It’s okay 3/5
Alot of harry potter nostalgia, but there’s alot of bugs. The further you get in the game the more bugs there are. The game will spend your energy on something you didn’t click and when you enter a place sometimes you can’t leave unless you spend energy. And you close it, and you still load in with the same bug!
Finally a good Harry Potter game is released, and they EA it all over again. This is like loot boxes 2.0. Pay for gems after 5 minutes or wait 1.2 hours for enough energy to finish a quest. I’m all for paying developers because they deserve it, but this is ridiculous. This could have been an easy five stars because it honestly is a good game. Just stop trying to bleed your customers of every dime you can. If fortnight can make a good, free-to-play game and still manage make enough money to pay devs, why can’t a Harry Potter game?? Your fan base is strong enough that we’d spend money on legitimate aesthetics while actually getting to play the game. This is lazy game making.
Okay but.... 4/5
This game is VERY expensive. You have the chance to earn coins and gems but in game hairstyles and clothes cost way too much for such a tiny selection. There isn’t a lot of diverse choices to be able to make a unique character. What little is available is not really worth it.
Would highly recommend if you love HP! 5/5
I thoroughly enjoy playing this game. I hear a lot of complaints about the energy being a waste of your time but I entirely disagree. I enjoy the fact that its something to do when you have extra time on your hands and you're not buried into your phone all day. Plus, it makes the game last longer! I love how you get to play with characters that didn't have a huge role in the main books and that you're learning a whole new story to Hogwarts. Yes, it was a little disappointing not getting sorted into a house but at least this way I knew the app wouldn't get it wrong. If you're truly a HP fan you will love this app.
Poorly done 1/5
This game is a bit stupid. You have to basically do the lessons like 3-4 times over and over and you aren’t even doing anything but tapping. There is no skill to this, no “game”. It’s just tapping and waiting to get points again. There is no time reference so is this pre or post HP/battle of hogwarts? The storyline makes no sense and doesn’t offer enough backstory or information. And the lessons don’t change. Oh and the questions? The answers are ambiguous with time reference. It could literally be any of the answers but only one is right? There’s no autonomy either other than to buy clothing which is exceptionally stupid looking.
All in all, not what I hoped for.
It’s not what you think it is(Read full review) 1/5
There are so many high ratings for this game, which absolutely astounds me because the game simply doesn’t deserve them.
The energy meter:
Fans wanted a game where they could immerse themselves. Portkey games’ response? “Go screw yourself”. That simple. That’s basically what they did when they introduced this energy meter. I knew to be hesitant when it was advertised as mobile, no mobile game is ever good. The only good mobile games are Minecraft and Telltale games, and that’s just because they’re mobile ports from either the PC or console. Anyways, you perform actions which cost energy, some can vary from 1 energy point to 5! You start out with a stock of 25 energy points, the only way to get more is by completing the flying lessons to unlock more energy which makes sense. However, it takes, guess what, energy! You can literally waste your entire meter and only unlock 2 out of the 5 stars. But how nice of Portkey to include various different click objects to fill up energy, and they reset too. Only, you can only refill up to 5 energy at a time and it takes HOURS to reset again. For a game that’s meant to immerse you, this game really wants to do the opposite. An obvious ploy for you to spend real money.
It’s interesting...but the dialogue is so bad. There’s no wit, it’s just straightforward. Once again the lie of “Telling your own story”. Funny, tel your own story but they already force you to become best friends with a student you meet at Diagon Alley, Rowan. Now, I like Rowan, but he can either make or break the story for you. If you’re in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw then it’s fine. He fits in, even though he’s a forced best friend. If you want to be in Slytherin, then he’ll break it, because there is no way in God’s green earth for it to make sense that Rowan, a FOREIGN MUGGLEBORN, to be sorted into the house of the biggest bigots possible. It totally kills the story.
Friends: You have a low variety of possible friends, and I can’t say I’m pleased with them with the exception of Penny Haywood from Hufflepuff. The reason for not being pleased is due to the first three possible friends available, Penny being one of them and Rowan being the default best friend. The only two real options are Ben, from Gryffindor and Penny, from Hufflepuff. Despite Penny being my favorite, the reason I’m disappointed is due to Portkey grabbing two characters and making their personalities complete opposites of their destined house. Ben, is a coward who you really want to yell at “Grow a backbone you pansy!” But can’t risk losing points. Whereas Penny is the thrill seeker who loves trouble. You see what I see? Yeah, two students that should be in opposite houses. Anyways, DONT SPEND COINS, unless you have an abundance because the game gives you the chance to build friendship by interacting with them...but it costs gold coins to interact and also coins to duel.
This whole game is a scam. They advertised it under one pretense and gave us something else. The story is intriguing, but the dialogue lets it down. “Build your own story” isn’t really build your own story as the game forces the same outcome for all choices, just like Telltale. Only the difference between this and Telltale is that TT doesn’t force some bs energy meter to play and has an enjoyable story with a one time fee of around $20 for all episode(depending on the game you play).
Someone told me that they should just charge $10 for this game with no hinderances to salvage some face but I disagree because I think that would still be too expensive. Minecraft Pocket Edition is currently $5 and has more RPG and enjoyability than this pile of mess they gave us.
Stuff cost too much energy
Charming and Intuitive 5/5
By Steve Eyo
The likelihood that this role as a Hogwarts student is played with such little effort can only be compared to the universal mutuality of enjoyment that has come from the franchise. A great deal of concentration and respect for source material clearly went into the development of this game. I find myself able to make personal choices that create a relationship with my character almost immediately, as well quick as to form convincing bonds with characters I meet along the way. If personality is not enough, the tasks are comprehensive and fair, and rewards far outweigh the consequences for failure. With nothing noteworthy to complain about, herein lies a must-attempt for all fans of Harry Potter.
The energy system is a pain in the butt, and the customizable options for your character are lacking. Additionally, there’s no Quidditch. I want Quidditch.
i love harry potter and to finally be able to play a game where i am apart of Hogwarts and such is so incredible. i would definitely recommend this game if you are a harry potter fan!!
Game has gone dark and will not play. 1/5
I was playing the game in the potions room and it went dark and dies not respond even when restarted.
Game has resumed but It is still a troubling situation.
Game now goes to Safari and asks if I want to continue to be
logged in via Facebook and when I acknowledge it loops me
back to the same question without letting me return to the game.
Cash Grab 1/5
By Nasty Zappa
I love Harry Potter. It is one of my favorite stories ever. I must say I have fell for their tactics and put too much money into the game. I think the story is very compelling and I wanted to know what happens. The game is so slow that in order to play through you would have to spend a ton of money. I am still going to play, but I decided not to put any more money into the game. It would be great if it wasn’t such a painfully obvious cash grab. Anyone who gave this a good rating should change it like I did.
How can i reset the game?
Small errors but LOVE! 5/5
I absolutely love this game, and hope to help improve it. I have found that its addicting, but wish it didnt take as long to regain energy. I find having to wait hours to refill after doing something for 5 minutes.
There have only been a few things that i have found that should be looked at. As with any beta app, its to be expected. Animation wise, i have seen a few times in “ Chapter 1” that the stars dont always turn gold. The progression bar will show that you are further along but the stars don’t always shine. And there was a glitch with Rowan in a convo early on but not since.
The last thing that I have noticed so far, is there are some miss spelled words. Mainly in words that have (C) or (S). They are flipped. EXAMPLE::: Offense is spelled with an s and in the game it’s spelled with a c. There are a lot of errors like that.
Overall though, I love this game and world created.
Stuck in a loop 1/5
The app wants me to sign in to Facebook but when it tries to return me to the app, it takes me back to Facebook. Tried to sign out and back in to Facebook but that didn’t work. I just want to learn more potions 😭 What’s a spell to get me out of this freaky loop?
Great game, low blow on the wallet 1/5
The stamina system is a joke, I’ve played many games on my phone and this is the only one that lets me play for 3 mins and then I have to wait an hour or so. Had fun at first but the longer the tasks the longer I have to wait, log in, wait, log in, etc. Don’t be greedy. Many people will pay for stamina or whatever but I don’t want to pay for 3 mins of gameplay. Would give it 5 starts if it weren’t for the greedy stamina strategy.
Monetized but good 3/5
It’s pretty to look at and you have all the wonderful references that you’d look for in a wizarding world, but it’s heavily monetized. Be prepared to set alarm clocks if you want to finish long lessons or sections of this game. It will try to incentivize you at every corner to spend money to buy gems or energy and it’s very shameless in how it does it. If this game gave you at least enough energy to finish a 5 star challenge with a long cool down it would be bearable. But as it stands, it will cut you just short (even with the free energy in the various sections of the castle) and you will have to set an alarm to remember to come back in 1-3 hours or forget and have to start all over. (Oh look I’m frustrated and I might have to spend some money to make sure I don’t do that again.)
So like I said. It has all the bones of a 5 star app. But it has the monetization scheme of EA Games... it’s Harry Potter... it’ll make money. Stop trying so hard. We all love Hogwarts
Can’t even play without paying 1/5
So some games to excel at them you have to pay some money. This game you can’t even finish one 2 minutes quest with full energy before you’re out. Not even worth the space it takes up, deleted.
There’s no way to change which house your in so I wanted to restart but nope apparently that’s not possible? I love the game and all just needs some improvements.
I love it!!! 5/5
By Pippi 7856021
I love this game so much and I have almost NO REASON to hate it it’s just that we have so little energy and waaaaah i can’t get to chapter 8 because i always fail Flipendo! Help? Anyone else completed it? Or maybe could you add more energy? Thank you so much I love this game it is great!!!!
My rating 4/5
I like it, it’s just that I cannot restart.
Hoping to love it... 2/5
I keep hoping I will love this game if I play longer, but unfortunately it is just so boring. All it is, is clicking through a preset story line completing “quests” (that require no thought or skill just tapping), but only as long as your energy lasts (which is about 3 minutes). I no longer even read what the characters are saying because the dialogue just repeats. The graphics are beautiful and the castle grounds are really cool. It’s just too bad you can’t explore the grounds or talk to other students or interact with this game in any way. It’s just disappointing.
Best game on the app market! ERMERGERD!!!! 😍😍 If you’re a Harry Potter fan like I am this app is a must have!
Love It 5/5
Amazing game curious as to the possibility of having a Yule Ball happening
The first time I played it it was so amazing! I can’t wait for my second year! (I get to learn animagus or transfiguration!)
By Deleting app.
I understand wanting to make money, but some people don’t have money to spend on this. Plus, what you get for what you have to pay isn’t worth it. Tapping and waiting is an awful way to play a game. Need more side quests or ability to form more relationships. This game is lacking.
Is there any update for bug fix? 4/5
It’s been two days now and I can play with the game or get any notifications! Idk what’s wrong with it. I really love the game but this issue is killing me
Money grab 1/5
Lots of reviews on energy/money grab aspect of game. I agree - Very frustrating to play unless prepared to spend $ or wait forever. After three sessions I’m tired of the grab and won’t play anymore or recommend until it’s fixed. Just not worth it.
Utterly unplayable for busy people 1/5
I'm still right at the beginning of this game, trying to learn summon broom. I may never be able to to progress past this point in the game. Why you ask? Because I have a set amount of time to complete the task- and not enough 'energy' to do it. I'm a busy person and I like to play mobile games in what little down time I get. So I am now trapped in an inescapable loop: start the task, run out of energy halfway through, wait for more, then get busy and not able to come back to the game until after the allotted time frame expires.
Extremely disappointing. I really wanted to play this game, but it looks like I simply won't be able to unless I become bedridden or retire.
Fun but you have to pay to play the game for a long time 1/5
Fun game, but characters are slightly annoying. The worst part of the game design is you run out of energy doing useless tasks like “reflecting” and “listening” and “observing”, and you can’t even complete a challenge. You either have to pay with real currency to continue playing or wait 4 minutes for one slot of energy. I’m guessing the creators of 2012 Facebook Games gave them this idea. This game may be best for people who play 10 minutes every other day, but other than that it’s a waste. Extremely disappointed.
Very fun 4/5
This game is fun but the energy and mini games are not fun to me at all and are a waste of time waiting for your energy to return just to run out again. Also can you make a way to reset your character because I want griffindor play through now but I can’t I’m stuck with Ravenclaw.
Pay More! 1/5
I set aside a couple of hours in my busy week only to find that I hit a pay wall every five minutes or so (sometimes quicker). I’m constantly waiting for my energy to renew. I know that apps have to pay for themselves somehow, but waiting 90 minutes after just a few minutes of playing is more than a little excessive. The alternative is to be rich enough to be able to spend your hard-earned muggle money on a regular basis. I made that mistake once and will not do it again. I am about ready to give up completely. This constant waiting game is no fun!
Not working anymore 3/5
It keeps having me log into Facebook and then back to the app in an endless loop. It won't let me play.
Love it but 5/5
It is awesome but can you make the waiting time for energy shorter I don’t like how it takes 4 minutes for 1 energy so could you make it 2 minutes
Great except... 4/5
The game is actually really cool and fun but the energy system is pretty bad. Basically pay or wait a long time. But I would definitely recommend it.
Not a game. Click bait. 2/5
Not a game. Click bait.
Love the story line but it’s not a game. There’s minimal involvement except waiting for more energy to click more.
I love this flipping game 5/5
It’s an amazing game for Potterheads like myself and it is just really fun to play around with
It's a amazing game! I figured out the thing, so it's working properly now! I wish the stamina wasn't so low! Overall, AMAZING!
Could’ve been something great. 2/5
If you like clicking a couple times then waiting for a few hours, this is your kind of game. Extremely repetitive. You don’t play this for gameplay. You play for the story being told. That said, I like the story and familiar faces, but it’s just too boring.
Awesome game, until.. 4/5
CASH GRAB!! This game is awesome. The storytelling is awesome, the characters are awesome, and you really get into this game and its story.. untiiiiilllll.... SURPRISE! Enjoy only being able to play for two minutes in between twenty minute breaks thanks to the greedy “stamina” bar! Literally had to stop for twenty minutes in the middle of being CHOKED BY A VINE.
Good but 5/5
I am in love with this game but I really wanted their to be a quiz for house sorting and I also think it would be really cool to be able to design your wand !!!
Ungodly loading times 2/5
The game can be grindy if you want to make sure your stats are high enough to handle dialogue challenges. This wouldn’t be a problem if the game didn’t take so obscenely long to load. Sometimes is 45 seconds to a minute. Sometimes it’s upwards to five minutes. Either can happen while attached to WiFi. Many times my phone goes back into sleep mode while it’s loading because it’s taking so long and then I have to start over again. So considering you can only really play for a few minutes at a time, the load times are usually greater than the actual playtime.
It was working just wonderful. I love it. But after closing it to wait for more energy now it keeps taking me to Facebook and when I click on the confirm button it starts to load but right back to Facebook. Please fix this issue. Once it’s fixed I’ll rate it 5*
Terrible and Cliche a waste of time 1/5
This game doesn’t deserve to be called a game. It is the pure definition of a quick money grubbing scheme. It is exactly what you expect of mobile “games” these days.
Who wants to play a game where you literally only click a few popups and then wait over an hour? The animation is ugly and the main characters are unlikeable. It is all over the top and reminds me more of the Sims than anything else. At least you can actually have fun playing the Sims. This game is just plain garbage.
Weird Facebook connection 4/5
I really like this game, however now I can't play because the app wants me to click this "continue" with Facebook button. Then it tries to send me back to the app, but it just makes me say "continue" again. Even if I say "cancel" it makes me do it again. I've tried removing the app from my Facebook account, but it still won't let me play! Please fix this!
Thank the lord 5/5
By antsy pants wont play
Energy Points 1/5
It takes way to long to get energy points!
Turn your pockets inside out 2/5
By Fun Gurllll
It’s very clear that this app was developed to entice the user to spend real money rapidly.
The idea behind the game is genius—your very own Hogwarts experience; however, you actually spend very little time playing the game and most of your time waiting for your energy to replenish to complete even the most minute tasks.
I’m uninstalling, as this has been the most evident money-grab I’ve ever seen on the App Store. Totally disappointed.
I love this game.
What’s with this energy system... 2/5
By Mia n greene
I had decided to stop playing it one day and never played it again. It’s clear the issues aren’t going to get fixed and you can only play for five minutes at a time.
I have almost no complaints besides the energy system. I know a big reason why great games like this fail is they force the customer into making purchases to play the game normally or they make the normal earning system (earning gems, energy and intelligence)way too low of a pay off. People shouldn’t get halfway through a section of the story and have to quit because a full energy bar doesn’t even take them through the chapter. I get the need for an incentive for customers to make in app purchases but they can come up with a more creative way. On top of this if I get off of the game and go back to it, I realize I only have a certain time limit I can be away from the game before it starts the chapter over again?? That’s awful... I can’t sit and play the game but I can’t be gone too long either ?? WTH. Extra items that you don’t need for the story line that can be bought or alternatively earned can be used to fund the app.
