Paste long text, go, and you cannot view the translation! 3/5
By Software Eng.
I love this app for single words or a short sentence. But if you paste in 4 or so paragraphs (about enough to fill a screen) then when you tell it to translate (go!) it will only show you the text you pasted and refuse to let you scroll down to read the translation.
Sync gmail account with google translate 3/5
If i can access google translate from any device and keep my favorite words on my all devices
It will be the best app and not only an ordinary app
It would be helpful if after highlighting text the iOS send to feature could be used. If after selecting the send to option, and Google Translate was added as an app that the copied text could be sent to then the copied text could be opened directly in Google Translate app and translated based on the last selected languages.

practice discontinuous retention 1/5
I do not know about anyone else bu the english to simplified chinese use is getting progressively worse on iphone6.. as of 3 weeks ago i am mo longer able to see my english words as dictated and the translation no longer has the option to play words in chinese. it only seems to work now if you utter 1 to 2 words then you are able to play translation. However the dictated verse is never displayed as is the pinyin is never displayed in translation like it dies on a android nexus 5 for instance.
Is the translator version from circa early 2017 available to install? if not google translate department should seriously consider making if available for users it become unusable. there are significant amount of requests to go back, forget “continuous delivery” how about
cutting us users a break and adopt a little more “discontinuous retention” Just because you CAN add a fifth tire to an automobile does not make it drive better. you dig?
App Review & Suggestion 5/5
By Billy Albornoz
You guys should make sure that you’re able to encourage google to merge all of the apps that they have to one whole thing so that no matter which google app any customers in general try to download, then they will be able to have all of google’s apps right there in case if they ever need any one of them.
Translating the language of love 5/5
By Officer L
I’m was a police officer at a major airport in the United States. Early one morning I was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle. Based on the location and information in the call notes, I suspected it to be a couple of kids “fooling around.”
I located the vehicle and my suspicion was confirmed. I could see the occupants scurry to put on clothing as I approached the drivers window. I spoke with the driver and quickly discovered he was a male, Syrian National, who had recently moved the to states and found a job as a porter at the airport. As I struggled to communicate with him, as he did not speak English, and I do not speak Syrian, I noticed his girlfriend looked suspiciously young. After separating the two, I approached the female and attempted to speak with her. I was baffled when I discovered she was a Mexican National and did not speak a word of English.
At this point I was throughly confused. What was this Syrian man doing, having a roll in the hay with this young Mexican woman, on the side of the road, at 4:30 in the morning? Luckily the answer came when my Spanish speaking backup officer arrived on scene.
According to the girl, she had missed a connecting flight the night before. She met the Syrian man in the terminal while he was working, as she was waiting overnight for her rebooked flight to leave the next morning. The Syrian man had flirted with and picked her up using the google translate app and the two had been using it to communicate during their one night stand.
I can’t imagine your development team ever dreamed that your translation app would ever help a Syrian man pull some Mexican tail. Bravo, Google. You have earned this five-star rating.
Best translation app out there 5/5
Sure, it is not perfect. But it is centuries ahead of any other translation app on the market. The picture translation and the microphone translation are excellent features

Can someone over at google please give us a technical reason why we can’t translate full websites via this disappointing app? Why?!?!? Are you simply torturing us for being Apple users? Add this stupidly basic feature already.

Please add Cantonese language in google translate. 1/5
Please add Cantonese language (粵語、jyut6 jyu5）translation as soon as possible. Thank you!
中文（Chinese, zung1 man4）
粵語（Cantonese, jyut6 jyu5）
正體字（traditional Chinese, zing3 tai2 zi6）
北方話（Mandarin, bak1 fong1 waa2）
拼音（phonetic spelling, ping3 jam1）
And also, one of the functions make people uncomfortable. Please see the situation: i'm using Google translate voice input for translating between English and Cantonese, when I speak Cantonese than Google translate will give me and English translation and speak out loud, and that is okay. However, if I speak English, then Google will give me a Chinese result and speak out loud in Mandarin. That doesn't make any sense, and makes me feel I was not being respected. So please fix it as soon as possible.
Here are two solutions: the first one, turn off the automatic speak function; or the second one, when people have selected traditional Chinese as their translated language, system will automatically speaks in Cantonese for the translation.

Translating Names 4/5
I have noticed that this app sometimes seems to have issues with trying to translate Russian, Ukrainian and Slavic female names into English too. One of my two devices is a 32 GB Wi-Fi Only White First Generation iPad mini and the other device is a 128 GB Wi-Fi Only Silver iPad Air 2...

Easy for quick usage when messaging a pal in other countries. I do wish the app could be used in iMessage though! But other than that, this is the best Translator I know of.
Good app, but bugs or improvements needed 4/5
I really like this app, but there are many bugs and difficulty when using it. For example, when using the speech function it constantly stops working, saying there is a connection error where there isn't any. Or if my phone tilts a little bit on its side, the audio will stop and I have to start it all over again. This brings me to my next point: editing text. When you try to edit the text youre translating, its difficult to click it to be able to edit it or even find the spot you want to edit since the space is so small and cluttered. A function that will be really helpful is a pause/play button when youre having the text be read allowed and when the text is being read allowed, it doesnt stop if the device tilts to one side.
Failed again 1/5
Set it for English to Chinese and it converts to English to English. My Chinese friends have the same problem in reverse.
What happened to a once great app? It used to translate both parties and you could have a full conversation.
Bring the old version back!
Great translations 5/5
By Andrea D CA
This app not only gives consistently correct translations, but it is easy to use when speaking between two people in different languages (like a true translator.) One issue I’ve had that I might like a remedy to is the need for WiFi when using the speak to translate function.
Current version default. - don’t like the change 2/5
I use google translate more than any app and I have loved it for years. The translation keeps getting better and more accurate. I give the latest revision a 2 because of a change that adds a step to translating during a conversation. The default used to be simply reversed when I selected the “translate to” language as “translate from” (ie when I was using “translate English to spanish” and selected “translate Spanish” and “to English” would automatically appear). Now I have to select both to and from each time- adding an additional step to each sentence. I don’t know why this change was made- if I needed an entirely different language I’d need to select it- it would never be “English to English” or “Spanish to Spanish”. Maybe this is an oversight but please fix it. Thanks very much and thanks for your app.

When it works, it's great; when it doesn't, it's terrible. I use this app for many languages. I don't often have problems with French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, or Korean. I have had continuous problems with Chinese, though. Sometimes, the language just disappears. I'll try to translate between Chinese and English using the microphone to speak and the Chinese option will disappear. Sometimes, it shows Chinese as an option but won't actually take spoken input. I've had to close out of the app and restart it over and over again. This is a relatively new issue, but it's very persistent and really hobbles the app. I haven't had such issues with the camera feature for Chinese, nor have I had any issues with the written Chinese. I've actually found both features very useful in my study of the Chinese language and my examination of Chinese characters that I find in books and on packaging. I'm grateful for those great features. I really hope that the audio feature for Chinese is fixed soon. I have submitted reports to Google but haven't heard anything back. Just be aware of this issue if using the app for Chinese. Double-click on the home button and swipe away the app to close it out and then restart it. That has helped me. Perhaps part of the issue is that Chinese is tonal? Other languages are not and they're much easier to understand by ear when hearing a person speak. Perhaps that extends to the difficulty of making the app work with it? I have noticed that even when it works, sometimes it's finnicky when recognizing certain tones. It's a great app, but this really needs improvement. I look forward to seeing what fixes updates bring.

If you need more than 10 seconds of dialogue recorded, forget about it with this app! I needed about 2 minuets to get the idea of an assignment, but I kept having to restart both my homework and this app’s microphone after just a few seconds of dialogue making it difficult to piece together the assignment. Also, when I went to start my first review it shut my phone down!
Nope...not happy with this app, sorry!
It keeps on crashing on me and some of the words aren’t pronounced right in English 1/5
Hello Google, I am here to tell you about some problems I have with this app! When I sometimes have words being pronounced, when it suddenly crashes and, I’ve got to restart the app. Also sometimes I have problems the English narrator saying words wrong!
Please fix it! Thanks, and sincerely me!
Too often the app doesn’t even get close to translating a foreign language. If it worked even a 50% success rate I would be happy.

Abysmal & suspiciously frightening Japanese-to-English translation 1/5
By Little Fireball
I can't help but wonder if Google is trolling with the Japanese-to-English translations (mostly from screenshots, or via the camera). As others have mentioned, the translations are completely mangled and senseless, and 99% inaccurate.
Also, some very horrifying and profane results occasionally appear -- sentences and words that I KNOW for a fact don't have anything to do with the context of the Japanese characters/text that I am trying to translate from the screenshots.
It feels extremely demonic, actually. . . I think Google is doing this on purpose. I deleted this garbage Google app because it was seriously frightening me, and is not even helpful at all.
A few examples of the frightening translations I've received:
1. When I turn on the camera function to pick a screenshot from my pictures, somehow when the app scans for Japanese text (and no text is there) it finds nonexistent "phantom words" in the background, in the objects and scenery in front of the camera lens. It randomly found and popped up with the words "CANCER" and "KILL" on my table, among other bizarre things. How can it "find" such weird and disturbing words that aren't there!?
2. A sentence from a Japanese advertisement for a children's toy (a hamster plush doll) translated to: "I will strangle my friends and colleagues."
That is downright terrifying! I have no idea why it would mistranslate a cute toy advert to something so inaccurate, psychopathic and murderous!
3. A sentence from a screenshot of a Japanese children's app game (when you feed an animal in the game) was supposed to say, "I am full. I cannot eat anymore food." But this app literally translated it to "I cannot get [bleeped] up anymore." Yes, it mistranslated it to the f-word profanity -- which, by the way, DOES NOT EVEN EXIST IN THE JAPANESE LANGUAGE!!!
This was the final straw. Deleted!
I know this might sound crazy, but I am being completely honest! I am petrified by what this app mistranslated!
What the hell, Google!? Why is this sick, warped app mistranslating Japanese text into vulgar, horrifying things!? Never using this again! 😡

Simply the best app but one more feature need to be added ! 4/5
In android phone, we can use our google account while using this app. And because of that feature it gets easy to get our saved Phrasebook even in offline mode. We can save words in Phrasebook from any device login with google account and get them in any android phone that have google translate app. This simple feature makes life easier! I would like to request the developer to add the google account merging feature in this iOS app so that we can see our saved Phrasebook. Thanks in advance :)
