—App and content 5/5 5/5
By Sparky Guru
I don’t understand why this app is rated so poorly. The only thing I can think of is that Gameinformer is receiving a lot of misdirected Gamestop hate.
I am running this app on the newest version of iOS on an iPad Pro 9.7 inch and the digital magazine is beautiful. 99% of the complaints users have about Navigation is resolved if you read the User Interface Demo that pops up after opening the app for the first time. To address one complaint I’m seeing pop up in a lot of reviews: to back out of an issue and access the main menu again, tap and lightly hold the screen and the User Interface will pop up. The demo is also available for access at any time in the “help” tab in case if you forget the gesture controls.
I have had absolutely no issues running this app. Magazines download fine, pages turn beautifully, the scroll feature works great, imbedded videos and their sound play seamlessly. There have been zero crashes with my use over the past year since switching to digital.
As far as the content of the magazines — no, these are not PDF copies of the print magazines. All of the text is there, but the arrangement is catered to being on a digital device and digital users actually get MORE than people receiving print magazines. For each game or event mentioned, you get direct links to view additional previews, reviews, and features on the Gameinformer website. You even get direct links to purchase games from game-stop—should you choose to purchase games from there. Imbedded videos are wonderful. When I see a new game that I’m interested in, a lot of times Gameinformer will have a trailer right there on the page for me to watch at that exact moment.
My experience with this app has been incredibly user friendly. Images, videos, and sound are beautiful on my iPad and I don’t regret switching my subscription to digital. Also, I really enjoy the high quality editorial presentation of the features. The writing is adept and packed with information. We live in a world where we get news every second of every day, so monthly magazines are struggling to compete. Gameinformer is succeeding in maintaining relevance through this app.
Just Bad 1/5
Haven’t been able to link my subscription or read an issue without paying for the issue again in over a year! The worst part is that the company just doesn’t care. No one has bothered to update this app since it launched.
Poorly made 1/5
By French Toast FT
I love the idea of the app but there are way too many bugs for me to remotely enjoy using it. A lot of reviews say they can't back out of a issue, which I've never had any problems with (just press and hold on the middle of a page and it will give you the option to back out), but I've had major problems with things as simple as turning pages. I will turn the page and it will get stuck half way and it won't let me continue turning or reading. I have to turn back a page and go forward again about 4/5 times before it skips the page I want to goto and then I can back into the page in order to read it. Also the purchase and other links at the problem are generally buggy. It won't actually launch the site but instead, it will just sit there and act like I never pressed it.
Also the biggest issue I have is that I can't load some issues that are in my library. I have a subscription, and yet it won't let me read the issue unless I spend $5 to buy it individually. I am currently having that issue with my monster hunter world December 2017 issue.
If you have the choice to get the physical copy, do that instead. The app has been broken forever and a day and no one's doing anything to fix issues that have been around since the app launched.
iPhone 4 stars/iPad 1. 2/5
Works great on the iPhone even though issues take forever to Download. However I find it useless on the iPad. Who buys a iPad to read a magazine in landscape rotation? Every other magazine on earth is in portrait.
Doesnt work 1/5
I click download and it just stays at 0% forever. I have force closed, restarted, reinstalled app and ofc made sure my subscription is current. Very frustrating.
I see what this app has two stars 1/5
By DeVante D
I can't find out how to get back to he main library without closing and reopening the app a thousand times.
Great mag, horrid app 1/5
Downloading the app takes forever like 10 to 20 minutes or more and if u multitask while it downloads it stops n u gotta start all over again. Get the paper backs.
This App is Horrible 1/5
I went to GameStop and i always turn down the pro membership. I know I was going to be purchasing the Switch and Xbox One X this year, so I joined to earn points. I was also interested in the game informer magazine. So, I downloaded the app in attempts to view the magazine. It NEVER happened. I was never able to link my subscription! I called the help line and they reset my account and it still didn't work. Also, the help line takes $20 minutes to get in touch with a rep. Don't waste your money!
App-breaking bug makes it very difficult to change pages. This app needs major tuning. Why am I paying for a magazine subscription if I can't even read the magazine?!
Fix this 2/5
I enjoy reading the issues, but it crashes every time I try to remove an issue. I know I'm not the only one, others have said the same. Fix this now.
Horrible App 1/5
I thought this app would have been fixed a month ago. Every time I tap an issue to read it the app crashes. I'm paying for a subscription I can't even use. 0/10 would not renew ever again. Two issues in and I've only seen the covers.
Too difficult to use 2/5
I like the look of the issues on the phone, unfortunately it is difficult to navigate. I try to scroll down and it swipes me to a different page or it doesn't switch pages when I actually want it too. Also I can't figure out how to get back to the library; I have to completely shut down the app and re-open it and hope I'm not still stuck in the old issue.
I don't think the creators of this app have actually ever used it, their help function tells you to do things to navigate that are not there. I really expected more out of Gameinformer, simple overhaul guys!
Needs to be updated 2/5
Crashes a lot and there are issues that I can't delete. If I try to remove them the app crashes. UI could use some improving too.
It looks like a good app, however, I can't download or read an issue. Why is that?
No problem found 5/5
I think it a useful app
By Joey McGlone
An absolute tire fire of an app omg...
This app is terrible. The interface is crap -- half the time it is practically impossible to navigate back to the home screen to change the current issue you are trying to view. This thing needs an overhaul!
Asks me to pay when I already have a subscription... was great when it was working.
Paid for the subscription at GameStop used the same email and password to login. Guess what nothing ,"Unable to locate your account." Fix your broken app
"Just put in your 8-digit subscriber number" they said... "It's easy and seamless" they said.
Well this guy will continue his printed magazine subscription. The digital version is unaccessible and a sad reflection of the printed version.
Helpful hint. 5/5
Too all of you who claim they cannot leave the current issue they are reading, just hold your finger at the top of the screen. Figured this out within the first 30 seconds of reading an issue :/
Great app 5/5
To everyone complaining about not being able to exit the app, all you need to do is hold your finger on the screen for a second and a menu pops up. Anyway the app works great, the interactive elements are awesome and the layout is great. Highly recommended.
So glad to have this app!! 5/5
I've spent the past year only occasionally reading this mag on my computer because it wasn't the easiest to navigate and I rarely sit down at a computer outside of work. This app makes reading each issue so much easier!
Navigating is very simple, and for those idiots who can't figure out how to get out of an issue, try reading the "how to: the basics" page right after the table of contents at the beginning. It explains everything right there. It also has a link at the bottom that takes you to a nice little FAQ, which informed me that unfortunately, the only back issues available on the iPhone app are from November 2016 on. Which makes sense if that's when they started formatting the issues for the iPhone. Luckily, they have back issues on the iPad going back to July 2012 so I just need to go download this on my iPad to read any others I missed.
I have to say, I LOVE how they've formatted the issues for the iPhone. It's so nice being able to read an entire article on one screen just by scrolling up and down. Having to flip pages back and forth on the computer version to read the whole article and check out all the images and captions could get tiresome.
I also had zero trouble logging in and having my subscription automatically applied. I was immediately able to download the issue that just came out without apple trying to charge me again. And the back issues (from November and December) were immediately available as well.
Overall this is an excellent app that I'm really excited to have going forward. I'm much more likely to actually read every issue now that it's not such a pain.
Broken app 1/5
Tried to download issues and just get blue spinning circle for infinity. Deleted and reinstalled app, no help.
App would be 5, but 1/5
Log in with my GameStop account name and password, currently paid up and it's telling me I need to buy current issues. Sigh, guess I'll just go back to reading it on my laptop as either GameStop or apple are being greedy(maybe both, I'm not paying more for something I'm already subscribed to)
Broken App 1/5
App is broken. Tried to download and read new issues and the App shuts down.
HORRIBLE APP 1/5
I'm stuck inside an issue, pretty stupid.
Not good 1/5
By Praise the Lord!!!
I can't even get out of the current magazine to go back and read others. I'm sure I'm just missing a button somewhere but it's not a good format. It will sure take me to safari to purchase something right away as soon as I hit an add or a coupon though.
Worst experience 1/5
Game informer makes me want to kill myself
Love this app 5/5
Ok so guess what I just figured out people's u can download other issues and figure out what months u wanna download and use while on the app I know it's hard to believe but for everyone who has downloaded the app and is using it look no further when you are upset that it doesn't go home to see more issues or have a home screen while on the issue you are on just push and hold your finger on the screen (works with iOS) sorry it's what I own and then it gives you an more options to select I know I couldn't believe it myself but now everyone knows
Easy to use 4/5
By Larry Jenkins
Those of you having issues navigating the app, simply press your finger on the screen to bring up the menu.
Surprisingly bad 1/5
So bad/broken for so long that it's amazing Apple quality control allows it to stay in the store. GS needs to start over.
Missed the last 4 or 5 issues because it refuses to work on my iPad.
Epic fail. I didn't want paper but am not left with much choice.

THIS APP IS BROKEN!!! STICK TO YOUR iPAD IF YOU WANT THE DIGITAL GI. FIX THIS 💩
Update this app to let me purchase old GI issues

Do yourself a favor and opt for the mail-in subscription. This app simply doesn't work. You'll end up having to view on your computer... like a caveman.
A Long Awaited Addition 4/5
Gameinformer is a member of games journalism's oldest form- the magazine. It's been around for longer than my entire life, and for as long as I can remember, it's been the one consistent thing I've read. They've finally released a mobile version to look at your latest issues, but a few missing features hold it back from being my main source of their material.
The UI is incredibly easy to use. At the main menu, subscribers just have to sign into GI's website to access their digital magazine, and then from there you just download the magazines that you want to read, then read them. It's that simple. However, a major oversight is the inability to look at much older magazines, as I'm allowed to by using Chrome on my phone, using the PC browser format from the website instead.
That isn't a better option for mobile, though. This new Gameinformer app is the most intuitive way to read their content on your phone or tablet. The swiping of pages can be a little finicky, and the tutorial mission doesn't do a great job of explaining how to leave an issue to come back to later. But apart from these annoyances, it's a joy to read the content on the go. I feel that the visual appeal and aesthetic is partially lost in this version, where entire articles just have you scroll down instead of swipe to another virtual page. It hinders the flow, and makes it much less visually striking than the print or other digital versions.
The biggest missing feature of the app is the extended GI canon is sorely absent. Much like Bungie's decision with Destiny's grimoire lore, all of the additional videos, podcasts, and articles are only found on the GI website outside of the app itself. It would be terrific to use this app as my only application for GI on mobile devices. Instead, because of its partial usefulness, I'm caught between two versions that are only strong in some areas.
But if you're only interested in the excellent writing in the magazines, then this app is great. It's incredibly intuitive to read, and setup is easier than any other subscription on the App Store. For the rest of us, you'll be left with a feeling of an incomplete GI experience.
Gameinformer Silver: 8.5/10
Concept: Bring the current magazines of GI to a mobile level, but leave out the extras
Graphics: The UI is simple, but don't expect much for color. It's mostly gray
Sound: The atmosphere is minimal, as there is a clear absence of sound effects and music
Playability: Apart from some finicky page turns and an unhelpful tutorial of the UI, the controls are easy to use and intuitive
Entertainment: If you enjoy reading GI magazines on the go, this is the best format. If you're looking to read older issues and extend GI Online content, look elsewhere
Continuous crashes 1/5
App keeps crashing every time I try to read a magazine. It doesn't work at all.
Cant get out of issue 2/5
Similar to other reviewer, I seem to be stuck in the issue. I can swipe through the pages ok, but No intuitive way to get out and back to library. Also, do not like being forced to use in landscape mode. On a good note, content and interactive/multimedia components good.
