Great free app; pro membership is a ripoff 3/5
By Losing eggs
I loved Memrise’s free app. So much so that I purchased a pro membership for the year. For someone who almost never pays for apps, it was a significant investment. One I thought I’d be happy to make to support the app. However many of the features advertised are either not available for the languages I’m learning or really ineffective. It was a complete waste of money and a disappointing experience. Stick with the free version.
Updates Take Away Features 2/5
I loved this App when it first came out! I used it for ASL and Italian. Now I can’t even find the ASL option anywhere. I understand that they need money to invest in an App so I moved on and just stuck with Italian. I was using the app just yesterday and I could type the word(s) for correct spelling and to see if I knew the word(s) myself. Today when I logged in, it no longer allows me to type the words and I am only allowed to select from the 4 or so options provided. Please stop taking away features. I was highly considering getting the Pro Version because I love learning languages but I’m not sure I want to.
Enjoying Japanese on Memrise 5/5
EDIT: where did the user-created courses go?! That was one of the best parts of Memrise! Please bring those back to available courses.
I have been using the app for a few months now learning Japanese (pretty much from scratch). It is working out very well - the speed of learning is great, and I really like the different features. And free!
Was a delight of an app but no Hebrew 3/5
Used it for several languages but uninstalled because they have no Hebrew.
Great app! 5/5
Memrise is helping me immensely get through school and pass my classes thanks memrise
Very good 5/5
this has helped me learn ten new words in just five minutes. This app is amazing and I think you should get it. Gracias to the app maker
This app is excellent.i really learned a lot of words from this app
CANT GET PAST LAUNCHPAD- BAD APP 1/5
By PaJana Party
I /was/ super impressed with this app, as I am using it to learn Korean. But no matter how much I learn/review/practice it will not let me progress to the next level after launchpad. Thinking this was a bug, I tried different Spanish levels. Same problem there. I looked up this issue online and Memrise is silent on the issue. It’s their way of pushing their expensive $60 subscription service from what it seems. Which, when they promise free language learning, goes against Apple’s policies. So while it seems like it has potential to be a good app, it only is a failed promise for language learners. Not cool Memrise, not cool.
It’s great! 4/5
It’s great so far(probably because I have a LOT of prior knowledge of the language I’m doing and I chose easy but I thought “hey it’s been awhile since I’ve done it so let’s got for easy”)I love it but I don’t want to pay for it. I wanna learn this for free. Does that make me stingy? Probably. Now hopefully this can teach me EVERYTHING I need to know. Keep it up!
Really Sick 5/5
My Moms dude of the family is Polish so I’m trying to learn so extra words here and there and this app really helps

It’s a fun learning app and you can understand different languages in a fun way.

The best application
Videos have sound. Turning audio off should turn off videos, too. 1/5
This is still a bug, oh powers that be at Memrise. Your app still functions this way, despite numerous updates and bug fixes since I last posted this review and reported this as a bug.
Videos still have sound. If I have sound turned off, YOU SHOULDN'T PLAY VIDEO EITHER.
This is a bug.
I have audio and audio tests turned off. Nevertheless, in courses where videos are available, those videos still play. Never mind that audio is off - and for a reason - the video still plays and you still have to get the word right, even though you have to have sound to hear the word.
Developers and powers that be at Memrise, here’s a tip. Those videos have sound. If I have audio turned off, you shouldn’t be serving me content that requires the use of audio. This is a fairly simple concept I would think.
I have reconciled myself to the worst design you guys could have created. I have no choice but to live with that, as awful as it is. But please, use some common sense.
I absolutely love this app! 5/5
This app defiantly helps you learn more of a language for free! It’s fun to learn and to memorize basic terms. This app will definitely help with my communication skills
Great for students. 4/5
Memrise is basically how I’ve been surviving any class thats memory intensive. Like history for memorizing dates, and especially languages. I love the app and concept, I’ve been using it for years. Only reason why I won’t give it five stars is because it COULD be better, like having MORE study options, games, and tests. Also, there’s this one particularly annoying bug where I’ll update a course that I’ve created on the computer and the app itself won’t update.....ever... so that’s kind of problematic. Great app though nonetheless.
It is VERY helpful!! 5/5
I’ve only been on it for like 10 minutes and I learned so many things
not what I wanted 1/5
Don’t click on a link that says something about a 20% discount thinking you will be viewing an explanation. In my case it just automatically charged my card.....and without the discount. I have written to them 2x without a reply so far. I was searching for an app that might work for both me and my friend who had a stroke.
Mistakes can happen but this is pretty obnoxious and not even replying seems pretty cold to me.
Tried to contact them again with no results.
memrise you should fix the button that automatically signs you up without any explanation or discount at all.
If I could give you no stars at all I would.
My boyfriend’s family speaks Bosnian and this is one of the only free apps that will help me learn it so easily! I love the setup and methodology behind this style of learning - type, listen, choosing. But please include more audio for each level so I can hear the pronunciation more. :)
Best app ever 5/5
I want to learn all kinds of languages and because of this app I can do it with ease! I give this app five stars!👍🏼❗️
Effective, but slow 2/5
The lack of an ability to test out is rather annoying, so you’re stuck at the beginning regardless of what skill you may have, and the fact that most lessons must be paid for instead of free is an instant turn-off.
It's good but you have to pay around $20 for more advanced stuff. If you are only looking for the basics then this app is good. If you don't feel like paying then I suggest another app.
But it should cost half the price, I mean it's learning and if you really wanted, you could just learn online(safari/browser)
Great app 4/5
This is a great app but I would like a little less push to get you to buy premium. Also the menu is hard to navigate but in all good app
THE LITERAL BEST 5/5
Geodmorgen every one lets tack a mpmommt to thank Memrise such an amazing app. Pro0st!
The Listening Questions. 4/5
By Karlee G.
On the app, the listening questions seem to have the same answers for all 3 options. It isnt like that on the website.
My only compliant. Its a really good app and website. You dont even NEED the premium to learn pretty quickly. Very fun, very cute app. ❤️
Easy and clear 4/5
I just started using Memrise for the 2nd time, it's easy and clear and the audio and visual cues are both really helpful. I'm hoping to learn enough to get by on a trip to Italy in a few months.
By f me daddy
Great already know French
Not as good as previous versions 3/5
Ive been using this for quite some time to learn German. When I first downloaded and began using it, I really loved the repetition for learning new words. Lately; however, I’ve noticed an issue when it displays the three sound icons and you listen to the native speaker and select the correct response but Memrise is saying it’s wrong. I know der Apfel is “the apple” and die Äpfel is “the apples”, yet on something as simple as this Memrise insists my answer is wrong. It’s so bad that no matter which of the three you select, it counts it as incorrect. This is very annoying and wastes time in the lesson.
My issue is the same as mentioned by user Ashram12 in their February review.
Please fix this.
By learner of language
It help me learn other languages a lot quicker then I expect!
Bait and switch 1/5
No free. I don’t mind paying, just be up front about it. Everything is locked after lesson one. Sick of the deception!
Really great 5/5
Has that bottom bar to skip past their ads and prompts to go pro.
Two thumbs up!
Everything Locked Bug 1/5
Everything beyond Level 1 courses are totally locked down under a bug that after some quick googling has been around for ages that the developer hasn’t gotten around to fixing. I can access courses beyond level one on Android or a web browser but not my iOS device. Wanted to use Memrise as a review app but it’s totally useless in it’s current form.
The ‘casual’ nature of the developer’s change log, knowledge center and general write-ups is also equally infuriating and less-than-helpful in almost all my circumstances.
Great for my students but one main problem 3/5
By Can I get a What what?
I use this for vocab learning and review for students and myself. I like making my own courses. I hate though that memrise doesn’t let you find these courses with your smartphone. It’s a major problem. You have to log on website. Otherwise you only find memrise official courses. And they don’t even let you complete them! They just want you to pay all the time!
Great, but one bug that hasn’t been fixed yet. 4/5
Great app, I have learned a lot from it (I am learning German), but one of the courses I am doing has a bug in it (A1 German). On most lessons (learn or review) it will give you three choices that are the same and if you pick any of them, most of the time it counts it as wrong and goes into your difficult words. Otherwise the app is great, and I like learning from it. If you could just fix that bug then I would rate it five stars because it is a great app.
I LOVE IT 5/5

This app is helping me so much I completely enjoy it, WOW.
A good app except to do most things you need to pay for a subscriprion 😒

This has helped me learn french so well I can now spell so many words in french and I'm really good at it. I learned 20 new words today and I already memorized 14. This is such a good game for a person looking to learn a new language.
Annoying and overhyped 1/5
I saw all the positive reviews on this app and thought hey let’s give this a try. I completed level one and discovered all other levels were locked which is supposedly a bug. This app is just annoying with its restrictions. I’m disappointed to say the least.
By Ben Taha
Thank you in all languages of world.
Bug report 4/5
Really like the app, but when I turn off the audio tests during a session it just keeps giving me audio tests and removes the button to turn it off. Really great structure and content, if I could reliably use it in public without having to guess on the audio questions it’d be even better
Good, but... 3/5
By Alyson 💕
This app is great in letting me learn French, especially for next year when I need to learn a new language; it will be easier with Memrise. My only problems are that I’ve been on the app for 10 days in a row for at least thirty minutes per day and it says my highest streak in four. I’m getting no more points, either. I know this app isn’t what it’s about but if it continues I will be cancelling my Pro membership and deleting the app. Again, I use it daily. Another problem is that o constantly have 10 notifications, while in the app it says “All caught up! Would you like to move on?” Or something, I don’t know. This is also annoying because I have a red dot on my screen consistently. Please fix these problems.
VERY expensive.... 3/5
I LOVE the Memrise app a lot but I feel like the fees are REALLY expensive. I feel like it’s less money to pay for a real life tutor than the app. I would be willing to pay for the app’s premium features if the prices were lowered by like... A LOT. Other than that it’s a useful app.
Perfect way to practice and learn a new language
I love this app! It’s helping me remember my native tongue which will further help my job opportunities and answer my relatives in Spanish rather than Span-glish!
Duolingo and other apps can help you learn french as well but I really feel like memrise has made learning fun for me, I enjoy coming home and learning instead of dreading more work and procrastinating. 10/10, take this from someone who has tried Rosetta Stone!
Love it!!! 5/5
This app combines learning any language of your choice and pure awesomeness. I think it is so fun to play when I am bored and want to do something productive, because it teaches me dozens of languages! Personally, I love learning and being able to talk to people, so this combines both assets. Honestly, if you are looking for a great language app, get this one!!! 🤗
Pick this Over DUOLINGO 5/5
This app has helped learn over 100 words FLUENTLY in under 1 hour. This is a really good app and it’s definitely worth the premium package. Even with the free package, you’ll learn something.
