It didnt work and I had to go to the activity monitor to force quit so I could delete
I absolutly hate this. I want to see all my emails outside of the ones I have going directly to my spam folder and now I have to go to 18 different locations to find everything I am looking for. It takes me so much longer to get rid of the emails I dont want and could not be more frustrated with the auto hide that this new system has created. I absolutley hate this and find is so very frustrating just checking my emails on my computer.
WARNING: it locks up and CPU goes to +100% 1/5
This app is fine as long as you don’t interact with it. Occasionally, with no clear indication, the app will get stuck and your CPU usage will jump to +100%. Then all you can do is go to Activity Monitor is forceably killl it.
I would not recommend the current version of this app.
Very useful... 5/5
By Danny Carlton
I installed the free version and found it useful, so I decided to go ahead and pay to have the ads removed. Nice.
Don’t download this app! 1/5
By Love whiches
Does not allow more than one account at a time! And is only free for 7 days. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!
Mail App 5/5
This app is very useful. It is free, quick, simple to set up, and it is compatible with my school gmail unlike the native Apple Mail app. Well done.
review for mailtab for gmail 4/5
By rainbow poop1
mailtab for gmail is really helpfull. i love it so much.
Exactly what I was looking for 5/5
I was looking for a simple but functional email alert to save time and attention. I have tried several different apps, but for me, this one is the best. It is the least intrusive one. You receive timely notifications without being distracted by the content. The window of the app is similar to the interface of your phone. You can delete, search, and compose emails without opening the web page. It has definitely helped me to feel less overwhelmed by emails, and it has improved my productivity.
The only shortcoming is the lack of the “attachment" function. Hopefully, this can be addressed in a future version.
Overall, good design.
Good Not Great 4/5
It is great to have mail up and out of the way. Ultimately however this app just manages a browser window in a clever way, so if you are looking for something slicker than the web interface, this is not it.
There are a couple of things that still need polish:
* Mail does not refresh well. When I see something come in on my phone, I click on the app in my Laptop and often have to manually refresh. Not a deal breaker by any stretch, but mildly annoying.
* I cannot attach a file by draga and drop
* I cannot style the message (i.e. use bold face, etc) without going to the “desktop” presentation.
* When I change to the desktop presentation while authoring (e.g. I realize I want to attach something) I loose the message I was in the middle of authoring. Same is true moving to mobile presentation from desktop.
So this is a good app for convenience, but at the moment when you need to do any more than a quick message, it can be a bit maddening to have to open a browser window to do more.
Convenient and out-of-the-way access to my gmail 5/5
By SuperMike W
I’ve been using the app for about a week now. It’s a great way to keep track of emails as they arrive, and to do quick reads and quick replies. Think of it as putting the iPhone mail app in your Mac menu bar, and you should have about the right expectations for this app. This is not a replacement for a webmail interface or a full-featured mail app, but rather a supplement. It is very limited in what it does, but I love having the functionality that this app provides.

DO NOT PURCHASE!!! right after I purchased this app my gmail got hacked by an andriod phone do not purchase!!!!
Massive memory leaks 3/5
Prepare for your Mac’s fan to start spinning up because of this app. It’s a useful app, and I paid for the full version, but this issue definitely needs to be addressed. Otherwise you have to quit the app after you check mail, which defeats the purpose of a background app.
okay for casual use 3/5
I’m not thrilled with the stock mail app on the macbook air (you do’t need to save 10,000 drafts every time I write an email) so I thought I’d try this out. It works like a phone app but on your desktop. It’s nice that it’s out of the way, especially if you are using Outlook on your machine for work, etc as your primary email. But if you have to actually craft a thoughtful or professional email, it’s not really designed for that.
By Ornery Butterfly
Good Email app, very useful and happy that I downloaded it for my Mac book air.
works well 4/5
app works well, occassional message pops up for other services but too be expected for free, would recommend.
Simple, functional Time saver 5/5
I love this app. I use it ever day MANY times a day. It works well. No separate program to launch. Once it’s set up which consists of installing it and logging into Gmail, all you do is click the mail icon in the menu bar for a pop up window. When youre done, click some where else on your desktop and it’s gone. I love it. I’ve only had a one issue over the years and when I emailed Fiplab, they emailed me back and resolved the issue with an update. (I couldnt paste url’s copied from Chrome browser. Now it works). Thats great service! They obviously care about the app and want it to work properly. I reccomend it 100%
So far so good 5/5
I really love this app, simple but very usefu. I can not leave without it!
Great App: Very Helpful, Saves Time... 5/5
Very helpful app. Saves time not having to open a browser to access Gmail.
*** Note to developer ***
I would GLADLY pay extra, upgrade, etc. --> IF there was an option to "Check All" or "Select All".
That would make it SOOOO much easier to clean out my inbox. There is an iPhone app that has that built in. They are using the mobile verion of Gmail, just like you are, so I know it can be done. Their app is called iMailG.
Thanks for a great app.
** Update: 5-17-16:
I still use this app every day. I still love it. I couldn’t live without it. Well, I probably could live, it would just be more inconvenient. Having to open Gmail in a browser takes so long, it is a huge waste of time. This saves so much time, I really appreciate it. I rarely write any reviews, but this one is worth it.
i gave this app 5 stars because it deserves it, this saves me so much time i dont know what i’d do without it….keep up the great work…well worth the investment..
Only One Account Option 1/5
By General Potz
App only allows you to add one account. Worthless if you need access to multiple email accounts..
Causes Chrome GMail to logout every 60 seconds 1/5
Immediately after installing MailTab, the GMail tabs that I had open in Chrome began to sign out every 60 seconds. Google searching the problem, this is apparently a known issue with MailTab, and other FIPLAB products that result from the way that they do their advertisements.
It does what is supposed too.. 3/5
Its a little intrusive with the ads and asking for feedback at start up. Just my 2 cents
works ok no folders 3/5
By aka LGgeek
works ok, lacks folder access
attach a file? 2/5
Can’t find the way to attach a file to the email. Is it obsolete to ask a mailing app this?
Good, but no options to edit fonts 4/5
I really, really like the idea of this app. It’s worked perfectly for me until I was trying to write the title of a book in the email and realized you can’t italicize or bold any fonts.
It’s OK until you want to print. 3/5
It’s good for reading, writing, sorting, etc but when you need to print you either install Chrome or go to the web and print from there. You should come up with a way to easily print without having to install another browser.
Panel App 2/5
I wouldn’t even think this would be handy on a mobile phone.
It’s very basic and not intuitive at all. But, I guess that’s the free part.
What disappointed me more was the add-on’s didn’t even make sense for me.
Since I only use Gmail, it make sense to use the browser or the email client included in the mac os.
Glad it’s free 4/5
I love how this enables me to manage my email quickly and easily from the toolbar, exactly what I was looking for. I would give it 5 stars if the popover didn’t show up in the wrong place (left side of the screen instead of underneath the icon in the toolbar), it’s quite annoying!
Exactly what I need! 5/5
Lightweight, and notifications come up as expected. Very little need to open up a resource hogging gmail window or the Mail program. Thanks!
Non-standard UI and just plain annoying 2/5
If you’re gonna make an app like this which is persistent, it should behave according to Apple’s recommended HCI guidelines. This thing does not. For example, you can’t drag it off the menu bar to persist as a window on the desktop and as a menu-bar window, it supersedes all other apps open and active (a big pain in the a). The makers needed to go look at the product design of those who are more experienced at this: go look at Adobe and how they handle their little persistent in the menu bar app. Revamp accordingly. Lastly, critical top level functions like a f*ng CLOSE box are way too subtle and are in the last area of the window where users expect such controls to be. This thing was just not designed by pros - functionality is fine but as most of us know by now, functionality is made and broken by amateur, subjective, and unprofessional UI decisions.
Used to be good…. 2/5
Used to be very good, providing a quick way to check email. Now unstable and keeps crashing. I’m done with it.
Its VERY HELPFUL. it lets me know when i get new mail and/or important things that happen.
I like it very much, and I will keep on useing this useful app for a long time. 😊
Good basic app 4/5
Just needed an app to do exactly what this one does. So I´m pleased!!!
And it’s free… Thanks!!!
4 star for billing me twice. 4/5
Don’t upgrade the app from the free version. If you want to buy the app, delete the free version and buy the pro version. I was billed twice when i tried to download the pro version directly.
I first bought from an inapp purchase (from the free app). Then later i had to delete the app and reinstall it. When i downloaded from pro version directly, I was billed again.
This could be a bug from apple. (I might be wrong)
Over all this app is good.
Useless chaotic UI is nearly featureless ;( 2/5
Ok, to be honest, I do like this ‘concept’ , and removing certain classes of basically ‘junk’ so-called social email is not going to my inbox (regular everyday email inbox, that is…)
However, this app has very little user-friendly interactions. In particular, there is apparently no way to mark all, or select groups of emails to process, move, delete, etc…
I need to be able to come on, do a quick perusal, and then purge them or whatever…at this point I dont even hardly check it, because it frustrates everytime when I can’t dump them…I will be uninstalling it, if I can figure how to do so…
any suggestion for thorough uninstall? Where are these emails being stored?
Went from 5 stars to zero real quick 1/5
This is the last time I will download anything from this company. I *paid for the ad-free version*, but in the latest update, I was tricked into submitting my email address for some mailing list. The logo at the top of the page was for Mailtab, so when there was an email entry box I naturally assumed it was to re-enter my email address for the app. Not so! I dont know what sort of spam they plan to send me but I wont give them another dime. When I pay more for an ad-free version, I expect to get what I pay for.
Does everything I wanted it to do 5/5
By Oklahoma City Eddie
I was wanting an audio notification when I received an email. Works great. I have a choice of sounds I wanted. Everything I was looking for plus more.
Not Bad 4/5
The Mailtab was pretty great. If it removed that “1" from the app logo, it might be less confusing.
Amazing, still. :)
Fantastic app However... 4/5
Great app, seems to work and flow well, however, I use multiple Gmail accounts and would really enjoy the ease of being able to view all of my inboxes at the same time. Thanks!
A useful app lessened by constant updates with constant trying to upsell 3/5
By Teacher Jack
This app is very useful. It unobtrusively sits in your menu bar where you can click it to try to free up you memory. Of course it also shows you your current memory usage, and you can set it to automatically try to clear the memory if you get under a certain threshold of available RAM.
That said, the app seems to be updated almost weekly—and it appears that it is mostly for the purpose of having the post-re-installation pop-up window that keeps asking you to buy their other products.
It’s a a great, useful little app that is degraded by it’s ham-fisted repeated attempts to “upsell” customers to buy their other wares.
Good programming, annoying marketing decisions.
Used to be nice... 2/5
I used to really like this app… but it is almost useless now because whenever I type something, it gets a few words out and loses focus from the typing window. It’s annoying… I have to type a few words, click the window again, type a few more.
Used to be good, but I think I am going ot look for something else...
Has become junk 2/5
I loved this app until about 6 months ago. Now all is does is does is kick me off when I’m trying to respond to an email. I can’t even get 4 or 5 words in and I notice I’m no lomger typing in the app. Too bad, I used this all the time for work. NO MORE though!!!!
Muito bom o programa , bonito , leve e rápido. Uma pequena propaganda , mas nada que mate o programa. Recomendo.
doesn’t work 1/5
It was great, but something happened with the recent update where it won’t even load anymore.
Beware of the constant pestering to buy add ons 2/5
By steve l miller
I really do like the purpose of this program and it’s overall function to show incoming gmail but the constant pop ups to buy, buy, buy get old fast. I even went ahead and bought yhe remove adds feature but that did not stop the continued pop ups to buy the other items which I have no interest in. If the continued pestering does not stop soon I will have to remove this from my system which would be a real shame since it is the best gmail checker I have tried. I just can’t deal with the annoyances.
Crashes on startup 1/5
This used to work perfectly. With the latest update it crashes immediately on startup on 10.9. Tried uninstall/reinstall with no luck.
mostly works fine but this update broke something 3/5
By Isolated thunderstorm trooper
fixing that would return my rating to 5 star status
Needs improvement 4/5
By TIM 7EVN
When logged in to few accounts would be cool to choose which ones I want to be notifed from or maybe from all when emails come in
Was working great, now problems 2/5
was working pretty well, until recently, when I try to write a reply in this app, it will sometimes delete the draft, with an error pop up saying something about Java update, do i want to save changes,
also, second problem is that when i’m typing, i’ll suddenly lose the ability to type, and have to reclick on the page in order to keep typing. I didn’t click my mouse pad to change the page...
