Because there’s no tutorial, I set up a simple mock budget to check out how the features work. I used all whole dollar numbers, no coins represented. Then I saw an odd entry that it wouldn’t let me delete - and I realized how impossible it seems to be to make changes once you’ve gone through the set up. I was redirected from the app to the website, where I was able to delete the odd entry (which I know I didn’t make because it was for something like $1763.49 and I was using exclusively whole numbers, ending in zeros). I deleted that and tried making other modifications while in the browser, and then found that my budget was again showing with a dollar amount that couldn’t have been produced by the numbers I entered. Somewhere - in some place I’ve not been able to locate, yet another budget factor was added for something like and additional 174.99. I tried to find a simple way to ask a question, but I’m not interested in having to go to a forum and poll other users for possible fixes based on their experiences. If I can’t ask a direct question to the people who get paid to keep the app out there, I’m not interested.
I can see how this app could be useful, but i don’t have time to figure out how to figure out where these random numbers are coming from. A tutorial is a valuable asset. It’s actually pretty easy to do a budget in excel. I thought this would be an easy at your fingertips alternative, but it’s just too much of a headache, especially with zero customer service. No thanks.
Awful interface 2/5
This app, while being decent at what it’s supposed to do, is very hard to pick up. I deleted it purely on how infuriating it is to properly work. I recommend trying to find something a little more use friendly
Has saved me hundreds..if not more 5/5
Love everything about this app. Was never a huge fan of linking my accounts to apps and them having my information. I much prefer being more hands-on with my finances, and this app allows that. The envelope method works great for me. Making you log every transaction helps keep you (well, me at least) more accountable and aware of how much money you have spent and have left to spend. The $50/year subscription is worth it to me, considering without this app I’m sure I’d be out more than $50. My one complaint is not being able to edit or add debit transactions on the app, it must be done on the website. This isn’t a huge inconvenience, but I do hope this feature is added soon!

Need more then one account
Very very confused 1/5
I just wanted a tool to track my expenses and give me a category graph breakdown. Idk what an envelope is. The interface did not explain anything and clicking around just made me more confused.
Not very useful for me 2/5
The app isn’t very intuitive for me. It doesn’t show your actual income anywhere and after searching for 20 minutes I can’t understand how to do basic things like mark my bills as paid.
Didn’t get to use 3/5
It is limited and you only get 10 envelopes per month. I wanted to make one for each bill and it wasn't possible without paying. Does seem like a good program, but I can’t really tell you if it is or not.
The app was confusing I didn’t understand how to use it.
I cannot manage my spending transactions 1/5
I cannot manage my spending transactions. I can’t find guides to help me understand how to use the app.
Thanks for helping me spend and save in line with my values! 5/5
I’ve been using Goodbudget for several years now, and it’s been so helpful for keeping track of my money. I’ve been able to notice trends in unnecessary spending to cut back and save for things like vacation and fun, and to give toward causes I support. I love how goal envelopes do the math for me to help me save for long-term expenses. And with scheduled transactions, Goodbudget takes care of my regular payments and fills, so I don’t have to. The plus subscription is totally worth it to have unlimited accounts and envelopes!
Never Again 1/5
I have been using the unpaid version of this app for over a year and have loved it. Then, today my husband and I decided to upgrade. IT’S A RIP-OFF!!!!
So, basically I paid $50 to add as many envelopes as I want to my primary account. When adding a Savings account it throws the balances off in the envelopes but the “Accounts” would show correct or vice versa.
Worst $50 I have ever spent. No help. Online research yielded zip on their website. And, they get to keep $50 knowing they are not providing a darn thing for it. Word of advice - DON’T UPGRADE!
It will cost you if you want to put in more than 10 envelopes to track spend
I have been using this ap for one year now. I had never really lived on a budget before and after spending quite a bit more than I made last year, decided it was time for a change. This ap is SO easy to use and I’m proud to say, that after one full year, I managed to cut my spending by $10,500. I was more thoughtful about the purchases I made and didn’t feel like I had to go without too much. I even went on two trips this year and I still came out way ahead! It’s amazing how quickly frivolous spending adds up. Try this ap. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you so much Goodbudget!! ❤️
Using this for 6 years 5/5
I have been using this for 6 years and would strongly recommend to people who are interested to track where the money is spent. Best part is the reports that can be generated in envelopes/month wise .
Amazing app! 5/5
This app is amazing and has really helped me to spend less - within my budget - what I can & cannot afford. For those of you who think that it is too complicated to use, I would say to just start using it and read the tutorials. Then you will begin to understand and get the hang of it.
Best budget app in the entire world. Their staff really goes out of their way. Currently I just use the free version, but do plan to upgrade when the time is right and I can afford to do so. To the app creators, I say ‘keep up the good work’.👍🏻🙂
Great Envelope Budgeting App 5/5
By Hai Neko
I rarely leave reviews, but I enjoy the app and their customer service so much that I wanted to say something.
This is, hands down, my favorite budgeting app, and I have tried several out. I have used both the free and paid versions and they do exactly as they say.
My favorite features are the ability to split a transaction between multiple envelopes and the adorable faces on the envelopes themselves. :)
I recently had an issue and the problem was resolved within a day. It is rare to receive such customer service these days! Thank you.
Just a question 5/5
Are there plans to roll this out as an iPad app as well?
Keeps getting the math wrong 3/5
By Laurabell Brady
This app is nice but it’s hard to get funds allocated to the correct places it doesn’t keep up with updating
You’re ahead/behind for the month not working... 4/5
Hi! Love Good Budget but I am half way through the month. I have $100 allocated for eating out and spend 6.00. It says, Good job, you’re ahead by .15?? Scratching my head... I don’t understand the math on this? Help!
Great Money Saver 5/5
Absolutely love this app. I actually feel organized now. I just wish I knew how to use Quicken to export files. A video tutorial for that would help but great app.
Other accounts 3/5
This is an awesome app! That being said, they need to let you have a separate group of envelopes that are not tied together with your separate accounts.
By AKA TLC
This app is awesome. We used to use Quicken and it would take forever to update the program then try to see how much was in the budget. Plus, their budget feature is seriously flawed. It’s an after thought at best. Goodbudget is different because you can update as you go and you enter thru the budget. At any given time you can see how much is in the budget. Even on your phone. So easy and logical. It has been a game changer for us.
Staying on budget used to be hard because we never knew how much was in the budget. Now it’s just hard because it can be hard to stay on a budget. But it’s easy to see how far off budget we are!!!
Great way to keep family budget! 4/5
My husband and I have been using this app for a year and we love it! We use multiple credit cards for the rewards so in the past it has been almost impossible to track how much we have left to spend in our budget. This allows us to set a spending budget for the categories that we want and know in real time who is spending what in each category and how much we have left! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the app makes you carry forward any negative balance or positive balance to the next month. And it’s a little complicated the clear it. I wish there was an option to not carry forward that balance.
Most confusing app ever 1/5
One of the most confusing budget apps ever
Good luck trying to use the app on the phone and trying to understand the way to add transactions and accounts and how exactly a single change will alter the whole thing. Deleting this app and profile now. Also, their YouTube tutorials don’t help because that’s for web and not app
Excellent App 5/5
I’ve been using this app for several years now it’s become an integral part of my finances and would be very sad if it no longer existed.
We’re very happy with this app. I only wish it would fill it on the last day of the month like I’ve asked it to. Other than that it’s great.
Great for really seeing where your money’s going 5/5
A great way to keep track of your spending...particularly for couples. You can both input purchases. It is really eye opening to see where your money goes and it has given us a much greater sense of control over our finances. We can always see where we are in relation to our budget and never have to worry about being blindsided. Easy to use although we have to manually readjust each month since we prefer not to carry over excess/debt and want to start from zero.
Fantastic App 4/5
By Camtastic 5
Excellent app- love the auto update feature. It would be five stars if I could search transactions on the app.
Love the new look! 5/5
Glad to see the developers update the app to better reflect the recent web update. My fav budget app of all time got all that much better. Keep up the good stuff!
Please automatically transfer transactions from my bank account 1/5
I was about to pay for this app until I realized I would have to add all transactions manually. I will be going back to YNAB for this feature.
I don’t get the “You’re ahead or behind” feature 4/5
I just downloaded this app. Everything looks great, I just don’t understand the envelope note “you’re ahead $$ or you’re behind $$”
Good but could be better 4/5
Pretty good. Wish it was a little more customizable, though I’m a college student and my budgeting needs are different than most. My main issue is that I keep getting a pop up that it has trouble syncing and it will try again later but it fixes itself instantly. Annoying.
Budgeting done! 5/5
I have been using the app for one year and it has helped me do a complete 180 with my finances. I use to always be broke living one paycheck to another and now I have money saved and bills paid the second they arrive. The app helps you see where all of your money is going as long as you input everything you spend. The app is super easy to input the expenses and only take a few seconds once you have all your categories set. I don’t have my accounts linked because I like to only work out of good budget and then go back and balance it once I get my bank statement. This has worked so week for me that I am debt free minus the house of course and now I don’t stress about where all my money goes. It has taught me how to live within my means and how to save for the things I really want to do. Over the years I have tried other apps and never could commit to them because they were to complicated. Good budget has changed that completely, thank you!
Super Ap for Free! 5/5
By Espanol Seeker
Love this app. Have used it for years. I like how they’re not all up in my business. I just want to track my expenses by my self-inputted budget. Doesn’t get into my checking account, or CC’s. It’s not linked to anything, doesn’t sell me anything. Love it! ✊🏻 Budget on!
Best decision 5/5
By Funding unfit
This app has saved my budgeting life. I even used it when I was unemployed and making $500 per month. It can be tailored to any salary. I live the new debt feature as well. Now my teen aged son, who is working now, is using it. He loves it as well.
Has helped us reach our budget goals! 5/5
This app has helped us immensely and is super easy to use!
A few quirks but still a great app 4/5
I wish the app would have a timeline, so that I can enter future bills and deposits and budget weekly or biweekly. But fantastic virtual envelope system has helped me to get my budget in order, and keeping me focused on what really matters! I am so happy for this app helping me to work towards financial balance. This has helped me to stay ahead and strategize how and where to spend. Thanks Goodbudget!
I highly recommend this app! 5/5
By Debbie SG
Love this app! It helps me stay on budget in real time. I also appreciate being able to keep track of purchases I make that I need to get reimbursed.
Great but some glitches 3/5
I LOVE the App. But what would make it 5 stars, and what would make a SIGNIFICANT difference in my user experience is having a "status" column in the transactions. Right now I am having to date uncleared transactions as "12/31/17" just so I can keep track of my uncleared items. Then I have to scroll over and over again for each transaction to change the date to the date it posted just so I know which transactions have cleared, also to make sure I didn't forget to log any transactions. BIG PAIN IN THE BUTT!
PLEASE PUT A "STATUS" COLUMN ON THE MOBILE APP. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!!
10/9/19 Update: I’ve used this app since it was called “EEBA”. Still no changes to check off transactions as “cleared”. My Star rating was at 4. It will continue to go down every time it asks me to update my review if it does not give us this option.
Not the same on iPhone 3/5
Had this app on an android phone and it was great. I now have an iPhone and it doesn’t show daily balance which is important to see. This change would be great to have.
Great to stay on budget!! 5/5
Two years ago we went from the all cash envelope system of Dave Ramsey to Goodbudget. Very different using the debit card for everything but it has worked well. And we are not taking around all that cash in envelopes. I consolidated categories on Goodbudget so that we use only the ten free ones on line. It has worked well so that we incur no additional expense using Goodbudget. A great way to stay on track with your budget.
Very good 5/5
Love love love
Too frustrating to Navigate 1/5
I was hoping for something simple as we started budgeting to get a handle on our spending but every time I put in a transaction, paycheck, delete or try to reshuffle the cash... or fill the envelopes...everything just goes haywire. It’s very confusing and isn’t going to work for us.
Need a options 4/5
It will be nice if you not rollovers month to month budget. Or give a option.
Best I’ve tried so far 5/5
The thing that sets goodbudget apart for my family is the ability to input data from two phones and have it sync automatically. It’s helped me get control of my finances, and is this well worth the monthly fee. I recommend looking at tutorial videos online before/during setup. I didn’t at first, and it took me way longer than it should’ve to set everything up the way I wanted. I also like the interface, visualizing where your money is going works way better for me than simply seeing the numbers.
Best that I’ve Used 5/5
I have used many budgeting apps and Goodbudget exceeds my expectations every time. I use it because it has an envelope system and does not connect directly with my online banking accounts.
I absolutely love this app. It’s EXACTLY what I needed!
Stay on Budget 5/5
Good Budget helps my husband and I stay on budget every week. We know exactly what each other bought and what we have left at the end of the week. Gives us peace of mind.
