Missing dark mode on iOS and macOS 1/5

When will you add dark mode?
Need Chat in Email and easy to create Groups 1/5
By Love the search and engage
Impossible to use without Chat in Email
Creating a room versus creating a group is super clunky
Not quite there yet 2/5
No multi account support. App may freeze at times and allow scrolling of the chat history but not allow any keyboard input. This has a long way to go. I find myself having to swipe-close the app multiple times a day.
Really would like a reply to a comment feature 4/5
Really would like a reply to a comment feature
Would also love a more robust way to see or switch into multiple accounts.
Why the hell does this app use so much space? 2/5
I like the app and the service but it’s using almost 8 GB on my phone. Why?! Clear out the document cache once in a while, that’s ridiculous!
Switch between profiles 2/5
Getting chat notifications from different profiles but there is no way to switch between profiles. This is must feature to have.
Good ideas; what about multiple accounts?! 3/5
With hangouts going away in october 2019, I tried this new chat app. It’s good. Rooms and threads work well. But I am flabbergasted that I cannot log into multiple accounts at once. What is the plan for this come October? I have to use gsuite for work, but many of my friends communicate in hangouts in my personal gmail account today
Landscape View please!!! 2/5
I use this frequently on a tablet for my work. Very difficult to type (with the screen in portrait mode) when I prop my device up to use the keyboard.
Hangout chat private 4/5
I think it’s so great y’all ofer such a site
More notification sounds please 1/5
By Hooper aka smokey
The lack of being able to pick a notification sound is literally driving me nuts.
Way to send more mixed messages about Google messaging 1/5
Hangouts, hangouts chats, google talk, alo, duo,...!! I still can’t figure which is for what, horrible consistency. I’m giving this a 1/5 because messages sent from this new app won’t get delivered to the old hangouts app or gchat on gmail, but messages from the old apps get delivered to this. Also if you’re on Android you can send text messages from the builtin messages app but you’ll receive them from the hangouts app. The only consistency with google’s messaging scheme is guaranteed inconsistency and confusion across the board, on all platforms.
Feedback suggestions 3/5
1. Better push notification handling.
When I receive a new message and I’m outside the app, I get a nice little banner notification, can see the content, and hit reply near instantly.
But, if I then switch into the app, I experience a lag of several seconds as it downloads and renders that same message. This is frustrating because I know that you have already sent me the message - why is it then slowing me down as it downloads and re-renders the same message? It would be better if I could switch to the app, and immediately see the message.
2. Ability to share content from outside the app. I’m browsing in safari, see an interesting article, and want to share with my team. There is no activity extension from google chat, so I have to copy the URL, switch to google chat (takes several seconds to load) then paste it in. Slack lets me do this directly from Safari.
Terirble, small font, ugly interface 1/5
By Fix these issues ASAP
I am not sure why developers design terrible and unfriendly interface like this. There are many texting/calling apps and Google made the worst decision to create the stupidest one.
Multiple Accounts and Font Size 2/5
Ehhhh! This app is useless if it can’t handle multiple accounts at one time. Also please enlarge font or an option to do so.
It’s like Google has never used this 1/5
Google Chat is like a program created by a machine. It is so deeply flawed in so many ways I can’t help but assume Google certainly does not use this app themselves. There’s no way their employees would put up with an app this poorly designed.
Auto Correct 5/5
This is great! I just wish it had auto correct on the desktop app!
Another failed google does not understand my needs 5/5
1) do not have phone
2) want app handouts for iPad Pro not to see iPhone version is not acceptable on iPad Pro.
3) as disable veteran your iPhone app hangouts is not acceptable to work vertically .
4) what the hell happen to google that I loved?
5) still cannot do edits or delete emails accounts no longer have. Delete apps or account functions gone, where is customer support that did have before just gone with failed apps, give me my iPad Pro hangout app and delete functions in admin settings.
6) NOT CHAT FUNCTIONS FOR A CHAT HANGOUT APP, NO PLACE TO TYPE ANYWHERE ON IPAD PRO.
7) NO GOOGLE SUPPORT AS ADVERTISED ON THIS NEW HANGOUT APP , YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING NO CHAT MODE SEE NO PLACE TO TYPE AND SEE NOT HELP FUNCTIONS AS YOU ADVERTISED TO GET HELP USING CHAT MODE HANGOUT.
Awesome for work 5/5
This chat is very helpful for my team
Missing essentials 3/5
- Gifs (2019, humans express pass words)
- Quick reactions
- Delete rooms
- Speed is lacking (takes a long time to refresh chat)
- Search is wonky (v surprising bc...Google)
Bad app bad product 1/5
This app is terrible! We switched to gchat at work and this app doesn’t follow the notification settings I have set. I have all notifications disabled for the app in iOS and I still get them all night long. Google chat is a terrible tool and the fact that they are replacing hangouts with it is soooooooooo stupid
Not ready to replace Hangouts 1/5
By Bee Nize
There are still many, many features from Hangouts missing. According to Google G Suite users will be migrated to Chat on April 16, 2019. I cannot imagine Chat will be ready for prime time by then. I just hope users in my domain will be able to keep using Hangouts otherwise they will mostly likely drop Chat and replace it by WhatsApp.
Made for businesses not the consumer 1/5
Made for business not the consumer. Not clear in downloads. Need G Suite account to use.

No google drive 1/5
Their is no google drive on this app you can only add photos on your phone seems pointless
Missing feature: Share screenshot image with Chat user 3/5
Love the product and simplicity of it. Have been using Hangouts and now switching to this Chat. I see it’s missing one of my commonly used feature where I can take screenshot in phone and quickly share with user.
Multiple accounts missing. Can't name groups. 3/5
All stuff available on the old Hangouts. Google team: do you know when those features will be introduced? Thanks!
Steadily Improving 5/5
Keeps getting better with each update.
This is like some pre-release garbage. Groups don't transition from Hangouts and the UI is sparse and too close together. It's like some kind of joke program. These people really have no clue about messaging. They just keep trying new, half-baked ideas hoping something will seem cool.
Missing option from older version it appears 4/5

This app is in alpha phase 1/5
I dont usually rate apps . But this app is way far from being ready . I'm a Google fan boy and I try to adopt the lastest of what Google has to offer in our organization. But this product was one of the worst apps I've used . The app has potential but is missing many important features and it's very frustrating trying to use the app. Google Hangouts is an old app and yet it feels more capable and functional than the chat app. I feel Google need to put more resources into this app . As for now we stuck with an old app (Google Hangouts) and an basic chat app that just frustrating. I wish Google bought WhatsApp a while back 😂. Common Google before you focus on AI try to get focus on getting the basics right .
Gsuite Admin since 2008
Not enterprise ready 1/5
This app needs a lot more to compete with the Slacks of the world. Being able to view rooms you belong to, typing indicator, better layout, etc.
No sign out 1/5
There is no way to sign out other than deleting the app
If this app would allow me to things it would be perfect! The first thing I would like to do is be able to change the sound and the volume of that sound. The second thing is I would appreciate if you give an option of breaking through do not disturb.
Group Chat are missing 3/5
They have to be recreated and is a burden and could caused problems by missing some members.
Please make them available in the search.
Too little, hopefully not too late 1/5
By Radu Grama
Hopefully Google is emabarassed by this app that lacks so much functionality compared to its competitors it should not have even been launched in this state.
Missing to many things 1/5
Missing to many features like sharing a file , multiple accounts and many integrations . You need to add speed on development , people are downloading testing and deleting it .
You had one job. 2/5
Google. You had one job. Look at what your biggest competitor in this sector (Slack) is doing. And then do that thing better.
I have no idea how this service manages to fall so short. My company recently switched to using it instead of Slack as a cost saving measure and everybody is just so miserable. Somewhere in Los Angeles, the morale of a hundred or so workers is incredibly low due to a poorly thought out user experience. Probably.
We found the “conversation” experience is confusing and nobody uses it properly, instead opting for whatever is the most recent conversation bubble. Slack supports conversations too, but does so a lot more elegantly.
The straw that broke the camel’s back for me: my colleague sent a .wav file to preview, as we often do. “UNSUPPORTED FILE TYPE” flashed on screen. WHY?!
Hangouts Chat team, please look closely at what the other options are and ask yourselves how you can meet or exceed those offerings. I look forward to a better product soon.
Needs reactions and gifs 5/5
By Smokie Sam
In 2018, instant text communication is not longer enough for a chat client. Reactions, gifs etc have now become the norm and we express ourselves using those everywhere. Not being able to use them on this chat client is a blocker.
Don’t know why 1:1 chats aren’t threaded, and the threads in the rooms need some UX improvements.
3 stars, because at least it is better than the old Hangouts.
So close, yet so far. 3/5
This app is almost there. It desperately needs to be able to manage multiple accounts, and it certainly should (go back to) a side-by-side format (I don’t know what happened; I’m 90% sure we had that before and then this last update broke it). It would be nice if individual chats could have “conversations” also to keep things nice and organized. You also MUST be able to delete/archive rooms. Oh, and we need some sort of thumbs-up or “like” feature! There have been a lot of “updates” pushed out lately, but not many changes. It would be nice to see some new features/upgrades soon!
Overall it’s good, because I think Chat was implemented pretty well. But there are 3 things that really disappoint me about the app, and that is that it is 1: connectivity is frequently dropped (both here and the web application) 2: I want a return button! 3: sometimes I don’t get notifications
Reply problems 3/5
Update for this bug: this happens only with apple keyboard attached! To unidentify this bug: close app. Connect the keyboard. Start the app. Try to reply. Won’t update and can’t exit from reply mode. Have to close app.
When you reply:
1. Doesn’t update.
2. Doesn’t exit from reply field. Have to reopen the app.
What’s the point? 1/5
Only users within your G Suite can collaborate on this. Unlike Slack’s open, invite-anyone, work with anyone benefit, this is more than a walled garden - it’s a frig’n fortress. Maybe it’s audience is intended for enterprise use? Definitely not a small business tool. Yet I’ll keep it on my iPad in hopes that one of the updates will open it up and make it actually competitive to Slack. For now, it’s even less of a novelty than Google Wave.
Not good 1/5
It won't play on my iPhone se it saysbi don't not have access to hangouts chat
No video 1/5
If it doesn’t do the video part what’s the point.
Support Needed 1/5
1) The “App Support” link is nothing more than a quick use guide which isn’t actually support. It should be some sort of chat or email to submit issues/requests to. At the very least, link to the FAQs and then at the bottom provide a real support link
2) The app needs the ability to send a message when I hit the enter key on my iPad keyboard.
iPad app still doesn’t allow for split screen 2/5
By Sam Singapore 1
I know this is just a start, but the team has to be moving faster to iterate. If you are a productivity app, and can’t split screen on the iPad, that’s a huge problem.
