If I could bring one app to a desert island... 4/5
...it would be Habitica. Ok, it would probably be Netflix or Youtube in all seriousness, but if productivity was more important than entertainment on that desert island, Habitica would be the winner!
Although the app is a little buggy sometimes, I've never had serious issues and there is usually a work- around (often as simple as waiting a few extra seconds for a screen to load).
Habitica is the only app I open every single day, and I can honestly say it's changed my life. I have a list of about twenty Dailies, several of which are set to only appear on certain days of the week, helping me stick to some sort of daily routine (I didn't regularly brush my teeth, wash my face, or put on facial cream before using Habitica, and now I do them automatically! If that makes me sound like a slob...well, I sure used to be). They serve as reminders for tasks like practicing music, writing journal entries, taking birth control, and my "Big Three"--the three goals I set each day. Homework assignments that are due at the same time each week (like reading questions) are also a great fit for Dailies as they can be set for the day of the week that the recurring task is due.
As for Habits, I try to curate that list more carefully, since the pressure of maintaining my "streak" isn't there to motivate me to complete them. I keep my list of Habits to 10 or less. They include "drink a glass of water," "write a book review on your blog," "meditate for five minutes," "exercise for fifteen minutes," and "do piano exercises."
My To-Do list, by the way, is usually filled with Challenge tasks. (I don't create many myself.)
One of my favorite features? I can "dress up" my character using the "costume" feature, and collecting, raising and displaying pets and mounts is really fun, too!
Hope this review motivates you to try Habitica and gives you some ideas for all the different ways you can incorporate it into your life :)
Best App Ever! 5/5
I’ve been using Habitica for over a year and it has become my go to for to-do lists, habit tracking, and general motivation. I can open the app quickly to check off food bought at the store, give myself a little mental reward for following up on an email, or remind myself that it’s trash day tomorrow. I’ve gotten my entire family into it and now we play as a party, congratulating one another for staying on track! The developers clearly really care about the users and are always sending out cute updates about improvements. I played for free for a year until I had gotten almost all of the rewards and now pay the small monthly subscription to unlock the bonus materials. You can definitely play for free indefinitely and have a great time.
Almost perfect 4/5
This app is amazing. I only wish for one thing. I wished you could prioritize you’re “to-do” list with colors. Like red being urgent, yellow being important but not urgent and so on
All those things I was gonna do tomorrow... 5/5
Habitica has helped me so much with procrastination, it gives you that little push to just do “it” right now! I have gained more control over my morning and nightly routines as well as begun doing ‘daily’ tasks DAILY!! Big thanks to the team and developers!
Diehard Habitican! 5/5
I love this app and have been using it for about a year. It has helped me form positive habits big and small, and get rid of some bad ones. I am constantly tweaking my Habits and Dailies to keep things challenging. I would be a different, less-driven person without Habitica! The app can be a little glitchy (it’s always improving!) and you have to find which features best address your unique circumstances through trial and error, but it’s worth it.
By Bradley A.
I logged out last Friday when my account was locked. Well, today, I got unblocked, and now the app crashes when I try to open it! It won’t even get to the login screen! I am not allowed to use Habitica chat until July 15, but I need this app to help me through the rest of my college semester, which ends in May, so now I can’t even ask for help in any guilds! Please fix this ASAP!
All the love... 5/5
I love this app. It helps me with to do listing in a way that nothing else has before. It also is pretty accessible for voiceover users, and they are willing to work to make fixes and that means a ton to me.
Amazing app! 5/5
This is the best productivity/to-do list app I've ever used! I love how it makes tracking daily activities and habits into a game. Even though I don't participate in quests, the experience and health points are hugely motivating for me. I love that there are three different modes (dailies, habits and to-dos) for tracking different types of activities, so it lends itself well to anything from getting through a daunting to-do list to making and sticking with major (or minor) lifestyle changes.
I love the new feature in a recent update that allows you to check off dailies the next morning if you forgot the night before. I forget sometimes and it's great that I can now maintain my streaks even if I spaced checking them off the day before.
Life changing 5/5
I have ADHD and this app/site helps me to actually get things done. Gamification FTW!
The best todo app 5/5
I have used so many todo apps and habit forming apps over the years from Toodledo to Todo to Coach.me and many more. However, this app replaced all of them. The gamification of getting things done works so effectively. I recommend it extremely without question.
I liked it way before it was cool 5/5
I've been using this app since 2014 or 15 (when it was still called HabitRPG) and I love it! It's so useful, the community is supportive and active and great, and the devs are constantly working on ways to improve and optimize the user experience. I've never had any issues with the app other than sometimes the updates take a few weeks to stabilize, which seems pretty reasonable for a free app, particularly when the updates themselves are generally ambitious and generally make my life easier once they do work out the bugs.
I started subscribing about a year ago because I have so much gratitude for this app and how much it's helped me. I don't make a lot of money but $30 every 6 months is doable. And it's fun to buy the in-game extras now that I've released a full stable a couple times etc.
Great game!! 5/5
Great game/to do list!! Keeps me motivated and entertained. I wish you didn’t have to subscribe to unlock all the features. Definitely would recommend to anyone. Would love if there was more equipment, and making a guild didn’t cost gems... all in all a great game though!
Most fun daily habit tracker around 5/5
While this won't take the place of my life organized for total life management it's a super engaging way to gameify your daily routines & bond with friends.
App crashing on guild chat 2/5
By M. F. Y.
Since Version 1.13, the app has been crashing during loading guild chat. Now I nearly give up entering my guild via iOS. I hope it will be fixed soon.
Great, one little issue 5/5
I love it so, so much! It’s really helpful. I stopped looking for apps like Habitica after I found it.
If it’s possible, though, can we maybe get an update or something that makes the tasks with a due date in the to-do list be in order of dates? Which one is due sooner etc. That would be so helpful.
Great except we need updates, please! 5/5
Love it and will continue to use this amazing one-of-a-kind app but please make the fixes people have suggested, particularly the scrolling error. If I cannot see my HP, why do you keep the function??? If we have Health, I would like to see it, please.
I think this app is really cool 5/5
I love how it makes real life stuff that you have to do FUN but I'm not sure if I'm even done with the tutorial LOL
Has some bugs 4/5
I really quite enjoy this app so far. I've used it in the past and I love the motivation it gives me. But using the app is kind of frustrating because it feels kind of clunky and unpolished. For instance, I am unable to scroll all the way up and see the health bar on my character -- I am autoscrolled back down and so that is constantly covered. Similarly, I am unable to see all of the very bottom habit/task/daily for similar reasons. It's frustrating because I continuously miss the very bottom thing and then forget about tasks. Also, when trying to edit a task, I am immediately editing the title of said task. This gets annoying if I'm trying to edit the attributes of a lot of tasks at once and it continues to make me tap out of editing the title. Lastly, when trying to rearrange tasks, sometimes the interface will bug out and reset my arrangement so I have to start over. If these could be fixed, I would enjoy this experience a lot more.
Amazing little app 5/5
By Súper Flan
I just began using Habitica this week, so I'm still getting to know the app.
Nevertheless, I'm amazed at how quickly it motivates you & how much more I'm getting done because of it.
It isn't perfect, yet & I still need to get used to it, but I highly recommend it.
I've used 2 or 3 other habit & task tracking apps before. This one blows them out of the water. The difference a simple little game that looks like the very 1st video game graphics of the 80s makes is incredible.
Amazing little app.
I wish you all the luck & success in the world.
Great so far 4/5
It already helps to have some kind of accountability going for me. Only problem is I cannot view the FAQ answers at all - maybe this will be fixed in another update.
Makes boring daily tasks and to-dos much more fun 5/5
I’m a SAHM and use this to track everything from doing laundry to turning in paperwork that’s due by a certain date. Getting rewarded by fun things like adorable pets and earning gold makes the tasks I hate to do (like cleaning the bathroom) not only more fun but even makes me WANT to do them.
This could help students, mom, anyone who works, or any combination of the above. Keep up the great work Habitica, I plan to subscribe when I have enough extra$. Please also consider the ability to add more tags/categories to our entries!
Simply the Best To Do App 5/5
I downloaded Habitica because the concept made me smile. I run a small studio and the idea of a RPG-themed to do list app seemed delightful. I had no idea what a positive impact Habitica would have on my life overall. I’ve never had any problem getting my work done. But chronically feeling under-paid and unrewarded? This is the only job I’ve ever wanted and it pays my bills... but that’s it. I’m not complaining! I know I’m lucky. But sometimes (like when friends are going away on vacations or seem to have money to burn) it can be hard. Habitica is my own small but meaningful (to me) way to be rewarded for the long hours. I’m not stuck at some soulless job... and now I feel like I even have some extra perks at the end of every successful day.
Love the app 3/5
Apps been great so far, even got a subscription and bought some gems, but i was in a party doing a quest and it just vanished and now the party section is glitching bad, if you click it it starts to auto scroll and doesnt stop until you close the app, fix this bug please and ill update to 5 stars.
Favorite app I've found in a while 5/5
Genuinely motivating my friends and I to accomplish our goals. Requires a little imagination, discipline, and "DIY" style rule making, but I like it that way. Great app.
This is an amazing idea! 5/5
By Mac daddy 0512
This is the only game i will tolerate on my phone because it boosts my productivity rather than impeding it. I have successfully used to to form new good habits and break bad ones. Surprisingly effective!
The downside is that there are some glitches that happen every now and again but if you log out and log back in those usually go away.
Other than that it would be nice if gems were more attainable without purchasing. Right now, it takes a miracle to procure any gems without paying a dollar. It would be nice if it was only very difficult such as being able to trade 1000 gold coins or so for a gem.
Love this app! But would change one thing. 5/5
I would really like if the App did one thing differently. Right now if I set myself a reminder to say “sweep the floors” on every Tuesday, that’s great unless something pops up and I don’t get to actually sweeping the floor that day. What I would like is an option to delay that chore or task for one day. That way I could just delay it and still be reminded to get the task done the following day. I would also not have to change the task itself so next week it will still be reminded on Tuesday when I’m actually supposed to do the sweeping. Love the app, thanks!
This is an updated review 1/5
I USED to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this app. I got several friends into it, and I use it everyday. Recently it’s been so absolutely glitchy that I can can almost not stand it, and it’s become almost literally useless. I used to say if I had to pick ONE app forever, this would be it, and if it actually worked, I’d still want it.
JUNK. WORTHLESS. SO INCREDIBLY GLITCHY IT’S NOT WORTH YOUR TIME.
And this comes from someone who absolutely loved it, and is still hoping they might figure it out and actually make it worth it. Till then, don’t waste your time.
Great app but buggy 4/5
By Yeasin I.
It’s a great app and I’ve been using it for months now. It helped get my life on track and become better organized. However, the app is buggy. There are often shows double or triple of items and pets even though the user should only have one. Another aspect is that if you check off your tasks you’ve completed yesterday it’ll sometimes reset the number. But besides that, it’s a great app. I recommend it
Too buggy 1/5
I've had this app for a long time and it never used to be this buggy. But now it's way too unusable. Until it's fixed I think I'm going to need to delete the app.
Gamify things you want done 5/5
By Zack Betz
I use the dailies to track waking up early and working out. I also use the todos. It’s nice that the app syncs with the desktop site.
Great app 3/5
Absolutely love habitica. It helps keep me on track with pretty much everything now. However, while the idea is super fun and the website really useful, the app itself is really buggy. I've even gone so far as to uninstall and reinstall the app, but the bugs are still there. The website knows I'm in a party, but the app can't seem to figure it out.
Great app but buggy AF 2/5
By Aron standley
I've used this app for years and will continue to. It is a great idea, but, it's been buggy for months despite a community of people supporting it. I hope they find a way to get it together. If there was another app that could do what this app promises, cost money but wasn't buggy, I'd switch. Until then, I'll stick around and hope for the best.
Needs some fixes 1/5
I have been using Habitica for about a month now and I do love it and the idea; however there are some problems with the system. Unfortunately, it feels slow and recently it keeps showing that I am not connected to the internet. I tried reinstalling the app and clearing my cache but now absolutely nothing is showing up. Just a red banner that says not connected to the internet cannot connect to the server. And then I try to report the issue and (as stated in a previously made review) the link does not work on IOS and safari. I don’t know what else to do. I was enjoying the game up until this point... that’s too bad.
Truly wonderful app based on a genius concept. I admit it has some minor crash bugs when you first sign up but once you’re in game the quality is phenomenal. This app will genuinely improve your life and I’m confident the app & its quality have nowhere to go but up!
My ADHD brain can get things done! 4/5
Ever since I started using this app (on recommendation from the YouTube channel “How to ADHD”, I have found that I get things done! The gamification aspect jives with keeping mundane task interesting, doubles as a habit tracker, and has “consequences” (my adorable but deadly avatar looses health!!) for missing habits.
The different guilds and ways to join a party are excellent. They have guilds for everyone and anything. There is a huge and encouraging community here. I highly recommend joining a party to encourage yourself to reach your goals.
My only quibbles is that the iOS version needs sounds, a widget, and a few tweaks with the UI in regard to finding and input. Also an easier way to invite people would be handy.
Regardless, I recommend this highly for anyone looking to get motivated.
Give Habitica a try, I’m glad I did!
Great start, but so friggin buggy 2/5
This is a pretty solid idea, only hampered by a buggy/slow responding UI with some questionable UX choices (there’s so much stuff that’s buried within menus of menus)
If they can work all that stuff out this will be a pretty solid task manager.
Update now certain menus just get sort of stuck occasionally, which is pretty irritating. Also random issues with parties disappearing.
Really cool app. It’s just too buggy at this point. I’ll keep checking back for updates I suppose.
Useful AND fun. 5/5
By Will Luckensmeyer
Habitica has replaced all of my other to-do lists, calendars, and alarms, and made it more fun and rewarding to use those tools in my daily life. The developers are my favorite, the graphics and interfaces are simple and enjoyable, and the social aspect of the app is well-implemented.
Cute and a good idea, just buggy 3/5
I love the idea and so far it's making it more fun to stay on track with my goals, but right now I'm bothered by a few bugs I've noticed. Firstly I haven't been able to report bugs from the about page, or give feedback. I haven't found a way to reset or remove counts from a task that I accidentally tapped on. And some of the FAQ pages get cut off and you can't scroll on them to see the rest, especially when you search something.
Great app; too many small bugs. 3/5
I deleted this app for a little while because of the bugs, but I keep coming back to it because it’s the most fun todo app I’ve found. Sometimes my dailies will randomly rename themselves after another tasks on my dailies list, leaving me with like 5 “Walk the Dog”s where there used to be other tasks. This is fixed by editing them but it’s annoying when it happens so often. The website works a lot better.
App is worse and worse every day. 1/5
Lowered to one star because of the amount of new bugs and old bugs still present. Update has done nothing to fix old bugs and has instead added more.
Habits jumble randomly, causing you to select incorrect habits. There’s no undo button to correct this.
I find myself having to force close the app and relaunch every single time I try to open the app, even making sure to force close after every use.
My tutorial resets and my data wipes about every 3rd opening of the app. Luckily, after I tap through the UNSKIPPABLE 8 minute tutorial, my data appears once more.
I’m reporting all my bugs in the app as the developers have requested.
Edit: lowered to 2 stars because my alarms and reminders are STILL going off around 33-48 hours too late.
I’m still keeping my review at 3 stars until I get more time to mess with the app.
It seems to be finally working so far, but I haven’t had a chance to check all the bugs.
I will say that ALL of the tutorial reset itself so I had to sit and tap the screen for about 5 mins until I could use the app again, so that was irritating.
The rearranging bug seems fixed, but the app is still extremely slow in all aspects.
This is extremely helpful at keeping me on task, but the app is often slow, buggy, and difficult to use.
I find myself closing out the app to try to fix issues more than it’s actually open.
Update to developer response:
I’ve reported at least three bugs, including one about reminder times going off three days and 9+ hours after the correct time.
This app has been a lesson in patience, but I’m not receiving app rewards for being patient with a buggy and broken app. Maybe give out character experience for having to deal with all the issues since you’re very much aware of them?
Working but confusing 3/5
The app is getting me to do good habits daily, but it is incredibly confusing to use. It’s really difficult to understand the difference between guilds, groups, parties, etc, and between challenges, quests, etc. Maybe it’s easier the longer you use it, but for a beginner it’s very confounding. Also doesn’t seem to be letting me add friends? I am seeing quests or challenges or whatever that a friend added me to, but my app says I’m the only party member (which doesn’t even make sense because I didn’t even make the challenge myself so how can I see it and be its only member?).
I need integration with the Apple Watch 4/5
I love Habitica, but I’ve stopped using it recently because I find that it’s very time consuming to check off my dailies, habits and to dos. I think I could get better usage out of Habitica if I could easily check things off from my watch.
Widget Support 5/5
App is great, helps me complete all my tasks throughout the day while giving me the satisfaction that iPhone mini games should give you!
I would love to see a widget for this app to allow you to quickly access your habits or maybe to do lists so you’re not constantly opening your phone while completing a lot of tasks at once!
Not much game to the game 3/5
I like the idea of an RPG for chores. This one seems to be lacking a clear game story and nothing is animated
To the developers:
I tried to add this to Trello but I can't figure Trello out.
Please add a feature where party members can choose to send each other automatic emails about if dailies are done.
Some people like me have a supportive network of older mentors who want to help with accountability but can't make heads or tails of the game site. So if they could opt into say a weekly email about if my daily chores are done it would help a lot thanks
I can't load any of the chatrooms and yes I have cleared the cache
Fix bugs, other than that this rocks 4/5
This app is awesome! Only thing is that some of the bugs can be frustrating. Some bugs include deleting some of your entries and not keeping some of the edits to some of the entries. Its frustrating but the concept of the app is the only thing keeping me on. Please fix soon! ✌🏼🙌🏼
Great idea, some flaws 4/5
First, the “feedback” button doesn’t seem to work on the iOS app.
Second, there needs to be an option besides done or not done, in case one’s sick or not at home. I use it to remind me about chores, and it seems silly to dock my hit points if I wasn’t even at the house that week or day to not be able to check it off, or get rewarded for a false check. Or if I use it for my daily workout, but I’m in bed with the flu, I shouldn’t be docked for being sick which prevents me from doing that.
Really like the app but 3/5
By Cocoa tycoon
I have been unable to add my friends. I send an invite and they get the email to join but when they press the link or go to their app they are unable to join. There are no notifications asking them to confirm the invite. The same happens when they try to add me as well. I get the email but have no way of accepting it on the website or in the app.
Don’t look anywhere else - HABITICA IS THE BEST!! 5/5
By Nemo's Reviews
Let me ask you a question. Would you rather be tracking your habits with no fun at all - no reward for completing your daily tasks? Or, would you rather obtain habits, daily tasks, and to-do’s but do them in the form of an RPG game, having fun while checking things off of your list? Well, the first option is every other habit tracking app in existence...and the second option is Habitica.
In Habitica, you can add habits, dailies, and to-do’s to your profile. When you complete these things, you gain coins, gems, and health. With coins and gems, you can purchase armor, weapons, pets, etc. These things will help you in quests, whether it’s a collect quest, boss quest, or anything else. You can also join a guild to quest with your best friends.
I love Habitica! I was recommended to it by a friend, and now I’m recommending it to you. It adds that little bit of fun that everyone needs in competing boring tasks that you usually procrastinate through and never get done. I’ve only been using Habitica for a few weeks, and I’ve already noticed TONS of positive differences
in my lifestyle. I realize that I am happier and more productive each day, and every night I go to bed feeling like I got a lot done that day. I definitely recommend this app to EVERYONE. I’m serious. GET HABITICA NOW!!!
Changing my life 5/5
The setup is a little confusing but the app is too good not to give 5 stars for. It has been such a game changer for goal setting & making healthy habits & I just love it so much. An amazing concept & amazing app💙
