IOS Failure 1/5
So I love this app on Android, and I use it daily. However, speed review hasn't worked for TWO YEARS in IOS. What terrible customer service. People have been reporting this issue for ages. And they wanted to split up the community between basic languages and everything else. Fools. If I have to use more than one app to do the same thing I will use a different one.
tbh this app actually helps me learn the language i wanna learn its AMAZING
Great concept/Can’t access lessons 2/5
During the introductory lesson, it truly seemed like a great app to learn a new language with. The clips of the native language speakers are awesome. So I bought a subscription to continue learning Japanese. After the purchase I found out that there were only a hand full of lessons that I could access after the first lesson. The app suggested deleting the app, rebooting my device, and re-download the app. That didn’t change anything, and I tried it on multiple devices. It also claimed I had a bad connection and to try using wi-fi to download. Tried downloading lessons on wi-fi and after 30mins the loading icon didn’t move. All of my other apps work fine. Including gaming apps that use a lot of data. My iOS is current. So I don’t understand it. It’s very annoying. Now I have a years worth of a useless subscription.
Memrise is great 5/5
By Aryela W
I absolutely love memrise because I just got it today and I already learned over 40 words
My most preferred app to learn Japanese. 5/5
It’s not perfect but if you are consistent it will teach you some useful and rock solid stuff. It is a great way to start learning a language.
I had this app for a very long time! I studied Italian with it and made it extremely far, I decided to redownload and found that to get past the first lesson now you must pay for the membership? Absurd. The app was much better before you changed it and I actually considered buying the membership. Now that I’m practically forced to do so, I’m thinking of finding a new app that is more reasonable. Before you only had to pay for certain features and now you have to pay for everything but the first lesson which is honestly ridiculous. You shouldn’t have to pay $30 a month for something that used to be appealing because of the ease of use. It was refreshing to know that I could learn without having to pay an absurd amount of money to do so. Lovingly, a 17 year old who is now fluent in Italian but can’t learn Arabic past one lesson. What good that’ll do me.
Native Keyboard Issues 2/5
Edit: Fixed in 3.1.10.
(Update in 26 Oct 2019 for v3.1.6): The native keyboard once again has a bug. I have to click on the text input to focus and get the native keyboard to appear each time. If not, it defaults to the in-app keyboard. I have tried to toggle the keyboards but the behaviour is still the same. This is very frustrating.
Please do more testing with the native keyboard - my original review was also about a bug related to the native keyboard. It seems that there's not enough QA testing for these features, resulting in regression bugs. For those who prefer a normal keyboard, both for ease of typing and to avoid getting hints from the letters provided by the in-app keyboard, this is an important feature.
Original review (29 Dec 2018): Textbox gone in latest update
I didn’t realise auto update was turned on for my new phone and it updated Memrise to the latest version. Which would be fine, if not for the fact that the textbox is completely covered when you use the native keyboard to key in answers. I always prefer to use the native keyboard so the app is now pretty unusable for me. If you use their in-app keyboard the next button also is cut off at the bottom of the screen on my phone. I appreciate the new look-and-feel, but not when it breaks something that worked previously.
Zero Instruction 1/5
By C Cougar
After 6 months using this app, I realized that I learned almost nothing. Sure, you will memorize a bunch of words, but without any instruction whatsoever, you will not know how to speak the language or understand it.
Wanted feature 4/5

I wish I could repeat recent sections on demand.
It’s helps you learn faster every week I learn 10 words in a day and you learn sentences easier
Great tool 5/5
Excellent & easy tool to learn Spanish. Thanks
I love this! 5/5

I love this! I am taking French next year and this is a good head start!
Fun, logical and education with variety
I’m already learning words through a korean school but I normally write out the words constantly, so I’m already good at writing in Hangul. Speaking korean? Not confident but a friend suggested this app and it’s awesome. Just wish I could afford it but the free way is great practice in teaching me pronunciation.
If you’re going to add pronunciation recognition 1/5
Make sure it’s perfect first. I have pronounced bread in Portuguese 10 times correctly into my microphone and Memrise still says it’s wrong.
My mother tongue is Persian. I can’t use this app to learn English
If you want to memorize vocabularies, you can not find a better app than this.
Thank you so much
Don’t want inside keyboard 3/5
With the new update I have to switch to my own keyboard for each word I need to type. That’s really annoying. Few more days and I’ll just stop using the app, that’s how annoying it is. And I don’t want to use the apps keyboard cause it’s too easy
Love this app! It makes it easy to learn and is very repetitive to help retain information.
Was even better before 1/5
By Mick Rom
This app used to be awesome and have quality content! Now you have to pay for most of it or put up with the annoying pop-up ads. I’m sure this is on purpose, but now I’m turned off from using the app or recommending it others. Memrise, you were awesome until you started wanting to eat up all my pocket change! For quality language material, there’s better resources on YouTube or podcasts
Makes learning fun! 5/5
I’ve only been using it for a couple weeks and have learned quite a bit from the language I’m studying. This apps features with correct pronunciations via actual speakers of the language helps me understand the language quite a lot and prepares me for the use of it. I love it! Because it actually helps me remember what each word means in language. Great app!

Use this app it’s awesome!
Really good!!!! 5/5
By Kay Lee1
It helps a lot I’ve seen progress with myself learning the language I chose. The only thing I could say bad about this is that the pronunciation section takes a long time to give results but I mean that’s the least of a problem to me. But I do enjoy the app 100%.
Pronunciation exercises no longer progress 3/5
There seems to be a recent regression for the French courses where each course level gives you the same set of words over and over when practicing pronunciation instead of continuing to give new words to review. This happens regardless of whether you manually select “Pronunciation” as an activity or it suggests it as the next one.
Great for Chinese - compliments Duolingo perfectly 5/5
I was using this app every day for Chinese when I wrote my original review. I finished the level one course in Chinese and began working on level two. I’ve also used it to brush up other languages. I was annoyed when the mascot, Ziggy, left because he always brightened my lesson. I’ll add to my review now:
I bought a lifetime subscription at $100 I think it was, and it was worth it to avoid monthly fees. I’m still glad I subscribed.
I still use Memrise but not as much as Duolingo these days. I’ve used both apps extensively for my Chinese. I’ve learned that one alone does not work; both must be used, in addition to other methods (like character writing practice and classes). Regardless, Memrise was best as a beginner in Chinese. I like how it stresses the tones (Chinese is a tonal language and tones are VERY important) and teaches pinyin first. DuoLingo, on the other hand, goes straight into characters. Both pinyin and characters are important, so the apps compliment each other perfectly. I also like the way Memrise teaches phrases. It teaches you the individual words then teaches you phrases and how to pronounce them. I have used the phrases I learned from it when talking to native Chinese speakers and they were impressed at my pronunciation, which I got right thanks to my own emrise.
My only complaint is that the pinyin spellings vary in spacing. Sometimes if I omit a space or add a space my answer is marked wrong, and the spacing should not matter. I’ve seen other reviewers point this out but so far it has not been changed in the app. It’s the one thing I think thr developers should fix.
Chinese is a difficult language to learn and Memrise helps make it easier. I recommend this app to other students just starting out in chinese. Stick with it!
Memrise is one of the better learning apps 5/5
They use videos native speakers throughout learning. I use this and duolingo to learn Japanese but I think this is the better of the two. It feels less like work and they mix up the activities. I still recommend that anyone trying to learn a language uses classroom learning techniques and only use this for supplemental purposes though.
I love this app it’s Beautiful:>
its a great app for learning danish, enjoy it
Ideas of development 5/5
How do I speak to the developer? I have an idea for the app that would help some users like me.
Love it 5/5
Much better now that it stopped switching from dark to day mode!
Good but not great 4/5
By Aapoh dzheyms
Only problem I have is that it doesn’t make sure you know the word you spell or get wrong, but instead just repeats the question in a simpler way and doesn’t bring it up again.
very very goood apps 5/5

Biblical Greek 5/5
Using it for Greek vocabulary - works great!
Good, but needs fixing 4/5
After I finished my first part of learning, I tried to go onto the second. Every time I tried, it said offline mode. I have WiFi, and it says the only way to get learning is get a membership. Help anyone?
Best tool for language learning out there 5/5
I cannot tell you how pleased I am with this app. As someone who has strayed away from several years of learning Japanese this app as helped me get my fluency back and better than ever. I wish I had this when I first started learning. Memberships is so worth it if you’re willing to make a commitment of at least once a week.
However this isn’t a supplement for conversation learning, I highly recommend this as a tool to help you with your conversational skills along with practicing with other speakers.
Although I do wish there was options other than languages but I know they’re working on it so I won’t complain.
On a final note if you see this Memrise please add ASL that would be amazing!
Very good app 5/5
I’ve only been using it for one day and I have already learned 15 words in German!
It really helped! 5/5
Doesn’t support Sign In with Apple 1/5
Unfortunately this app does not yet support Sign In with Apple.
What I’m Looking For 4/5
This app teaches European Portuguese. I appreciate being able to hear a variety of fluent voices and having letters with accents provided. I’m not sure if my pronunciation will be tested at some point. I may need to repeat after the audio to learn that part.
I loved it 5/5
Bring back the old version 1/5

برنامج مثالي💯❣️ 5/5
By ساره ب
هذا البرنامج رائع جداً، استخدمه في تعلم اللغة الايطالية العامية، جداً مفيد ولطيف، يقوم البرنامج بتذكيرك لمراجعة الكلمات والجمل، وتسمعها من اهلها الاصلين ليست بطريقة آلية، وتكتبها بصورة دورية حتى تحفظها.
Better than DuoLingo 5/5
I’ve spent two years studying Spanish on Duolingo and have been increasingly frustrated by it for a number of reasons but the one that made me switch to Memrise was so that I could learn European Spanish. In two days in Memrise I have gained more fluency that two years on Duolingo. Plus I really resonate to their style of video of actual (European) Spanish people speaking. For those that argue that there’s no difference try learning English in America and then go to England.
Characters without their pinyin!!!! 2/5
I would recommend they make it easier instead of putting the meaning of charcters in the native language they put their pinyins instead...no one uses the direct meaning of characters to make words
It’s good I recommend it.
